To create a cosy atmosphere with appropriate lighting, there are a few key components you need to consider. These include: Get a Feel for Function Depending on how you plan to use the room, you may want different types of lighting. For example, in the kitchen you may want additional task lighting to brighten up areas like worktops for preparing food, to ensure you can focus better.

Less is Not Always More A great way to create a comfortable and inviting setting is to layer your lighting with a minimum of three or four light sources per room. Start with your main lighting fixture, known as ambient lighting, and find yourself a big, beautiful chandelier or pendant that makes its presence known. Then add in some task lighting that will be useful in illuminating focussed tasks like reading or working at a desk. To add the finishing touches to the room, do not forget about accent lighting. This could be anything from wall lights to track lamps and can draw attention to certain features in a room.
A Dimmer is a Winner Installing a dimmer switch on your focal lighting a crucial if you want to have the flexibility to adjust the brightness on your lighting depending on your mood or the time of day. Some people find having bright lights on in the evening unsettling, so it is ideal to be able to dim the lights to create a more relaxed and softer ambience when you are winding down for the night.
Go Easy on the Ceiling Lights To create a warm, homily feeling, a series of elegant pendants over a kitchen island or an elegant chandelier placed over a dining table are perfect choices. The same applies for living rooms or bedrooms, with the addition of some side lamps to complete the mood. Downlights or spotlights are bright and glaring, so are best kept just for the kitchen or bathroom where task lighting is needed, otherwise you risk creating an ambience that is more suited to work than home.
Concentrate on Corners Similar to layering, to add interest and allure, you want to have focussed corners of the room with different lighting. This could be lamps on side tables, sideboards, and shelves, making the room more exciting and multidimensional. Sidelights can also be used to illuminate art pieces and create a trendy display.

LED is the Way Forward Lasting 20 times longer than incandescent bulbs and around 8 times longer than halogen, most standard LED lights boast a 10-15 year lifespan. Not only this but they are more environmentally friendly, consuming up to 85% less energy and producing less heat, which also results in reduced electricity bills. LEDs come on instantly with no frustrating flickering and are now available in a wide range of attractive tones and hues.
Add a Classic Touch with a Candle Some may underestimate the power of candlelight to encourage a warm and inviting feel in a room, especially when it’s cold and dark outside. To really pull out all the stops you can invest in some scented candles in your favourite aromas to make your interior something truly special.

Gina Sconce Gina plays with the idea of mounting a hand-held lantern on the wall, its hoop fitting snugly in the top mount and its timeless sphere diffuser clicking into place on the other mount. The dark fabric-wrapped cord plugs into a wall outlet, making Gina an easy way to add instant chic to a temporary space.
Chloe Sconce The Chloe sconce from Mitzi looks stunning in any interior, the marble effect base fitted with adds a touch of glamour whilst the modern bulb achieves a contemporary feel.
Astrid Chandelier Paired best with modern furnishings in neutral tones, the playful Astrid chandelier from Mitzi by Hudson Valley Lighting brand sets the mood for a balanced and soothing room with its aged brass and black finish. The aged brass perfectly complements the black by adding a pop of colour that is classy and stylish, while still helping to capture a warm, autumnal feel in a room.
Pilsen Chandelier With such striking features, Pilsen, from Troy Lighting, adds a stunning focal point to any room. Cradling crackling bulbs in a candelabra-shaped based, Pilsen’s perforated steel plates finished in brass naturally contrast against a rich, dark bronze. Further perforations and tactile details define Pilsen’s elegant shape while smooth curves and hard edges blend seamlessly to accentuate the piece’s distinguishable style. Finished in a gorgeous carbide black with satin nickel accents.
Odyssey Collection This beautiful collection by Troy Lighting features chrome lantern-style glass lamps that add a subtle, calming glow to any room, perfect for unwinding on darker Autumnal nights. Featuring contemporary defined lines that is reminiscent of HVLG’s signature style, with a sophisticated carbide black and polished nickel finish. The Odyssey Collection has a style to suit any space in the house; the range includes a chandelier, pendant and wall sconce.

auction prices continue to soar – proving now’s the time to sell! really has never been a better time to sell at auction. Even ‘traditional’ ceramics which, until recently, held limited appeal, as flying – for example, a tray of Royal Albert Floral Crown teaware, which a few months ago would have struggled to achieve £100, saw the hammer fall at £950; whilst Lot 125 – a tray of mixed Wedgwood Jasperware – achieved £320.
Against a backdrop of global financial uncertainty, bidders are spending big at auction. But while one may expect a peak in investors stockpiling gold and quality jewellery, West Midlands auction house Cuttlestones has noticed an uplift in prices across the board – with some surprises along the way. Having adjusted its business model during lockdown to 100% online auctions to safeguard both staff and customers at its sale rooms in Penkridge and Wolverhampton, the firm has reaped the benefits and attracted a new audience of bidders – and seen an uplift in prices along the way.
For details of how to sell at auction through Cuttlestones visit www.cuttlestones.co.uk
‘Traditional’ big-sellers – such as collectible coins, watches, fine jewellery and gold continue to perform well, with sellers able to rest assured that lots will sell based on their intrinsic value rather than the dreaded ‘scrap price’. However, the uplift has also been noticed in lots that have been ‘off-trend’ until recently, as MD and Head Auctioneer, Ben Gamble, explain: “We’ve got a global audience of engaged bidders who are willing to part with their cash, so there

