ORLY Epix Nail Polish
Wears like a gel. Removes like a polish.
ORLY has done it again! They have brought us nail polish innovation. For those of you who use gel nail polish, this may just be a blessing. There is a simple two-step system. Apply the colour and then apply the sealcoat. There’s no need for lamps or tedious removal sessions. This is just regular nail polish that acts like gel. It is fast-drying, long-wearing, and has high-shine. @thisisusng

A L ve Letter to my Eyebrows A few years ago, a producer at Ebony Life Network asked if I’d be interested in auditioning for the part of a middle-aged Indian woman on Ojo’s in D’House, a Nigerian sitcom. I responded right away to express my profound disinterest, explaining: 1. I am very short. 2. Even though I am Indian, most people don’t think I look Indian. 3. I’m a terrible actor. Unfortunately, my family peer-pressured me into auditioning for the role because they are determined I embrace new opportunities. I got the part of a forgetful hairdresser on a TV show that has been postponed since 2015. We came within days of shooting, however. We were so close that the network sent me an employment contract. My cousin works in film so I asked him to review the document before I signed it. Himesh highlighted several issues, asking about the quality of the accommodations, the intensity of the work schedule, and why they only planned to feed me twice a day. He raised important points but there was only one thing I planned to negotiate. My eyebrows. I wanted to add a clause to my contract that Ebony Life never touch my beautiful, beloved eyebrows.
lostinlagosmagazine
We all have our beauty hang-ups. I could list a hundred women I’ve known and the parts of their body they despise. People hate their droopy necks. They hate that little pouch of fat that spills out of their armpit. They can’t stand the colour of their eyes or the way their giant bunions prevent them from wearing flip-flops. But if we’re lucky, we also have special features that fill us with pride. For me, I am gleeful about my eyebrows. I don’t know what would happen if I stopped plucking, shaping, and coddling my eyebrows but I suspect they would knit together and look like a millipede lying across my forehead. I realised I was hairy when I was twelve. My mother came home from Sears, announcing she had bought me a present. I was thrilled! When I peeked into the bag, my excitement changed to confusion. It was a home electrolysis kit. My mum, who is not the least bit hairy, tried to sell me on the experience. “You slide the needle into your pore, administer an electric shock, and the hair falls right out. Over time, the hair stops growing.” “Seems painful,” I said, fingering the box.
My older brother came to my rescue. “I bet it’s nothing,” he said. “I’ll try first so you can see it doesn’t hurt.” He plugged in the device, stuck the needle into a follicle on his cheek, and zapped himself. My mother and I watched him roar in pain. A single tear spilled from his eye. Then he packed the machine back into the box and threw it in the trash. Thus began the era of my life where I was acutely aware of my body hair but unequipped to manage it. I tried to shave between my eyebrows and ended up slicing one of them in half. I left hair removal cream on beyond the recommended time limit and the burns that resulted looked like lunar craters. I trimmed my arm hair with scissors and cut off a hunk of flesh. I bleached my facial hair and dyed it a brassy shade of gold by accident. I endured a burning-hot lip wax that left me with a long black scab shaped like a movie villain’s moustache. Over time, I made slow progress and refined my beauty techniques. After years of diligent visits to a licensed electrologist, my resemblance to a nineteenth century British sea captain—picture sideburns like mutton chops—faded from memory. And an Internet coupon for five dermatologist-performed laser treatments meant my lip hair disappeared
By the point my children were born, I had achieved a magical transformation. If my daughters were furry and wondered why, I planned to shake my head and whisper, “It must be from your father’s side of the family.” I love my eyebrows because they’re prettier than they have any business being. Fashion and beauty means taking your flawed self and maximizing your potential. When harnessed appropriately, it’s empowering. Looking and feeling your best is something to strive for. It requires commitment, the ability to learn from mistakes, and on rare occasions, peculiar contractual negotiations with television networks. The boost to your confidence makes it all worthwhile.

