Autumn 2020 The colours for our interior design inspiration in 2021 are already being mooted. Colours are muted and calm, creating a serene haven. Your home is your castle in 2020. We are spending a lot more time than we ever planned to indoors and we need to dispel the anxieties that are beyond our control. Soft sage greens, cool stone shades, delicate pinks and contrast earthy neutrals are taking us back to basics. I have looked at combining textures and neutrals with natural materials and simple shapes. Keeping clean lines will help to create that calm space. So may rooms are becoming multi-functional with working from home becoming the new normal. Creating a soothing space will allow you to take your room from day to evening, going from pendant to table lamp, lighting the fire will help to cosy up the room after the zoom meetings.

Autumn 2020
Kick start the new year with a fresh start in your home. Small changes can have a really big effect on the feel and look of a space while also adding value to your property. Take your kitchen for example, a whole kitchen revamp can be costly and time consuming however a simple change of wall tiles, a new splashback or even a feature wall can give a fresh new feel to one of the most used rooms in our home. The kitchen is first of all a functional space, however they often become a social hub for the home. Not only a place for cooking but a place for starting the day and coming together to debrief at the end of a busy day. Therefore it is important it becomes a space you enjoy spending time in. Somewhere which reflects your sense of style without compromising on functionality. At Tile Choice we have a large selection of wall tiles available to suit all styles and applications. With wall tiles to compliment any kitchen style in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes you can create a unique look helping you to inject some personality into your home dĂŠcor. Kitchens often mean smaller areas of tiling, meaning people can be bold with their choices without fear of overpowering a room.
Hexagonal tiles will keep your home on trend and effortlessly add interest to your walls. The Hive range consists of 4 colour options allowing for a number of looks to be created when combining multiple shades in a pattern of your choice. Alternatively one colour used alone can be equally effective. Choose hexagonal tiles to instantly update a space.

claverley farm logs Claverley Farm Logs is a family business based on the outskirts of the village of Claverley. Brothers Chris and Tim ensure the logs they sell are well seasoned and barn stored ready for you to burn. All of our Seasoned logs are less than 22% moisture and are a mix of oak, chestnut and Birch. The kiln dried logs are less than 18% Moisture and are Oak, Ash and Birch. Both types are ideal as it is important to burn dry wood so not to damage your burner or chimney. We sell them in either Bulk Bags
or Loose Loads (2.5 bags worth) and deliver them up to a 12mile radius of our farm. The majority of our wood is locally sourced and is from well managed woodlands. We only sell hardwoods as they are denser than softwoods and therefore have a longer burning time. We look forward to seeing new and existing customers throughout this winter ahead. Please do telephone us for more information or go onto our website where you will see the full range of products that we sell which you can also purchase online.

well-placed mirrors will also help bounce light around the room
“Clients are telling us that although they are working from home, instead of helping them to keep on top of the cleaning, they actually feel like there is more to do. Spending more time at home they are noticing things which they hadn’t previously, leaving early and coming back late, and that is making the situation even more stressful. I think a lot of people don’t even realise how tense they are feeling; living and working in the same environment limits your ability to cut off, so it feels like there is no down time.”
- Tidy up at the end of the day. Scoop everything work related into a box at the end of the day so your room goes back to its original use. Empty the bin too, so you start with a clear workspace the next day.
If you have a ‘spare room’ this would be ideal to work in, keeping everything separate and you can quite literally shut the door on work at the end of the day. However, if you need to work in a room you use all the time, a little planning can make all the difference:
- Consider hiring a professional housekeeping service. Bright and Beautiful can clean your home in next to no time, working in expertly trained teams, using eco-friendly products, whilst you carry on working. No hassle and a beautifully clean home when you’ve finished for the day.
- Avoid the kitchen table. It might seem practical, but if it’s busy with family coming in, you’ll be interrupted. And you may even have to clean up before you start.
If you’d like our expert help to keep your home feeling like a sanctuary give Charmaine a call on 01902 290 290 to arrange a bespoke quotation for your home, or visit www.brightandbeautifulhome.com
- Inform the family. If the door’s shut, do not disturb, so they know when you’re on an important call. - If you’re working in a bedroom, consider a bureau style desk, so everything work related can be hidden at the end of the day.

jewellery collection tops £21,000 at staffordshire auction house… MD and Head Auctioneer at Cuttlestones, Ben Gamble, says:
A collection of modern designer jewellery sold for over £21,000 during Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones’ online auction on Thursday 3rd September.
“Auction rooms are a perfect platform for selling top-end modern and designer items. This significant collection perfectly illustrates how we can reach niche markets, including designer jewellery collectors. Not only is the vendor very pleased with the result, but bidders hailing from the UK and further afield are delighted to have acquired pieces that rarely come to market.”
Amassed by a private collector over the past two decades, the collection included earrings, pendants, bracelets necklaces from big-name designers including Theo Fennel of London, Bvlgari, Chopard, Roberto Coin and others; presenting a rare opportunity for label lovers to pick up designer jewellery items that don’t frequently come to market. Split into some 21 lots, the collection attracted the attention of online bidders from around the world. Highlights included Lot 378, a Roberto Coin ‘Elephant Skin’ bracelet, ear clip & necklace set which sold for £2,000; Lot 394 – a Theo Fennell of London ‘Whip’ collection collarette, bangle & 2 pairs of earrings which achieved £6,200; Lot 390 – a Bvlgari 18ct white gold diamond set sprung ring which went for £2,100 and Lot 388 – a Chopard 18ct white gold ‘Love Happy’ necklace which saw the hammer fall at £1,500.

