e were all saddened at the Localrider office to hear of the passing of the brilliant and inspiring show jumper, Tim Stockdale. The enormous number of tributes across social media only reflect what a kind and generous friend to so many he was. We have many fond memories of Tim amongst the team and are thinking of his family at this time.

Bridging the Gap Inside this issue are stories, pictures and show reports, from across the region, including on page 36 an interview with this issue’s cover star, Laura Schroter, who won the Mark Todd Bridging the Gap Scholarship. Turn to page 46 for one of our favourite reports, the Children In Need weekend organised by the team at Pyecombe. Over the last eight years the shows have raised an incredible £12,000 for the Charity.

Locals to cheer for at Olympia There is so much to look forward to in December, including our annual pilgrimage to Olympia for the London International Horse Show, which ends this year just two days before Christmas. If you are going to Olympia on Wednesday afternoon, remember to cheer loudly for Daisy Lewis, Katie Bradburne and Florence Marriott, all of whom are taking part in the Mini Major competition. You can read more about them and the competition on page 34 and for Christmas Gift Ideas take a look at our ‘Wish List’ on page 14.

It’s all about you! Nestled in the stunning East Sussex countryside, just outside Hartfield, stand two shiny black horses, except these aren’t ordinary black horses, these are mechanical ones, owned by BHS Intermediate Instructor Amelia Wilbourn. Amelia says: “As the days are now shorter take the opportunity of coming to the mechanical horses and focus purely on yourself without the distraction of your horse or pony and explore your own patterns of movement.

The champion show jumper who inspired a generation of young riders. Tim Stockdale touched the hearts of all he met with his bright smile and can do attitude. At big events like Hickstead and HOYS he was the man to cheer, the one you knew would give everything to jump clear in the fastest time. The picture above was taken moments after he won the King George V Gold Cup on Fresh Direct Kalico Bay at Hickstead in 2010, and moments like this is how Tim will be remembered. Tim died peacefully at the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton on Wednesday 14th November, aged 54, following a diagnosis of stomach cancer in October. Tim is survived by his wife Laura and two sons, Joseph and Mark.

SEIB Search for a Star Mountain and Moorland Championship The first ever SEIB Insurance Brokers Search for a Star Mountain and Moorland Championship took place at Your Horse Live at Stoneleigh Park on the 9th November. Chantelle Chapman riding her mother Victoria Oliver’s Fell pony, Greenholme Falcon, took this brand-new title in the BETA arena at Your Horse Live in front of an enthusiastic audience. SEIB Insurance Brokers have set up the new Search for a Star Mountain and Moorland championship with the help of Your Horse Live to create more opportunities for amateur riders at a national championship level. Amateur riders and their Mountain and Moorland ponies have travelled the length and breadth of the country since the first Search for a Star qualifier back in April in their quest to get through to this new final at Your Horse Live. Fifteen ponies qualified and fourteen went in front of judges Sandy Wooderson and Matthew Lawrence at the final. Both judges upheld the tradition at Search for a Star finals of talking into a microphone and sharing their thoughts with the audience. Their reflections provided a fascinating insight into the breeds and what is expected when showing mountain and moorlands. The winner, Greenholme Falcon has been owned by Victoria Oliver for just eighteen months. This seven-year-old Fell pony was piloted to victory very ably by thirteen-year-old Chantelle who was the youngest rider in the final. Matthew Lawrence said: “Our winner caught my eye upon entering the ring. He is a lovely true to type pony that was beautifully ridden.”

This foot perfect performance from Greenholme Falcon who is known at home as Dan was the result of plenty of hard work from Chantelle in the run up to the show. Chantelle’s mother, Victoria said: “Chantelle hasn’t stopped smiling since the class. She is very competitive and likes everything spot on. This has been a brilliant experience for her and she is really learning that hard work pays off! We went to the Search for a Star training day in September and Chantelle got some really good tips including learning more about the importance of standing the pony up correctly.” SEIB Marketing Manager Nicolina Mackenzie said: “We are truly delighted to be able to give amateur Mountain and Moorland enthusiasts this opportunity to compete for a national showing title at Your Horse Live. Search for a Star is now in its 22nd year and we are continually looking at ways to include more riders in the series and help them achieve their dreams. We have been searching for a venue for the M & M’s for decades and we hoped the renowned Mrs Pat Campbell would be involved but unfortunately that was not possible however she was in our thoughts. Personally, I am extremely grateful to Emma Bedford at Your Horse Live for giving us this opportunity. It is extremely difficult to find the ‘big occasion’ that really gives amateur riders the truly special experience that Horse of the Year show provides and Your Horse Live definitely came up to the mark. The competitors have all said what a wonderful time they have had and how special they have been made to feel. That in my opinion is what it is all about, not everyone can win but everyone should have a good time, by the way, I don’t think the shopping hurt either!”. www.seib.co.uk

