Letter from the editors Hello Everybody, Welcome to the Session 4 edition of the ILSC Brisbane Community Calendar! Remember that this is your calendar. If you are a current ILSC Brisbane student we recommend you take every opportunity you can to participate in the activities you’ll find here! It’s great to see that our project, which started in July 2016 with only 4 pages, has grown both in size and popularity. This session is so special that we had to add 4 extra pages to be able to feature everything (well… nearly!) that is going

on. Thank you so much for your support and your enthusiasm! Keep reading our stories! First and foremost the Community Calendar wants to be about YOU, so if you’d like to share your story with the wider ILSC family, please drop us a line at Livia.Tramontina@ilsc.com.au and Leon. BellPD@ilsc.com.au. Every student at ILSC has a story. Remember it is no small thing to leave your home country to live and study in a completely different part of the world. YOU ALL HAVE A STORY! Leon and Livia

TAFE Info Session TAFE Queensland is the largest

provider of further education and training in Queensland. It is also one of Brisbane ILSC’s University Pathway partners, which means that you can access its courses

language test. Many ILSC alumni have chosen the practical, industry-relevant training that TAFE Queensland offers. Asuka (the second from the right) studied with ILSC from June 2014 to January 2016 before moving on to TAFE Queensland to study Interior Design and Decoration. She is shown here with current ILSC students discussing the advantages of the University Pathway program and how studying with ILSC Brisbane changed her life!

In the middle of the picture is Andrea, our dedicated TAFE representative. She visits the Career Centre every month to provide students with detailed information about TAFE courses, prices and intake dates. Andrea will be here again on the 5th of April, from 12 to 1 pm in Room 203. Feel free to come and have a chat with her about your study and career goals! If TAFE is not what you are looking for, have a chat with Livia, ILSC Brisbane’s University Pathway Coordinator. She can give you an overview of all ILSC partners and help you choose the right one for you! Ask for an appointment by emailing: livia.tramontina@ilsc. com.au.

ILSC Learn to Earn Our “Leant to Earn” studentPayal- came to ILSC New Delhi through one of their NGO partners (ABHAS). Her father works in a private company and her mother is a housewife. She has one older brother and an elder sister. Payal wants to be a teacher in a school which requires an exceptional standard of English. When she is not studying she enjoys singing! Payal says: “I decided to become an English teacher as I enjoy English and want to learn how to teach

it! Eventually I want to become a lecturer. I think knowledge of the English Language is very important for this. Howevereven if I eventually don’t become a lecturer I can also do some other work such as translating or writing articles. I decided to study for my teacher qualifications with ILSC New Delhi as it is a reputable school and the course offered is exceptional. In five years from now I would like to be working for a good company, earning good money and having good experiences.” ILSC Brisbane has a goal of raising $1200 AUD to go towards Payal’s continuing education to become an English teacher. In the last two months we have had

“Serena’s Sausage Sizzle” (for night time students) two raffles and the “Valentine’s Day Coffee and Cake Sale”. There will be another coffee and cake sale- but this time for night time students- in Session 5! Also expect a lot more raffles and exciting events held by ILSC Brisbane to help Payal reach her goal of becoming an English teacher. If you would like to discover more about the “Learn to Earn” or even donate directly please either Google “ILSC Learn to Earn Educational Sponsorship program” or type in the following link directly to you browser: http://www.ilsc.com/learnearn-educational-sponsorshipprogram
