WELCOME Letter From The Editors The Stegela Success Mastery Team

Freedom is being able to do what we want without limitation or boundaries. For me, freedom is a combination of three things: internal freedom, physical freedom, and monetary freedom. It encompasses mind, body, and soul and all three pieces must be together in harmony to be fully free. If you have money, but are not in good physical or mental health, then you are partially free, not completely free. There are many ways to improve each area of your life. For example, if you are lacking good mental health, you can find a life coach or counselor. If you are lacking in good physical health, you can find a fitness coach. And if you are lacking in financial health, you can find a business coach. What’s great about these three areas of life is there is a solution if one or more areas is not complete. Finding the solutions will give you complete freedom to live your life without limitation or boundaries. At Life By Design Magazine, we feel blessed to be able to provide our writers with mental health freedom by giving them space to fully express themselves using their freedom of voice, freedom of knowledge, and freedom of sharing wisdom with our readers. Ideally in my mind freedom is where I am, but the freedom that I have is not the full freedom that I want. As an entrepreneur, I know in my heart I already have a grasp of freedom because I get to choose what business I want, what clients I serve, whether I say “no” or “yes.” So as an entrepreneur, I feel like we already have a taste of freedom, but we know our freedom is still limited. I believe the freedom missing for novice entrepreneurs is financial freedom. With financial freedom, you can expand your current situation and it gives you the ability to help others in many more ways. With that said, some millionaires and billionaires do not have all three areas of freedom, so are they really free? That’s something to ponder. As the Creative Director for the magazine, it’s important for me to be part of a team that respects and trusts each other. Having respect and trust is another form of freedom. It allows us to express ourselves fully. I’m so blessed to be surrounded by other women like Miss Fox and Miss Lynda. It’s another freedom I enjoy, the freedom of choice. What I love most is that we all are doing this out of our love, passion and desire to serve others. Lastly, I am honored and blessed to be able to meet amazing, like-minded individuals who strive for the same thing, wanting to be heard. Meeting you at our mixers brings me a tremendous amount of joy and having joy is internal freedom. I’m looking forward to inviting you into our family and I can’t wait to hear your words of wisdom.

LIVE a Life of FREEDOM,

Not a Life of Bondage Have you ever found yourself saying things like “I am stuck living here,” “I am stuck on this job,” “I hate doing this” or “I hate doing that”? These are not the words of someone living a life of freedom, but are words of a life of bondage. Freedom is a feeling. Every moment of everyday we make decisions that determine whether we are living a life of freedom or a life of bondage. Some of the decisions we make on a daily basis are getting out of bed or not, going to work or not, eating healthy or not, smiling or frowning. Everything we do is our decision and it’s up to each of us to live the life we want to live. What choices have you chosen for your life? Are you happy with your decisions? Are you living a life of freedom and joy? It truly is up to you. The last several years I have hired coaches and mentors to help me become a better person. Along the way, I have discovered that my life doesn’t have to be the way it was, but I can make a choice to change it. Easy? Heck no. Possible? Heck yes. Here are three tips that will get you on track to living the life of freedom that you want and that you deserve.

TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY

DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT

Once you decide what you want, it’s time to go after it and make it happen. Again, you have made a decision, so take 100% responsibility for turning your decision into your reality. Making a decision is your first step. Pat yourself on the back. Now that you are feeling good about making a decision, it’s time to step up to the plate and take that first swing. Don’t let analysis paralysis stop you from making forward progress. Get out there and take the steps necessary in order to get yourself closer to the freedom you want. What is the first step you need to take in order to make progress towards your success? Who can you ask for help? What tools do you need? Don’t let time and lack of knowledge prevent you from succeeding.

USE THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

Stated in its most basic form, the Law of Attraction says, What you think about, talk about, believe strongly about, and feel intensely about, you will bring about.

In Jack Canfield’s book, The Success Principles, the first chapter is dedicated to taking 100% responsibility for your life, your actions.

Wow! That’s so powerful. But how can you use the Law of Attraction to give you a life of freedom? I’m so glad you asked.

Once you accept responsibility for everything that has happened in your past, everything that is happening in your present, and everything that will happen in your future, you will see things change in your life.

The first thing is to, again, decide. Decide what it is you want for your life. Decide what freedom means to you. Think WAY outside of the box. Think about movies that have had some crazy incredible things in them that make you think, “I can never do that, but I sure wish I could.”

This was one of the hardest things for me to do because I was so used to blaming others for my misfortunes. I especially blamed my parents and my upbringing for me being so bitter.

4 LIFE BY DESIGN JULY 2018

I continue to evolve and become a better person because I am taking responsibility and making every effort to change my life so I can live the life of freedom I want to live.

However, once I accepted 100% responsibility, I found myself being surrounded by uplifting and positive people and I found myself becoming an uplifting and positive person myself. Today, my life is a complete turnaround compared to what it was just two months ago.

What are those things? Write them down. Look at them every day. Imagine yourself doing those things, being that person, living that life. Then take small action steps every day toward living that life. Next thing you know, you’ll be living the life of freedom you’ve always dreamed of.

Bring Your Team to the Next “LEVEL” Would you consider yourself a leader? Better “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision yet, would your team consider you a leader? into reality.” For some, leadership is just a title, and others know and understand the amount of responsibility that comes with leadership and authority. If you have the desire to grow your company and team beyond belief, it all starts with leadership. That, my friends, begins with you!

ENCOURAGE growth. Being a leader also

This is your moment to empower your team. Rather than giving all the answers just to get the work done, empower them to be problem solvers and find the answers for themselves. Give them tools and challenge them on their own thought process. By doing that you are making your overall responsibility easier by molding new leaders.

This all goes back to the saying, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Everything Starts Before the Everything starts with an idea. I believe it even starts earlier. Here is the story of how I moved from Germany to California by chance, fell in love with the ocean and turned a revolutionizing idea into a business after reading a magazine article like you are doing right now.

Idea

city, in a new country. I did not know anyone and I did not have a job. Where to start? The opportunities seemed limitless. However, going back to corporate and sitting in an office all day did not sound very appealing. Having an understanding of what I don’t want to do was the first step and an important lesson to learn.

It was the fall of 2010. Location: Duesseldorf, Germany. I was working too many hours in a corporate job I took after college and my girlfriend just finished her Ph.D. We were both ready for something new and were always interested in living in another country and wanted to learn about a different culture.

If you don’t know what you don’t want to do, how are you supposed to find out what you do want to do?

She applied for several jobs abroad and one of the positions was in San Diego, California. She took it, I quit my job, and a 22-hour flight later I was dipping my toes in the Pacific Ocean. I was prepared, but I had no idea on what crazy journey I was about to set sail.

I learned about all the harms of single use plastics and how it affects marine life and the oceans, the ocean I just moved to. Something needed to be done. I joined several non-profit organizations and participated in many beach clean-ups. I was shocked to see how much trash we always found on what would be considered a “clean beach.” Most of it was plastic that never biodegrades. Where does all this plastic come from? Isn’t there something better we can do with it? I found my purpose. The direction was clear.

America’s Finest City. The West Coast. California. Wow, what a place! From the very first second, I totally understood all the hype about this place. All the movies, TV shows and songs were right. It is the “edge of the world.” What might sound scary for most sane people sounded like the perfect setup for me. I was in a new

GET SH*T Accomplished

As an entrepreneur, learning to think, act, and plan independently without a boss or team to lean on can be intimidating at first. One of the most critical skills to master as an entrepreneur is time management. Often people state “I don’t have enough time,” “I am too busy,” or “my schedule changes all the time,” when it comes to getting shit accomplished. But these are all excuses or limiting beliefs that are holding them back from achieving success. Here are some methods and tools you can use to improve your time management skills so you can get more shit accomplished: Having the right tools like Google Calendar or Productivity Planners like The Passion Planner or the EVO (Evolution) Planner make it easier to organize your busy life. - Google Calendar is easy to navigate because the layout is extremely straightforward and the display can be customized to your individual liking. There is one primary calendar, but for organizational purposes, individual calendars can be created for personal, business, or vacation use. Calendars can be shared by simply inviting others through email. It’s easily accessed via computer or a smartphone. - When you take the time to write things down, it helps you remember it. Just the act of writing it down embeds it into your memory. You may find that you don’t check your planner for certain things because you remember them. Also, when you have a physical planner, it’s easier

8 LIFE BY DESIGN JULY 2018

to remember to look at it. There’s a good chance that you might have the best intentions when using an app, but then never check it. Breaking down tasks from the most important to the least important towards your own personal and professional goals helps visualize how much you need to do and which is most important at a glance. Brian Tracy calls this method “eating your frog.” When you do your most important task first thing in the morning, the rest of the day is going to be easy in comparison. Chunking is another popular technique used for time management. Chunking means creating specific allotments to do one particular project. Like between 10 AM and 1030 AM I will only check my email. Between 11 AM and 12 PM I will only cold call. - Chunking is the concept of breaking up your day into larger chunks instead of reacting to constant interruptions. The more chunks of time you can devote to specific tasks, the fewer start-up moments you will have, and your efficiency will improve immensely. Since you won’t be spending as much time in start-up moments, you will have more time and will get more done. As a bonus, since you will be able to focus on the single task at hand, you will do it better. Get started using these tips and tools right away and you’ll see a drastic improvement in your success.