London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2019

he London’s New Year’s Day Parade (LNYDP) returns for 2019 celebrating Britain’s diverse multi-cultural capital with All The Queen’s Horses showcasing plenty of variety amongst its equine participants this year. The Parade’s theme is ‘London Welcomes The World’ and celebrates our vibrant, multi-cultural society and the visitors who flock to our capital from all over the world. On the 1st January 2019, London will see Norwegian, Spanish, German, Dutch, American horses stepping out along with their equine friends from the United Kingdom in the party like no other. Joining them will be little miniature horse and TV star Azlan who is an experienced parade horse (the past three years he has strutted his stuff across the big city). Azlan is a 10-year-old Appaloosa Falabella stallion, who stands at just 32 inches tall. This year Azlan and owner Hannah have been given the theme of the Antarctic, Azlan will be going as a reindeer and Hannah will be going as an Eskimo. No stranger to the limelight, the pair were featured on a TV Show called “Teach My Pet To Do That” which was presented by Alexander Armstrong. Hannah said: “The challenge was to train Azlan to answer the door to the sound of a doorbell, which he did incredibly well and we came home with a trophy for Pet Of The Day.” The LNYDP is a free family event and has taken place every year since 1987 with All The Queen’s Horses participating since 2012. Around 500,000 spectators attend the event every year, and the route runs from Piccadilly near Green Park to Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall to Parliament Square. The parade starts at noon, and you can catch All The Queen’s Horses from 1 pm onwards. Enjoy one of London’s highlights with its a unique equestrian angle. www.allthequeenshorses.co.uk

to music training sessions, teaching the girls about music, floorplans and how to ride a dressage to music test. The highlight of Saturday evening was a busy lecture demo and BBQ with Leanne Wall, featuring Holly and the amazing Lorenzo. They were joined by Jersey Garrett and Daisy Douglass, with Isla Sulley opening the show. A great visual display with fantastic insight from Leanne, the evening was informative, engaging and inspiring.

he weekend of the 19th to 21st October 2018, 24 aspiring young dressage riders aged from nine to nineteen descended upon the fabulous facilities at Parwood Equestrian Centre for a weekend of training and fun with a focus on the ever popular Dressage to Music. Friday kicked off with arrival, settling in of ponies, reunion of friends and a quick but fast meeting of new friends. Plus, a gorgeous supper provided by our fantastic caterer, and new Team Southern best friend, Andy. The weekend featured individual training sessions from incredible trainers, Sue McMahon and Leanne Wall. Both gave positive feedback of the riders, not just in respect of the immediate improvements made during camp, but also following camp. Alongside the lessons, workshops and informative talks from Dengie and Protexin, the fabulous Holly Colgate Hardaway danced her way through a day of dressage

Day Two

Sunday was a flurry of lessons and competition riding. We have some exceptional up and coming riders in BD Youth Southern and whether it was a personal best, a training test or a pas de deux, every single child rode with maturity and focus. What was really inspiring was to see how each and every child and parent supported each other from tacking up,

One parent said: “We wouldn’t want to do dressage any other way. The camps and ongoing training give the girls more than just tuition. My daughter has made more lifelong friends within BD Southern in a few years than she has ever school. It’s such a positive encouraging environment and they all share such a true passion, that never shows itself as anything but supportive. I’ve seen her flourish with her training and with how she competes. Her confidence has grown as she truly feels part of something.”

wo of the world’s elite dressage riders came to honour the achievements of volunteers from the region’s Riding for the Disabled Association at the annual conference and awards ceremony in October. A record-breaking turnout from across four counties were treated to presentations from Paralympic Gold Medallist, Sophie Christiansen and International Grand Prix rider and world class coach, Sarah Sjoholm Patience. Nearly 150 delegates also enjoyed workshops and talks from David Mortlock from the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights, Emma Bayliss from RDA UK’s national office who talked about the Tracker System and participant Sally Jones of Kipling County who outlined her path through RDA in both carriage driving and riding. There was also the annual presentation of the regional awards by the presenters, as well as a new award from regional sponsors, Cowan Architects, in recognition of the Young Volunteer of the Year, the Cowan Challenge Trophy.