sunrise of tettenhall care home: open for new residents and safe regular visits taken into consideration.
Sunrise of Tettenhall provides residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as respite care services.
Looking ahead to the winter, we’re confident in our ability to continue this success with the support of all our team members, residents and relatives.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have focused tirelessly on protecting the safety of residents and team members.
The son of a resident, said:
We are now open to new residents and we are facilitating safe regular visiting. With cases again on the rise across the UK, we’re continuing to keep in place our rigorous infection prevention control measures to ensure our home is safe this winter.
“The level of care shown by all staff at ‘Sunrise of Tettenhall’ over the last few weeks has been absolutely outstanding. Given the extra pressure of covid-19 and the need to keep all resident safe and well, I cannot fault the attention of the carers and their level of commitment. The leadership of the manager has played a great part (with her senior colleagues) in safely negotiating their exceptionally challenging times. Thank you Sunrise!”
Visits to our home are guided by our framework. If it is safe to visit, all visitors go through a screening process which includes checking their temperatures. They’re also equipped with and advised on how to properly wear PPE and are then escorted through the building. This balanced approach has been a success, and we’ll continue to allow these to take place as long as it is safe.
General Manager, Su Gallagher, said: “I want Sunrise of Tettenhall to continue to be forward thinking and responsive to the ever-changing nature of healthcare. I want our care home to provide a safe and familial environment and always give the best to those who seek care from us. Every Resident is the most important person in someone else’s life and for them to trust us is paramount. I want us to be the best we can be.”
In addition, we have now developed a framework for visitors to be awarded an “enhanced visitor status” through our ‘Safe Visits’ protocol. This protocol identifies mechanisms that would allow relatives to visit their loved ones in a safe, controlled, and managed way where there is a clinical need. Each protocol is then personalised to the needs of both the resident and relative, with the needs, risks, training requirements and potential outcomes identified and

a great start at wrekin college the classroom.
A Shropshire school has returned to the new academic year determined to ensure traditional events outside the classroom continue to be held despite the current crisis.
“Creating specific year bubbles and a meticulouslycrafted timetable has also meant children can move about for lessons and enjoy extra-curricular events such as drama productions and band rehearsals.”
Wrekin College not only staged a musical evening of performances with a socially-distanced audience but has also taken it’s new year seven intake on a team-building day climbing the Wrekin and made the most of its extensive grounds to run a whole school cross country event.
Mr Firth said their Young Musician of the Year finals proved a hugely popular event with only parents of the performers invited to attend with a sociallydistanced seating plan in the school chapel. Rehearsals are ongoing for the school’s ambitious production of Sound of Music and keeping to their bubbles pupils took part in the Whole School Cross Country competition in different parts of the school grounds on the same day.
Headmaster Mr Tim Firth said today that pupils had returned after the summer holidays buoyant and eager to make the most of being back in school with all the opportunities that created for them.
The Wrekin Business School has also introduced a new preparing for ‘life beyond school’ conference for the Lower Sixth year group.
“We were very fortunate that our online learning programme was extremely successful and widely praised by pupils and parents but it has been magnificent to see pupils return to the campus,” added Mr Firth.
It will focus on career options and what employers are seeking from Sixth Formers who go into the workplace with qualifications.
“They arrived back with a positive mindset and eager to get involved. Our ethos at Wrekin College has always been to just give it a go, do your best and always maximise your opportunities.
“I am very grateful to the staff who have gone above and beyond to come up with ways in which we can keep our school safe and provide these opportunities for the children. I am also very proud of our young people at Wrekin who have observed all the measures we have put in place to keep the school safe and have embraced their new normal and continued to do their best to make the most of the opportunities open to them here at school.”
“It is why we felt it was important to do all we could to ensure as much as possible of the usual Wrekin way of life continued with events and activities in areas such as music, sport and pastoral going on outside

