1889 il barone Lazzaro Patrone diede inzio ai lavori di costruzione della sua prestigiosa dimora, il Castello Pasquini, dopo aver acquistato in questa località diversi appezzamenti di terreno.

Nel corso dei lavori, i vecchi edifici della precedente proprietà vennero demoliti, i campi coltivati furono trasformati in un curato e rigoglioso parco.

Il barone offri parte dei suoi possedimenti per la realizzazione della stazione ferroviaria di castiglioncello, ponendo come unico vincolo che il fabbricato avesse lo stesso stile del suo castello, al fine di creare armonia tra i due edifici.

Il grande amore del barone per questa incantevole località lo portò a interessarsi dell'intera cittadina, col desiderio che sui terreni di sua proprietà, lungo le splendide scogliere a picco sul mare, fossero costruite poche esclusive ville di lusso.

In questo periodo, la città era anche la capitale della corrente artistica dei macchiaioli, che nel fascino di questi paesaggi trovavano l'ispirazione per i loro capolavori pittorici e che diedero vita alla cosiddetta ''Scuola di Castiglioncello''.

After having acquired different pro-

perties in the area, baron Lazzaro Patrone started reconstructing the Pasquini Castle in 1889.

The restoration has seen the demolition of the abandoned buildings and the transformation of the agricultural land into a magnificent park. The baron offered part of his land to the community for the construction of the train station of Castiglioncello with the condition that the station building be in the same architectural style of his castle.

The baron grew fond of the area and its landscapes and in order to protect it he made sure that on his land overlooking the sea only a few exclusive villas were built. The city became inspirational to the macchiaioli artists for their paintings creating a submovement called on purpose the “Scuola di Castiglioncello”