Awards: Cowan Challenge Trophy for the Young Volunteer of the Year – Georgia Budden from Quest RDA (Chobham, Surrey) who has shown total commitment and helped out in the holidays with extra chores, always being the first to step forward and offer to help. Young Volunteer Hebe Award – Emily Heyman from Cobbes Meadow RDA (Chartham, Kent) for being a loyal member of the team, giving her time twice a week to help with both riding and driving. Participant Titan Award – Helena Burgess from Chalkdown RDA (Staplehurst, Kent) suffers with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and a range of additional disabilities that leaves her with constant pain and chronic fatigue. She has been a determined, brave young woman who has blossomed and grown. Participant Titan Award – Freddie Lamb of Quest RDA who has Aspergers and hypermobility. He has worked really hard to improve his riding while always smiling and his confidence has grown tremendously. He raised £500 for Quest by completing a 2 mile sponsored ride. Special Recognition Trophy – Julie Jones of Quest RDA in her role as chairman for a group that has expanded the number of ponies and places that it can offer following substantial fundraising and leadership.

Horse of the Year – Sinatra from Epsom RDA (Surrey) who is a favourite because he just strides out and enjoys his work. Buchan Bobby Award – Hope in the Valley RDA (Plumpton, East Sussex) which has had a stellar year, celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a Royal Visit, sending two riders to the RDA National Championships and giving up one of their riding sessions to act as ambassadors to the RDA with a Countryside Challenge demonstration to 160 Trefoil Guild Members at Firle Place in East Sussex. Tora Bray Award – Pauline Lane, Cranleigh RDA (Surrey) and Retiring Surrey County Chair who has worked tirelessly to help others with reliability and dedication.

Volunteer of the Year – Pauline Roestenburg of Chalkdown RDA who took over the Chair two years ago and has transformed the group’s impact on the local Kent community, doubling the number of volunteers, adding to the Trustees and overhauling the finances into a healthy cash surplus. Long Service Awards – Susie Hill, Chalkdown RDA and Teresa Jones, Epsom RDA for 25 years’ service Legacy Awards – Vernon Roper, Long Furlong RDA (Pyecombe, West Sussex) should have received his 25 years long service award but died leaving an impressive legacy of energy and enthusiasm and Janet Bettell Higgins from Kipling County RDA (Chalvington, East Sussex) who was another legend, loved by so many whose lives she touched.

Hotly-anticipated DC Dressage Swivel Bit gains BD approval

here has been a lot of talk recently about what’s being questioned as perhaps the horse industry’s ultimate bit. The DC Dressage Swivel bit by Bombers Equestrian Equipment is the latest bit from the range to gain approval for dressage from the sport’s British governing body, British Dressage (BD). The Bombers DC range has swivelling elements designed to release as many pressure points within the equine’s mouth as possible, creating a comfortable communication. The bit reins attach to the large dee-ring on the mouthpiece of the Bombers DC Dressage Swivel, which swings open independently of the bit’s cheekpieces. Further key features are the swivel mouthpiece, and the small, loose ring bridle attachment onto which the bridle’s cheekpiece affixes, which can rotate. This ensures the horse’s poll and cheek areas are relieved from rein engagement.

What mouthpieces are approved?

BD has approved the DC Dressage Happy Tongue Swivel, a sweet iron mouthpiece which is curved and ported for tongue relief, and the DC Dressage Bomber-Blue Swivel, made from a rubber-nylon compound, and also ported. The swivel allows the mouthpiece to naturally adjust with the horse’s movements, maintaining a comfortable position. Your Colic Worries Answered Words by Ed Lyall BVetMed CertEM MRCVS of the Sussex Equine Hospital

ncredibly, there are over 70 different types of colic and these can be divided into many different categories, including: the location of problem; the type of lesion; and the treatment required. Colic is most often a problem of the gastrointestinal tract (digestive system), but can be created by other organs such as the bladder, kidneys or liver. Signs of colic vary but can start mild and quickly progress to severe signs of distress. It is absolutely imperative, therefore, to call your vet immediately to get further advice if you suspect colic.

