Whether you’re looking for inspiration to influence a bathroom or kitchen renovation project or simply seeking the latest colour trends to redecorate on a smaller scale… Just remember to create a space that reflects who you are and that you enjoy spending time in. I create design schemes for homes to be in keeping with the property with a unique personalised look that will be adored for many years. Interior design trends doesn’t mean you have to overhaul your existing home decor with each season or trend update, but keeping up to date with ever-evolving decor trends helps to revive and refresh your home interiors. These are my favourite trends for 2024; enjoy!

New Year…New Look

home PAINT COLOURS While many colours will always be timeless choices for our interiors, there are others that ebb and flow with the years. In 2024 grey paint colours will be replaced with warm beige neutrals, swapping pure white for taupe tones. Pink has been slowly creeping back into interiors especially a soft blush pink, and designers are favouring a whisper of soft delicate rose or more natural clay colour. Rich shades will continue to be popular choices and sumptuous brown paint colours will be seen in 2024. Browns can add warmth and add an elegant, calm feel to a room. This colour choice will give you great flexibility and will work effortlessly with other colours, including pinks, greens, blues and earthy neutrals.

WALLPAPER Wallpaper is definitely staying a design favourite in 2024, as we are craving rooms with personality. Wallpaper gives you the opportunity to add colour, pattern and texture, creating plenty of style and character to a space. Wallpaper is a great way to create an illusion of extended space, width and length by the power of repetition. By using the same hues or patterns across walls and spaces, you create a feeling of depth and endlessness. My favourite designs are botanical prints with lighter muted backgrounds. These prints look particularly charming as bedroom, bathroom and hallway wallpapers, and also in petite, narrow areas where their prints look a lot more charming and whimsical. Careful consideration is needed when choosing your wallpaper, making sure to tie in the rest of the room with complimentary paint colours, window treatments, trimmings and accessories, to create a complete room design scheme.

FABRICS Stripes are having a bit of a moment in interior design, adorning floor-to-ceiling curtains, accent chairs, cushions, and wallpaper. Stripes are a versatile tool in the design rulebook, providing some clever visual effects to widen, elongate or heighten the proportions of your room. Don’t be afraid of adding patterns either. I love to see paired back florals mixed with classic stripe combinations. Boucle is still very much a core trend, Boucle fabrics are versatile and soft to the touch with a fleecy, teddy bear-like appearance. The nubby, multi-use textile is generally made from wool. You’ll be seeing it everywhere in upholstered sofa furniture, statement armchairs, curtain treatments, cushions, throws and rugs. It’s not only a staple in fashion thanks to Coco Chanel’s world-famous jacket but in 2024 interior design too - boucle is back!

LIGHTING A phase you may see trending in 2024 interiors is the quiet luxury trend; timeless appeal, subtle beauty and high quality materials. Think warmth, calm and serenity all aspects that we seek to bring into our homes. Each style choice is carefully considered. Lighting is an especially key part in designing within our homes, and in the world of lighting, choose simple but elegant design that is opulent without being too showy or garish. Beautiful white and gold fixtures are great choices. To create that ultra-luxury look, I always use soft diffused lamps and fixtures with warm bulbs to make the space feel more inviting and give the furniture and accessories a warm glow.

KITCHEN - ‘THE HEART OF THE HOME’ In 2024, kitchens will feel like an additional living space within the house rather than a utilitarian place to prepare food in. Designers are spending time considering the space, choosing a unique mix of materials and textures. It becomes less focused on pure function and more about creating a space to enjoy with friends and family. Curved kitchen island worktops are great if you have the space. Add in comfortable seating and friends and family can sit around them together as they are so much more inviting than hard edges. Also as well as curved islands, in 2024 I will be designing kitchen cabinets that run all the way up to the top of the ceiling. Unless you have a specific intention for the space between the tops of your cabinets and the ceiling, I think it’s always worth running units up to the top, as when they stop shy of the ceiling, the space above just becomes a dust collector.

