EVENTING

The British Silver medal winning team, left to right: William Fox-PItt, Tina Cook, Zara Phillips and Harry Meade

William Fox-Pitt and Chilli Morning led going into the final phase, but a costly pole in the show jumping saw them slip into Bronze behind Sandra Auffarth and Michael Jung. William was philosophical saying, at least it was only one pole.

Zara Phillips and High Kingdom jumped a clear round to finish in eleventh place. Zara was clearly delighted and got the crowd cheering as she left the arena.

Harry Meade and Wild Lone made the cross country look easy as they cruised round in their normal beautiful style, but just moments after they finished celebrating such a fantastic round, Wild Lone collapsed and died. It was emotional watching Harry supporting his fellow team members throughout the show jumping, which was held in the impressive D’Ornano Stadium. Speaking afterwards Harry said: “The team have all been very supportive and I couldn’t have been with such good friends at this sad time. There isn’t a more fitting way to remember such a wonderful horse than winning a medal in his memory.”

Wilf bowmanripley from essex, Georgina Hunt from Newdigate in Surrey and Dick Lane from cranleigh in surrey formed the british Driving team at WeG.

Georgia Hunt Georgina inherited her love of carriage-driving from her father, who was a founder member of the Brockham Harness Club and acted as his back-stepper and groom when she was younger. Georgina trains with Boyd Excel.

Dick Lane Dick has been competing since the early 1990s. Dick’s current team of horses for the dressage phase are all Lipizzaners originating from the Lipica Stud in Hungary, he substitutes one of them for a Hungarian Trotter to give extra speed and agility in the cross-country phase.