hiring a cleaner during covid-19 the cleaner(s) in your home.
We know that a clean house is more important than ever now, and having a cleaner in your home may raise questions or, concerns during these uncertain times. But as long as you are employing a professional company with all the correct procedures in place it should not be a cause for anxiety.
3. What are your Covid-19 procedures? At Bright and Beautiful we have very strict Covid procedures that all our housekeepers must follow, such as regular handwashing, disinfecting kit, social distancing and disinfecting all high touch areas in your home as we leave. You can see more here: brightandbeautifulhome.com/covid19-statement
Professional domestic housekeeping company Bright and Beautiful Wolverhampton share the top three things you should be asking your cleaning company during Covid-19:
Whether you want to ensure your house is kept safe and clean during these times or you need help keeping your home clean with all the family around, Bright and Beautiful can tailor a plan to suit you. A one off deep clean to get your home sparkling again, or a regular service could help your home feel like a sanctuary once again, especially with the added pressure of working from home.
1. Are the staff employed or agency workers? Agency workers should not be ‘trained’ as this can be ‘disguised employment’, meaning each cleaner is self-employed and the responsibility falls with them and not the company. At Bright and Beautiful all our staff are fully employed and have undergone extensive Covid-19 training. 2. Is the company insured? You should ask about Public Liability insurance (which covers you and your home) and Employee liability insurance (which covers the staff coming into your home). Without these insurances you may be liable for

in conversation with su gallagher, general manager of sunrise of tettenhall Care homes provide the perfect environment for many older people to enjoy their later years. At Sunrise Senior Living UK, residents are provided with plenty of opportunities to foster new relationships, learn new skills and stay healthy. To learn more about the people who provide this outstanding level of care, we spoke to Su Gallagher, the new General Manager at Sunrise of Tettenhall.
Finally, Su told us about her future aspirations for the home. “To put it simply, I want Sunrise of Tettenhall to continue to be forward thinking and responsive to the ever-changing nature of healthcare. I want our care home to provide a safe and familial environment and always give the best to those who seek care from us.
First, we asked Su what attracted her to join Sunrise Senior Living UK.
“Every Resident is the most important person in someone else’s life and for them to trust us is paramount. I want us to be the best we can be.”
“When I looked into Sunrise Senior Living UK, I was amazed that such a grand and beautiful environment was in fact a care home. What struck me was that this beautiful environment has an ethos to provide care in the way I always believed we should: nurturing the human spirit, promoting independence, preserving dignity and the freedom of choice, with the involvement of family being encouraged.”
For more information about Sunrise of Tettenhall, please visit: www.sunrisetettenhall.co.uk or call 01902 906522.
We then asked Su to tell us about her experiences as a General Manager during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The company have been amazing in enabling us to ensure that every resident and team member could be kept safe. It has been the strangest and yet the most challenging time of my career. The work we have put in to ensure that we have a dedicated and passionate team paid us back in dividends as our team shone throughout this whole experience, allowing us to keep Covid-19 at bay.”

Different times have done all that we humanly can to bridge this gap. Our online learning programme has been more comprehensive and successful that I could have possibly hoped when the school closures were first announced. Yet Tettenhall is a community. A place where people, most especially children, are known as individuals, with talents varied and wide. As September approaches, our ambitions are undiminished, perhaps strengthened by the challenges that we have faced as a team.
Normality is something I think we are all craving at the moment. To those who have been personally affected by this global pandemic, I and all of us at Tettenhall College, send our warmest thoughts, sympathies and best wishes. Although Tettenhall College has remained open throughout the restrictions, we have now successfully welcomed back children in our nursery, reception, year one and year six classes. To see young learners eagerly and excitedly return to the welcoming care of their class teachers has been truly heartening and gives huge encouragement that we are on the steady approach back to a full school.
We will take great learnings from how our experience of technology based teaching can support us in the future. Yet when our family of teachers and students are all reunited, I have great faith that the personal, personalised and personable approach that defines our school will have even more resonance than before. We will take time to ensure that our young learners can readjust to their classrooms and discuss all that they have experienced.
Whilst day to day focus is centred around delivering the very highest levels of tailored learning via online methods, plus direct contact between tutors and students, we are eagerly planning for the 2020-21 academic year with innovation and development at its heart. The transition process for our new entrants is well underway and scholarships for our Sixth Form are now being finalised. Our admissions team happily remain very busy and it is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to introduce Tettenhall College to new enquirers.
2020-21 will see Tettenhall College at its finest. Our stunning theatre will be full of music, drama and dance, our sports pitches will see competition and personal endeavour, our classrooms will see our teachers work with our students to achieve their very best results. This will all happen as we work together as a community. Please know that our community is an open and welcoming one. We warmly invite you to come and visit and perhaps consider joining this very special family.
So what can we take from the last few, historic months? Fundamentally, every day that a child is not at school is a challenge for us as educators, for their parents and most especially for them. We

virtual welcome “This has been a very different time for us all and we have had to adapt our usual routine and schedule for helping those children to get to know us and the school better before that first day.
Favourite nursery rhymes have helped a Shropshire school to create a child-friendly virtual welcome for children who missed out on taster days as they prepared to start school this September because of Covid-19.
“I am very proud of the staff who have worked hard to come up with innovative ways and child-friendly resources in which to do that. The video we created is something parents can watch with their children as many times as they like to help them get to know their new school, teachers and support staff here at the school. They can even join in with the nursery rhymes and feel a sense of connection.
As schools across the country were forced to close and restrictions put in place thousands of children missed out on landmark events in their education. Now Old Hall School in Wellington has come up with a new novel way to introduce themselves to the new additions starting school to help them feel more confident about this new chapter.
“We are very much planning for and looking forward to the new term in September. While we will be keeping a close eye on any new advice and restrictions I have always believed that happy confident children arrive at school ready to learn and adapt and have the best chance of reaching their potential.
Government restrictions and school closures meant their usual routine of taster days and inviting families along to numerous events at the school was not possible. Early years staff however were determined the new intake should be given an accessible and fun way of getting to know them and the school.
“We will do all in our power and work closely with our families to ensure the children here at Old Hall feel positive about their school and enjoy being part of the strong sense of community we have built here.”
So they videoed a tour of the building and facilities by Head of Early Years Alison Hartland-Griffiths together with an introduction to key staff who all read a favourite nursery rhyme to the children.
Old Hall School and Wrekin College, independent schools which are part of the same Trust, share a campus in Wellington, offering education from the age of four to 18 years old.
Parents have also been able to speak directly to staff and arrange video calls with teachers.
Both schools will be welcoming families on Saturday, November 14th, for a joint Open Day.
“One of the most significant days in a child’s educational journey is that first day of school and it is important to get it right,” said headteacher at Old Hall Martin Stott.