education
My invitation to you whose contribution to our school cannot be simply measured. You should expect all of this as a minimum if you are considering independent education.
Tettenhall College has a proud and illustrious history. You may have often driven past our gates, perhaps you have visited our beautiful campus, and you may even have enjoyed your own school days here, being an Old Tettenhallian.
So, my invitation to you, is to consider visiting us here at Tettenhall College to learn more about what we offer our young learners today. Whilst the restrictions imposed upon us by Covid-19 mean that we have adapted our approach to tours and open events, we are safely and effectively welcoming visitors.
We celebrate our history; we cherish all that has come before. Yet the focus of today is our pupils, from our youngest learners starting their educational journey in our nursery from the age of 2, to our Senior School pupils, preparing to follow in the footsteps of this year’s A level cohort who are now starting their degree courses at some of the finest universities in the UK.
In particular, I would love to meet you to explain the new ‘Pathways’ Programme that will be offered to our Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils. I will tell you about our academic offering and how our Scholarships are designed to secure the very highest outcomes. I will also be happy to talk to you about the Tettenhall Bursary Scheme which strives to make this very special education available to as many young learners as possible.
Tettenhall College today is a school that is firmly focused on preparing our wonderful young people for the world that they will form. The challenges the world presents are many and varied. It is our responsibility as a place of learning and growth, to ensure that all Tettenhall College pupils are prepared in the very best, fundamental ways, to meet these. Academically, culturally, personally and spiritually. The Tettenhall College that I am proud to lead is today a school that place the pursuit of excellence in all that we do, at the very heart of our mission.
Yet most importantly, I look forward to listening and learning as you explain what you are looking to secure for your family. The pursuit of excellence in all that we do is not a strapline or a motto. It is a conviction that by learning about every young person as an individual, whose talents will be many and varied, we can help them become the very best versions of themselves, whatever this may be.
Of course, as all independent schools should, we offer small, personal and tailored academic classes, delivered by outstanding teachers. We have wonderful facilities and a school site that is extremely conducive to learning. Our academic and co-curricular programme stretches young minds and presents opportunities to explore and strive through music, sport, technology and much more. Pupils’ pastoral care is first-rate and our boarding community fosters the most superb, cosmopolitan group of young people
Relationships are built on communication. Please accept my invitation to come and meet with us, so we might start a conversation and perhaps take the very first steps on the most important journey your child might take. Mr Christopher McAllister Headmaster

RECIPES BY MIKE WHITEHURST
christmas recipe 2020 I do love it when it drops cold and dark in the run up towards Christmas, the winter warming aromas in the kitchen are very comforting. For those who like the dark meat from a turkey try this stuffed turkey thigh ballotine. Ask your butcher to prep your turkey into a crown and de-bone the thighs. You can roast the drumsticks in the tray with the crown to use to make the Boxing day pie. USEFUL INFO Preparation: Start the day before. Varying cooking times. Serves: 8 Effort: well worth it. EQUIPMENT • • •
Large chopping board Food processor such as a magimix with blade attachment Parchment paper
• • • • •
Kitchen foil Pestle and mortar Roasting tray Mixing bowls Large pans
STUFFED TURKEY LEG • • • •
2 kilo of turkey thigh (2 thighs) 16 thinly sliced rashers of smoked streaky bacon (rind removed) 2 large leeks trimmed and washed then sliced 1 sprig of - rosemary, thyme, sage, parsley
• • • •
(leaves picked) 1 pinch of maldon sea salt 2 eggs 100g of butter Maldon sea salt
METHOD - read through first then measure out all of your ingredients before starting Prepare the 2 thighs separately. Lay the thigh on a chopping board skin side down. Where the meat is thick, trim it off the top and from the sides with a sharp knife to get an even height and straight sides. Fry off leeks in butter or rapeseed oil with fresh herbs. In the food processor pulse the cooked leek, herbs and raw turkey trimmings with a pinch of sea salt and 2 egg yolks to get a rough puree. Layout a large piece of kitchen foil topped with a piece of parchment paper then layout enough overlapping streaky bacon to fit the thigh on. Lay the thigh on top of the bacon then spread the puree over the meat.

Pick the parch and foil up and push forward to start rolling the meat up. Once you have a large sausage shape twist the ends to make a Christmas cracker shape. Pre heat oven to 180oC and cook for 1 hour. Once cooked allow to cool enough so you can handle it and remove the foil and parchment paper then place in a large pan with 2 litres of chicken stock. Push the paper and foil down in to the stock and put a lid on. Allow to simmer for 20 minutes and then remove paper and foil from the stock. It should be clean and so all of the caramelisation going on during roasting ends up in your gravy. Whisk in gravy granules to the stock to make a quick gravy or you can reduce madeira in a separate pan and then add to the stock and allow to simmer down for an hour whisking in a few nobs of cold butter at the end to emulsify. If you like a thicker gravy you can add an equal amount of butter and flour rubbed together similar to making a roux. Put the ballotine back in the oven to brown the bacon. Allow to rest for 1 hour with a tin foil hat on and then carve.
BRAISED RED CABBAGE
METHOD
•
Thinly slice the red cabbage and onions and rinse well. Add all the ingredients to a large pan and simmer for about 3 hours or until the liquid has reduced and you are left with soft cabbage with a slight glaze to it. If there is too much liquid just simmer on low until evaporated. Keep stirring.
• • • • • • • •
1 large red cabbage sliced and rinsed under cold water 3 red onions finely sliced 1/2 tsp cinnamon 300ml of port Zest of 1 orange 1 tsp of all spice berries crushed in pestle and mortar 10 dates diced 150ml sherry or apple cider vinegar 150g soft dark brown sugar
BLUE CHEESE AND FIG SAUSAGE LOAF
METHOD
• • • • • • • •
Chop the figs into small pieces and place in a bowl. Crumble the blue cheese, finely dice the shallots, chop the parsley and pick the thyme leaves. Mix everything together with your sausage meat and mix well. Same prep as for the turkey thigh, layout a piece of foil with a piece of parchment paper sat on top then lay out the rashers of thinly sliced smoked streaky bacon with rind removed. Roll up to create a sausage, twist the ends and roast in the oven for about 40 minutes at 180oC then allow to cool removing the foil and paper and adding to the stock pan. Put the sausage loaf back in the oven for about 20 minutes to brown the bacon, slice and serve with the carrot and cardamom relish.
600g of sausage meat 10 think slices of smoked streaky bacon 50g Dried figs 50g of blue cheese 4 banana shallots 1 tsp Fresh thyme leaves A handful of Italian parsley stalks removed 1 jar of takefood preserves ‘carrot and cardamom relish’
SERVING SUGGESTION I suppose it goes without saying that the obvious choice is to serve it with Brussels sprouts and roast potatoes but my addition is my absolute favourite “garam masala spiced and roasted parsnips and sweet potatoes” the recipe for this is available on my website takefood.co.uk/recipes For help with my recipe please email me mike@takefood.co.uk

