SHAPING FUTURES SINCE 1823 LJMU can trace its roots back to 1823 and the foundation of Liverpool’s Mechanics’ and Apprentices’ Library. We’ve come a long way since then, becoming a university in 1992 and we are now ranked as 49th in the UK*. Throughout our history we have championed education for all; from our earliest students in the 19th Century through to today’s skilled graduates, who are driving forward 21st Century innovations and economic success, both in the UK and overseas. We take our name from one of the UK’s most successful businessmen, Sir John Moores, who turned his love of football into a business empire that was worth millions. Born into a working class family, he proved that with vision and hard work, anyone can achieve success. So if you have talent, are willing to work hard and grasp every opportunity that comes your way, we are the University that can help you achieve your ambitions.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY Whether volunteering within the local community or further afield, students give their time and talent to help people in need and support a range of worthwhile causes. Volunteering develops life skills, enhances career prospects, opens minds and builds confidence.
ENCOURAGING ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP We help our students make their mark and become truly engaged with their community, whether that’s based on campus, within the city of Liverpool or across the world. Students take up mentorship and leadership roles, make a difference through student societies, inspire schoolchildren and support members of the community.

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY At LJMU, we believe: ‘we are always equal, but never the same’. We are committed to creating a learning and working environment which values and recognises the full potential of each individual. Liverpool’s well placed to explore some of the North West’s most wild and wonderful locations – all easily accessible by train, bus, ferry or car. If you’re studying in Liverpool, you have to take the famous ferry ‘cross the Mersey at least once – arguably the most fun way to discover the Wirral coastline. Walk, cycle or roller skate along the prom at New Brighton, or in low tide head across to Hilbre Island in West Kirby. Overlooking the River Dee, Welsh hills and River Mersey, exploring the Wirral Peninsula is a brilliant day trip out.
The further north of Liverpool you head, the more beach you will find. Closest is Crosby Beach, home to Antony Gormley’s Another Place art installation. The fast-moving tides of the River Mersey give emerging drama to the 100 life-sized cast iron figures, who all stare out to sea. A little further up the coast, the shape-shifting sand dunes of Formby beach will blow the cobwebs away so you can hit the books with a clear head. Beyond the dunes are sweeping coastal pinewoods owned by the National Trust and home to the native red squirrel; a real treat to spot one, so tread softly.

LIVERPOOL LOVES SPORT Our passion for football runs deep; with three professional football teams in Merseyside – Liverpool FC, Everton FC and Tranmere Rovers – we love the game. However, worldclass sport in the region goes far beyond football. Merseyside is the golfing capital of England – boasting more than 40 courses, seven of which are leading championship venues, while the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club produces elite, international level athletes. It is also
the home of the Grand National, the Liverpool International Horse Show, the UK Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series and the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament. Liverpool hosted the British Gymnastics Championship Series and the Vitality Netball World Cup in 2019; and in 2021 hosts the Artistic Gymnastics British championships and the Rugby League World Cup Wheelchair Final.
SUPPORTING ELITE ATHLETES Our Sports Scholarship scheme is a leading initiative in the UK, helping talented students fulfil both their sporting and academic potential. Sports Scholars receive specialist guidance from experts in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, extra study support and cash bursaries. I spent a lot of time with the Careers Team during my final year as I was extremely nervous in the run-up to the assessment centres for graduate roles. They helped improve my CV which was massively important because this is the first piece of information employers usually receive about you. You need to make a good impression otherwise this could be the difference between them progressing or discontinuing your application. They also helped with my interview technique by pointing me in the direction of their online tools which included sample questions and practice aptitude tests. All of these helped to calm my nerves and make me stand out against other candidates on the day. Daniel Flaherty, Electrical & Electronic Engineering graduate LJMU helped me prepare for all stages of the application process for my graduate scheme. I received feedback on my CV as well as advice on the telephone interview and the assessment centre. I also made the most of the online guides and the resources on the Careers Zone 24/7 platform. There is so much invaluable information on there. Isabelle Mooney, Human Resources Management graduate