an exceptional student experience everyone works together in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Bridgnorth Endowed School is inviting prospective pupils and parents to explore all that it has to offer at a virtual open event that’s set to be launched on Monday 28th September.
Bridgnorth Endowed is an extraordinary school that combines its solid 500-year history with superb modern facilities and a progressive approach to education.
Founded in 1503, this unique school, previously the town’s grammar, has a rich and extremely long history in educating people from across the region.
The teaching programme focuses on engaging students by challenging their thinking and providing robust support to help them master the things that matter. This enables them to get more out of their studies and develop a much deeper understanding.
Today, it is a vibrant co-educational secondary school where students enjoy first-class facilities, high quality teaching and an extensive choice of extra-curricular activities.
Committed to the success of each of its students, the school teaches them to cultivate, not only academic skills, but also the character traits they will need in adult life – in particular, independence, ambition and confidence.
The school benefits from a beautiful 30-acre campus, its own on-site leisure centre, and the convenience of a town centre location in the heart of rural Bridgnorth. Its mission is simple: To nurture high standards of academic achievement for all, underpinned by core values of trust, fairness and hard work.
Headteacher, Mr Worth, comments: “We strongly believe in providing an excellent all-round education for 11 to 16-year-olds, together with outstanding, impartial careers guidance, to fully prepare them for the best universities and apprenticeship schemes.”
The aim is to deliver an education that inspires pupils to achieve beyond what they believe is possible, through a broad range of subjects and extra-curricular opportunities within a positive setting.
“Most importantly, we aim to encourage students to be successful and happy in a competitive world, and to build an exciting future for themselves.”
Smaller than the average sized secondary school, Bridgnorth Endowed fosters a real sense of community that enables students, parents and staff to really get to know each other.
For further information, please visit www. bridgnorthendowed.co.uk or call 01746 762103. Individual tours will be available to book following the launch of the virtual open event on Monday 28th September.

RECIPES BY MIKE WHITEHURST
sour dough crumpet with stilton butter, honey and walnuts SOUR DOUGH STARTER •
Put 100g of mineral water and 100g of good quality bread flour into a large container such as an empty ice cream tub or a large 1.5ltr kilner jar and give it a good stir.
•
Cover and leave for 24hrs on the side in the kitchen.
•
Everyday for the next 5 days add 100ml of mineral water and 100g of bread four stirring each time. After 5 days you should notice lots of bubbles and a pungent smell.
•
Each time you use your starter you need to refresh it by pouring some out and refilling it with equal water and flour.
tip* don’t pour your starter down the sink as many recipes tell you to, simply heat up a frying pan, add a large egg and 50g of flour to 50g of the starter, mix well and fry like pancakes.

COOKING UTENSILS:
INGREDIENTS:
6 x crumpet rings 1 x pastry brush 1 x nut cracker 1 x non stick frying pan 1 x baking tray 1 kitchen aid with balloon whisk and K beater 1 x cooks knife and chopping board (solid wood is good) 1 x measuring spoons set 1 x mixing bowl
300g Sour dough starter Bicarbonate soda Sea salt 600ml Double cream Honey 450g of Stilton 6 whole Walnuts in shell 1 bunch of watercress 1 green apple 1 bunch of spring onion tops only 1 bottle of homemade French dressing (email mike@takefood.co.uk for recipe)
METHOD - read through first then measure out all of your ingredients before starting •
To make the crumpet batter pour in 300g of the sour dough starter into the mixing bowl and whisk in 1/4 tsp of baking powder, 1/2 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of honey.
•
Heat the pan on a medium heat, crack the shells to remove the nuts and toast them for a few minutes on medium heat then set aside for later.
•
Brush the crumpet rings with oil and place in the hot pan and drizzle a little oil inside the ring.
•
Pour the batter half the way up the side of the ring and cook on medium heat until the top looks a bit dull but holes have started appearing.
•
Remove from the heat and set aside while you finish the batch off. You can reheat and toast the tops under the grill when ready to eat.
•
To make the stilton butter whisk the cream with the balloon whisk attachment until it becomes thick and then swap the whisk for the K beater and continue beating the cream on low speed so when the liquid separates from the solids it doesn’t spray the kitchen walls.
•
Take the solid lump out of the bowl and squeeze it between your hands over the bowl to catch the excess liquid - keep the liquid in the fridge until ready to use.
•
Put the butter back in the bowl with the stilton and mix on slow speed until well combined. You wont need all of the stilton butter for this recipe so roll up in parchment paper and store in the fridge for 1 week or freeze for 3 months.
•
When ready to eat brush the top of the crumpets with the buttermilk leftover from churning the butter and toast the crumpets under the grill.
•
Spread crumpets generously with the stilton butter, crush the walnuts over the top and drizzle with honey.
•
Serve with the watercress, thinly sliced onion tops and green apple slices tossed with French dressing.