diet
plant based diets Plant based diets have seen an increase in popularity in recent years. The appeal for many people is reasons such as the high nutrient content, the health benefits, animal welfare, and affordability. In addition to these benefits it’s also one of the most sustainable diets for our planet. A completely plant based diet produces fewer greenhouse emissions than meat and dairy, and uses 2 thirds less land, water and energy than a meat and dairy based diet.
• Certain fortified oat milk brands such as Marks & Spencer’s brand oat milk • A supplement may be needed Iron • The key with plant based iron is including a variety of different sources into your diet every day • Iron is added to non-organic breakfast cereals • It’s also found in dark green leafy vegetables, soy products, tofu, dried apricots, wholegrains, nuts, seeds & pulses such as lentils
If you’ve been thinking of trying a plant based diet as one of your new year’s resolutions for 2022, then it should be well-planned in order to achieve a good nutritionally balance. This is because some nutrients are in shorter supply on a plant based diet. These nutrients include B12, calcium, omega 3, iodine, iron, zinc, and selenium. Here’s some tips for boosting your intake of these nutrients:
• Try having your iron rich foods with vitamin C rich foods such as peppers, citrus, or strawberries to increase absorption Zinc • Zinc found in fermented soya products such as tempeh and miso, are more easily absorbed,
Vitamin B12
• Pre-soak dried beans overnight before cooking them to increase absorption
• Try sprinkling fortified nutritional yeast into your meals; and consume fortified non-dairy milk daily
• Nuts, seeds and some fortified non-organic breakfast cereals also contain zinc
• A supplement may be needed
Selenium
Calcium
• Brazil nuts are an excellent source of selenium, just 4 Brazils nuts meets your daily selenium requirement
• Fortified non-dairy milk & yoghurts are a shopping list essential
I hope this has given you some food for thought when planning your plant based diet. Including as many of the listed foods into your diet as you can, is important for maintaining nutritional balance on a plant based diet. But done well the benefits can be many.
• Try having dried figs & almonds as a snack • Consume dark green leafy vegetables daily with a meal or juiced • Include sesame seeds, tofu, & red kidney beans into your diet Omega 3
This article was written by Maxine Palmer BSC, RD who is a registered Dietitian & Nutritionist, workplace health Dietitian, and accredited practitioner in Low FODMAP diets for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). www.restoremynutrition.co.uk
• Try adding omega 3 rich seeds & chopped nuts to your porridge or cereal; these include walnuts, ground flaxseeds (linseeds), hemp seeds, & chia seeds • Edamame beans are a great source of omega 3. • Algae oil contains omega 3 in a form more easily used than by our body • Consider switching to cooking oils such as hemp seed oil or rapeseed oil Iodine • If you like seaweeds such as nori, they can be a useful source of Iodine, though the Iodine content of seaweeds can fluctuate from too high to too low, and shouldn’t be relied upon

I have decided to start with a few cosy pieces to wear at home and still be glamorous and edgy, you will be able to make an entrance and stop the traffic, so make the most of the party season and be super fabulous!

nick & royston The Winter WOW factor!
A visit to your favourite hairdressers should always be a guilt-free, confidence-boosting and moodenhancing experience that not only transforms your hair but also revitalizes you! As we head into Winter after the most bizarre year to date, it seems more important than ever that we do so with a reenergised spirit and a fabulous sense of style! We’ve been catching up with Wolverhampton’s muchloved and award-winning destination salon Royston Blythe who are renowned for incredible hairdressing and for the fun-loving vibe in their luxury hair salon. We ask Nick and Royston to give us the lowdown on the winter hairstyles and colours that should be on our radar! Here’s what they had to say: ‘Never underestimate the power of fabulous hair to make you look and feel amazing! Well-nourished, carefully styled and beautifully coloured hair will boost your complexion, enhance your features and will transform the way you feel when you look in the mirror! Explains Royston Nick continues: ‘We all want to look good and a super-flattering new hairstyle will definitely give you a confidence boost! So whether you’re out to impress or (more importantly) to look and feel the best version of you, here’s what you should consider this for Autumn Winter 2020:
Dare to be short..
Consider that the perfect Pixie is the crop that suits your face shape. So many ladies are scared that a short hairstyle will not suit their face shape but if you visit an expert stylist then they will find a style to complement and enhance your features. Best Product: A drizzle of Kerastase Elixir Ultime to smooth down strays and instantly give that gloss-effect is a must. Colour Combo: 2 options: go for global. Choose a seamless platinum or a deep, rich chocolate to make a statement. Alternatively soft babylights are a stunning way to keep your pixie crop ultra-feminine and flattering.