Three things you like about your job? – I love to sell face to face. I do local makers markets and last year I was part of the Curated Makers pop up in John Lewis Liverpool. It’s brilliant to see the reaction on people’s faces when they appreciate your designs.
What relevant work experience/skills have proved most useful in running a business? – I have worked many jobs including nine years in HMV where I was a manager. Every single job I’ve had has contributed in some way to my capabilities as a sole trader and entrepreneur. Because I have worked a lot, and know how employable I am, it means that I don’t have a fear of failure. If I have to shut up Pin Head
tomorrow it would be sad but I would be able to move onto another project or job. This doesn’t mean I don’t care, it means I can take risks and live with the outcome no matter what.
What help or support did you access from LJMU and how was this useful? – I have had some great tips and pointers from the Centre for Entrepreneurship, the most important one being; try to keep it simple, it’s easy to get carried away with lots of ideas but being great at one thing is so much better. I graduated with first class honours in Marketing in 2019 and used my own business as the case study for my final project. This really helped me to get a deep understanding of my market position plus the opportunities and the risks of my business. Although I did fail to identify the
global pandemic as a threat so a lot of those plans had to be scrapped!
What’s next for your business? – I’m really excited for retail businesses post-lockdown. I have some markets that I’ve signed up to plus an exciting stint at a new bar that’s opening in the Baltic area - a mini shipping container ready for me to dress and set up stall. I’m really chuffed for my stockists that have been eagerly awaiting lockdown easing so they can reopen too; Florence and Fox (Crosby); Mersey Made (L1); Childwall Emporium (Childwall); Voglio (Allerton); and Arts Hub 47 (Aigburth). I’m about to print some t-shirts and totes with a brand new local design too which will be a first for me. For latest Pin designs and news, check out: pinheaduk.com

THE FACTS ABOUT WHAT YOUR UNIVERSITY EDUCATION WILL COST AND HOW YOU CAN PAY n You are charged a tuition fee for every year of your course. Fees for 2022 have not been set yet. In 2021, LJMU fees were set at £9,250* per year for all full-time undergraduate degree programmes. n
You don’t have to pay tuition fees up front – subject to eligibility, you can take out a tuition fee loan for each year of your course. This is paid direct to the University.
n
You can also take out a maintenance loan to help cover your living expenses such as rent and food. This loan is paid direct to you in three instalments.
n Dependent upon where you live in the UK, you may also qualify for grants for living costs too. n You don’t start paying back your student loan until you have left university and are earning over the threshold. The current threshold is £26,575 for students from England and Wales and £19,390 for students from Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The amount of funding you can receive depends on where in the UK you normally live, your household income and if you will be living at home or in other accommodation while you study. For more information visit the following websites:
n
Your monthly repayments will be a percentage of your earnings and are not based on how much you borrowed from the Student Loans Company.
n You may also be eligible for additional funding that doesn’t have to be paid back, but this depends on your household income. n LJMU offers a fantastic range of targeted support for students from lower income households plus scholarships for talented and academically gifted students. n Targeted support is also available for students with disabilities, students with children or students who have been in care or are estranged from their families.

LJMU SUPPORT
SUPPORT FOR CARE EXPERIENCED AND ESTRANGED STUDENTS In 1957 John Lennon joined LJMU’s School of Art and Design, and it was to provide the springboard for so many influential aspects of his life: it was where he met Stuart Sutcliffe and would be visited by Paul McCartney. In recognition of the influence the University played in his life, and thanks to the generous support of Yoko Ono, LJMU has set up the John Lennon Imagine Awards to help students who have either been in local authority care or who are estranged from their parents. Eligible students receive a cash bursary of up to £1000 per year of their course, in addition to funding awarded by social. We also have a dedicated member of staff here to support students and offer advice on anything from university life and budgeting to student accommodation – and everything in between.

The John Lennon Imagine Awards provide extra support for young people who perhaps need it most. I am delighted to have been able to set up these awards in John’s name… he genuinely would have wanted to have helped these students achieve their personal goals. Yoko Ono

LJMU BURSARY
YOUNG ADULT CARERS
The LJMU bursary is automatically paid to eligible students every year of your course – you do not need to apply. The annual LJMU bursary is currently £500. LJMU bursaries are additional funding that you don’t have to pay back. How you spend it is up to you, though this money is intended to help you meet some of the costs of being a student.
To qualify you must meet the residence requirements for student funding (grants and loans) and have a household income of £25,000/year or less. You must also be paying the annual maximum university tuition fee.