The spa-inspired bathroom was a bit of an interior design inevitability, influenced by the growing popularity of self-care spaces. In 2024, bathroom materials like stone, quartz and marble will replicate an indulgent spa experience, while fluffy robes, an abundance of candles and plants, and considered mood lighting will all contribute to a sense of serenity. I recently designed a bathroom space… and check out this transformation of a before and after photo.

ANTIQUE AESTHETIC The rustic, aged look is in for 2024! Think of imperfect pieces that are showing a few signs of wear and tear, vintage and antique furniture creating a home that is full of personality and charm. Deep-hued furniture, aged leather and rich textures will all add depth and warmth to a room, which is just what you want as the colder months ensue. The Antique Aesthetic trend can be easily incorporated into an existing scheme; simply layer in more rustic-feeling accessories, soft furnishings and colours.

winter wonders and warnings for pets Winter is upon us and wow is it cold! We really need to wrap up warm and make sure we take care of ourselves properly and ensure that we are getting the right vitamins. Our pets need extra care too, dogs get cold just like we do! If your dogs’ ears are cold especially around the edges this means that they are a bit chilly too, so get them warmed up.

it can cause burns/frostbite in their pads and may also make them poorly if they lick it off themselves. Rabbits and some other pets that live outside, will need to be brought in from the cold and put in a garage or conservatory, make sure that they have extra hay for bedding and cover part of their hutch and runs to help provide more insulation. Pets can burn more calories in the cold weather so you may need to increase what you feed them. Check their water regularly, especially water bottles as these may freeze particularly at the end, you may need to press the end in every could of hours to make sure it’s still working.

Why not make a bone broth for your cat or dog, you might enjoy some yourself too. After you’ve eaten your roast chicken, simply boil the chicken carcass up and simmer for a couple of hours, strain and then safely dispose of the bones so that animals can’t get to them. (Cooked chicken bones can be a dangerous choking hazard and can splinter). You are then left with the broth which is full of wonderful nutrients that may help give you and your fury ones a winter immune system boost. Offer your dog or cat a small amount on a separate saucer, you can serve it slightly warm, just tepid, so that it gives your dog and cat a nice warm glowing feeling and of course a nutritional boost.

Don’t forget to spare a thought for the wildlife and pop some fresh water and food out for them if you are able to. Remember, as well as wild bird seed and nuts from the pet shop, you could pop out some kitchen scraps such as cooked peas, cooked unsalted bacon and beef fat, apples and pears and cooked eggs. Ensure you chop the scraps up in to small pieces or crush them. keep each other safe and snuggly, remember the warnings and enjoy the winter wonders!!!

When out and about be mindful that Antifreeze is poisonous to dogs and cats, they can be tempted to lick it as it tastes so sweet but sadly it would only take a little taste to kill so please take care not to spill any yourself and keep an eye on your precious ones. Wash your dogs’ feet off after a walk, especially if the gritters have been out because rock salt is actually harmful to dogs,

Do not feed bone broth if your dog or cat has related allergies or have any other medical issues that need to be taken in to consideration. Always contact your veterinary surgeon if you are ever concerned about your pet or think that they may have ingested something toxic or something that has not agreed with them.

SERVES 4 EQUIPMENT Sharp knife Chopping board Parchment paper Roasting tray Parchment paper Temperature probe Mixing bowl Small oven proof dish with lid Kitchen foil Food processor with blade Small pan

INGREDIENTS: 600g of salmon fillet (I get mine from Goughs in Tettenhall) 4 - 8 prawns depending on size Fresh dill Fresh basil Flat leaf parsley Olive oil 250g tub of mascarpone 1 garlic bulb Maldon sea salt White or pink peppercorns crushed (black will do)