BELIEVE IN YOUR

FREEDOM

Now Serving Downtown & San Diego Community

There is a special freedom that comes along with believing in yourself and your passion. Being yourself and truly having faith in your aspirations will set you apart from the next person. A lot of people believe they are destined for great things, yet they are thrown off course by crippling self-doubt. The easiest way to believe in your goals and visions is to simply do what feels natural. Some people want to get total makeovers, others switch up their entire wardrobe, and some just need to try things with a new and clearer mindset. Self-motivation is a key to success in reaching freedom. If you don’t have anyone standing over you encouraging you to be your best, you have to be that person. Staying motivated and stimulated will keep you ahead of the game. With self-motivation, you’ll realize you have reached a fresh sense of freedom. However, once you balance your new and improved freedom, you have to maintain it. It’s time to take charge of your life. Being free and flowing through positive interactions will guarantee success. You’ll nail that deal you’ve been waiting for or land the job of your dreams. There is no reason to look back when there’s so much good in front of you. Above all, you need to find a passion and believe it will take you wherever you need to go. No matter what. Passionless people are less happy in life and easily persuaded into lives they want to throw away. Understanding your abilities and unlocking your full potential can open doors of opportunity for you in any career you imagine. Locate the occupation that’s going to make you leap out of bed and lead you to success. Figure out what it takes and focus on making it happen. You can’t be winning the day if you’re constantly watching other people be successful. Success doesn’t come overnight, and if it does, it will leave overnight. Be passionate about what you do and you will achieve the freedom you are looking for. by Barney Naseri instagram.com/barney_naseri_official

Y.E.S: Impacting the World

Mary Hang is a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist. Although she wears multiple hats as an entrepreneur, her biggest and most rewarding passion is impacting the youth through Young Entrepreneur Society.

“Auntie” Mary Hang www.MyYES.org

Starts With Impacting the Youth Did you know that the majority of the biggest movements in the world’s history started with the youth? If you aren’t aware, a little research goes a long way when it comes to self-education. Even without doing the research, we must admit that as we get older, we are set in our ways and many times adults aren’t willing to change too much or not at all. In other words, to make the biggest impact in the world, you must be able to first impact the youth. And over time, as those young adults become leaders of the world, they have a new mindset that can eventually impact the world on a larger scale. In this article you will learn how the nonprofit, Young Entrepreneur Society, has impacted future leaders to think bigger and outside the box.

YES Creates Confidence

Did you know that one of the main routes to immortality is writing books or music? Over the course of almost a year, Young Entrepreneur Society has helped multiple students write books, blogs, and even magazine articles. Giving the students specific guidance and outlines on how to write a book has opened doors to them writing articles in magazines, blogs on websites, and even publishing their own books. Imagine if you were a student and you had an opportunity to tell your story, thoughts, opinions, and knowledge with thousands of entrepreneurs every single month and they ALL LISTENED without judgment. Better yet, imagine how today’s high school students feel now that they have a resource to guarantee that they can share their story, thoughts, opinions, and ideas without judgment. Imagine the confidence that a student can now feel forever and bring that confidence into the world. Do you have high school aged grandkids, kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and so on? Do you believe it would be beneficial to their overall success in life? Exactly!

YES Creates Entrepreneurs

10 LIFE BY DESIGN JULY 2018

While we do mentor the students with

all types of business ideas, we can all agree that we live in the digital age of entrepreneurship, right? So in conjunction with brick and mortar and service based professionals, the Young Entrepreneur Society has also brought ecommerce professionals to the students showing them how to create their online businesses with little to zero invested capital and with the fewest mistakes. We currently have students who are excelling with their dropshipping, online stores, social media funnels, and more. We provide assistance with troubleshooting their products. One of our greatest success stories is a student who sold out on the first day that she launched her store! Best of all, they can be a digital entrepreneur from the beach, park, or wherever else they see fit. Isn’t that amazing?! Of course it is!

YES Creates Leaders

We all know that leaders don’t build followers. Leaders build leaders. A big part of the entrepreneurial foundation and spirit is leadership and that’s what we bring into the high schools. Leadership is essential to scaling the amount of impact we can all make collectively. Young Entrepreneur Society goes into the schools with a student president and vice president. These two students have extra time with mentors within Young Entrepreneur Society staff and are educated and mentored in leadership fundamentals and principles. With that type of mentorship, the president and vice president can now bring those skills and lessons to the members of their club and lead them correctly. Creating leaders at an early age can be life changing, right? You bet! All in all, my friends, I challenge us all to give back and think about legacy. The funny thing is that many people say they want to change the world and leave a legacy, but to truly make an impact, change the world, and leave a legacy, let’s start with being the type of mentor to others that you wish you had at their age.

1, 2, 3… WRITE! If we could call upon creativity on demand, I’d be walking around snapping my fingers. But that isn’t the case, not for me and not for most people. Even the most discipled take the necessary steps to nourish their minds and feed their creative souls. The ideas are in there, simply waiting to ignite, aching to unleash your best work yet. But what does that mean? It means that your ideas need a home, but you need to create that home. Every couple of weeks I find myself fresh out of words, inspiration and ideas. At this time, I realize that my routine has become… well, too routine, and that I need to shake things up if I want my creative juices to start flowing. I know that a writer’s block feels literal. BUT the key is knowing yourself, understanding how you work and what moves you. Because in all reality, inspiration is what energizes the soul. Here are a few ways to attack that dark cloud when it decides to linger.

STEP ONE: •Make a list of what you love (nature, reading, eating) •Make of list whom you love (your family, a great mentor, significant other) •Make a list of what inspires you (a well-written book, an entrepreneur, a cool living space)

STEP TWO: • Attack every single one of those things! But attack them differently. If you answered: •I love the beach. Plan a nice hike that you haven’t done before, visit

the desert, the city. Take in the colors, the sounds and the environment. •If you enjoy reading love stories, read a comedy. Why do people find Chelsea Handler funny? I don’t know, but I promise you I tried to find out! (I didn’t find the answer.) •If you like eating, find a new place outside of your comfort zone and go eat. Watch the people, see how they interact, study the culture, listen to their names. All these activities and places can spark ideas; specifically, new settings and characters. Make a list of who you love and meet with them. Look at that list and meet with the person you haven’t seen in the longest time. Ask them questions. Maybe something interesting happened to them since the last time you saw them? Make that list and next to their name write a question you have always wanted to ask them. Make it your goal to meet with them and ask them. I promise you this will make for a good story!

What inspires you? Nature? Successful people? Art? Go live it. Go to art shows, listen to podcasts, go for walks. It doesn’t have to cost money, it doesn’t have to take too much of your time, but make it a point to feel inspired. If music is your jam, write your next story to the medley of your favorite song. Do those things and write down how they make you feel. The ideas will start flowing if you give them a home to live in.

Freedom is Never FREE! Rewind the clock four years, and you would have an entirely different person than I am today standing before you. I was broken, depressed, overworked, and in and out of the doctors with bleeding ulcers caused by stress. I was working four jobs and over 90 hours a week with a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership and Human Resources. I followed the ‘plan.’ I went to school, got good grades, worked several years in the professional world excelling at my previous positions, but I was ‘stuck.’ Not sure if you can relate, but I was under the impression that the only way to land a high paying job was to get multiple degrees and excel in my roles until I was up for promotion. Were you informed of a similar school and career progression path? I spent several years of my life and a lot of time and money educating myself in what I believed to be the foundational education system and the only one that would lead to progressive success in my career. What was left out of the education I received was the true knowledge and skills that could be attained through personal development and individual critical thinking that was challenged and expanded by true mentorship. Fast forward to the present and life has taken a completely different turn because of the advice that was given to me by some influential mentors that I was introduced to by someone I will forever be grateful for, as he saved my life, Lance Jenson. I’m blessed to have been able

12 LIFE BY DESIGN JULY 2018

to leave the corporate rat race and have three businesses, am an entrepreneurial coach, and teach, mentor, and enable others to become the best version of themselves. I have been able to travel the world with a lot of friends and take over 36 vacations over the last 3.5 years. I’ll say it again: it’s crazy how life can change when you change your mindset of what’s possible. Over the years I can summarize three key things I learned that would be easy things to change in your routine if you were looking for a way to grow and develop your mindset. It’s amazing how the world around you can change and attract what you want when you start to think differently. 1. Start reading more. Just learn about the world around you. Even if you are not going to become an entrepreneur, some financial advice on how you can plan your future financial success could be helpful. 2. Change your friends or change your friends. This was one of the biggest takeaways for me. I was hanging out with the wrong kind of people. They weren’t bad people. They just had varying priorities and life goals. Stop spending valuable time with people who only talk about other people. 3. Find a Mentor!! Even the best of the best, Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Les Brown, all have a mentor that they work with to discuss and open their way of thinking.

This spirals into a mountain of debt that eventually we are drowning in. Sound familiar? How do you get out of this vicious cycle? Instead of using credit cards, imagine if you had money of your own that you could use to buy the things you want and need. Imagine going on vacation debt free. Financial freedom and independence are so important, yet so difficult for some to attain. Some people go to work at a 9-5 job every day or work for themselves at one job, and that is their sole source of income. If they lose that job, they lose their only source of livelihood. Warren Buffet said, “Never depend on a single income. Make the investment to create a second source.” It is so important to have multiple streams of income to have a plan B, to get and stay out of debt, have an emergency fund, save for retirement, go on vacations, or put your kids through college. Here are 6 sources of multiple streams of income you can utilize.

1. Join a direct sales company. Find something you are passionate about

and research direct sales companies that are in line with your passions, beliefs, and needs. Find out about the compensation plan, monthly fees, the company mission, inventory requirements, and training. This is a great way to bring in residual income. 2. Drive Uber or Lyft when you have free time. 3. Invest in an Airbnb. Do you have an extra room in your house that isn’t being used? Or an RV sitting in your driveway? Rent it out for weekend trips or as an Airbnb. 4. Buy a used vehicle and rent it out on a peer to peer car sharing and rental site such as Turo or Getaround. 5. Invest a small amount of money each month in a mutual fund account with stocks that can grow your money for you. 6. When you finish paying off one credit card, use that extra money to increase the monthly payment on another one until they are all paid off.