The answer is no - you’re never too old for fabulous long hair, it’s just extremely important that it is styled to suit you; your hair is in good condition and it’s combined with stunning colour that adds interest and amplifies beauty. Best Product: For long and strong hair invest in Kerastase Extensioniste home care. The formulas in Extensioniste contain Creatine R, an amino acid that strengthens the fibers from within. You’re on your way to your strongest, most beautiful hair ever! Colour Combo: Subtle balayage, highlights or lowlights are perfect and can be adapted to suit the season.
Oh-so-Midi..
Flattering on basically everyone, the shoulder length bob aka ‘the lob’ is a super-versatile, easy to manage hairstyle that can be worn seriously chic or oh-so-relaxed. We’re currently loving the asymmetrical shoulder-length bob with textured highlights woven through that has also been spotten on J Lo! Best Product: Treat your hair to the benefits of Kérastase’s Styling L’Incroyable Blow Dry; a reworkable lotion that allows you to create flexible, touchable styles and a perfect blowdry with ease. Simply apply it to clean, damp hair and off you go! Colour Combo: Root stretch, Global Colour, Balayage, Highlights, Babylights - seriously the lob is the perfect cut for any of these colour techniques.

straight front teeth in as little as 4 months because it focuses only on the “social six”, the front teeth that most influence the smile. The process is further enhanced with the use of special nickeltitanium wires, which exert gentle pressure to force movement in the teeth.
Here at Wightwick dental we are accredited to use some simple braces which allow movement of your anterior teeth only and give fantastic cosmetic results in a very short space of time. We usually follow these up with a course of whitening treatment to give you a great smile to be proud of:
With clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires and is barely noticeable - and worn for only a fraction of the time compared to traditional braces.
Cosmetic Tooth Alignment With Quick Braces - Cfast Cfast is a simple, fast, gentle, minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that corrects alignment issues with the top and bottom front six teeth, and can level and round out the arches.
Or another alternative is - Smile TRU Clear Braces Have the smile of your dreams without anyone knowing that you are being treated. Smile TRU is a series of clear positioners that can be offered as an alternative to fixed braces for most people. Each positioner is designed to fit over the teeth and gently guide them into the desired position. They are comfortable, affordable, clear, safe, removable for eating and drinking, no dietary restrictions, minimal impact on daily routine.
Cfast uses clear orthodontic brackets and toothcoloured nickel-titanium wires. The treatment works much like that using clear aligners, but tooth movement is much more predictable and usually more than twice as quick. The nickel-titanium wires exert mild pressure to force the teeth to move, and this is done without the need for severe tightening which causes the discomfort noted in conventional orthodontic treatments.

• Your seat should be adjusted so that your feet are flat on the ground, your knees bent, your eyes level with the top of the computer screen. Put the screen on a stand or even on a ream of paper to bring it to the right height.
A large percentage of the Nation will still be experiencing an altered pattern of life, with many still having to work from home. If you work at a desk, in the workplace or at home, it’s too easy to stay sitting all day long only taking short, infrequent breaks and even staying put to eat lunch. It is no surprise that people are working longer and harder than ever before, the problem is that staying seated in the same position places strain on your back. Wherever you are working, getting away from your desk at lunchtime and at regular intervals throughout your working day is vital, even if it’s just for 10-15 minutes.
• Forearms should be flat and your elbows level with the desk or table. • Look for opportunities to exercise during the day; use the stairs, get off your bus/train/tube a stop earlier and walk or take a walk during your lunchbreak. If you are at home, walk around the garden, go up and down the stairs, walk to the bottom of the street. For more information on how to maintain a healthy posture, contact your local GCC registered Chiropractor at The Tettenhall Road Chiropractic Clinic.
To help prevent the effects of back pain while doing desk work, the BCA offers the following advice:- • Don’t sit for more than 30-40 minutes - stand up to stretch, change position and walk around a little. • Relax when sitting into your chair, have, your bottom against the seat back, your shoulder blades touching the back rest of the chair