Prep time - 20 minutes Total cooking time approx. 16 minutes 200oC fan oven

METHOD - read through first then measure out all of your ingredients before starting • Turn the oven on to 200oC and put sheet of parchment paper on the roasting tray ready for the salmon. • Peel the garlic and place in a small oven proof dish and cover with oil. Cover with lid or foil and place in the oven until browned and soft. (approx. 25 minutes) • Cut the salmon into 4 squares and double check for any pin bones. Rub a little olive oil over the salmon and prawns then season both with sea salt and pepper and place in oven. Once the prawns have become pink and curled up a little check with the temperature probe that they have reached 75oC then remove from oven. Probe salmon and if reached 75oC also remove from oven. It should take about 14 minutes for the salmon to cook but it does depend on how thick it is. You can cook salmon medium to about 67oC but the fish needs to be really fresh. • Whilst the salmon is cooking mix the mascarpone and roasted garlic together in a mixing bowl. Chop a few herbs and mix in also. For the oil; blanch herb leaves in simmering water for a few seconds, pat dry and blitz in processor with olive oil. You can sieve if you like but I prefer the herb pieces left in. • This is great to eat cold but also good to eat straight out the oven. Top the salmon with the mascarpone and garnish with prawns and then drizzle with oil. To serve Serve with a French bean salad.

aiming high at old hall school Shropshire’s Old Hall School is aiming high as pupils take part in numerous national and global initiatives aimed at strengthening community ties and nurturing skills and ambitions beyond the classroom.

“We started this year with some significant changes and that included new additions to our teaching team. I am delighted to say that in the recruitment process we attracted a really high quality of candidates including award-winning teachers to join our already outstanding staff team.

The Wellington school, which was rated excellent in all areas in its most recent inspection, has enjoyed a packed term with literacy, digital technology and music among the departments where staff have encouraged children to stretch their talents.

“That has helped create an extra energy and excitement around the school and I am in the extremely fortunate position where staff are very keen to put forward proposals to go above and beyond in terms of covering the curriculum. They, of course, continue to do all they can to enable pupils to reach their full potential academically, but they are also looking at what else they might be able to do; a pupil trying something new is a huge achievement they can celebrate.

The English department was a hive of activity in early November as imagination and creativity was the focus for the BBC 500 words competition. The children were invited to take part and set the task of coming up with their own fictional story with teachers sending off more than 30 entries to the judges.

“I am very heartened too, that when we propose these projects to our children and our families we are met with what seems like limitless enthusiasm to have a go.”

Videos have been produced in Digital Technology as part of Design4SDGS. The idea is for youngsters to design campaigns around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Again dozens of entries were coordinated and sent off by the teaching team.

The school also announced plans for a new Innovation Lab this year and increased collaborations with Wrekin College, which shares the same campus, has seen more pupils get a chance to use state-of-the-art facilities including a dedicated Music School, Business School and Dance Studio.

The Old Hall Chapel Choir is also recording some of its favourite songs with an idea to take part in events outside school while the EcoCommittee travelled to Solihull for a talk by Dr Jane Goodall on her work with chimpanzees in Tanzania.

And more than 40 new extra-curricular clubs ran after school this term including Junior Duke, Squad training, language clubs, podcasting, sign language and film making.

Meanwhile sporting teams have taken part in a variety of tournaments across the Midlands with the TAG Rugby team unbeaten at a recent festival, and also being voted best team for fair play by the other competitors.

The school is also now preparing for its busy countdown to the Christmas holidays with charity initiatives, concerts, and the annual carol service and Christmas Market all on the calendar.

Head at Old Hall Mrs Anna Karacan said changes this year, which included the timetable, were allowing teachers more time to be innovative with initiatives to foster a real and genuine love of learning. That had translated into children clamouring to take part in a variety of extra opportunities.

To find out more about Old Hall book a place at the Old Hall Discovery Morning on Saturday 27th January 2024. This special Open Morning, especially for children in pre-school, current Reception and Key Stage 1, will see lots of fun, educational activities as well as the chance to look around the school and speak to staff. Book at www.wrekinoldhall.com or call 01952 265603.

She said the additional projects were also part of a structured approach aimed at spotting and developing a wide variety of talents and skills while giving pupils a real-world outlook.

san francisco – the enthralling city by the bay

Photographer Bogdan Zlatkov offers guests the highest level of comfort and service. Check-in procedures were swift and ultra efficient, my luggage was whisked away and I was escorted to the luxurious Nob Hill Suite, measuring 600sq ft. The soothing décor in muted colours with plush carpeting and drapes creates the ideal sanctuary in which to unwind. After sinking into the marble bathtub, full to the brim with complimentary Asprey bubbles I climbed into the king size bed, swathed with soft, white linens and succumbed to a deep slumber.