CRAFT GOURMET There is a subtle elegance to Craft Gourmet. The open kitchen bistro, owned by the husband and wife team of Tarek and Lou Baker, is welcoming, stylish, graceful and warm. The elegance emanates from its neutral tones, immaculate uniforms, sleek design and most importantly, its unpretentious food. There is a seamless flow between the space, the staff and the food, a beautiful symphony that begs you to stay a bit longer. The light flows from everywhere, including the open plan kitchen where the staff work in perfect harmony, a harmony orchestrated by the heart and soul of Craft Gourmet, Lou Baker, herself. Lou Baker has brought the memories of her mother’s homemade cooking to Craft Gourmet, many of its dishes coming from secret recipes that made Lou’s childhood so special. Although the food comes from the heart, her experience comes from the top hospitality school, Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne. Craft Gourmet is unexpectedly situated on the third floor of Mega Plaza, with windows spanning the restaurant pouring in lots of sunlight. The details are visible everywhere, from the coasters and little branded flags on the sandwiches to the juice carafes and little spoons made especially to scoop up creamy cappuccino foam.
Everything at Craft Gourmet is lovingly handcrafted: the complimentary sweet potato chips that are served before the meal, the homemade yogurt in the Strawberry Granola Parfait, the mayonnaise that is in the sandwiches and the hand-cut french fries. Nothing is left to chance. Every meal leaves you with a lasting impression whether it’s their popular brunch of Chicken and Waffles or their romantic candlelit dinner of a shared melt-in-your-mouth, 7-Hour Leg of Lamb. The leg of lamb is marinated for 24 hours and slow-cooked for 7 hours to create perfect tenderness without losing any juiciness. Another of Lou’s mother’s recipes, the 7-Hour Leg of Lamb is served at the table, carved just for you, and accompanied by roasted vegetables. When the sun goes down, the mood at Craft Gourmet transforms. The blinds are lowered and the lights turned off, so a dim glow comes from flickering candles on the tables. Get lost in a bottle of specially selected wine and a plate of fresh Calamari and Prawns Pasta. Any time of day is suitable for Craft Gourmet. A vegan Healthy Bowl of smoothie topped with colourful fresh fruit, nuts, and muesli, a not-so-guilty pleasure, is a sure way to start your morning right. Grab a healthy lunch of Fresh Strawberry and Feta Cheese Salad with homemade honey pomegranate dressing and shaved almonds, nicely complimented by a starter of Spicy Shrimps. The Spicy Shrimps, although simply marinated with chilli and herbs, are perfectly paired with a vibrant green, crispy garlic bread, a nice balance of spices.
The Chicken Pesto Sandwich, one among their many sandwich offerings, is deliciously satisfying. The sandwich is made with artisan ciabatta bread, a homemade pesto sauce that generously coats the chicken, sweet and tangy sundried tomatoes, honey balsamic dressing, and fresh rocket. Their freshly made juices, featuring a variety of fruits and vegetables, are smartly presented in your very own carafe, adding lovely, vibrant colours to your table. But no meal is complete without a touch of sweetness. Each of the desserts is carefully conceived and prepared with as much love as all the other dishes on the menu. The Strawberry Parfait, made with homemade miniature meringues, homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries is a deconstructed Eton Mess beautifully presented in its own glass cup and dome. But you don’t need to eat an entire meal to enjoy a little sweetness during your day. Stop by at tea time for a cup of Kusmi tea, a Lavazza cappuccino or a handpicked rose flower tea with a generous slice of Mum’s Cake. It’s a favourite of Lou’s, another of her mother’s recipes, made with chunks of dark chocolate. Craft Gourmet is an experience you share with friends, with family and with colleagues. It’s a place you celebrate a birthday, propose to the love of your life and show off a new baby. It’s where you meet for brunch, where you take a break for lunch or grab a cozy dinner. Craft Gourmet by Lou Baker is a sanctuary in the heart of a city of chaos, so why not just stay a bit longer? Fashion and Beauty An Interview with Yegwa Ukpo Co-founder of Stranger Lagos
Could you tell us a little bit about what yourself? I am a fashion consultant, retailer, and exhibition designer. I co-founded Stranger, a concept store that focuses on fashion, stationery and lifestyle items. It is also a cafe and co-working space. I worked with Lagos Fashion & Design Week and the British Council on an international fashion showcase as a curator and I recently curated an exhibition for a Nigerian fashion brand at African Artists’ Foundation. I am also a buying consultant for menswear at Alara. Share with us briefly how you ventured into this industry? I was working in design and branding for about six years and started getting restless. The kind of clothes and designers I was interested in at the time were not available in Nigeria so I decided to create a space where others could have access to those kinds of clothes and brands. At the same time I wanted to build a community. That is why my wife and I decided to start a cafe as part of the retail experience.