how to lose weight & keep it off fit in with your lifestyle. These changes should be things that you can do at home with easily accessible equipment and food items. No food should be off limits, instead the emphasis should be on portion control, and rebalancing your intake of different food groups. It’s also essential to find strategies for any unhealthy behaviours such as meal skipping, or mindless eating of sweet or high fat foods. Physical activity is also an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Visit my website for more information about my weight loss programme and how to lose weight www.restoremynutrition.co.uk/weight-loss
If like many people you gained weight during lockdown and found it difficult to lose, you’re not alone. If you’re wondering how to go about losing this weight, I’ll give you a few pointers. The first and most important step is to find your motivations for wanting to lose weight! To identify your motivations, start by exploring the reasons that you want to lose weight: it may be to wear the clothes that you want, to feel more body confident, to improve your health and mobility, or another reason. These reasons will act as your motivational driving force and are the key to success. You should imagine yourself having these things, plan the things you’ll do with improved mobility; look for the clothes you want online; do these things regularly to stay motivated.
This article was written by Maxine Palmer BSC, RD who is a registered Dietitian & Nutritionist, specialising in weight loss, low FODMAP diets for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and workplace health. www.restoremynutrition.co.uk
So now that you’ve identified your motivations for weight loss, how should you go about losing the weight? You may feel the need to try the latest diet, however diets don’t work! Diets don’t represent most people’s lifestyles and can involve changes which are very different to what you’re used to. This makes them difficult to stick to long term. Do you remember the grapefruit diet or the cabbage soup diet? Can you imagine only eating cabbage soup for life? Not only do diets like these lead to yo-yo dieting and regaining the weight you worked hard to lose, but they are deficient in many nutrients. The key to lasting weight loss is small realistic changes, which reflect your food preferences and

nick & royston's diary National Hair Sunday
During the months of lockdown, Nick and Royston reflected on the hard work and dedication of the frontline NHS workers and how they could thank them. With over a million NHS workers, they needed to do something big and National Hair Sunday was born. They used all their contacts in the media, the hairdressing industry and on social media asking ALL hairdressers nationally to commit to a day of free hairdressing. The response was massive from individual salons to national companies, like Toni & Guy, Rush and Francesco Group all signing up. All the team gave up their day off and worked from 8.00am - 7.00pm to offer as many appointments as possible. It was a great day and a great opportunity to say thank you.
Yachting to the Isle of Wight
With many great friends in the hairdressing industry Guy Kremer is one of their dearest. With the circumstances over the past few months they needed no excuse to have a catch up. With Guy`s salon based in Winchester he suggested joining friends and sailing on his yacht around the Isle of Wight. They set off from Lymington, with a delicious lunch including lobster and Champagne. They then set sail to the Needles and then around the island, before returning later in the afternoon. A beautiful day, with stunning scenery, great fun and loads of laughter. Cannot wait to do it again.

Rebecca Ferguson’s‘ Birthday Party
After many months away, the guys were back in Alderley Edge filming for the next series of The Real Housewives. After a busy day filming, they enjoyed dinner at Piccolino`s and then joined friends to celebrate The X Factor Star Rebecca Ferguson`s Birthday. The party was held at the Parea in Alderley Edge, where Cheshire`s royalty was out in force. The owners of Fashion House Lavish Alice, Lee & Matthew joined Dawn Ward and many friends to celebrate Rebecca`s special day. It was a great opportunity to catch up, party with old friends and make some new ones.
London after lockdown
To celebrate life after lockdown, Nick and Royston joined friends fashion designer Julian MacDonald, Wes and Pete to the new exclusive restaurant Amazonico in Mayfair. This fabulous Brazilian restaurant was created to take guests on a sensory journey inspired by the Amazon River and Latin America. The menu combines Asian and Mediterranean influences with nighty performances of Latin inspired jazz. After an amazing dinner, the evening continued on to the world`s most famous night club Annabel`s, where drinks flowed in the Jungle Bar and dancing in this subterranean paradise. A fabulous evening to celebrate life, after such dark days.

the flower world What a weird year its been. The ups and downs within the nation, the uncertainty and hopes we all held on to and the way we all came together to battle and continue to protect ourselves from Covid-19 has been admirable. In so many different ways for all of us it has changed our lives. The sadness of losing loved friends and families and the difficulties of not being able to say your goodbyes has been heartbreaking. The limited contact between friends and family seemed never ending, but we slowly took steps to restore normality and with the continued safety measures, together worked through the challenges.

FLOWER OF THE MONTH - LISIANTHUS This month we are celebrating Lisianthus as our flower of the month for October. Lisianthus, even with it’s delicate appearance, it is quite robust and whilst it is well known but hardly celebrated. We are giving this magnificent flower well deserved praise in October. Lisianthus originates from North America where it grows in desert riverbeds and in prairie regions. The Lisianthus is sometimes called Eustoma, which is the official scientific name. This flower is mostly seen in white and purple, but there is an enormous choice of colour available; the Lisianthus comes in white, green, blue, pink, lilac, purple and salmon hues. Some flowers even have petals with multiple colours. The lisianthus also comes in many shapes; single and double flowered, large and small flowered and even with fringed petals. Apart from being colourful, lisianthus petals are also very soft and delicate. The lisianthus may have a soft and delicate appearance, but it is sturdy and has powerful symbolism attached to it: this flower represents appreciation, gratitude and charisma, the perfect flower to express all kinds of love. This makes these flowers a perfect candidate for a gift bouquet from someone else, or for you of course! Despite its fine, almost fragile beauty, Lisianthus is a strong flower with a vase life that is much longer than you may expect!
HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON HOW TO KEEP YOUR FLOWERS LOOKING FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL: •
Use a clean vase and clean water. Insufficiently clean vases contain bacteria that can have a negative effect on the vase life of the flowers.
•
Always add cut flower food. This will extend vase life by at least a week.
•
To prevent bacteria formation, strip the stems well under the waterline, and make sure that no leaves hang in the water.
•
Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures. Placing the vase in a cool place will extend the vase life of the flowers.
•
Avoid wide temperature fluctuations and draughts that could otherwise cause botrytis (Grey mould). Lisianthus is susceptible to botrytis infection