Think about the actual definition of freedom, the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Yet, I often meet people who have never spoken publicly about what they do or the product they sell because they say they have never been asked. But in today’s virtual world, your opportunity is just a click away, and you don’t need an invitation! In truth, the real reason you’re not promoting your product is lack of confidence in yourself or your lack of knowledge in your product or service. Ironically, those are the same reasons a consumer will choose not to do business with you. People will tell you the reason is price, but that is never true, and the next time someone uses that as an objection I want you to remember the name Gary Dahl. Dahl invented The Pet Rock in 1970 when the federal minimum wage was only $2 an hour and he sold them for $4 each. Think about that; 1.5 million people spent two hours of their pay on a rock. A rock! So no, I never believe price is an objection. If a potential client likes you or what you do better than anyone else, price doesn’t matter. With all of that said, you should know your business well enough and have the confidence to speak about it publicly. There is empowerment in knowing people are listening to what you have to say and it also helps you rebound from a blocked shot. I have watched entrepreneurs with great products totally tank a presentation by not knowing their product or being unlikeable. You can literally see their confidence deflate like a New England Patriots football and the connection with their audience end like a dropped call. If they would switch gears and sell themselves while mentally regroup-

ing about what they are selling, they would still have a shot at saving the pitch. How many times on Shark Tank have you seen one of the investors say, “I’m going to make you an offer because I like you.” After all, isn’t that why we all became entrepreneurs? We liked ourselves, our products, or ideas so much that we willingly gave up a regular paycheck, benefits, and stability for the freedom to act and speak as we wanted. Never forget that you had the most to lose, yet you were the first to invest in you. Part of our self-worth and self-esteem is gained by our perception of what we think other people think about us. It has been psychologically proven that our body actually has a release of dopamine when we see a “like” on one of our social media posts. A complete stranger can trigger a physical reaction in our own brain by a simple click. Now think about how empowered you would feel speaking in front of a crowd of people or a camera with a crowd watching and getting applause, likes, and shares. Knowledge breeds confidence, confidence empowers, and power is freedom. Try doing Facebook Live mini events. Make it fun and sell you and your staff as much as you sell your product or service. If trade shows don’t fit your business model, host community events where you can meet and talk to people face to face. Speak up and free yourself from your desk chair! Empower your possibilities and enjoy your newfound freedom. by Jody Taylor Sixty5Media.com

Financial freedom is possible and attainable regardless of your current situation. I challenge you to evaluate the areas of your life where you can bring in multiple streams of income. When you are debt free, your stress level decreases and you have the freedom to do more of what you love without constraints. When you have multiple streams of income, you will feel more independent, and you will not have to rely on anyone else or a credit card for help ever again. by Lauren Aven LaurenAven.com

Free Yourself From

Negativity

Have you ever been in a negative environment? Maybe you were bullied, in an abusive relationship, or told you can’t do something. Removing negativity and leaving a toxic environment is hard. But remaining in that same environment is even harder.

Here are some tips to help you free yourself from negativity.

1) The Law of Attraction Does Work

When you think negatively, you’ll become negative. When you think positively, you’ll become positive. Your energy will attract your surroundings. Think wisely. Attract positivity by thinking positivity.

2) Train Your Mindset

Read books, listen to podcasts and positive music, watch documentaries and inspirational videos to reprogram your mind. Replace your Netflix and TV with personal development content.

3) Change Your Environment

No matter where you live or who you surround yourself with, if they are negative, you have to change it. Get out now. Find a positive environment where you feel safe and comfortable, whether it’s family members or friends. Change is a necessity!

4) Cut Out Toxic People From Your Life

Misery loves company. People want a pity party. If you want to become a positive person, you must cut out the toxic people from your life, even if they are family or friends. There’s no exceptions. Instead, talk to like-minded people who understand and relate to you.

5) Write or Record a Journal

Get a blank book and write a personal journal of your life from the past to present including your secrets and thoughts. If you want to share it publicly, create a blog or even record a podcast and post it online. Writing it out helps to get it out of your brain and onto paper.

6) Pray, Meditate or Be Active

Clear your mind! Pray to whatever God you believe in or meditate. If that doesn’t work, then be active and go outside to release the negativity from within. Exercise and play sports to have fun.

7) Address and Learn From Your Past Mistakes

If you failed at something or screwed up at work or school. Learn from it. Don’t cry about it or blame it on someone else. Own it! Figure out what you did wrong and learn what you can do to not make the same mistake.

8) Realize That You Cannot Change the Past

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. If people hurt you or you were poorly treated in the past, learn to forgive them. If you could have done something that you wanted but didn’t, let it go. The past is the past; you’ve got to move forward.

9) Cut Out Distractions

Anything that is distracting you from removing negativity, whether it is on TV, music or video games, cut it out so you can focus on building yourself. If you get too distracted, you won’t get anywhere.

10) Love Yourself

Remember, you are your own best friend. No one can bring you down but yourself. The worst enemy is yourself and self-doubt. You must turn your own worst enemy into your own best friend. By using these 10 simple tips, you will be well on your way to living a life filled with positive people and you will be much happier.

Inspired by Four Legs and Fast Food

Kona Kai captured my heart the first moment I saw her. She was wanted, chosen, and loved. Tiny, less than a pound, but ever so cute! She was a particular Shih Tzu breed sporting brown lips, eyes, and nose!

stare. Others need a more flare and an aggressive approach so that a little dance show may be necessary. She reads every situation and executes her strategies flawlessly until she nails the deal.

Training began immediately. Sit. Stand. Come. Stay. Dance. As I was teaching her – she was teaching me – especially on how to become a successful entrepreneur. Here are a few lessons I learned from her.

At the age of 65, Colonel Sanders retired, and due to all his setbacks, he felt like a failure. He sat down to write a list of everything he would have liked to accomplish and realized he was an excellent cook. After borrowing money to begin, door-to-door selling of fried chicken started. Rejected 1,009 times, he continued until he was able to influence his decision makers. Kentucky Fried Chicken became one of the largest fast food chains in the world.

IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES: Kona is a master at identifying opportunities – especially when there is food in sight. When the microwave beeps, the cheese slice package squeaks open, or the smell of dinner permeates the air – she is alert. Her mind, nose and eyes, ears – every part of her being begin to figure and plan how she will capitalize on her opportunity. If one way doesn’t work, she moves on quickly and finds another way. Stopping is not an option. “No” merely means – try another way. Ray Kroc began his career as an entrepreneur when he invented the machine for making milkshakes. After going store to store without desired results, he landed in a hamburger store. Multiple visits later, he realized the opportunity for a fast food concept would be advantageous. Perseverance, grit, and determination saw him become the Corporation Founder of McDonald’s. He knew that success consisted of going from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm. Ray Kroc never stopped until he could say, “I’m lovin’ it!” INFLUENCE DECISION MAKERS: Kona knows who her target audience is! She has identified who to go to, when to push, and how long to push to get the required results. Kona has different strategies for different people. Some get influenced by a passive approach – a constant

Now that is “Finger-lickin’ good.” INTENSIFY YOUR FOCUS: Kona has perfect focus. When she has a goal in mind, especially her passion for her treat ball, her patience and persistence do not waiver. She will focus without wavering. Glen Bell opened a hot dog stand and called it Bell’s Drive-In. Bell noticed that across the street the lines were always long to get into this Mexican restaurant. Showing interest, the owners allowed him to see the taco making process. As he focused on all he could do with this new knowledge, his business began to flourish into the fast food successful restaurant - Taco Bell. He indeed did “think outside the bun.” Have you reached the point in your business where you can say, “I’m lovin’ it”? Are the successes in your business, “finger-lickin’ good?” If not, intensify your focus and think “outside the bun”… the results will be surprising. by Sandra Graham sandragrahamphotography.com

Red, White, and BOOMING It feels like fireworks the first time you get that check as an independent contractor or business owner. Independence is an amazing feeling to feel pump inside your blood veins. Knowing YOU’RE the boss. But with that comes the responsibility of being the boss, too. Below are FIVE TIPS to help you get “booming” now that you are more independent as an official business owner or independent contractor. 1) Don’t discount value When you have overwhelming value to offer a potential client... people will pay. Believe in yourself, your business, your value, and your product or service. Let your results speak for your company. You don’t need to discount what brings clients tangible results... as long as you’re being reasonable with your price. Be a world-class-star in your niche when it comes to results and you’ll never have to discount a great service (at a price that makes sense to everyone involved). 2) Don’t discount referrals or the power of testimonials When you have done excellent first class service for a client... don’t be afraid to ask for referrals. Some of your BEST clients will come from other favorable clients you’ve worked with already. You never know the potential and the potent power of just having a five-minute conversation with a previous happy client will do for your business. Great people usually hang out with other great people... which is great for your now booming business. 3) Don’t discount the power of the correct branding Many companies with products that are not much different than the rest of them have risen to the tippy-top with the correct branding.