What do you think should be in every gentleman’s closet/wardrobe in terms of fashion and why? A shirt may be used for church, a wedding, a funeral, work, or even just going on a date. And socks! You need to have some socks, whether they are dress socks or sports socks. No one likes smelly shoes. Who inspires you and how? Yohji Yamamoto and Bjork come to mind. I am also inspired by quite a few brands and designers that you can find online. For example, there is a good friend of mine who runs a materials consultancy called Matter. She has a brilliant knowledge of materials and approaches things from a systems-thinking perspective.
How do you stay updated on the current trends and do they matter in Nigeria? Nigeria is a step or two behind global trends because we do not have ease of access to the clothing and shops. Also trends key into a harmful consumerist mindset where you just buy and throw away. However, I think Nigeria is very trend driven, not just with fashion, but with, for example, the type of phone you have or the car you drive. It is important that we have an alternative to this.
What is the reception of men's fashion in Lagos and what are you trying to do with men’s fashion? There is a misconception that men are not supposed to be interested in fashion because If you are it means you are not serious. But Nigerian men like looking good. So they want to look good but seem like they have not put too much effort into looking good. On the flip side, we use brands to signal access to wealth and luxury so people buy brands that are very showy.
If I say men's fashion and Lagos, what comes to mind? Slim fit traditional outfits and skinny jeans. Fashionable men tend to express themselves by having very tailored clothing.
I am trying to move the perception of menswear away from fashion to more design, aesthetics and taste. I want to shift menswear into more of a lifestyle thing and showcase how fashion is culturally relevant, not just a way of signalling your wealth or being frivolous. How important are fashion weeks? They are the major platform where designers all over the world showcase their work. However, the runway shows are losing importance. Fashion weeks will remain but the format in which people present their clothing will change. A lot of designers are moving towards a format that allows people to really look and feel the clothing as opposed to having models flash by you. What are your plans for the future? I would like to come up with a new retail model, be more sustainable, build a community and enhance local development. We will carry independent designers at Stranger and build a closer relationship with brands that we really believe in so that we can provide customers with lower prices and still give the designer something they can live on.
I want Stranger to be a place where designers can come to try out ideas and connect with other parts of the fashion industry. We are aiming to not just link people but to help elevate all aspects of design and production.

FIND YOUR STYLE with NAYONDE
You are most confident when you know and accept yourself. Yes, I had to let y'all know that first because it’s essential to truly finding your style and sticking with it. Some people believe you can tell a person's character by the way he or she dresses. I think it’s true. The way you dress sheds light on your personality. It's called ‘personal style’ for a reason. I am not a fashion guru, just a fashion enthusiast on a self-discovery journey. I wasn't always this confident with my sense of style. Sometimes when I wanted to dress a certain way, I would look in the mirror and feel it was too much. If I decided to go out anyway, people would stare. I would grow self conscious and find myself ditching my hat or removing certain items to tone down my entire look. That has to be one reason why I became a style blogger. I want to show the world who I am and help others do the same. Don't drown in the fashion. Make your style the fashion.
A few tips to help you find your style? 6. Shop Smarter Now that you've decluttered, it's time to shop smarter. Here are a few factors to consider when shopping.