Clinical signs

The term “colic” simply means abdominal pain and horses can show a huge number of clinical signs including, but not limited to; dullness, decreased appetite, pawing the ground, flank watching or kicking, restlessness, walking in circles, getting up and down, rolling, increased breathing, and sweating. Your vet will firstly try to determine the type of colic your horse has. More common types include; spasmodic colic (the guts go into spasm and cramps), gassy colic (an area of intestine or colon gets a pocket of gas trapped and the horse becomes bloated), displacements (a section of intestine or colon moves into the wrong place in the abdomen, becomes twisted and builds up with gas), and impactions (the passage of food material is slowed or stopped and this creates a blockage).

Most horse owners have horse insurance but the general limit on any insurance claim is £5,000. Given that colic is one of the most common emergencies attended by vets and the potential costs surrounding a surgical colic, it is always worthwhile exploring all insurance options available to you. If there are insurance policies that have a higher limit for colic then these should be considered. Fortunately, most colic’s can be managed without surgery or intensive medical management. Some lucky horses will go their entire lives without a single case of colic. Some will have only two or three bouts but some horses colic frequently. Frequent bouts of colic can be frustrating as the cause of the colic is often very difficult to determine. Conditions such as wind-sucking and gastric ulcers can cause repeat bouts of colic, as can parasites and rapid management changes. Owners often ask if colic is their fault and the answer is almost always no. The horse has a very complex gastro-intestinal anatomy and it is this that predisposes the horse to colic. Even the best well managed horse can get colic. The practice has the back up of the RCVS Accredited Hospital.

Treatment

Colic can also be described as either medical or surgical and this is based on what kind of treatment your horse may require. The vast majority of cases are medical colics, the type that doesn’t require surgery to correct the problem. Medical treatment can be as simple as painkillers, antispasmodic drugs and walking, or can require more aggressive medical management involving hospitalisation, IV fluid therapy, lunging and other drugs. However, approximately 10% of colics are described as surgical and can be the result of medical colics that fail to respond to medical management, such as a displacement. In this circumstance, a surgeon must go into the abdomen and manually put the colon or gut back in to the right place. In some instances, the gut cannot be corrected by medical management and surgical treatment is the only option. An example is a twist in the small intestine, which causes a portion of small intestine to die. A surgeon needs to manually untwist the small intestine and remove the portion of dead gut.

What will it cost?

With so many different types of colic, the treatment for each type will differ. If the colic can be corrected easily with administration of drugs then the bill will be relatively low, although some medical colics that require multiple visits can cost hundreds of pounds. If a horse requires intensive medical management in a hospital, then the costs can run into the thousands of pounds. Colic surgery is one the biggest operations a horse can undergo usually lasting hours and costing approximately £5,000 depending on the type of colic, although the bill can reach £8,000 - £10,000 if there are complications or a second surgery is required.

Surviving the winter months with Katie Preston

Petplan Equine Ambassador and Veterinary Surgeon Katie Preston balances a busy work schedule with caring for and riding her three horses; Templar Justice (TJ), Dreams Come True (Tia) and Templar Juno (Juno). Like many of us, Katie has her own personal hacks to help her get through the long winter months, starting with a full health check for all her horses. Rather uniquely, all of her horses live out, including her four-star eventer TJ who completed both Burghley and Luhmühlen with Katie this year. Here Katie shares her winter survival tips with us…

Full health check

I make sure my horses’ vaccinations are up to date and I get their teeth checked and rasped. It is also very beneficial to have a Faecal egg count done and worm accordingly. I also have the horses checked over by a qualified physiotherapist to keep them in top shape and feeling well after a busy season. It is important to get those little niggles seen to, so your horse can come through the winter well.

Saddle fit

I never assume that the saddle I used throughout the year will still fit; my horses will change shape and especially my four-year-old, Juno, who is still maturing. I recommend booking a qualified saddler to come out to check your saddle at least yearly and while you’re giving your horse a full MOT going into winter, this is a good time to do it.

Regular grooming and hoof care

It doesn’t matter if your horse is in at night or if they live out 24/7 they will be in and out of rugs. With this in mind, I make sure I thoroughly groom my horses at least twice a week if not daily to help prevent skin problems. It also means I can spot any cuts, mud fever or lumps and bumps. If your horse is left unclipped, hairy winter coats can hide things if you aren’t thorough enough. I also pick out my horses’ feet daily, which allows me to look for thrush which is so common in the wet weather.