I’m sure you’ve heard of Nike’s “Just do it” slogans, or branding experts like Gary Vaynerchuk that branded his ranks up through the masses of voices using popular social media outlet “Twitter.” Branding, especially the right kind, will skyrocket your business. The more independent you become, the more you have to properly channel these expertise within your business. 4) Don’t discount the extreme value of collaboration Living in the internet/media generation we now live in, the power of the “six degrees of separation” has only shortened... a lot. Whoever you want to know, chances are, you can actually meet them with a few steps. One way of doing that is collaborating with other people or companies in niches you want your company exposed to. Teaming up with other companies not only expands your brainpower, but it also expands both of your resources at your disposal. 5) Don’t discount your critics Much like a food thermometer used to make sure your food is cooked thoroughly, your critics don’t have to all be bad. Your critics sometimes let you see things from perspectives you haven’t seen yet, and you didn’t even have to put them on the payroll! Some critics have valuable assumptions and can play devil’s advocate for your company that might save your company some time and money. Sort through the critics much like eating fish. Eat the meat and leave the bones. Some critics are actually your biggest fans and actually want to see you succeed (secretly). Because, let’s be honest... who else can your critics critique if you fail? by Marc Beatty Facebook.com/MarcOnPurpose

Plant Seeds of Abundance “Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.” Wayne Dyer Have you ever wondered why some people have it all together and others, well, just don’t? Why everything goes right for some and others just can’t seem to catch a break? Having struggled much of my life, I sure have wondered on these questions. I often think, “What do they have that I don’t?” or “Why do I seem to have this black cloud following me?” or “Man, she sure has it all together.” Well, once I started studying personal development in the hopes of improving my life, I learned a thing or two. First, nobody is just lucky. Second, abundance is not inherited or obtained, it’s a feeling – it’s something we manifest, and it starts in our hearts and mind. Tuning into abundance is very much about tuning into your mindset and your actions. Plant these seeds in your life and you, too, will soon feel limitless. PLANT SEEDS OF GRATITUDE Gratitude unlocks the richness of life. It’s the cornerstone of tuning into abundance. If your heart is not full of gratitude for this life of yours, you will never tune into abundance. Without gratefulness, your soul is dark and murky and unable to manifest. So, check your attitude and check your thoughts. There’s plenty to be grateful for. Make it heartfelt and specific. Also, extend gratefulness to others. Share your joy and you’ll be surprised how much joy you illuminate in others. When you put joy in someone else’s heart, you can’t help but be full of joy in your heart. PLANT SEEDS OF OPPORTUNITY Spend time developing yourself – learn new skills, improve your character and personality, pursue optimum health. As you develop a better you, you’ll find that you feel better about yourself and you, therefore, strive for more in life - you reach out to others, you go for the risk, you actually love yourself. You see, what happens here is that you project a new and improved you. This new you is more attractive because you’re more polished, more gracious. This, in turn, draws people to you and opportunity will begin to seek you out. PLANT SEEDS OF VALUE Cultivating value in others is a surefire way to tune into abundance. When you authentically contribute to others, they will authentically contribute back to you. You create synergy between the two of you and the world just conspires good upon you. So, lend a helping hand, give someone your time, be a shoulder to cry on, provide a new way, or simply lead by example. There is a plethora of options for you to add value to others. Embrace it. Own it. Make it a habit. You will reap the benefits tenfold.

Everyone, at some point in life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn’t fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer? Who hasn’t dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships? Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our attic. This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self-actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing. But you know what? Life could be so much better, if only we learned to aim higher. Impossible is Just a Word! The most common problem to setting goals is the word impossible. Most people get hung up thinking “I can’t do this.” “It’s too hard.” “It’s too impossible.” “No one can do this.” However, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment. Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Write 3 different headers: Things I know I can do. Things I might be able to do. Things that are impossible for me to do. Now look at your list and strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under the “Things I know I can do” heading. Check them off when you accomplish them. As you slowly are able to check off all of your goals under that heading, move to the next heading, “Things I might be able to do.” Once those are completed, move to the next heading, “Things that are impossible for me to do.” You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to aim high and start working towards that goal little by little. However, it is unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic. Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. To accomplish your dreams you have to put in hard work and discipline. But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream and not some easily accomplished one. Friends, don’t get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will find out that impossible is just a word, so go ahead and “Dream Your Life.”

Did you know that true freedom starts with our thoughts? How we see ourselves and how we move through life is all attached to the freedom or prison of our mind. Unless we believe we are free, we won’t be able to live free. It’s our responsibility to live free in every corner of our mind. You can start by: •BEING FREE IN YOUR DECISIONS. Do not waiver when you make a decision. DECIDE the next best thing for your family and finances and see it through. TRUST that you are wise enough to make tough business decisions. BELIEVE that you are 66 days from accomplishing any goal that you put your mind to and put consistent action behind it. •BEING FREE FROM BEING A SHADOW. Being a copy of someone should not be a life goal. Your reflection is GREAT ENOUGH. Your ideas and input are worth sharing. Allow the creative living inside of you to shine. •BEING FREE FROM SEEKING APPROVAL. Anytime you pursue confirmation from outside of yourself, you are sending a text message to your self-esteem. You are saying that someone else’s thoughts are greater or louder than yours. Your approval for yourself should hold more weight. Seeking approval snatches away your imagination and buries your originality. •BEING FREE IN YOUR PERSONALITY. If you love watching reruns of Star Wars or seeing Mulan for the sixteenth time, then that’s what you like. If enjoy hanging with people that others consider weird, continue hanging with them. Don’t allow anyone to discount the things that bring you consistent joy. Since you are like no one else, carry yourself like no one else. •BEING FREE FROM CASTING BLAME. The way we set others free is by not passing blame around like a basketball. Every area in your life is your responsibility. Own it! Be free from being bound by any thought or emotion. Choose to live free in your mind daily. Once you implement these actions, you will see a shift of freedom in your life.

ENTREPRENEUR OF THE MONTH

BRIAN SMITH

Brian Smith, founder of UGG, the brand, was 29 years old when he ventured into the entrepreneurial world. Because he didn’t like to study, but hated to quit more, Brian spent ten years studying to be and working as an accountant, but he knew for years that was not the right career for him. Immediately after graduating, he quit his job and hit the high seas to California. Brian felt all the cool trends were coming out of California – Levi’s, waterbeds, surf brands, etc., so he set sail to find his big thing and bring it back to Australia. Brian spent about three months surfing in Malibu while searching for his big

“it takes time to build a brand” thing. It was October/November when the water was starting to get cold and the wind was chilly. Brian was finishing up surfing and standing on the beach, he reached to pull on his sheepskin boots he had brought with him from Australia and that’s when he had a “goosebumps moment” – there were no sheepskin boots in America. Instead of coming to America and taking his big thing back to Australia, Brian wound up staying here and bringing sheepskin boots to America – that’s when UGG, the brand, was birthed. It was about 10‑15 years before the UGG boot sensation caught on and it was paying for itself. It was so long, in fact, Brian tried quitting several times. He realized he had all the worst elements of any business – huge, costly inventory, horrendous imagery costs, upfront payment for product, and retailers that took 60‑90 days to pay. Brian also discovered there was a real big education component coupled with the bad elements for a business. Americans didn’t get the beauty of sheepskin. It was thought to be hot and prickly. So he decided it was time to get out and give up. But then he caught a break. It was October and the first storm was hitting the coast and it was windy and raining and Brian got back soaking wet from the golf course one afternoon to find 15 to 20 messages on his answering machine from retailers screaming for product. At this point Brian decided that if he was going to stay in, he was going to raise some capital and make it into a real business. Although he was an accountant, he found raising capital difficult because he didn’t have any real understanding of finance. Brian knew how to write business plans and do forecasts, but didn’t know that investors only wanted answers to three questions ‑ how do I get my money out, when will I get my money out, and will I make a profit when I get my money out. He thought investors should see the greatness of his idea and be thrilled to be on the ride with him.

Brian says every entrepreneur needs to learn that first before they ever start a business. Looking where the depths and cash flow are going to be is really important. In the beginning, Brian decided to do some magazine advertising and started by using models and posing them on the beach like a product shot. He did this for two or three years, but sales remained flat. Eventually he asked a surf shop buddy what he was doing wrong. His buddy asked some surf kids in the shop what they thought of UGGs and the kids responded with, “Oh, those things are so fake. Those models in the ads, they can’t surf.” That’s when Brian realized he was sending the wrong message to his target market. After switching up his marketing and reaching his target market more, Brian reaped an increase in sales – all because he matched the image of what he was trying to get across – how cool the boots really were – with his target market. When asked about beginners utilizing marketing and branding experts, Brian reminds us of what he learned the hard way – our brands are not our logos, our products, or any trademark registrations. Our brands are what people think of us. You can utilize all the marketing and branding experts you want, but if you don’t get out there and build a following around it, it’s a useless brand – a useless graphic art. Brian also reminds us that it takes time to build a brand, to build a business. It takes time again and again of consistently showing up and putting forth the effort and creating your following. It’s not an overnight success system. It takes years of time and energy and sacrifice to build the momentum needed to turn your vision into success. In order to develop a strong foundation with deep roots, you must go through the growth phases. As Brian states, “You can’t give birth to adults.” Not understanding the importance of the financial side of business – the forecasting needed – is Brian’s biggest failure in starting out. He feels his success made it harder and the more successful he got the harder the business was to run because he didn’t have the cash flow to handle it. He knows he threw away over a million dollars’ worth of orders because he couldn’t finance the production. Brian’s advice is to understand the money aspect of business before you get too far into starting your business. “Just get started,” is what Brian tells others who want to start their own business. Once you start, the universe will conspire to work with you. This means the universe is absolutely perfect and everything you could possibly want already exists somewhere in this universe, but until you start to take action, you’ll never see the evidence of what’s out there. Interviewed by: Lynda M. West Written by: Janine Holman www.BrianSmithSpeaker.com

Brian learned that being in the accounting field didn’t mean he was in the money field. As an accountant, he figured out what happened last year. In business you forecast your money needs. The two are very different.