snuggle in for winter to begin The darker nights are upon us and I don’t know about you but I just feel like snuggling in and hibernating ready for winter to begin, a lot of our lovely pets probably feel the same.
you have more than one cat, put more than one litter tray down. When out and about, check cars before you start them as cats like to climb inside a car engine to keep warm. Be aware that antifreeze is poisonous to dogs and cats, they will be tempted to lick it as it’s so sweet, just a tiny bit can kill so it needs to be kept well out of reach and take care not to spill any.
It’s not just us who feel the cold, our pets do too, rabbits will need plenty of extra warm bedding such as hay and straw, hutches should be cleaned out regularly and checked daily to ensure that they are not damp. Rabbits will still need their exercise in warm dry areas and also lots of company, if they don’t have another rabbit for company then ensure that you spend lots of good quality time with them. Whilst we might feel like hibernating, it’s important to remember that rabbits actually don’t hibernate, if your little one is losing weight, lethargic and not eating then these are signs that need to be taken seriously, get them to a Vet.
It’s great to share the tasty treats with our furry friends, especially at this time of year but take care that you know what’s in those treats. Chocolate is toxic for dogs and many cakes contain sultanas, raisins and currants which are toxic too. You could always try making a dog friendly mince pie with real meat and carrots, why not add some sweet potato too and come up with a fun festive name for them. There are loads of home-made treat ideas online for cats, dogs, rabbits, budgies, parrots and other species of pets too, why not take a look and make them a tasty treat of their own.
Dogs feel the cold too, just like us humans not all dogs are the same. Some dog breeds will be able to handle the cold much better than others, such as those with thick double coats like Siberian Huskies. Dogs with thin coats can be very vulnerable in cold weather as can small dogs, thinner dogs, puppies and older dogs, who will all get cold quicker. Pop a little coat on them if you feel they need it and watch out for signs of them being cold when you’re out, they may whine, seem anxious, shiver, lift their paws up or seem generally uncomfortable, get them home and warm them up.
Don’t forget the Wildlife as the winter months approach they will need some help, why not put some food out for them if you can spare it. Birds puff out their feathers to stay warm so please don’t mistake this for a fat bird, it could well be the complete opposite and they may really need some yummy scraps. Enjoy the seasonal period and get ready to snuggle in for winter to begin, I know I will be!!!
Cats may be reluctant to go out, preferring to stay inside and get cosy but some do still like to get out for some fresh air. If you have a cat you may like to pop a litter tray down for them, they may prefer to stay indoors on particularly cold days. If

as the year ends... From the end of November, freshly cut Christmas trees will be available in centres. When you get your tree home, put it in a stand or pot that can be kept moist, as warm temperatures and dry air inside the home make the tree absorb water very rapidly. Keep away from hot radiators, open fires and TV sets. This also applies to rooted trees, especially if you’re planning on planting it in the garden after Christmas.
Here we are again, coming to the end of another gardening year – and one that’s definitely been different to the previous one. No two gardening years are alike and you certainly learn never to expect the same successes and failures as the previous year. While it’s mild and there’s no frost in the ground plant bare root hedging and fruit trees. For some winter colour in the garden use shrubs such as Viburnum fragrans or Bodnantense Dawn, Skimmias, Gaultherias or Leucothoe. There is a wide choice of smaller shrubs available which can be planted into baskets and pots for colour during the winter and then transferred into the garden in the spring when you replant for summer.
We would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all again in the spring.
Continue planting pansies, wallflowers and winter bedding, the sooner it’s done now the better. If we do get a sharp frost winter pansy flowers will droop down but once they thaw out during the day, they pop back up giving colour even on a cold day. November is the ideal month for planting tulip bulbs. As the end of November approaches, many people start to purchase Christmas house plants. One of the best Christmas plants is the Poinsettia. It gives instant colour in a room. They like good light during the day and a warm room, never in a draught. Only water when the soil is dry and never stand in water for longer than 10 minutes. In a cooler room the brightly coloured cyclamen is ideal. They need good light at all times. Only water just as the foliage begins to wilt and make sure that any excess water is removed from saucers after 15 minutes. Also consider the Christmas Cherry with its shiny red-orange berries, Christmas cacti with its beautiful shrimp like red, pink, white or lavender flowers. Azaleas will flourish in either a warm or cool room and are very easy to keep, requiring plenty of water. Cacti and succulents have seen a resurgence this year and are ideal presents for encouraging the younger generation into gardening. We offer Planted Arrangements in baskets, which can be gift wrapped in cellophane and topped with a ribbon, as can any other plant we sell - making them an ideal present. For a living gift consider buying a shrub for the garden or a planted-up tub or hanging basket specifically designed for winter colour.

what does the stamp duty holiday mean? into the second half of the financial year.
On 8 July the Chancellor announced that the threshold at which Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) becomes payable on a main residence would be raised from £125,000 (£300,000 for first time buyers) to £500,000. He predicted that, as a result, 9 out of 10 people buying a main home before 31 March 2021 would pay no SDLT at all.
“Our friendly, professional team works with every client on an individual basis to make the whole process as stress free as possible and it is our privilege to help make our client’s dream home a reality” says Amy Lawton, Conveyancing Solicitor. In addition to Property, our other specialist legal services are Wills and Probate and all aspects of Family work. We can take instruction remotely where appropriate in most cases and offer safe home visits for the most vulnerable. Call us today on 01902 313311 to find out more.
So what does this mean? Well it certainly provides the opportunity for buyers to make a significant saving of up to £15,000 depending upon the price of the property and this could give a real boost to other areas of the economy as the ancillary effects of new homeowners decorating, furnishing, extending and improving come into effect. Here at Thornes our team has been working flat out. Pre-lockdown life was busy then almost immediately restrictions were lifted in May we felt a renewed surge in demand for our services. This has continued to be the case as we push forward