I believe LJMU was the right choice for me. When I first arrived, I felt inspired, at home in a sense. I think independence was a big challenge for me, but I have learned to travel on my own, look for assistance on my own and just learnt to socialise. Liverpool John Moores University | 99
If you’d like to go to university but would also like the opportunity to gain skills in the workplace, a degree apprenticeship could be just what you’re looking for.
Under the apprenticeship scheme, an employer will sponsor you through university so you can carry on working and gaining relevant skills and experience while studying towards your qualification.
Why should you study towards a degree apprenticeship? n Y ou’ll gain a Foundation degree (Level 5), Bachelors degree (Level 6) or a Masters (Level 7) n Y ou’ll work with experienced professionals who can provide insight into the sector n Y ou’ll earn a wage and complete your studies without having to pay tuition fees n Y ou’ll develop practical skills and knowledge – the kind of skills and knowledge you can only gain while working with professionals in your field. The degree apprenticeship programme combines academic study with development of professional skills and behaviours in the workplace. Many apprenticeships also include a professional body assessment.

Please visit ucas.com for the latest information.
Applying for deferred entry LJMU will consider applications for most programmes for deferred entry, but please check prior to submitting your form. You can do this online at ljmu.ac.uk/courses
Applications for part-time, degree apprenticeships and postgraduate programmes Applications for part-time, degree apprenticeships and the majority of postgraduate programmes should be made directly to LJMU and we welcome applications throughout the year. Applications can be made through our online application form. Go to ljmu.ac.uk/courses, select the course you are interested in and then follow the ‘Apply direct’ link.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS At LJMU we welcome applicants with a wide variety of educational qualifications including: n A/AS levels n BTEC qualifications n QAA Approved Access to HE Diploma n Advanced Diplomas n Advanced Apprenticeships n Irish Leaving Certificates n International Baccalaureate n Open University credits n NVQ Level 3 n T Levels n Scottish Highers n Welsh Baccalaureate n Equivalent home and overseas qualifications Most of the entry requirements detailed within this prospectus are listed as a UCAS Tariff score. If you cannot see your qualification please refer to the UCAS website at ucas.com, contact our Course Enquiries team on 0151 231 5090 or email courses@ljmu.ac.uk and they will be happy to advise you. Mature and non-standard applicants, such as care leavers or applicants returning to education, will be considered on an individual basis and may be asked to submit an essay and/or attend an interview – contact the relevant admissions office for more information.
Minimum entry requirements For all of our courses there will be a minimum UCAS Tariff score requirement. In addition, many courses will ask for specific subjects and grades at GCSE and/or A level or equivalent. If a GCSE subject is required you will always need at least a grade C or grade 4.
The offer process There are a number of offers that we can make you. n An unconditional offer - this will be made if you already satisfy the entrance criteria (i.e. you may be a mature student or already have the results of your examinations). n
A conditional offer - this will be made if you have yet to sit your examinations, and you will be advised of the grades and other criteria we would like you to fulfil.
n A changed course offer - if we have read through your application form and think that you would be best suited to a different course, we will contact you to offer you an alternative unconditional or conditional offer for another course. You do not have to accept this offer should you not wish to do so.
For information regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, please see page 168.
Applicant Day events Once an offer has been made, we will invite you to a schoolbased Applicant Day, where you will have an opportunity to meet current staff and students, see the facilities in more detail, and find out about our student accommodation.
Making your Firm and Insurance choices Once you have received decisions back from all your choices, you will be asked to decide which two offers you wish to accept. You will have to choose which you wish to make ‘Firm’ (your first choice) and which you wish to make ‘Insurance’ (your second choice).
UCAS Extra If you have applied for all your five choices through UCAS but are not successful in gaining a place or you have declined all the offers you received, you will be eligible for UCAS Extra. UCAS Extra runs from February to July.

Receiving your results
Clearing
You will automatically be accepted if you meet the requirements of your Conditional Firm (CF) offer with LJMU. If you do not attain the required grades, we may still accept you on your chosen programme or offer you an alternative programme. If your application is unsuccessful you will then be considered by your ‘Insurance’ choice.
Clearing is an additional opportunity to get a place at university, starting a course in September 2022. If you are late to apply, or do not fulfil the conditions of your conditional or unconditional choices, you can then enter the Clearing process. During Clearing, you contact universities directly to establish if you can be accepted on to one of their courses. Clearing will take place during August, after exam results are released.

The IB Diploma does not attract UCAS Tariff points. However, the constituent qualifications of the IB Diploma do. The Tariff points for an IB Diploma can be calculated by adding together the Tariff points for each of its components. Note that the Creativity Action Service (CAS) component is not accredited and does not attract Tariff points. If your qualification is not listed here please refer to the UCAS Tariff at: ucas.com

These sessions are absolutely fantastic – out of all the universities that we work with, LJMU has put on the best online sessions for students. There is such a mix of content and the themes are very useful, particularly Harvard Referencing and EPQ. Thanks again! Altrincham College