FREEDOM

Through Masterminding

As an entrepreneur, have you ever struggled with sticking to your goals and getting things done? Have you ever struggled with prioritizing all the different tasks sitting on your to-do list? Have you ever struggled with just organizing all the thoughts and ideas in your head? If you’re like me, you probably have struggled with these things and many more in your business. So, I ask you, “Have you ever thought of joining a mastermind group?” Masterminding is the gathering of two or more individuals to form a group for the purposes of brainstorming, accountability, growth, and support in order to be fulfilled, successful, and flourishing. It’s the collaborative collection of multiple minds and experiences for the creation of ideas, plans, organization, and achievement of goals. Peer groups are about engaging, collaborating, motivating, and inspiring each other. It’s the best way to tap into the minds and experiences of others, accomplish your goals, and reach success. Mastermind groups are amazing for helping you come up with ideas in your business, prioritize tasks that need to be done, and just overall accountability to accomplish the goals you set for yourself. I personally have been on the sidelines of my business for well over a year - the overwhelm of not knowing what to do when and in what order was my hold up. Since joining a mastermind group at the beginning of this year, I have gotten a clear focus on what my business is, how I will grow it, and step-by-step actions to take in order to attain my goals. As declared by CBS, KFMB-FM, Tucson News, and others, Stegela Success Mastery is San Diego’s #1 coaching and mastermind program. It’s a place where you can fail and get up. It’s a place to focus on success, growth, and prosperity. It’s a place to be around people who are not only interested in their own growth, but in helping others grow right alongside them. FULFILLED Deep down everybody has the same basic dream – to live a life that matters, to make a difference. By being in a mastermind group, you become part of a synergy created by a group of people with similar goals and dreams. This synergy gives you the freedom to make an impact, be part of the greater good, and to be fulfilled in ways you didn’t know were possible. By making service to others your top priority, you create a freedom of fulfillment that cannot be quenched by any other means. SUCCESSFUL Masterminding enables you to tap into the minds and experiences of others and exponentially accelerate your growth. You consistently surround yourself with those who have the knowledge, skill, information, and tools to drive you forward. Through the successes and failures of mentors, you shortcut your path to achieving your dreams. You stay motivated and accountable and you ultimately create freedom that allows you to elevate yourself to success. FLOURISHING To flourish means to grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way. Mastermind groups put you around people who want to create, develop, build, and grow in richness and in depthness. Mastermind groups cultivate a culture of openness, vulnerability, and confidentiality. Self-discovery is a primary goal where finding the real you is the path to creating the freedom to flourish. We invite you to come mastermind with Stegela – you’re one step closer to being . . . Fulfilled. Successful. Flourishing. by Janine Holman facebook.com/janine.l.holman

Do You Know Your Financial Freedom Number? The Key To Financial Freedom Do you know your Financial Freedom Number? You might ask, “What is that?” Your financial freedom number is the magic number that will allow you to keep your lifestyle even if you are not working. Basically, knowing this number will allow you to keep the lifestyle you are accustomed to without downsizing. You need to plan how much money you will spend each month and at the same time have enough money coming in to keep living without worrying about your bills, expenses or running out of money. HOW DO YOU CALCULATE YOUR FINANCIAL FREEDOM NUMBER OR FFN? Before we determine what your FFN is, we need to know how much money you are spending now and what kind of lifestyle you are used to. One way to determine this is by looking at your expenses 6 to 12 months back and get the average. For example, if you spend $4,000 in housing, transportation, and living expenses, then you spend roughly $48,000 a year. Now, don’t forget that inflation will affect this number, too. In 2016, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said that the “inflation rate is only 1.7%.” Inflation is an upward movement in the average level of prices. Each month the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the average prices when it releases the CPI (Consumer Price Index). Now, the reality is, inflation does exist, and prices are expected to keep going up. Here are a few things to take into consideration. If you are currently a homeowner with a mortgage, but in a few years your home is going to be free and clear, make sure to account for it in your FFN, but don’t forget your taxes and insurance. Also, consider that healthcare might go up as you age.

into consideration. Are you planning to travel more? Are you going to take on a new hobby or sport, like golf? These things cost money. Now it is time to determine how much money you will need each month. At least 3% to 4% of your income should be your monthly withdrawal, so you don’t deplete your money right away. This is kind of like budgeting in the future. Here is how you calculate your FFN: FFN = Yearly Expenses divided by 4% So if your yearly needed expenses are $48,000 a year, divide that by 4%, and that will determine your FFN.

ARE THE COLORS YOU WEAR

Sabotaging your Results?

$48,000 / 4% = $1,200,000

Is it possible that by wearing the colors that look good on you will have you become more successful and creditable? Is it really that important?

In this example, once you have $1,200,000, you have achieved Financial Freedom.

The value of who you are doesn’t change, but when you are well dressed you will be noticed and your perceived value will increase. 85-90% of communication is non-verbal. What are your clothes saying about you?

One thing that you have to keep an eye on is that if you have that on accounts like 401k, IRAs, Stocks, and Bonds, you’ll have to pay taxes and management fees. This could cut as much as 35% of your assets.

There are certain colors that will have you connect instantly to someone you are meeting for the first time. Not only that, but you will appear to be more credible as well as trustworthy. Who wouldn’t want that?

You might be thinking, “I might never be able to retire.” If you are an entrepreneur, you should aim for Financial Freedom. Entrepreneurs are the ones that have the best opportunities to grow their wealth and be able to achieve their FFN. Why? Because as an entrepreneur, you should not have an income ceiling. You should be able to make as much money as you want. If you are having difficulty calculating your FFN, don’t forget that I am here for you. And remember that “Financial Education Is the Path to Freedom.” by Sara Chevere TheFinanciallyFitWomen.com

And there are colors that create invisible walls between you and your audience if you are a speaker, or you and your potential client. What is the message you want to project? When you feel your best, knowing you are making the impact you want to make and you look the part, people will remember you in a positive way. You want your image to impart the credible expert you are and not be sidetracked by what you feel comfortable in. Many individuals dress for themselves and it can show. Being an entrepreneur can have you feel that we can do what we want because it is our business which in reality is true, but how do you want to be viewed in your potential clients’ eyes? For me, if I met two people that had the same kind of business and I was looking to use their services and one was dressed to impress and the other looked like they rolled out of bed, guess who I would hire? The one that wasn’t dressed that well may have had more experience, but I probably still wouldn’t hire them. My feeling is if they don’t take care of themselves or care how they look, will they take care of me? If you are meeting potential clients and you are not having the results you like, making a change in your appearance could be the ticket to increased results. Colors are so important and everyone has their own personal color recipe. Knowing this can give you the edge over your competitors as well as gaining the clients and connections you are looking for. You want your wardrobe to be your blueprint that is authentic to your power and expression in order to embody and embrace your best version of you, wherever you go!

What Are You Doing With Your Time? As we know, time flies with a snap of a finger. But how often are we taking advantage of our time? Why does the majority of society look forward to a Friday night but not a Monday morning. Why is it that we only express ourselves during the weekends, but not the weekdays? Every day is important. Wake up every morning and say “thank you.” It’s a blessing to wake up and be able to achieve your goals or whatever it is you’re working on. Freedom is one of the reasons many people enter the entrepreneurial world. But entrepreneurship isn’t easy. Many entrepreneurs spend 72 hours plus per week working on their business with little to no sleep continuously losing freedom. But entrepreneurs want freedom and that’s why they became an entrepreneur. Here are three steps to maximize your freedom:

DISCIPLINE

Discipline is a practice that creates new habits. To maximize your freedom, what is your schedule for bed? If you’re going to bed by midnight and waking up at 10am, your body has overslept. However, if you’re in bed by 10pm and waking up at 6am, your body has a full 8 hours of sleep, which is needed for the body to receive the rest it needs and allows you to take care of priorities earlier in the day. To really challenge yourself, start going to bed at 9pm and waking up at 5am. This way you can start your day earlier than most.

PRIORITIES

Now understanding discipline, what are your priorities? Business is always one of them, but make sure your time is balanced. Ask yourself how can this be beneficial for you to move forward. Set a time limit for each priority! You want to be able to take care of the most important project first and go down the list with a timeframe to complete each assignment. If you go past your allotted time, stop what you’re doing and move on to what’s next on the list. After completing the tasks, depending how long they took, you have all afternoon to spend on whatever it is you wish to do. If it’s continuing on with business or tasks you want to complete, do so! Always make sure to enjoy your life.

PRODUCTIVITY

Always be productive. Did you know the average person spends two or more hours on social media platforms wasting time? It’s great to look at a meme and giggle, but are you letting it impact your time and business? Watching cats on YouTube doesn’t help you get things done. Your priorities should be productive to help you accomplish more, which allows more free time for yourself. If you’re feeling off task, ask yourself, “How is this helping me move forward in my life?” If you feel you’ve finished all your priorities, read a book instead of going on social media. Discover new ways to improve your business, health, wealth, love or happiness. Hope you enjoyed these three steps to freedom. Make sure to implement them because if there’s no action being taken, there will be no results. Ask yourself, “Am I a disciplined, prioritized or productive person?” If not, by following these three steps, it will help you increase your time freedom. Remember, don’t put your life around your business; put your business around your lifestyle.