By Rebecca Underwood, Travel Journalist For those of us who love city life, San Francisco offers the hustle and bustle of a thriving and exciting metropolis and although it covers only 49 square miles there is much to explore as each of its eleven districts reflects a distinct culture and vibe and I was keen to take advantage of my short visit and explore the most popular areas.

Up with the larks, I headed for Parallel 37, the hotel’s casual restaurant, and indulged in a first class American breakfast. Sipping on my second cup of piping hot coffee I succumbed to the temptation and ordered two delicious waffles with Maple syrup as I planned my activities. After such a treat and with the urgent need to burn off those calories before they reached my waist line, I sprinted along to Union Square and hopped on a cable car bound for the Ferry Building. San Francisco operates the world’s largest manually controlled cable car network and the experience of a ride on one was high on my list. Holding on tight, with the cable car clanging its way along and climbing the steep hills I struck up a conversation with a family and their young children who

I was thrilled by my first encounter with the Golden Gate Bridge when I arrived at Baker Beach and sank down onto the soft sand to take in the spectacular view. Spanning the Golden Gate, the narrow strait connecting the mighty Pacific Ocean to San Francisco Bay, this iconic suspension bridge is recognised around the world and dates back to 1933, when construction began. With a length of 2.74 km, a width of 27.4 metres and soaring to a height of 227.4 metres it is a simply magnificent structure and demands the admiration of all those who get up close and personal.

were giggling with delight as the cable car reverberated and soon enough we were all bouncing up and down on the wooden seats with glee. Disembarking with the Pacific Ocean salty air in my nostrils I headed for Pier 33 to embark on the ferry bound for Alcatraz Island. A short crossing (one mile and a quarter) over the shark infested waters of San Francisco Bay and I arrived at a most desolate spot that was once a maximum security federal penitentiary incarcerating Al ‘Scarface’ Capone, Robert Stroud (Birdman of Alcatraz) and George ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly. The window less cell house with barred cells measuring five feet by nine feet (neighbouring inmates were able to observe fellow convict’s bathroom rituals) consist of cement walls, a steel framed bed with a thin mattress, a sink with a single cold water tap, a toilet without a seat and a small table and chair that folds down from the wall. It is an absolutely fascinating but chilling sight.

Back in the free world I took a leisurely stroll around the Ferry Building, which dates back to 1898 and today houses more than fifty small eateries, restaurants and food merchants. I was drawn to the very busy Hog Island Oyster Company, where I selected a table next to a floor to ceiling window. Whilst I admired the view of San Francisco Bay I devoured the delicious clam chowder and accompanied by a chilled glass of house white, it was a first rate dining experience.

Japanese Tea Garden and the San Francisco Botanical Garden. With 24 million visitors every year I was determined to find out more. The Conservatory of Flowers, which has been a historic landmark since 1879, houses an abundance of rare flowers and plants from around the world. There are five distinct galleries focusing on different ecosystems and I spent a long time wandering around the Aquatic Plants section where I was charmed by a series of pools imitating the flow of a river meandering through the tropics and I was enchanted by the spectacular Giant Water Lily and the Beach Spider Lily, which produces a beautiful fragrance.

Out on the wharf I strolled along to Pier 39 and the viewing platform to see some local residents. The California sea lions amuse the crowds with their playful antics as they bask in the sunshine, squabble over the best lounging spots and complain by making very loud barking sounds, which, at times, reach an almighty crescendo.

The de Young Museum, which is a very short walk away, exhibits a diverse collection of fine arts. I wandered around the Irving Penn exhibition, which runs until July ‘24. One of the 20th century’s most celebrated photographer’s, Penn, Vogue’s longest-standing contributor, transformed fashion photography in the post-war age. I was mesmerised by his photographs reflecting on 1967 and San Francisco’s Summer of Love. Wonderful images of hippies (also known as flower children), members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club and local rock bands including the Grateful Dead come to life.

