LIONS QUEST: DISTRICT A-711
Lions Quest is one of the best projects that Lions can get involved in yet one of the least known by Lions. WHY? It is in 123 countries of the world in 7 different Languages yet originated here in North America. In a world where children get bullied, cyber bullied, sexually abused, mentally abused, addicted to drugs and I can go on we don’t have knowledge of our own Lions program to combat this. WHY? Some of these kids turn to suicide right here in our own communities. WHY? DO WE NOT CARE ANYMORE!!! About six years ago District A711 successfully applied for a Core 4 Grant from Lions Clubs International and the work we have done since has been paid for with that grant money. In June 2015 we used the last of that money doing community workshops which are in words of anyone who has attended one a very worth while project any club can do. Workshops have been held in Milton, Brampton, Leaside and Scarborough so far. In June 2015 I sent out a letter asking clubs to contribute $200 per club to enable us to apply for another grant, at this point 8 clubs out of 80 have replied. Just before Christmas I had a talk with our DG Harold to deal with the issue to try and raise sufficient funds to both apply for a grant and to carry on the work we have been doing with community workshops. The answer we came up with was to approach the clubs again starting in this manner. If your club was one of the 8 I thank you very much if you weren’t please forward a check made out to District A711 Lions Quest to myself so I know what clubs are in: Lion Bill Speck 305-20 Speers Rd. Oakville ON L6K3R5. Respectfully submitted for Governor news letter Jan. 3 2016 District A711 Lions Quest Chair PDG Bill SPECK Lions, please help support this program that helps youth.