THE ART OF

BREAKING A FEAR! To my new developing friends, I am an introvert/ambivert. If you don’t know what an introvert is, it’s someone who is more on the quiet side who keeps to themselves. Unlike extroverts, we recharge by spending time by ourselves and like our quiet time. Our extrovert counterparts recharge by spending time with many people. To explain an ambivert, we tend to have a mixture of both introvert and extrovert qualities. Now, facing my fears more and more every day, I have turned into more of an ambivert. One fear I have faced is walking up to strangers and sparking up a conversation. I’ve never had a problem when people walked up to me and started a conversation, but was raised in a very strict and quiet household and was told not to talk to strangers. I actually didn’t learn how to start the conversation until recently. This was a huge step for me to change. As an entrepreneur, you have to get out of your comfort zone if you want to have success. How did I break my fear of approaching new people? Well, it started when I joined an entrepreneur mastermind group, Stegela Success Mastery. By joining the group, I was challenged to step outside of the proverbial comfort zone. I had to meet new people. Fortunately, that then led me to meet like-minded people. It was mind-blowing to know so many individuals who had talents in so many different areas. I’ve come to realize there are a lot of people who are experiencing the same things as me. To share success and failures with them is amazing. My first breakthrough was when a bunch of us decided to go networking together (there is safety in numbers) and we challenged ourselves with walking away with a certain number of business cards in hand. It was scary at first, but each time it became easier. Being with a group of other people who were also scared made me feel supported. It was cool that they let me watch them as I gained the courage to get out of my comfort zone. When it came time for me to get a number and exchange contact information, I had a bust…a fail! I chickened out! But I brushed that off and tried again. I told myself, “You got this!” and everyone else in the group encouraged me, too. That helped a lot.

Thought Leaders Zone

You’re Ready To Be UNhitched Practicing Freedom For Success & Fulfillment I first discovered the idea of what I like to call ‘being UNhitched’ during a yoga retreat when the instructor challenged us to hold a Warrior II Pose...for 10 minutes. It was at the 3-minute mark where I remember having feelings and thoughts of desperation, anger, and even disaster! I was convinced that my arms were going to fall off (which has never happened in the long history of yoga). The experience taught me a great deal about the benefits of remaining UNhitched - a practice that has been a major contributing factor for both my successes and the most fulfilled moments and experiences of my life. Here’s how to put it into practice for instant results: WHAT YOU FOCUS ON EXPANDS Choose what you focus on with care. Are you focused on the shorter term outcome of a project? Or are you focused on the bigger picture of how it all fits with WHO you are and WHY you are (your purpose and freedom)? Think of it like this. In sales, when you focus on ‘the sale’ itself, often it will elude you. Every great salesperson knows that the focus must be on the bigger vision. Real estate agents, car sales professionals, even travel agents, sell dreams - not products. Even in dating - no one wants to go on a second date with someone who is desperate for the second date. Am I right? Being UNhitched to an outcome provides freedom and space for success. When you practice a healthy detachment and independence from expectations, you will attract exactly what you need and want. BE A VISIONARY, NOW There have been several instances in my own life where I’ve tried to ‘hitch my wagon’ onto someone else because I’ve had this romantic idea that doing things with a partner would be easier, more fun, and result in success faster. While it’s absolutely critical to surround yourself with amazing people and to have trusted advisors, coaches, and mentors, you will do yourself

26 LIFE BY DESIGN JULY 2018

a disservice if you undermine your own vision by waiting for the right moment or for others to validate your ideas. Not only will this slow you down and ultimately be a harder road to success, but it will also cause you to suffer from ‘comparanoia’ - a serious affliction for entrepreneurs! Especially when you are early on in a new venture - just do it! BE the visionary. Bring ideas to life quickly and mostly on your own. That’s not to say you can’t have people help you out. Just lead the charge. Make decisions quickly and get your idea exposed and market tested. What exactly are you waiting for anyway? Your tribe is waiting for you! Consider taking an UNhitched approach to all failure and success, since neither affords you a sense of purpose or fulfillment anyway. Being UNhitched allows you to step into your own power and creates possibility. Possibility represents freedom. Freedom is waiting for you! You’re ready now to be UNhitched and UNstoppable!

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

TERRA AMERICAN BISTRO This month we take you a little east to an exceptional little bistro. After being in Hillcrest for 13 years, Terra American Bistro decided to take its farm to table dining to East County. It’s a little obscure and not in an area travelled to for great food; however, Terra American Bistro surprises nonetheless. This one definitely falls under the “Don’t judge a book by its cover” category. Terra American Bistro provides a simple, yet elegant, experience with polished concrete floors, garden wall, brick, neutral color palette, and exposed wooden beams. You are instantly greeted with a warm, welcoming environment and the food is beyond spectacular. The acoustics are even superb for enjoying an engaging conversation. The restaurant focuses on local, sustainable, organic agriculture from the San Diego and Riverside counties. The cuisine is described as New American food and is prepared with ingredients and cooking styles from North, South, and Central America. The staff at Terra American Bistro is simply superb. While I waited for my dining partner to join me, the hostess offered me a seat at the bar where the bartender thoroughly explained the plethora of drink choices. The offering was truly amazing.

ketchup that is sweet and fresh, which was a pleasant change from the standard Heinz ketchup. The Fried Brussels Sprouts were tangy and flavorful – a fantastic, flavorful treat for the taste buds. For our entrees, we chose the Mt Cook King Salmon and the Karl Strauss Amber Lager Braised Pot Roast. The salmon was fresh and the spring salsa verde sauce was a tasty, delightful addition. The pot roast was extremely tender with the sagu (Bolognese) sauce being a palate pleaser. While we were too full to try any dessert ourselves, I took a moment to look at some reviews by others who had some inspiring comments. Reviews I read left comments like, “Best I’ve ever had,” “Real fresh and tasty,” and “Delicious!” So, it seems Terra American Bistro receives rave reviews all around. Even though the neighborhood is not the most upscale, Terra American Bistro does not cease to please. This is a unique place for familyfriendly dinners, business meetings, date nights, friendly meetups, or even a quick stop for a one-of-a-kind cocktail.

Terra American Bistro does not save its local, sustainable, and organic ingredients only for its food. It extends to the bar as well. The restaurant features seasonal fruit and herb-infused vodkas made in-house, along with a wide variety of local craft beers and a wine list that is sure to please even the toughest of wine connoisseurs - more than 80 bottles of mostly California wines are included in this wine list. Terra American Bistro is a magnificent spot to catch a happy hour. Our server was as equally equipped and attentive as the bartender, providing a thorough explanation of each menu item for which we asked questions and guided us to what ended up as the perfect choice. We decided on Hand Cut Truffle Fries and Fried Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer. The Truffle Fries were crisp with a homemade house

3 Tips for Intro-preneurs to FREE YOURSELF of Stress Have you ever felt like you had low energy, constant headaches, aches, pain, insomnia, rapid heartbeat or even loss of sexual desire? These symptoms can be attributed to stress and, according to an article published by American Psychological Association (2017), money and work have consistently topped the list of stressors. For many entrepreneurs figuring out cash flow and burning the midnight oil is a constant theme. In light of these maladies, here are my three personal destressors: breathing, meditation, and exercise.

FIRST TIP is simple, breathe. The normal breathing we do tends to be short. It does not maximize the oxygen our mind and body need. When performing proper breathing, we are consciously inhaling fully, holding, and fully exhaling. The way to perform this exercise is by sitting and relaxing. Breathe in fully as much air as you can and hold it for as long as you comfortably can. Next, breathe out through your mouth and forcefully push out as much air as possible. Then you rinse and repeat, following this breathing pattern until you feel both your mind and body relax. It typically takes about 5 minutes to get the desired results. I do it when I’m starting to feel overwhelmed. It’s a simple exercise and it’s convenient because it can be done anywhere. The SECOND TIP to unwind is through meditation. The benefits of meditation are numerous, but in this case what’s important is it helps lower stress levels. Personally, I practice two different types of meditation. The first is that I sit cross-legged in silence for 30 minutes. Thoughts will come and go in my mind, but what I focus on is my breath, inhaling and exhaling. The second type I practice is guided in which I listen to nature (waterfalls, ocean waves, birds chirping) and blend it with positive affirmations. Other different meditation practices you can look into are heart rhythm meditation, Guided Visualization, Zazen and Mindfulness. The key to meditation is consistency. You’ll notice relaxation and calming of the mind. The THIRD TIP is to exercise. Not only does your body need exercise for physical wellness, but it also needs it to destress. Things that I do on a weekly basis include running, stretching, body weight workouts, high intensity interval training, jump rope, and weightlifting. It is recommended that we exercise 3-5 times a week at 30-minute intervals. Not only will you notice less stress, but the additional side effects include losing weight, gaining confidence, and looking better. As entrepreneurs, we are often fighting for our freedom to live life on our terms. We are so busy creating solutions to problems, that we create issues for ourselves. Try the 3 exercises above to keep crushing it in business while also taking care of your stress levels. Your body and mind will thank you for it.

Your Leap of Faith to

FREEDOM

Let’s be real now! How the hell do you have any peace of mind when you are NOT living on your own terms? Now, I’m not discouraging those who have a 9-5 job because there are quite a few who enjoy it. But, how can you NOT take the leap of faith of going after your dreams. After all, when we go after our dreams, there are unlimited possibilities. What if I told you that you are one choice away from making the biggest decision to taking your life to greatness? Sounds amazing! I will tell you the 3 keys you must do to not only make your leap of faith to freedom, but to believe in it.

TRUST IN YOU!

A lot of times people lack faith in taking the leap of faith. I’m here to tell you that you need to trust in yourself a little more because I promise you when you are consistent on your journey, great things happen. The question is…..do you trust yourself enough to weather the storm? No matter what struggles come along the way…..you must understand that your dreams are bigger and nothing will stop you. Discover who you are and then trust in you!

