his popular annual event at the Faversham Show Ground (next to Farming World) had six arenas of competition, covering showing, show jumping, dressage and a fun dog show. This year the event was delighted to receive in excess of 600 entries across the sixty plus classes. The judges and staff worked tirelessly all day judging the horses and ponies of all shapes and sizes (only just finishing the last class before the sun set!) and were delighted to receive so many kind comments from the riders. The event boasts some prestigious championship classes including the ‘15+ Horse & Pony Society

Veteran Horse/Pony Champion of Kent’, which was won by Sam Prior and Daisy II. Sam Prior said: “Daisy is a 21-year-old 15.1hh Thoroughbred cross. We have done many things over the 11 years that she has been with me, everything from dressage, show jumping and even had a go at showing at County level, but by far the best and biggest was being part of the winning Moat View Quadrille team in 2012 at Olympia. Even at 21 she still surprises me with her cheeky ways, she loves her work and to willing turn her hoof to anything, including Trec where she had a blast.” The event also includes the finals of

the Barrett’s Land Rover and Jackson’s Fencing Showing, Jumping and Dressage Championships. These classes attract riders from Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Essex who have had to qualify by being placed first to third in one of the qualifying classes held over the previous 12 months. This year the standard was particularly high, especially in the Mountain and Moorland Championship, which was eventually won by Hannah Naylor and Derry, who went on to take the Supreme Ridden Championship at the end of the show. Katie Keogh and Humphrey were Reserve, having previously won the Barrett’s Land Rover Riding Pony

Championship and the Jacksons’ Fencing Novice Dressage Championship. Hannah Naylor said: “I competed with my pure bred Connemara mare, Derry Mist. I purchased Derry Mist directly from her breeder, Ms Trudi Deja, in Kent and have broken her in to ride and schooled and produced her myself. We qualified for this Championship show at Blue Barn Equestrian Centre. We had a great show that I will never forget. Huge thanks to Colette Walker, all the sponsors of the show and her team for a memorable day. I still can’t believe we did so well and won so many lovely rosettes, sashes and a massive trophy too! I look forward to competing in Colette’s future shows.” This year the in-hand classes proved particularly popular with the Coloured class and the Gelding, Colt and Stallion class receiving so many entries they had to be spilt several ways in the ring to enable them to be judged. The Reserve Champion for the afternoon section of classes was Jock Sporran (a Highland X who is 24-years-old). His owner, Kelly Hughes, said: “This was the first

show I ever done with him and I couldn’t believe what we won. I never thought he would do anything like this. As I walked him home, he was doing his fancy walk and trot all the way, I was amazed and couldn’t believe it, and every time I think of him and winning, it always brings a tear to my eyes.” The event is held annually and run by Colette Walker (Colette’s Horse & Dog Shows) who runs shows throughout the year at various venues. It strives to create a friendly, family orientated show where everyone wins a rosette in every class. The show also includes a small shopping village with various trade stands and charities in attendance. The Fun Dog Show also proved popular. It is primarily aimed at family pets but there are also classes for pedigree show dogs. The organisers ensure every dog receives a rosette in every class with the winner of each class going through to a supreme championship at the end of the day. Colette said ‘I would like to thank all the judges, stewards, helpers, sponsors and of course everyone who attended the show.

Kelly Hughes and Jock Sporrin, with their friend. We were delighted to see the event so well supported this year and the kind comments we have received following the event have been really nice.’ www.cbequine.co.uk december 2014 / january 2015 Localrider 53