jaw pain? suffering with bruxism, the most common of which is the occlusal splint. Occlusal splints function as a mechanical separation between the two arches of the teeth, preventing contact, inhibiting the ability to clench or grind.
A common problem, bruxism (the clenching and grinding of teeth) is thought to affect over 80% of the population, to some degree. Left untreated, it can cause numerous side effects for the sufferer, including: headaches & migraines, stiff neck and jaw, earache, poor sleep quality, and tooth wear.
The SCi splint does just this and is FDA-approved for the treatment of headaches and medically diagnosed migraines. Made of a durable plastic, the SCi is designed to sit over your lower two front teeth, acting as a barrier for your upper arch. They are custom-made to your specifications and can be fitted during your appointment.
Apart from the damage to the teeth, there is nothing about the above that would suggest that the clenching or grinding is the cause. This is often the source of the problem, as too many sufferers are unaware of the true reason for their symptoms - seeking ineffective treatments from their GP instead.
We are trained to supply SCi occlusal splints. Book a consultation today to find out more information.

FLINT & PARTNERS PUTTING THE PATIENT FIRST
WE AIM TO M A KE YOU R E X P E R I E N C E A S W O R RY FREE & PLEA S AN T A S P O S S I B L E Whilst many practices were closed throughout lockdown, Flint and Partners remained open - providing Emergency Care only - on occasions working from 7.00a.m. and delivering vision solutions to disabled and/or shielded patients throughout the night. We’ve been extremely busy caring for both our own patients and new ones with a range of eye care and vision emergencies from the easily solvable such as repairing broken glasses, to more complex sight threatening conditions and serious general health issues. Our state of the art equipment and continuously updated clinical skills enable us to diagnose urgent problems with a degree of accuracy which, in most cases, means patients do not need to be triaged when they arrive at hospital and are directed to the appropriate consultant without delay. There are situations where early, accurate diagnosis and treatment is critical in preventing loss of vision, hence we are known by a number of patients as “sightsavers!” The same is true with some general health conditions, although we find that many people are unaware of the extent to which a number of health problems needing GP or hospital referrals, can be detected via thorough eye examinations; this why we encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of our Enhanced Eye Examination available privately at a cost of £89, or £49 as a supplement to those entitled to NHS care. Presently and going forward, we are now able to offer routine examinations in addition to emergency care. Our Tettenhall Road practice is open six days from 9am and our Codsall and Wednesfield branches are open on a reduced basis – please ring for appointments.
We have suspended our Brewood surgery presently, given the reduced access to GP appointments and the requirement to limit the number of people waiting in enclosed spaces, but you all will be welcome at our Codsall practice. Understandably, some people are still wary of going into public places; we have the welfare of patients and staff uppermost in our procedures and offer a smaller number of consultations per day in a safe and uncrowded environment. This enables us to carry out additional hygiene precautions for both your own protection and that of our staff. We have the required screens in place and all our optometrists have face protection together with gloves which are changed between patient consultations, the equipment being appropriately disinfected also. We aim to make your experience as worry free and pleasant as possible; our convenient locations mean that there is no need to travel unnecessarily causing you to be exposed to crowded environments. Our frames are also cleaned, sterilised and stored so you can ensure your styling session is as comfortable as the eye examination!

helping hands for neck and back pain A very large percentage of the Nation will have had an altered pattern of life for a long period of time, and many people are now finding themselves with new neck and back pains or aggravation of existing neck and back pain. More sitting, more computer work, increased desk work, more watching TV, new hobbies – gardening, DIY , less exercise or even rapid increase of exercise, has in some cases taken its toll on our body. The Tettenhall Road Chiropractic Clinic on the A41 about 1 mile from the centre of Wolverhampton, was established in 1982. After lockdown and following all Government and General Chiropractic Council guidelines, the clinic is fully operating again with all protective measures in place to protect our patients and staff. Traditionally, Chiropractors are well known for the
effective treatment of back and neck pain (Nice Guidelines 2009). Today’s Chiropractors also diagnose and treat other musculoskeletal disorders. Chiropractic is a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustments and other joint and soft tissue mobilisation. If you have neck, back or joint pain, consult your GCC registered Chiropractor at The Tettenhall Road Chiropractic Clinic. “Our purpose is to help reduce your pain, get your body functioning efficiently and to help you lead a more active and healthier life.”