Wandering around the wharf I spotted a cab and headed for the Golden Gate Park, which features a

Late in the day and back on Union Square I had just enough time for a spot of retail therapy at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Macy’s and as I returned to the Ritz Carlton, weighed down with shopping bags and a much lighter credit card I sank into the nearest comfy chair in The Lounge. I ordered a cocktail and raised my glass to make a toast to San Francisco, the exciting and enthralling city by the bay.

looking ahead to your wedding day, selecting your florals and making the plans that are right for you I HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT CHRISTMAS, AND I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY AND HEALTHY 2024. The new year brings new flower trends and designers creating new designs to inspire couples in the world of wedding flowers and styling. In my wedding flower orders, I have already noticed a very big increase in weddings throughout the year and not just for the summer months, as couples are selecting Spring, Autumn and Christmas. This is great for florists as in addition to us working with fabulous summer blooms, our selection and creativity then absorbs the natural and delicate spring flowers for weddings at the start of the year to the extreme of autumnal weddings where we use stronger flowers and textures such as berries, oak leaves, carthamus and pussy willow. I really feel lucky to have such an amazing job.

DATE FOR YOUR WEDDING DIARY 13th and 14th January 2024 “Colour Match Event” This is a highly popular event where couples can pop in and review a vast selection of wedding florals and foliage. WHAT IS MY BIRTH FLOWER? Every month has a birth flower with its very own special meaning. It is thought that birth month flowers originated in Roman times when birthday celebrations first began. This can be extremely useful when choosing the perfect flowers for a loved one: January - Carnation and Snowdrop The January birth flowers are carnation and snowdrop. Carnations are a true favourite. They come in a variety of different colours and make a lovely addition to any bouquet of flowers because of their long-lasting freshness. The carnation flower symbolises love, captivation and distinction. Snowdrops are appropriate either as an expression of celebration or as an expression of sympathy. The snowdrop flower symbolises purity, innocence and sympathy. February – Violet and Iris The February birth flowers are Violet and Iris. February is always associated with Valentine’s Day, and it always surprises people when they find out that roses are not officially the birth flower of the month. Violets symbolise delicate love, affection, modesty, faith, nobility, intuition and dignity. The blue variation symbolises love and faithfulness, the white violets represent purity and chastity and yellow violets represent high worth and goodness. Irises are large, colourful and beautiful flowers and symbolise wisdom, hope, trust and valour.

children’s eyecare and school vison Keren Garcha, an optometrist at Flint Optometry, has an interest in children’s vision and passed The Diploma in School Vision Practice with distinction. She is a former Wolverhampton Girls’ High School pupil and currently performs School Vision assessments for those with reading problems and dyslexia.

What is involved in a School Vision Assessment?

What is School Vision? Good eyesight is crucial in ensuring a child reaches their full potential both academically and socially. The School Vision speciality clinic is a means of improving a child’s performance at school. The correct eyewear can have an enormous impact on a child’s ability and confidence in the classroom. A child’s ability to read to their full potential at school is a vital skill. Unfortunately, many children do not realise their full potential and can suffer with problems at school because of challenges with the vision skills required to read. School Vision addresses these challenges. Specifically, it can improve visual performance when reading by studying how the two eyes work together.

Full eye examination

Assessing any issues/difficulties at school

Muscle balance – how the eyes work together

The dominant eye – for better reading skills

Reading clarity and speed

Eye alignment whilst reading

Visual stress assessment - colour preference using coloured overlays/colorimetry

A school vision assessment can be quite daunting for a child. However, Keren is wonderful at building rapport and trust with the children. Talking directly to the child and explaining each test throughout the assessment helps the child feel involved with their eyecare. The assessment can usually take about an hour and some children’s concentration can be challenged. If necessary, a second appointment will be booked to get the best results to benefit the child. A report will be issued after the School Vision assessment for the parents and school explaining the results and recommendation.

What are the signs my child could benefit from a School Vision Assessment? Problems often appear as fatigue, headaches, frustration, lack of attentiveness or poor behaviour in class, and in extreme cases this can affect other areas of development. By correcting these problems, children can read faster, more accurately and with greater confidence. Therefore, leading to improved concentration and school performance.