Keeping my horses out over the winter

As my horses are out all year round, it really saves me time, especially in winter. It’s also good for their health, helping prevent respiratory problems and colic. I find it helps keep them sane and prevents boredom. If you aren’t able to turn out in a field, try turning out in the arena for a few hours, or at the very least ride or lunge them daily. I also monitor their feed closely. TJ is currently

Vary your horse’s routine by lunging still being fed his regular amount even though he is in lighter work, just because I want to keep him in good condition. I also work haylage into their routine and increase the amount as the grass in the paddock decreases.

Water I know it seems like an obvious one, but I check my horses’ water regularly to make sure it is clean, not frozen over and not surrounded by mud. If you are able to move your water source, do this regularly to make sure the ground does not become poached. Some horses prefer slightly warm water and if they are particularly fussy I would put apples in the buckets to encourage drinking to stop dehydration and possible impaction colic.

Keep their routine varied It can be hard with all the bad weather that comes with winter to get out and hack but to ensure my horses don’t get bored I try not to spend my whole time trotting endless circles when I’m schooling. I incorporate weekly sessions of pole work and jumping and go to the beach or the gallops as much as possible, which not only helps fitness levels but keeps my horses fresh and interested. I also often lead one horse and ride the other, which saves time.

Personal fitness As you concentrate on your horse’s fitness it’s easy enough to forget about your own fitness. I find Pilates is great for my core strength. I also benefit from regular running or even walking and this means when I am out riding I don’t end up more tired than my horse.

Finding motivation I normally use the winter months as a bit of ‘downtime’ for me and my horses. After what is normally a busy summer, it is nice to have some time to meet up with friends and enjoy some social events. I don’t want my horses to become a chore, especially during the shorter days of winter, so I try and have things to aim for which get me out of bed. For example, I will enter a show jumping competition, so during the week I know I have to get out and ride, to prepare for that. It also helps when you enjoy riding as much as I do. aura Schroter, 23, from Coolham near Horsham in west Sussex is the 2018 Mark todd Bridging the Gap Scholar, and over the next year, will receive mentoring and training from Mark, plus £3,000 worth of product from the Mark todd Collection and Keyflow Feeds. the Mark todd Bridging the Gap training (MtBtG) series has been designed specifically for those who are aiming to move into Advanced / 2*eventing and those working towards a more established 3* level. the training series, which is sponsored by Keyflow and Mark todd Collection aims to ‘Bridge the Gap’ between under 21s / Young riders and world Class, providing coaching support to those who fall outside of these categories and help them to move forward and achieve their goals. riders who have attended a British Eventing ridden training day during the

year can apply for the scholarship. Six finalists are then invited to the MtBtG final where they ride on the flat and over fences in front of Sir Mark and MtBtG coaches, Gill watson and Lizzel winter. the finalists are also interviewed by representatives from Keyflow and the Mark todd Collection. the calibre of all the finalists, who were Libby Seed, Laura Schroter, Alycia Port, Ashley Edmond, Melissa Joannides and Amy Hawley, was impeccable throughout all phases of dressage, show jumping and interview and the panel had a difficult decision to select the winner. Sir Mark todd said: “we had a particularly strong line-up this year, with all of our riders having strengths in different areas. Consequently, it took a fair bit of deliberation, but it was, ultimately, a unanimous decision. Although not everyone can win, Bridging the Gap finalists should

always see the invitation to attend as an acknowledgement of their ability. i hope they all took something away from the experience and we wish them every success in the future.” Cam Price of Keyflow Feeds added: “we were certainly spoilt for talent this year, but Laura is a deserving winner: she ticked all the boxes in terms of her set-up at home, her horsepower, ambition, drive and talent, and we hope that she will go on to be another successful scholar for Bridging the Gap.” Carol Allison, on behalf of the Mark todd Collection, concluded: “From a commercial viewpoint, we were impressed that the riders had solid goals in mind, with plans in place to help achieve and fund their competitive ambitions, whilst also being aware of the importance of networking with owners, clients and sponsors.”