keep your pets in tip top condition Well we’re almost at the turn of the season once again, the nights are starting to fade, the leaves are turning to browns and we’re noticing the cold morning breeze in the air.
and painful joint and dental problems. Although the fresh fruit and vegetables are important, take care not feed too much fruit as we don’t want them getting diabetes.
It’s been a strange year so far, one that we will never forget and normal routines have very much changed. One important routine can still be kept and should not be forgotten and that’s making sure that your pets are in tip top condition! It’s a good time to give your furry friends a once over and a good groom to remove any dead fur, this will help keep their coats nice and healthy and let their skin breath as well as removing any debris. Check their teeth and nails and have a good look at them all over to make sure they are in tip top condition as we head towards the colder months.
Like other rodents, guinea pigs’ teeth continuously grow, so it is important that they get the right diet and care. Just like rabbits, guinea pigs need an unlimited supply of high-quality grass hay to help keep their teeth from growing too long and also to help aid digestion as well as helping to prevent boredom. Dandelions, for example, have a lot of health benefits as they are high in fiber, antioxidants and a good source of minerals as well as vitamins. Rabbits absolutely love dandelions and they can eat the leaves as well as the flower, these along with rabbit friendly twigs can be mixed into their hay and be hidden to make your furry ones life that little bit more interesting. In the wild rabbits would forage for a large percentage of their time and established dandelion plants can flower again in the autumn.
For Rabbits flystrike can be a problem at any time of the year, if a bluebottle fly finds a warm place to feed and reproduce it may continue to do so and not hibernate during the winter. Many flies are harmless but some, such as the bluebottle, will lay their eggs on poor bunnies’ fur. When the eggs hatch the maggots begin to eat the rabbit’s flesh and sadly this can cause shock and death in a very short amount of time.
Take care with rabbit and guinea pig mixes as they can cause the little darlings to feed selectively, picking out their favourite bits and not eating others that contain vital nutrients. Pellets on the other hand are full of fibre and have an even spread of nutrients to prevent selective feeding. Don’t let bunny and piggy fill up on too many pellets though, they need to eat enough hay to help keep their teeth healthy.
Flies are particularly attracted to soiled or damp fur around bunny’s bottom. It is good practice to check your rabbit daily throughout the year and twice daily in the summer, to ensure that they are clean and healthy. Pay particular attention to their behind, keep this area well groomed, clean and dry which will help minimise the risk of Flystrike and ensure that any issues are dealt with immediately. Should you notice any problems, ensure that you contact your Veterinary Surgeon as soon as possible.
It’s a good idea to get an annual check-up with the Vet if possible, to ensure that your furry ones stay in ‘tip hop’ I mean, tip top condition!!! Important always check that your garden plants are non-toxic for your pet before they are planted, some may be toxic to animals and can make them seriously ill and even cause death. Always contact your veterinarian if you are ever concerned about your pet or think that they may have ingested something toxic or something that has not agreed with them.
Just like humans guinea pigs can’t produce their own vitamin C so it’s a good idea to supplement their diet by providing them with fresh fruit and vegetables to ensure that they stay healthy. Bell peppers are a great source of vitamin C and a really tasty treat too. Sadly, without the correct diet guinea pigs will quickly become deficient in vitamin C, which can then lead to a condition called Scurvy. Unfortunately, Scurvy is quite common in guinea pigs, the condition can cause skin issues

another season begins If we get a nice spell of weather through August and into the beginning of September the flowering season of summer bedding and perennials will continue into early autumn. The range of new varieties of tried and tested herbaceous perennials has expanded quickly over the last few years with the introduction of new foxgloves, delphiniums and Lupins alongside the newer plants of perennial Salvia, Gaura and Heuchera - they make a cost effective alternative to summer bedding. Buying perennials from spring through to autumn will give colour for many months of the year. Summer baskets and tubs should still be in their prime through September and possibly into October if we don’t get any early frosts, but as the nights draw in and the weather gets cooler, they’ll begin to fade. Continue to dead head and feed regularly to encourage a late show of colour. Once your baskets have been emptied why not re-plant for winter colour, there’s plenty to choose from – pansies, violas, polyanthus, heathers, ivies and don’t forget to add a few spring flowering bulbs for added colour. Most garden centres sell smaller sized shrubs that are suitable for tubs and baskets and can then be planted out in the garden next spring. These include gaultherias, leucothoe, skimmias and grasses. Once borders have been cleared of summer bedding, you can replant with winter pansies, violas, sweet williams and wallflowers. Hopefully if the weather has been moist we’ll have some of our own field grown wallflowers available from the end of September – they give excellent value for moneyflowering in the spring with the bulbs. Harvest onions and potatoes now – lift up onions and allow to dry out where they’ve been growing if
the weather is fine, before storing. Potatoes should be stored in a cool but frost free environment. Hessian sacks that are available from garden centres are ideal for this purpose. Continue to pick runner beans and courgettes on a regular basis, so that they don’t become stringy. Pick any tomatoes before the first frosts and ripen on the windowsill or use for green chutney. Another pest becoming more common is woolly aphid which usually attacks fruit trees, particularly apples. As the name suggests this looks like woolly deposits on the stems of trees. Inside are the aphids. It can be controlled by spraying Provanto Fruit & Veg Bug killer onto the stems. Make sure that you follow the directions on the bottle as there are set minimum intervals before you can pick fruit. Pick early apples and pears as they become ripe. Eat the earlier varieties straight away, storing later ripening ones for later use. Cover autumn fruiting raspberries against birds. The old fruiting canes can be pruned out during the winter months as the autumn varieties fruit on new season’s growth each year. Clean out greenhouses before putting in overwintering plants and insulate with bubble. Check over heaters ready for the first frosts. As you bring in plants to over winter watch out for vine weevil larvae, especially on fuchsias. If you do see signs of them, drench the compost with Bugclear Vine Weevil control. Buy prepared hyacinth bulbs for Christmas flowering and plant them in bowls with Bulb Compost by midSeptember. Give them a drink and put in a cool, dark place, bringing gradually into the light and warmth once the shoots are approx 3cm high.
We’ve got everything you need to make your garden beautiful! We have been serving local people from the heart of Wolverhampton for almost 150 years so when instruction came to lockdown and close our doors at the end of March we were extremely sad to do so!
We are delighted that our doors opened again in early July and, having reviewed our workplace and practices we are able to see clients safely. Our full team is available and can continue to work with new and existing clients remotely or face to face depending upon individual circumstances and preferences.
However, we were determined to carry on and whilst our once very busy offices at Lich Gates suddenly became eerily quiet overnight on the outside, our legal services continued albeit in a rather different way. We already had the technology to support remote working and so many of the team decamped to swiftly created home offices whilst a very small team of essential colleagues continued to work behind the closed office doors to ensure a smooth transition.