If you feel your child would benefit from a School Vision Assessment, please call the practice on 01902 422096 to book an appointment.

Dyslexics can have co-occurring visual problems, including binocular instability and visual stress. The School Vision assessment and management may alleviate visual problems that can occasionally occur with dyslexia.

planning for the future: a comprehensive guide to wills, trusts, estates, and lasting power of attorney Planning for the future is an essential aspect of responsible and proactive living. It involves not only envisioning our dreams and aspirations but also ensuring that our assets are managed, our loved ones are cared for, and our wishes are respected. In this guide, we will explore four crucial components of future planning: Wills, Trusts, Estates, and Lasting Power of Attorney.

wishes. It includes the execution of a will, establishment of trusts, and coordination of financial matters. Proper estate planning not only ensures that your loved ones receive what you intended for them but also helps minimize potential tax liabilities and administrative hassles during the probate process.

1. Wills: A Blueprint for Distribution

4. Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA): Empowering Your Loved Ones

A will is a legal document that outlines an individual’s wishes regarding the distribution of their assets after death. It is a powerful tool for ensuring that your possessions, properties, and financial accounts are distributed according to your preferences. In a will, you can designate beneficiaries, specify the distribution of assets, name guardians for minor children, and even express your funeral and burial preferences. Creating a will is a responsible and considerate way to provide clarity and avoid potential conflicts among surviving family members.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that grants someone the authority to make decisions on your behalf in case you become unable to do so due to mental or physical incapacity. There are two types of LPAs: one covering health and welfare decisions and the other covering property and financial affairs. By appointing a trusted individual as your attorney, you ensure that your wishes regarding medical treatment, living arrangements, and financial matters are upheld, even if you are unable to communicate or make decisions.

2. Trusts: Managing Assets for the Long Term

Conclusion: Embracing the Future with Confidence

A trust is a legal arrangement where a trustee holds and manages assets on behalf of one or more beneficiaries. Trusts can be established during one’s lifetime (living trusts) or through a will (testamentary trusts). They are particularly useful for individuals seeking to control the distribution of assets over time, provide for minor children, or minimize estate taxes. Trusts offer flexibility, privacy, and the ability to bypass probate, streamlining the process of asset transfer.

Planning for the future involves more than just accumulating wealth; it requires thoughtful consideration of how that wealth will be managed, preserved, and distributed. Wills, trusts, estate planning, and Lasting Power of Attorney are integral components of this process, offering individuals the opportunity to take control of their financial legacy and provide for their loved ones in a responsible and compassionate manner. By engaging in comprehensive future planning, individuals can embrace the future with confidence, knowing that their wishes will be respected, and their loved ones will be cared for.

3. Estates: Navigating the Aftermath An estate encompasses all the property, assets, debts, and liabilities left by an individual after their death. Estate planning involves organizing, managing, and distributing these assets in accordance with the deceased person’s

my top 6 thought-provoking questions to ask yourself when planning retirement in 2024 yourself, “Have I saved enough to maintain my desired lifestyle?” It’s important to calculate your expected retirement income, including state pensions, private pensions, and any additional sources of income. The year 2024 could be a pivotal moment for your retirement plans, and asking the right questions can help ensure a comfortable and fulfilling retirement in the UK. Let’s delve into six thought-provoking questions that can guide you on this exciting journey. 1. How Will You Define Retirement?

3. How Will You Manage Healthcare Costs?

Retirement isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept. It’s a personal journey that should align with your dreams and aspirations. Ask yourself, “What does retirement mean to me?” Will it involve complete relaxation, starting a new business, pursuing hobbies, or engaging in volunteer work? Defining your retirement vision is crucial because it will shape your financial planning, lifestyle choices, and even your mental and emotional well-being. Retirement is no longer what it used to be. The days of an inactive retirement are now in the past. Most of us now want an active and fulfilling retirement.