advise for landlords accordance with the lease. This might lead to a tenant seeking to recover damages for breach of covenant separately.
Commercial and residential tenants who fall into rent arrears due to the impact of Covid-19 are to be protected from eviction for at least three months (31st December 2020) and could be subject to further extension.
Could a tenant be compelled to close its premises?
This is covered in the Coronavirus Act 2020 and affects England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
As we have seen early in this pandemic, public health authorities can require businesses to close their premises to members of the public. This widely impacted on nonessential retail and hospitability businesses.
As the government instigates further restrictions on movement and the operation of businesses, in an attempt to control the spread of the outbreak, landlords may struggle with the impact on their buildings and income. In this article we outline some of the potential issues facing landlords of commercial properties below: in particular are set out below, but specific legal advice should be sought before any action is taken.
Where a public health authority requires a premises to close then the tenant must close the premises to members of the public. Subject to the extent of the closure, the tenant might be able to continue to operate its business from the premises (in a Covid-19 secure way) e.g. for processing online orders or takeaways.
Can a tenant terminate their lease arguing that the lease is frustrated?
Some leases contain a ‘keep open’ clause which requires the premises not to be left empty for a period which the closure exceeds. This is more common in shopping centre leases. However, if closure is required by law or required by a public health authority, it is unlikely that any keep open covenant would be enforceable by a landlord.
It is unlikely that a tenant will be able to argue that the lease has been frustrated. Frustration of a lease occurs due to a supervening event meaning the lease is no longer capable of performance. The burden of proof for frustration rests with the tenant and the is difficult hurdle to overcome.
Can I close the building? As we have seen previously, it is possible that some premises may be required to close by law. Currently this still includes Nightclubs and in Tier 3 locations: gyms and some hospitability venues.
Some tenants might argue that a temporary inability to occupy or operate from the premises due to Covid-19 restrictions could be a supervening event. Whilst these circumstances have not been tested in court, it seems unlikely that temporary government restrictions preventing a tenant from occupying the premises and/or operate from the premises would meet the test for frustration.
A tenant might pursue the landlord for breaches of the landlord covenants, in particular covenants for quiet enjoyment. If closure of the premises is a legal requirement or following the advice of a public health advice then it might present the landlord with a defence to a claim for breach of the landlord’s covenants.
Key factors for consideration would be the term of the lease and the length of the interruption to occupation of the premises.
It is a difficult time for businesses right now and it is important to get the right advice to guide your business through the pandemic.
Businesses hardest hit by government restrictions could be more likely to consider exercising any break clause within the lease to reduce costs.
This article is a general outline of the issues and is not a substitute for legal advice. If you are facing any of these issues, please feel free to contact Kenneth Jones Legal Limited for independent legal advice before taking any action.
Can a tenant refuse to pay rent if the Landlord closes the building? Most leases state rent is payable without deduction or set off, therefore a tenant should continue to pay rent in

has your financial advisor gone AWOL? This has become such a big problem for many people that they begin to think that all advisers are the same. I can assure you, that they are not. Those that find themselves in this position often do nothing for years, unless they make an active decision to do something about it.
It is perhaps no surprise to many of us, that not all financial advisers do a great job. So, there is nothing like a crisis to show who is doing a good job and who plainly isn’t. Even before COVID, clients of some advice firms have too often been ignored. Sadly, many of the large financial advice companies treat their customers as a number on their books and when they have really needed to step up, like now, they are nowhere in sight. Unfortunately, some advice companies are only interested in talking to you, if you have more money to invest. They can quickly lose interest in looking after you if no more money is forthcoming.
Why act now? Nothing stays the same forever as we have all discovered this year. What was once the right thing to do may no longer be right. If you think you are one of the abandoned clients, these are a few questions that you may want the answers to?
So, how can you tell if your adviser is not looking after you? Or if they want to have a proper working relationship with you for many years to come? What do you need to look for? •
If you have NOT heard from your adviser in the last 6 months
•
If they have NOT carried out a review in the last 12 months?
•
If you NOT received any kind of advice or guidance since the start of COVID?
•
If your adviser has NOT reviewed your investment risk with you in the last 12 months?
•
Your adviser does NOT return your calls and emails?
•
You want to know how your investments are performing
•
You should review your investment risk again
•
You should check that your portfolio is appropriately allocated to each sector
•
You may want to check that your future plans are not on track
•
You want to talk to adviser, so that you can express your concerns about your plans
If you are not hearing from your current adviser regularly, there is a fair chance that they are not looking after your best interests. A financial adviser that is focussed on client interests will give you an honest appraisal of your current situation and will be able to give you advice on how to best look after your affairs in these challenging times.
If your adviser is not doing any of the above, the chances are, you are just a number on their books.
Martin Dodd is an Independent Financial Adviser providing financial advice in the Wolverhampton area. Midlands Investment Agency is based in Tettenhall High Street. Contact him on 01902 742221.
Right now, we all have more than enough to be concerned with. At the very least your adviser should be maintaining regular contact with you. A good adviser can help allay any fears you may have and guide you through the current times. If they are not in regular contact, the chances are, they are not really that interested in your financial wellbeing.