Laura took Billy Senora aka Nora a nineyear-old by Billy Mexico to the selection day. Previously ridden by Gemma Tattersall, for whom Laura worked as a working pupil for 18 months after she left school, Laura describes Nora as incredibly sensitive but amazing, adding: “She is an absolute machine and doesn’t hesitate at anything.” Talking about the selection day Laura said: “After the interviews we were split into two groups and walked a course with Mark, who then warmed us up. After jumping round once Mark asked us to do it again, adjusting our line and striding through a related distance.” For the last two years Laura has run her own competition yard from home with a mixture of sales and schooling liveries as well as her competition horses. Alongside some exciting young horses which will be aimed at the age classes next year, Laura has the nine-year-old Willem Van Wup who she has produced since her grandparents bought him for her as a four-year-old. The combination completed the CIC*** 8/9 year old class at Blenheim in September and Laura hopes to compete in the CCI*** U25 Championships at Bramham in 2019. Laura is also looking forward to cementing her partnership with Nora, who will be stepping up to two star next year. It was good to see other local event riders, Alycia Port and Melissa Joannides taking second and third place in the Mark Todd Bridging the Gap Scholarship, receiving training vouchers for £200 and £100 respectively.

he Halloween show at Golden Cross is always a popular show and this year was no exception, with a fantastic turnout in both showing and jumping classes. With 30 plus in the Fancy Dress the class had to be split into three parts for judging, with June Crouch and her family finally securing first place with their great outfits and the super theme of the Addams Family. Their pony Sophie is a true star, not a murmur of protest from her about her spooky costume dressed as Cousin Itt. Gabrielle Howell and her 18-year-old Swedish Warmblood Mirakula Gii won both the 75-80cm and 80-85cm Show Jumping classes. Mirakula Gii has been part of Gabrielle’s family for 11 years but was semi-retired four years ago when Gabrielle’s sister moved abroad. Just a month ago Gabrielle brought her back into work and this was the very first time she had ever competed her, so to come away with two wins and in the two biggest classes was incredible for the pairing, especially considering this is the highest Gabrielle has ever competed. Gabrielle said that Mirakula is a once in a lifetime horse who always tries her best and she hopes to continue

having lots of fun on her for many more years. Ten-year-old Julie Meredith Jones also had a great day taking first in the hotly contested 50cm Show Jumping with her 16-yearold Welsh Section A, Maisie. Her mother, Joanna, said that Julie has enjoyed her jumping this year and has won a couple of Pony Club competitions as well as a sixth place in the Show Jumping at the Sunshine Tour Championships and a sixth place in her first one day event at Lockskinners in September. Otherwise Julie does a bit of mounted games on Maisie (for West Kent Sevenoaks Pony Club) and absolutely loves playing polocrosse at Kent Target polocrosse club in Goudhurst - mostly on her little Shetland pony, Tinker, but sometimes on Maisie too. Maisie has two gears - very fast, very slow and nothing in between! Throughout the day the ever popular ‘Feed Room’ which overlooks the indoor arena kept competitors and spectators well fed and watered, a full English Breakfast on a Sunday morning while watching the competition goes down a treat.

rea 13 Riding Club ran the 2018 Dressage to Music Championship at Sands Farm, Warnham. The Championships are continuing to grow in popularity and every year the standard of dressage continues to improve. Competitors came from as far away as Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Kent to compete, with Riding Clubs based in Sussex and Surrey having the largest entries. First of the nine classes on offer was the Intro, which was won by Victoria Chuter and Bryncadoc Royal Mirage from West Surrey Riding Club. The winner of the Prelim class for the second year running was Sarah Barnett from Rogate Riding Club riding Romeo. The two Novice classes, Section 1 for horses with no BD points and section 2 for horses with points were won by Nick Caddick from Wey Valley Riding Club riding Share Holder and Georgie Kneller from Maidstone Riding Club riding Carnsdale Kingmaster, respectively. Competitors in the Pas Seul, dressage to music in costume, had decorated themselves and their horses beautifully, with Tracy Robus and Billy Dreamer from Hailsham Riding Club taking the top spot. The Elementary class was won by a local combination from Horsham Riding Club, Stella Gibbs and her own Copperfield Ellie Mae. Stella has trained Ellie Mae from a four-year-old and hopes to upgrade to the Medium class next year. The Medium class was headed by another local combination, Sue Brougham and Narramore Musician from Newlands Corner Riding Club. The final class of the day, the Advanced Medium was won by Mid Sussex Riding Club members, Tessa Seed and Titan.