Healthcare expenses tend to increase with age, making it a vital consideration for your retirement plan. In the UK, you’ll have access to the National Health Service (NHS), but you may still need to cover some medical costs, including long-term care if necessary. Consider, “Do I have a plan for healthcare expenses in retirement?” Investigate options like private health insurance and long-term care insurance to ensure you’re adequately protected. We are seeing an increasing use of private health care in the UK as the NHS struggles to cope with the demand.

Each option comes with its own pros and cons, so it’s essential to weigh them carefully and make a decision that suits your needs and preferences. 5. How Will You Spend Your Time? Retirement isn’t just about finances; it’s also about how you want to spend your time. Consider, “What activities and hobbies will bring fulfilment and joy to my retirement?” Whether it’s traveling, gardening, learning a new skill, or dedicating time to a charitable cause, having a plan for your daily activities and interests can enhance your overall retirement experience. first stop wolverhampton’s seasonal fashion statement! As the frost arrives and the chillier winds start to blow, we can spend a long time thinking about what seasonal fashion accessories to wear this Winter, never mind what tyres to wrap our car in.

Not only does First Stop Wolverhampton stock the very best performing all-season products, but the team is also offering free tyre checks to all motorists as the temperatures begin to cool, to ensure all customers are as safe as possible as the nights begin to draw in.

If First Stop Wolverhampton said that an all-season tyre was the most important purchase anyone could make right now then some people might raise an eyebrow, but the difference between these products and a typical summer tyre really are like night and day.

First Stop Wolverhampton owner Simon Bennett said: “We feel that a balance can be struck where families can drive safely in all road conditions in the UK without breaking the bank, and all-season tyres strikes that perfect balance for many motorists.”

An all-season tyre offers a balance of capabilities, providing great performance in wet and dry conditions, particularly when temperatures drop below 7 degrees. They have tread depths and rubber compounds that are engineered to provide longer tread life than summer tyres and are capable of providing superior grip in the colder months.

First Stop Wolverhampton, situated in Chapel Ash, offers the full range of automotive services including MOTs, servicing, batteries, wheel balancing, brakes and all other mechanical repairs. Its wheel alignment equipment also makes it one of the most technologically advanced garages in the city. And it goes without saying that its range of tyres is amongst the most comprehensive in Wolverhampton, with a wide range of products readily available to suit the driving styles and budgets of all motorists.

In other words, they are a fashionable choice for this time of year and a product that First Stop Wolverhampton recommends highly. What’s more, there is no need to change back to a summer tyre in the months ahead, as an all-season tyre does exactly what it says, performing all year round.

mg hs trophy There have been many critics of the MG brand, especially of a certain age, who believe MG should only be those built in the 50’s, 60’ and 70’, for MGB, but then you have to consider MG Maestros, MG Metros they were badged MG engineering and really the new range of MG vehicles built in China really are outstanding and superb value for money, one of the reasons they are now one of the best-selling range of vehicles in the UK, writes Bob Hickman. The MG HS steps in to the mid-size SUV range of vehicles. One big feature it has going for it is the pricing structure. They range from £23,495 to £27,495 for the top specification Trophy, which was my companion recently. All the HS range share a common drive train engine, there are no clever electronics or hybrid technology involved here, it is pure and simple a petrol engine vehicle.

find an address when it is dark and miserable. The one feature that I really warmed to was the lovely voice that told you if you were exceeding the speed limit, venture 3 miles over either 30, 40, 50, and a little voice informed the speed limit is 30, 40, or 50, a wonderful little feature.

The 1490cc engine is turbo charged, and produces a healthy 162ps and it drives through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Performance figures are quoted at 0-60 in 9.6 seconds and a top speed where legal of 118mph.The fuel figures given are 36.6mpg on a combined total and this proved to be reasonably accurate as the computer suggested that I had achieved 38mpg during my test of the vehicle. Sadly, the emissions are on the high side at 174 g/km.

Rear passengers cannot quibble about the amount of space although, legroom is just a little disappointing but certainly headroom and shoulder room are more than adequate.

The interior of the Trophy really was a pleasant environment to be cocooned within, initially I thought the maroon and black trim were leather but it turned out it actually faux leather, it is best described as a leather style upholstery. The Sport front sets are adequately comfortable and have an electronic adjustment system built in to them. Both front seats are heated and in addition there is an absolute plethora of other features included as standard on the vehicle.