YOUR MINDSET

Let me tell you something! Your positive mindset is the most important thing because if you have a negative mindset, then how are you going to be able to trust yourself to take the leap of faith to freedom? Being an entrepreneur is NOT easy, but it can be simpler if your mindset is filled with abundance. It’s what keeps your belief in yourself and it’s what helps you keep on trusting yourself. If you find yourself having feelings of negativity, try what Brian Smith, UGG America founder does. He says over and over again, “I choose love. I choose love.” It helps elevate his mindset from a state of negativity to a state of positivity.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS BELIEVE

You will have people dragging you down, discouraging you, and most of all you will get a lot of NOs along the way when trying to acquire your first customer. But, you have to keep on believing in your dreams, your work ethic, and YOURSELF! The amount of drive that you should have to make the impossible POSSIBLE is unlimited. Nothing will stop you and neither will you because you believe in your dreams. If you find it difficult to believe in yourself, reach out to people who lift you up. In no time you will see yourself back on track to achieving the success you’re looking for. These 3 keys are incredibly important! They all connect to one another and, most importantly, they build you to being stronger than ever. So always understand, if you want to take a step to freedom, it all starts with taking the leap of faith. ENTREPRENEURLBDMAGAZINE.COM LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE 29

DON’T BE A FROG IN HOT WATER Do you know how to cook a frog? It’s a very simple process. You should just gently put the frog in warm water and turn on the stove; the frog will feel like it’s in heaven, taking a pleasant and cozy bath. As the water gets hotter, the frog adjusts its body temperature to the boiling point, the point of no return, when he can no longer move. By the time he realizes he’s not taking a bath, he will be cooked to perfection and served on a silver platter. Does this story feel familiar? We humans are a little bit like frogs, about to be cooked in our own comfort zone. Too many times we put ourselves in situations where we feel comfortable enough to do what we are expected to do, and we adjust, like the frog, paying a high price for not getting out sooner than later. It can take us months, even years, to realize we’ve wasted time, energy, relationships and our dreams. Below are 5 simple steps on how to jump out of the water before it’s too late. 1. Think about your comfort zone and describe it in factual terms. Write in detail what it means for you to be comfortable. Write it like a statement, for example, “My comfort zone means not worrying about money, but having a predictable economy and making some plans for the future.” 2. Write a list of what you’ve always dreamt about, but have disregarded because you were afraid of ________ (fill in the blank). For example, afraid of failing, losing your tranquility, loved ones, stability or something else. 3. Think about your past and recall all the events when you felt like doing something, but your fear stopped you. Go back in time as far as you can. 4. Go back to your childhood, when you were about 6 to 8 years old. What was

30 LIFE BY DESIGN JULY 2018

your dream? What was your answer anytime somebody asked you about your future? Who did you want to become? 5. While you are visiting your childhood, also write down what you were told, if you were bullied at school, if your parents or your teachers told what was right or what was most convenient for them. How were you described by others? For example, I was always described as “too much,” “too opinionated,” “too intense,” etc. Now it’s time for conclusions. If you feel thrilled about your present and what you have accomplished, stay in the warm water and don’t ever let it boil. But, if you feel you are adjusting and the temperature is rising, be ready to jump; get out of your comfort zone and dare to be who you want to be. Get into action. Do whatever it takes to be who you are, embrace your greatness because you, my friend, are a miracle and the whole world is waiting for the gift you, and only you, can offer. You don’t need to adjust to being loved; you don’t need to change to be accepted; you don’t need to fit in. You are not in this world to make others happy. The world belongs to the ones who dare to be themselves despite others’ opinions and expectations. You are in this world to transform, inspire, create, and to believe in the endless possibilities your own existence brings to the whole universe and act accordingly to your wildest dreams.

The Generation Y and

Millennial Response to Co-living As we enter a period of vast redefinition in technology and industry, the presence of Generation Y/Millennials in the workforce has remained a constant stream of power. This decade of individuals, born in the 1980s-1990s (although the specific dates vary), are frequently situated at the forefront of professional success. They exhibit a firm grasp on what it means to thrive and innovate in a shifting society, especially when it comes to paving the way for new entrepreneurial advancements. However, less attention is given to how this group tends to operate in their personal life. What do they find most important? What are their aspirations? What do they want out of a home and relationship? We’re about to explore these trends and find out how they tie into the coliving movement. In many ways, Generation Y is reimagining what a full life means. Gone is the large-scale desire to marry young and start a huge family -- instead, they exhibit a yearning for self-sufficiency, imagination, and experiences. This means that Gen Y and Millennials aim to travel and rotate their location constantly, trading routine for adventure. Not only are trips taken more frequently by these individuals, but also for longer periods of time, which means that alternative residence options such as coliving become ideal preferences to suit this exploratory lifestyle. However, this is not to say that relationships aren’t valued. In fact, Gen Y/ Millennials show an increasing propensity to live with others, recognizing the value of interactions and connections that come alongside it. In fact, the rate of this generation living with housemates has gone up by 39% from 2005 to 2015 -- and this isn’t just a response to the cost of living. For this group, coliving provides a viable way to accommodate independence while retaining bonds with others. With the tendency for Gen Y/Millennials to pursue varied career options aside from a typical 9-5, their idea of work has also shifted. Among pioneering their own businesses and operating within a freelance economy, the value of contacts and surroundings has taken first priority. What does this mean for a home? It tells us that this group realizes how much potential a space can hold. Working from home, brainstorming with fellow entrepreneurs, and accessing advanced resources are all elements that no longer need to be found outside the house, and this generation is taking advantage of it. It’s clear that the Gen Y and Millennial crowd has shaken up the traditional format of life’s trajectory for the better. With the ability to construct their own definition of happiness, seek more gratifying modes of play and travel, and maintain attention to personal relationships, coliving offers these individuals a way to thrive to the fullest extent. As coliving continues to gain traction, it will be fascinating to see how the future of this process takes hold. by Christine McDannell kindredquarters.com

Hard Work Equals Freedom COMING CLEAN Let me tell you a secret: I’m not a natural athlete. I’m not now, and have never been. In school, I was always more interested in making friends than playing sports. But then my mom took me skiing for the first time. I was hooked. I still wasn’t an athlete, but for skiing, it was worth being tired and sore. Years later I had nearly graduated from high school, and all I wanted was the freedom of the ski slope. In my mind, there was no way I was trading the sort of freedom I got from whipping down the French Alps for a university education. When I informed my mom of this, she didn’t miss a beat. She responded, “That’s fine Chris. Then you can pay for your own ski vacations.” Mothers really know how to ‘hit you where it hurts.’ Truly, this only motivated me and I decided to train to be a ski instructor. HARD WORK But remember, I’m not an athlete. Sure I could go on ski vacations a few times a year and be fine, but to be a ski instructor I’d have to train hard, and I’d have to train a lot. I practiced 20 hours a week on a dry ski slope in Bracknell, Berkshire. This meant four nights a week after work, and at least once on the weekend, you could see me practicing on this plastic brush slope. I was dedicated. I took courses, practiced, and honed my skills. I was tired, I was sore, and at times I thought I was hopeless. But I stuck with it and worked hard.

At the time it seemed like a big buy-in, but looking back it was a bargain. My hard work resulted in me becoming a ski instructor which meant I got to go skiing five seasons straight. Being an instructor was a non-stop job, so it gave me a strong work ethic. We only had one day off a week, and we’d use that freedom to go skiing! FREEDOM This experience also led to other opportunities and became the foundation of my career. I didn’t have sales experience or a degree like everyone else at IBM - instead, I went skiing - but I did have life experience. Now I run my own business and had the freedom to relocate to San Diego. I’ve kept my clients from around the globe and created a local audience, too. The secret is I still work hard. But I also have freedom. SETTING YOURSELF FREE I’d like you to do a quick exercise. Grab a pen and paper and sit comfortably and answer the following question: What would freedom look like as a lived experience, and what actionable steps can you take to get there? Focus on your steps, and your future is sure to follow.

Freedom From the Meaningless About halfway through the year I like to take a mental note on the progress of projects and efforts I had set out to accomplish for myself. This is a great time to celebrate the freedoms and small victories you have earned along the way with your journey in minimalism. Remember that acknowledging and showing gratitude when you gain something from your small lifestyle changes is a great way to reinforce your positive behaviors and stay the course with your minimalism. FREEDOM FROM CLUTTER If you started purging out a small space in your house and have made some significant leeway, cheers to you! Messy bathrooms and pantries are great places to start small and reclaim your space while also seeing how much of a difference it can make. It can be difficult to keep these high traffic areas simple and clean, but once you do, it’s just simple upkeep to keep them organized and clear. FREEDOM FROM OWNERSHIP Have you resisted the waves of marketing and consumerism by strapping down on unnecessary purchases? Have you realized you don’t need to buy to own an experience? Sounds like you are not burdened by ownership and enjoy the freedom to go about your life without stuff dragging you down. Just think, 1 out of 11 Americans pays upwards of $90 for self-storage a month. But that’s not a ball and chain that holds you down, you are free to travel lightly. FREEDOM FROM CHOICES One of my biggest victories this year was conquering my wardrobe and bringing down the number of clothes I actually use. This continues to be a simple thing in minimalism that reinforces every day why I choose to own less. I simply don’t stress about what I wear as much anymore because I reduced my closet to multifunctional pieces that work well in many settings. Less stuff, more space. Less stress, more joy. Living in minimalism, thriving at the meaningful. And all of this because you choose to renounce needless consumption and search for freedom from consumerism. If you haven’t already, claim your independence from the things in life that weigh you down and take action against the clutter of life. Generosity Quotes & Why You Need Them Everyone is looking for the key to success. “What is that ONE thing that will make me massively successful?” “What is ONE piece of advice that you would give to someone just starting out?” “What is ONE thing that has helped you to become successful?” ONE THING.

Check out 5 of the most powerful quotes about generosity:

Here is a reality check; it’s not one thing. It takes a lot of “things” to see success. However, if I could give you one single tip, it would be generosity.