do you need to consider a trust to protect your assets when you are no longer here? Most people think using Trusts are just for the wealthy. I am not so sure and before dismissing the idea, it is definitely worth investigating their use further. They maybe very useful in helping the transition of your wealth to the next generation.
fighting the wars. The friend would have a verbal agreement to be Trusted to look after the land and property until the Knight returned. If the Knight never returned, the ownership of the property would pass to the knights chosen person or persons.
Trusts can be very useful when it comes to cascading your wealth from one generation to the next. Unfortunately, many people are skeptical of them and distrust them, even before exploring how they could be put to effective use.
So, Trusts have a long and established history. What is also interesting to note, is that Trust law has not change very often or dramatically ever since. So, the options are well used and tested by those that are in the know for a long time.
The reality is that there is no need to be concerned about using Trusts as they have been in use for around a thousand years. Trusts are not a new thing and in fact date back to the Crusades when the Knights and the mythical Richard “the Lionheart went off to battle. So how did they work? Your local friendly Knight when about to embark on the crusades, would have an agreement with a friend or family member, to look after his castle, other properties and his land whilst he was away
Who uses Trusts and why should I consider using them? The perception is that only the affluent and the super-rich use Trusts and that most of us don’t need to use them. Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is that most trusts are used by ordinary people that are concerned about their wealth and how it is passed onto the next generation. And just in case you still think that you are only for the super-

rich, here’s some interesting statistics.
in the area of generational wealth planning.
A survey carried out by Credit Suisse found that there are more than 2.4 millionaires and over 800,000 millionaire households in the UK. With house price increasing dramatically over the last 30 to 40 years, for many they may have become asset millionaires without even thinking about it.
More people could avoid the ‘voluntary tax’ Over £5 billion was collected by HMRC in Iinheritance Tax in the tax year 2017/18. As house prices have increased so much and we have an ageing population, this amount is set to rise and rise. Inheritance Tax now affects more families, every year and the rise in property prices means it is not just the wealthy who are impacted. As such more and more people want to do something about the amount of tax that will be due on their death. In some cases, the amount of tax due will be the biggest cheque that their children will write in their lifetime. The problem is only getting bigger.
So, why are more people turning to Trusts to help them with their financial planning? To put it very simply, family setups are now more complex than ever. Around four in ten marriages ending up in divorce many of which will have children. Of great concern to many, is that their money may not pass to their children on their death. Without correctly drafted Wills and the use of Trusts, your wealth could end up in the hands of the wrong people on your death. Generational wealth planning and the use of Trusts is vital to ensure wealth is distributed correctly and not in the hands of the wrong people.
The reality is that many of us work hard during our working lives, save our hard-earned money and simply wish to pass on our wealth to our children and grandchildren as efficiently as possible. As such, this is leading an increasing number of people to look at Trusts, as a way of controlling the distribution of their wealth to the next and subsequent generations.
Many people do not want to leave the distribution of their assets to chance For most of us, the distribution of our wealth is very important to you, so it’s unlikely that you will want to leave it to chance. The distribution of wealth through the generations is not a simple exercise, taking careful planning and consideration. It is potentially complex, and many of us want advice

a quick guide to covid-19 related redundancy start at least 45 days before any dismissals take effect
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was brought in by the government to help affected businesses retain their employees on furlough leave to avoid the prospects of redundancy.
If your employer is making up to 19 redundancies, there are no rules about the timescales for carrying out the consultation. If they are making 20 or more redundancies at the same time, the collective redundancy rules apply.
In practice a lot of businesses have used the scheme to reduce costs but also restructure their businesses and unfortunately make redundancies.
Yes, an employer can put a furloughed worker through a consultation redundancy process and retain them on furlough for their contractual notice period following redundancy.
While the current circumstances might seem to justify an employer’s decision to taking these steps more quickly than they usually would, it is essential that each step is still taken and communication throughout the process is clear. It is unlikely that an Employment Tribunal would excuse an employer for failing to follow any process because of the coronavirus pandemic.
If I am at risk of redundancy, what’s the process?
Settlement Agreements
Consultation process
Settlement agreements are legally binding contracts that waive an individual’s rights to make a claim covered by the agreement to an employment tribunal or court. They often include a form of payment or compensation to the employee and may often include a reference.
Can a worker be made redundant while on furlough leave?
Employees are entitled to a consultation with their employer if you are being made redundant. This involves consulting with them about: • why they are being made redundant; and • any alternatives to redundancy, these can include:
In the aftermath of the first Covid-19 lockdown, employers are increasingly looking for ways to restructure their businesses for the future Settlement agreements have seen an increased use in the current climate where employers will want to avoid the costs of litigation whilst crystallising their liability to employees on redundancy.
o ways to avoid or reduce the redundancies o how the organisation can restructure or plan for the future o how employees are selected for redundancy Length of consultation

you’ll need to book MOT’s and other mechanical work in advance, rather than just dropping in.
Like everyone else, we heeded the government advice and stayed home during the recent health crisis. But we didn’t completely close our doors. Many key workers rely on their cars to get to work.
We are operating a drive-in service for tyres, but only two customers can wait in reception at any one time. So, if you can, the best thing to do is drop your car off and collect it when it is ready. For added protection, we’ve screened off our reception counter and made hand sanitiser freely available to all visitors. We’re also accepting contactless payments for purchases up to £45.
And rapid response vehicles play an essential role in policing our streets. So, we kept our core team in place to look after those who take care of us. Now we are here for you.
If in doubt, check it out.
Throughout the lockdown, our customers and suppliers were very supportive. If we haven’t had a chance to do so in person, we’d like to thank everyone for sticking by us.
If your car was off the road during the lockdown, it makes sense to get it checked over, even if you’ve been driving it around for a few weeks. Inactivity can have a detrimental effect on tyres, batteries and vital fluids. Our health checks cover all the essentials - and they’re completely free.
Next time you visit our centre, you’ll find it’s pretty much business as usual, apart from a few small changes. To make sure everyone keeps a safe social distance,