toyota corolla design 2.0 hybrid touring sports slow traffic or in the city, if you have power in the battery you can run purely on that with zero emissions.
The Toyota brand is synonymous with quality, reliability and also loyalty, its quite few years since there was a Toyota Corolla Estate car but now the name is back and with it the reintroduction of the Corolla, Writes Bob Hickman.
A light on the dashboard EV, lights up to tell you when you are in electric power mode and by gentle use of the brakes and acceleration you can put power back in to the battery system. It really is worthwhile. The transition from battery to petrol engine was so smooth and the only discernible difference was the EV light on the dashboard goes off. It takes time to getting used to driving with the EV mode especially if you are in areas where there are pedestrians or cyclists because the vehicle is whisperingly quiet and you suddenly approach people who are not aware of your presence.
It has class leading interior space and huge amount of boot space, with the addition of dropping seats and you have van-like capacity. There is plenty of legroom and larger luggage compartment is an absolute bonus. The running costs are minimal, with CO emissions as low as 103g/km. The Corolla is available in 3 models, with two engine choices, the Design model on test, certainly looked wonderful in the Scarlett Flair maroon colour, a classic attractive vehicle.
The 2-litre engine equipped in the vehicle is quite a powerful engine on its own, it has a total output of 181bhp and including the electric assistance. The manufacturers claim a top speed of 112mph could be possible, and a 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. They suggest anything between 50 and 60 mpg and during my week and 500 miles in company with this vehicle, we achieved according to the computer 58.7 mpg which I think is pretty exceptional.
The interior has not been overlooked either, it is extremely driver orientated, the dashboard is a mix of black glass and buttons and minuscule in their numbers, what I was particularly enamoured with when the ignition was off there was nothing to shout about, turn the ignition on and the whole dashboard becomes alive with a plethora of information, colour and dials and multi media information due to hybrid technology.
There are 3 models to choose from and my particular Design vehicle had a lot of equipment included within the price, including wonderful 17 alloy wheels and the BI-LED headlights were a real bonus.
Toyota has for many years been telling anyone that would listen that self-charging hybrids were the future and I have to admit I tend to agree. This particular derivative is a full hybrid, not a mild companion, the difference is, a full hybrid is engineered to run on power from the petrol engine and electric motor, but they can also run on electric power only, if there is sufficient battery energy. The engine charges the battery and the battery provides power through an electric motor, so in
The on the road price was ÂŁ28,890 and this included ÂŁ795 for the wonderful Scarlet Flair fluorescent paint. The vehicle has a 5 year or 100,000 miles warranty, with 3-years paintwork, and 12 years anti-corrosion included, Toyota suggest servicing at 10,000 miles or annually.

seat mii electric The diminutive Seat Mii is a petite city car. Seat have however moved the goalposts dramatically and now if you want one of these little cars and you are a lover of petrol engines then you may be disappointed. The only option now for a Mii is the battery powered Mii electric, writes Bob Hickman.
The driving dynamics of the vehicle was of a pleasant little companion, it was linear in performance and with the huge amount of torque acceleration was extremely rapid. The vehicle has been weighed down by the amount of batteries that have been fastened to the floor adding almost 300 kgs to the weight of the vehicle.
External appearances don’t indicate that this is a pure electric car, there are some small electric badges which indicate that the vehicle is an electric, the rear filler cap has been retained because that is where you plug in the huge umbilical cord to recharge the vehicle.
The Mii considering its electronic status is reasonably conventional in other aspects, all the dials were clear and easily readable, there was no big display screen or touch screen, Seat have gone down the route of allowing the driver occupant to rely on smart phone technology.
You appreciate that it is an electric car when you hop in and start to drive it. There is no noise from an engine, there is no starter button, and you pull away in comparative serenity and silence. I think without doubt the little Mii electric is in its comfort zone within towns and inner cities, yes it will trundle down the A Road and the motorway but I don’t see this as the concept of the vehicle.
The Mii vehicle does have a reasonable amount of kit for its diminutive size, heated seats, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, are part of the standard equipment on this particular vehicle. Seat have just won the Value for Money Electric car in the 2020 in the What Car awards. If you are shopping for a city car, or a second car that is thoroughly green, then the Mii should be on that list.
The electric motor for propulsion produces 83ps which is quite a healthy amount of power, a 0 - 60mph in marginally over 12 seconds and a top speed of 81mph, with a driving range of about 160 miles between charges.
FACTS AT A GLANCE Model as Tested Seat Mii Electric Price £22,745 Engine Electric 61 kWh Power 83ps/bhp Max Speed 81mph, 0-60 12.3 seconds Battery 36.8 lithium-ion battery Range 160 miles Emissions Zero
Charging is an emotive issue, whilst in my company I utilised my home electric system and it took overnight to charge the vehicle using the 3 pin supply. If it was your vehicle you would probably have a 7 kW home charger or a wall box and this would bring the charge rate down to 4 hours. If you need to be out and about you could use the rapid charger on the public systems and this tops the battery up to 80% in 40 minutes.