You give your all, and yet you always feel as if it costs you nothing.”— Simone de Beauvoir

How can generosity be the answer to massive success? Let me tell you... Sea Of Galilee There are two lakes in Israel: The Sea of Galilee and The Dead Sea. Both lakes are attached to the Jordan River. The Sea of Galilee is fed by the Jordan River and it then feeds back to the river and other streams. The Sea of Galilee is the lake that nourishes most of Israel, it is filled with life and, in turn, it gives life to many. The Dead Sea, on the other hand, is also fed by the Jordan River, but the water of The Dead Sea goes nowhere. The Dead Sea does not feed anything and it keeps all the water it is given. The Dead Sea is barren and lifeless. Any life that tries to live in it dies. There are other lakes around the world that also only receive and do not give, resulting in only death. You see, one is given life and then it gives life, while the other is given life, but keeps all that it receives. I know that none of us wants to be barren and lifeless. I don’t think most people understand the importance of generosity, though. If you ever want to grow, you need to give. Give your time, money, encouragement and love abundantly. I have met many people in my last 12 years in business, have been to hundreds of networking events, shot hundreds of weddings with hundreds of people, started multiple companies. I’ve failed and succeeded many times. I have never seen so many people who lack the concept of generosity as I see in today’s business world; however, I envision this changing. Too many people shove their business card in your face, add strangers on Facebook and then immediately pitch their business, and expect business to fall in their lap. This is not how successful people act nor is it a successful way to conduct business.

1. “There is no exercise better for the heart

than reaching down and lifting people up.”— John Holmes

2. “That’s what I consider true generosity: 3. “A fight is going on inside me,” said an old man to his son. “It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, selfpity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The same fight is going on inside you.” The son thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Which wolf will win?” The old man replied simply, “The one you feed.” — Wendy Mass, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life

4. “If you want to call attention to your good

deed, then it isn’t a good deed, it’s a selfserving one. Why? Not only have you patted yourself on the back, but you’re fishing for others to do the same.”— Donna Lynn Hope

5. “You cannot do a kindness too soon be-

cause you never know how soon it will be too late.”— Ralph Waldo Emerson No matter what you do, where you live, what religion you are or what race, generosity is important. It is more than important; generosity is a necessity. Remember these quotes daily. Remember when you are conducting business, when you are talking to others, that generosity is one other those “ONE THINGs” that can radically change your business. Generosity is giving without expecting anything in return. If you can do things from a place of pure generosity, you will have never ending business. People do business with people they know, like, and trust.

GRIT

BOOK REVIEW

WWW.CRUZINSOCIALMEDIA.COM Contact hello@cruzinsocialmedia.com to schedule a consultation for your social media.

Grit is a very unique word. It is not used as much, but it’s very similar to the words grind, hustle, persistence, never quitting and the sense of relentlessness. The question the author talks about is whether grit exists. Most successful people have a sense of grit, but what’s nice is that the author talks about how to induce, foster, create the feeling or having the personality of grit. It’s actually a combination of things, like passion and skills and the work behind it. The author talks about how in order to have grit, a person must love what they do and still aim to be better. I guess in a way it’s passion mixed with mastery. Passion is doing what you love doing and there’s not a whole lot of people who actually do what they love. So having the love gives you more of a chance to be gritty in anything that you do.

Once you’ve spent time and years in a certain area, then there’s part you that wants to excel and get deeper into that skill or that passion. And that allows a person to move forward, be resilient and keep going because there’s a sense of growth in it. So it’s neverending and it’s not just about not giving up. She’s talking about not giving up on something that you love, but more in a positive way is by growing into loving what you do. I thought that was pretty interesting. I love the fact that your passion, what you love, is important and that will drive you further into it.

SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE ULTIMATE EQUALIZER. IT GIVES A VOICE & A PLATFORM TO SPREAD THEIR MESSAGE.

People are moved by pain or pleasure, so I love how the author looks on the positive side, which is your passion that will push you further. I recommend this book even if you don’t have grit yet on what you’re doing. It’s a good guide to find your passion. And the author talks about a more realistic approach that starts with an interest.

The first step in having grit is fostering passion by being open to experiences and new things. That starts with a personal interest. The author talks about how there is a misconception that when you like something that you’re immediately passionate about it and she talks about how it takes time to know whether your interest will become your passion.

For anyone having a hard time figuring out their passion, allow yourself time to step back and look at what you’re interested in. It could be multiple things at the same time, but it’s the time that will allow you to recognize which one you are more passionate about. And focus on that and move forward.

So it’s interest, passion, and then mastery.

What’s Going On San Diego? Featuring Jessica Silbaugh of 9Round - East Village So unique and intriguing, Life By Design sat down and chatted with the owner of 9Round - East Village, a kickboxing themed fitness program that delivers an ultimate body transformation in just 30 minutes. The owner, Jessica Silbaugh, created this proprietary system. Check out this story of how she got started. Jessica had wanted to own a gym since she was in high school. She has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but was a little scared to take that plunge. She credits her 9-month MBA program in Spain with giving her the courage to take that leap – to overcome fear and get out of her comfort zone. When 9Round came up in Jessica’s research, her accounting training kicked in and she started crunching numbers and looking at the business backend. Everything made total sense and it married her passion for fitness with her business background, so she got head strong and plowed forward with opening her gym. A deep connection with health and fitness is what ignited Jessica’s desire to open her own gym. Her stepfather was very much into bodybuilding and she found herself attracted to it at a young age. She grew up watching the likes of Bob Paris (former Mr. Universe), Bev Francis (a top female bodybuilder), and Rachel McLish (the first Ms. Olympia). Watching these icons and having the exposure from her stepfather is what captured health and wellness into Jessica’s heart. Jessica’s passion for bodybuilding and fitness never faltered and in her early twenties she found a new love in boxing. After moving to San Diego, Jessica discovered Muay Thai (Thai boxing) and again found herself with a new interest. Through her adoration with boxing and bodybuilding, Jessica molded a new workout routine combining these two modalities. One feature that sets this gym apart from others is that trainers at 9Round

East Village work to light the fire within you and not just beneath you because anyone can extinguish a fire underneath you, but a fire within you causes you to push forward and strive to crush your goals. “A life is a journey, not a destination” is the motto Jessica instills at her gym. She states, “you must learn from the journey and just make sure that you are taking steps to get to where you want to be.” Freedom for Jessica is all about not having to worry about having money to help others when those needs arise. Freedom is about giving back from everything you have received. It’s not just financial, though. It’s a mental thing as well, but giving back and helping others is the ultimate result of working toward a life of freedom. Deeply researching your business idea – making sure you are truly passionate about it - is the advice Jessica would give someone else who wants to open their own business. She feels people fail at business because they don’t understand the backend side. Jessica also advises to have a strong team as “nobody is a self-made anybody.” According to Jessica, strength in mobility is what gives entrepreneurs freedom. When you keep yourself fit and healthy, you provide a space where your endorphins build up and you keep that range of motion flexible to allow you to move with ease and accomplish the goals you set for yourself. If you’re interested in shaking up your workout routine or just need something a little un-ordinary to spark your fire, you should check out 9Round – East Village. It’s unique, fun, proven, and guarantees results. by Janine Holman facebook.com/janine.l.holman

Five Things Our Kids NEED I’m a huge believer that we should be our kids’ biggest fans and cheerleaders. Our homes need to be the place that our kids feel the greatest! Here are the top 5 things I believe our kids need the most from adults. 1. WORDS There is no possible way that anyone on planet earth will ever be a bigger encourager to Caleb Matthew Maddix than me! I’m determined to speak words of life, hope, and faith over my son. I’ve experienced such positive results in the behavior of my boy whenever I speak encouraging and positive words in his presence. He knows that his dad is his number one fan! 2. TIME Kids need our TIME more than anything on earth. There is no home big enough, no jet ski fast enough, no car nice enough, no Xbox cool enough, and no amount of money that can replace TIME with our kids. They need us, and they need ALL of us. The average dad spends only 17 minutes a day with his kids, and most of that isn’t even quality time. These dads love their kids, and they want to give them everything, but “everything” isn’t what kids want: they want YOU and your time. We should make it a practice to play with our kids doing what THEY want to do. We should make it a priority to take family walks and enjoy family meals without cell phones, the TV, or distractions. 3. ATTENTION Have you ever observed a child desperately seeking their parents’ attention? It’s heartbreaking to watch, and even more heartbreaking when the parents aren’t sensitive to their kids’ need for their attention. I’ve watched Caleb’s self-esteem sky rocket whenever I give him my undivided attention when we are together and when I listen only to him

when he is speaking to me. Parents, you need to get your head out of the sky and give your kids the attention they so deserve! 4. AFFECTION Are you aware that the average child needs 8 meaningful touches a day? We need to shower our kids with physical affection. I always make it a practice to touch Caleb on the arm whenever he is speaking to me. I give him a huge hug before and after school! Our kids need to feel comfortable in our laps and in our arms. They should never have to deal with the psychological effects of living in a void of affection from their parents! 5. PEACE Kids need peaceful environments and homes. Our kids should never see us lose control and raise our voices. I can proudly say in that in 12 years of Caleb’s life, he has never experienced me “YELLING” at him or raising my voice. It’s unnecessary and very ineffective to scream at our kids. I believe that rules without relationship lead to rebellion. Most kids are “rebellious” because they are attention-starved by their parents; they need their parents to provide a home full of peace. You are the scum of the earth if you ever harm your child physically or make them feel anything less than peace when they are in your presence.

San Diego’s most unique and entertaining entrepreneurship event!

FRIDAY JULY 27th 6:30pm – 9:00pm IDEA1 Building 899 Park Blvd. San Diego, CA 92101

Please take this advice to heart and allow it to remind you to speak life over your kids, to shower them with affection, to spend quality time with them and to give them a home full of peace. I believe in you and pray that you’ll be the best parent you can possibly be for the health and future of your kids. by Matt Maddix maddixpublishing.com