kia sportage gt-line 1.6 diesel Kia has extended the mild hybrid technology. The engine is assisted by a belt connecting the starter to the crankshaft, a 48volt lithium battery is secreted beneath the floor and it adds in a little extra power of 13bhp. If you lift off from the accelerator to coast or use the brakes, the starter then generates re-chargeable power in to the battery. Kia claim the technology could give up to 4% increase in economy.
When a model has been a huge success for a company, it is difficult to know what to do to make it better, Kia with the Sportage have introduced a 4th Generation of their top selling and most popular vehicle, writes Bob Hickman. The 4th Generation has received a moderate makeover, a new front bumper with fog lamps incorporating LED headlamps. The slim lamps at the rear are now in a horizontal shape with LED’s.
The driving dynamics of the Kia were always of a pleasant, easy to get on with vehicle, the cabin itself is decently spacious and has a huge amount of headroom for both front and rear passengers. I like the factor that the rear seats can be induced to recline, making rear passengers extremely comfortable . Boot space is more than adequate.
In addition the new vehicle has an updated infotainment system and a plethora of extra driving aids. A mild hybrid system on the 1.6 and 2-litre diesel engines has been incorporated and a new 1.6-litre diesel replaces the previous 1.7-litre.
The infotainment system has been upgraded and a new 7” touch screen with satellite navigation is incorporated complete with DAB digital radio. Satellite systems on the grade 2 and above have the Kia Connect System and is powered by an excellent Tom-Tom navigational system. All models in the range however do feature Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
There are 21 variants in the Sportage range, a choice of 7 engines, 3 gearboxes and 5 trim levels, quite an extensive range. Buyers have a choice between 2 wheel and 4-wheel drive. The engine choices range from a normally aspirated 1.6-litre producing 130bhp or a turbo charged 1.6 unit producing 174 bhp. My particular test car had the new 1.6 litre 174 bhp fitted, allied to a wonderful 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. This was an astounding and very comfortable companion and it did make for much more pleasant driving. Kia suggests a 0-60 could be achieved in 8.8 seconds and a top speed of 125mph could be achieved. Kia also claims the CO2 g/km figure is 174 which is quite high and they further suggest the combined fuel figure should be 32mpg. During my week with the vehicle, and on extensive roads of variable configurations I achieved 30mpg.
I did like the rear parking camera and also the smart powered tailgate. These are extras but when you have lived with them you wonder how you managed without them. The GT-Line S 1.6-litre T-GDi 7-speed auto is priced at £32,120. One very important feature that must not be forgotten is Kia’s excellent 7-year ,100,000 miles warranty and 12-year anti-perforation warranty, this really is a pinnacle of warranties that Kia are justifiably proud of.

mg hs accommodate 3 people, the rear boot capacity is 450 litres more than sufficient to enable all the luggage for the number of passengers to be carried. Legroom and headroom are also good.
The name MG to most people is synonymous with British sports cars, it certainly is with me having owned 3 and still own one, but it is the UK markets fastest growing brand and most of the sales are in the SUV market, writes Bob Hickman.
This new MG has the best interior to date and it is a well equipped vehicle, with its bonus of lots of space, a good towing capacity, it should appeal to a brand new marketplace. It has also done reasonably well in the EuroNCap crash tests.
The new HS slots conveniently in to this marketplace. The interior space is very generous especially at the rear where you can get 3 adults in comfort. The HS is available with 3 trim levels, Explore, Excite and my test vehicle the Exclusive.
I have to be honest the HS is an improvement on previous MG’s, they do seem to be getting it right hence it being one of the most prolific car manufacturers before the lockdown with sales rocketing.
There is a plethora of fittings, the mid-level for example gets keyless entry with a push button start, a 10” touchscreen with Apple car play. My top spec Exclusive had leather upholstery, electronically adjustable and heated front seats, dual climate control and a panoramic opening sky roof.
The driving dynamics of the HS was one of a companion that you would be more than happy to be associated with on a lengthy journey. One feature that does warrant a 5* review was the satellite navigation. The TomTom based system is simplistic in its ease of operation unlike some I have had to utilise and again accurate, important information including traffic situations ahead. I also did appreciate from a driving perspective the rear parking camera and also the ambiance of the air conditioning being a dual control system.
My particular derivative was equipped with a 1.5-litre 160bhp engine with a DCT automatic gearbox with a 7-speed ratio, this resulted in a 0-60 in 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph, it returned 36 mpg. The emissions are given as 148g/km. You can if you wish operate the gearbox manually using the steering wheel mounted paddles, it also included three options for driving modes, Eco, normal and sport. In sport mode the interior red ambient lighting was quite a feature.
All in all MG HS does warrant another visit.
A particular feature that will be of interest to the caravanning, boat or horse box towing fraternity is that the MG unit develops 250Mn pulling power which is enough to allow it to pull a braked trailer up to 1750kgs in weight.
The HS is without a doubt an entrant in to this large crossover market and being well equipped and keenly priced from £17,995 to £24,495, add in MG’s wonderful 7-year warranty and the company has another winner potentially on its hands.
Space within the vehicle is generous, it will easily
