When Leo’s and Lions get together to organize a fundraiser, amazing things happen! It was a proud moment to attend the Kleinburg Leo’s and Toronto Trillium Lions Club fundraiser for a little boy called Alesandro. They needed to raise $150,000 for an operation so that Alesandro can walk.

MISSISSAUGA CENTRAL LC: VETERAN’S DINNER Pat and I had the pleasure of attending the Mississauga Central Lions Club War Veteran’s Dinner evening on November 28 th. We met some very interesting war veteran’s and dined with Major Twist St. R. Bertrand and his wife Yolanda. Major Twist as he likes to be called has served a number of Lieutenant Governors of Ontario after the second world war. It was most exciting to hear of Major Twist accomplishments over the years as well as being very proud to serve his country. Lion President of the Mississauga Lions Club Jeffery Friedman was thanked by the War Veteran’s for providing there annual dinner. (below right)

DISTRICT GOVERNOR: HOLIDAY WISHES During this holiday season I would like to wish all Lions and their families a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all the best wishes for the New Year. This is that time of year to spend these holidays with family and friends. Also to reflect upon the past and think about the future. There are many refugees around the world who are thinking about finding home and Canada will soon be bringing in 25,000 refugees who need your help. Please think about community service projects to help the less fortunate at your next Lions Club meeting.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Very Merry New Year! District Governor Lion Harold & Pat Hobson ISSUE 5 NOVEMBER 2015 PAGE 3 www.a711Lions.org facebook.com/groups/a711lions

BRAMPTON BRAMALEA LC: SPECIAL OLYMPICS - OPENING EYES Zone Chair 34B Lion Mary Lou Pollock Lions Club of Brampton Bramalea have been involved with the Special Olympics Opening Eyes program this past May. If your Lions Club is involved with Special Olympics programs, would you please contact myself, District Governor Lion Harold Hobson as well as Zone Chair Mary Lou Pollock about your involvement. I would be very interested in how you serve your community with this awesome program. (Below) Brampton Bramalea Lions at King City May 2nd
Research has shown that among Special Olympics athletes, 68 percent have not had an eye examination in three years, 37 percent are in need of eyeglasses and 18 percent wear clinically- incorrect eyeglasses. The disabled are a largely underserved group when it comes to vision care. They deserve, and should have access to, quality care that is appropriate to their particular needs. That is why LCIF and Special Olympics began a partnership in 2001 to provide free vision screenings at select Special Olympics sporting events worldwide. Athletes also receive diagnoses for vision-related problems, corrective and protective eyewear, and are taught how to take better care of their eyes. A successful collaborative effort, the Special Olympics-Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes program relies on thousands of volunteer Lions, doctors, vision specialists and educators. More than 350,000 athletes have been screened, with prescription eyewear provided to 110,000 athletes. More than 20,000 volunteer eye care professionals have participated in the program. And, more than 20,000 Lions volunteers worldwide have offered their time and talents for this true team effort that has been active in more than 70 nations. The Opening Eyes program is funded by an LCIF Core 4 grant. Since the program began, the Foundation has awarded more than US$13.3 million in grant funding. At the 96th Annual Lions Clubs International Convention in Hamburg, Germany, LCIF announced an expansion of the partnership and opportunities for Lions.Learn more about that here. For additional information about Opening Eyes, please visit the Special Olympics website. ISSUE 5 NOVEMBER 2015 PAGE 5 www.a711Lions.org facebook.com/groups/a711lions

LIONS QUEST FELLOWSHIP FUND: SPECIAL DRAW THIS YEAR Lions Quest Fellowship Donations from the Lions Family PID Gil Constantini, Multiple District A Lions Quest Chair, proposed a new idea to provide an incentive for Lions/Lioness/Leo Clubs to present a Lions Quest Fellowship. For every Fellowship this year, Lions Quest will set aside $25 in a special fund - and will also provide each Club with an entry into a special draw. At the end of this Lions year, we will draw the name of one lucky club that will receive the fund to put toward a project in their community - maybe even a Lions Quest Community Workshop. If we have 100 Fellowships this year, the fund will be $2,500 - but let's make it at least $5,000. We can do this! ISSUE 5 NOVEMBER 2015 PAGE 8 www.a711Lions.org facebook.com/groups/a711lions