The driving dynamics of this vehicle is one that has excellent visibility, a reversing camera in addition to parking sensors and whilst the vehicle itself was nothing exciting but it did everything a discerning owner would want. Motorway speeds were comfortable and the vehicle lacked noise, very little road or wind noise coming back from the vehicle.

In the middle of the dashboard is a 10” infotainment system, and this is one of the best user-friendly systems I have encountered in many years. It has all the various options of settings and driver controls and features and in addition to its Satellite Navigation system, if you are an Android or Apple person you have the facility to plug your phone in. The Satellite Navigation, is a work of art, I think it is probably the best I have encountered. On a housing estate it tells you the name of road you are on, and it also indicates the house numbers either side of the road, a wonderful feature if you are visiting or trying to

There can be little doubt that the market place is awash with SUV’s and the choice is virtually endless, however if you are on a budget and you really want a vehicle that is equipped to the absolute limit, has a wonderful warranty of 7-years or 80,000 miles then you really do need to pop in to the MG dealership and forget all these pre-conceived idea of it can’t be an MG unless it has been made locally in Abingdon or at Longbridge and I think you will be extremely surprised.

As a brand, the Audi badge on a car has always been an aspirational ownership feature. The SUV’s have choices from the entry level Q2 up to the mighty Q8 and recently I tested the Q3, writes Bob Hickman. This SUV, has a wonderful interior, perfect for a family, with the amount of interior space allied to the high driving position with multi-adjustments for all passengers within the vehicle. The driver can get comfortable and enjoy driving a vehicle you know will give hours and hours and probably years of delightful ownership. My particular derivative was the plug-in hybrid, TFSi version. The reasonably powerful 2-litre engine meant that you were never worried about running out of juice or power and searching for charging points. The benefit is that you can charge it at home and get possibly up to 31 miles to drive on pure electric. I must admit it worked quite well; I have been a critic of the infrastructure in respect of EV vehicles but with a hybrid it works. There is no noise when you are running on electric mode, no emissions to worry about and you never really know when it changing from electric to petrol power, apart from looking at the dashboard, plugging in to the mains didn’t take an eternity because there are not huge batteries like a pure EV.

I loved the factor that the driver has eyeline view directly in front of him in the binnacle, which can be changed by utilising controls on the steering wheel so you have the Satellite Navigation directly Infront of you or the miles to gallon or the range that you have left to drive in the

The interior of the Q3 was certainly accommodating, without doubt tall adults can feel comfortable in the rear of the Q3 and with the benefit of the seats being adjustable have ample head, shoulder and leg room. It would be possible to get 3 adults in the back but ideally 2 at the front or 2 at the back or 3 children in the rear is ideal.

vehicle. Audi claim some incredible figures for the 45 TFSi plug-in hybrid, In the real world I achieved about 50mpg which for the type and size of the vehicle is very acceptable Audi suggest that the vehicle can do the 0-60 gallop in

The boot on the Q3 is huge, moving the seats can give a massive 600 litres capacity, but even without that over 500 litres is more than enough to take and accommodate all the luggage for a family holiday, golf clubs or pushchairs or whatever you need to carry.

7.3 seconds and it is electronically limited to 140 mph, the CO emissions are a very low 44 g/km. Prices vary considerably, my Q3 as tested, had an on the road price of £44,070, however you have to add

The driving perspective was of a wonderful companion, it was home in the town, country roads and especially on the motorway where it just purred along without any problems whatsoever.

in to that delivery costs, first registration fee, the comfort and sound pack and also the leather trim, all boosted the price to £46,590. I particularly loved the colour, turbo blue, and if I

The quality of the interior and the trim is first class. The 10.1-inch touch screen and infotainment system worked very well. It was easy to understand, responded properly and you could use the voice commands for the Sat nav. There is the option to connect your phone with Apple Car Play or Android Auto.

was in the market place to buy another Audi, as I have previously owned two, this would have been my first choice, sadly, however they have decided to discontinue this wonderful vivid colour.