1. Understand Your Body Please figure out your body type before you start your personal style journey. It’s important to understand what works for you. If you skip this step, when you think you finally have discovered your style, you might be buying all the wrong outfits for your body type. The major body shapes are apple, rectangle, hourglass and inverted triangle. If you need help figuring it out, use a body shape calculator online. 2. Know Your Personality Do you know that personality helps define your style? Okay, now you know. Write down some words that describe your personality. Do you feel your style reflects your inner qualities?
Make sure your wardrobe contains all the necessary basics for your style. Basics could include a white button-down shirt, black trousers, etc.
3. Find Your Inspiration It's time to seek inspiration. This is one reason I love social media, particularly Pinterest. It allows you to create a mood board and search amidst a wide range of style icons. The more you save to your board, the more you realise the particular style icon you're drawn to. Voila, you have found your style spirit animal whom you can look to for inspiration.
Yes, you want your style to reflect your personality, but remember it has to make sense in your overall lifestyle, e.g., in your field of work, the city you live in, etc. Do not buy clothing that does not fit you properly just because it’s selling at a rock bottom price.
4. Time to Clean Out and Add a Bit of Fresh Air You have to be honest with this step. Which outfits in your closet do you really like? Which ones have you not worn for a long time? Write down what didn’t work. They may be great pieces but if they don’t accentuate your body type, you will not look stylish in them. 5. Choose a Signature Piece Kim Kardashian is known for her tight dresses. Victoria Beckham is famous for her over-sized outfits and Khloe Kardashian loves bodysuits. Yes, every stylish woman owns a signature item that becomes part of her style persona. Find yours.
Body size doesn't matter when it comes to style. With confidence, you can look good in anything. Now wear your confidence and strut your stuff!

HASSELBACK POTATOES & MARSALA CHICKEN
MARSALA CHICKEN (serves 2) INGREDIENTS 2 chicken breasts (boneless & skinless) 1 cup flour Freshly ground black pepper, as required 1 teaspoon of salt 4 tablespoons ghee 2 cups fresh mushrooms (sliced) 3 cloves of garlic (finely chopped) 2 teaspoons dry chili flakes (optional) 1 cup sweet white wine
HASSELBACK POTATOES (serves 2) INGREDIENTS 4 medium potatoes, scrubbed under running water (leave skin on) 4 cloves of garlic (thinly sliced) 4 tablespoons ghee salt and freshly ground black pepper, as required fresh rosemary, thyme and parsley (optional)
DIRECTIONS Rinse the chicken. Pat the breasts dry between two paper towels. With a kitchen mallet or rolling pin, flatten them between sheets of plastic wrap until about ¼ inch thick.
Heat the ghee in a pan over medium heat. Cook the chicken breasts for about 2 minutes on each side, until lightly browned. Then add mushrooms, garlic and chili to the skillet.
Combine flour, black pepper and a teaspoon of salt in a mixing bowl. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour, shaking off any excess.
Finally add the wine to the pan, cover and simmer for about 15 minutes. The sauce will thicken slightly. Serve hot.
DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 200°C (Gas mark 6). Line a rimmed baking dish with foil and set aside. Place a potato in the bowl of a cooking spoon. Starting at one end, slice down until the knife reaches the rim of the spoon. This ensures you don't slice all the way through the potato and only make a series of slits. Repeat the slices at 1/8 to 1/4 inch intervals until you reach the other end of the potato. Perform this step for the remaining potatoes.
Transfer the potatoes to the baking dish and tuck thin pieces of garlic into the potato “fans” about every third slice or so. Spread a tablespoon of ghee on each potato. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Scatter a few sprigs rosemary and thyme in the dish around the potatoes. Pop the baking dish into the oven and bake for about 40 minutes to 1 hour, or until the potatoes are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Serve hot and garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
Note: You may use butter or vegetable oil as a substitute for ghee.

Yes, I know! Natural hair can be a lot of work: the combing sessions, the dryness, the not knowing how to style it. But with a few simple tips and a lot of practise, you could be well on your way to the natural crown you’ve always dreamed of! Moisture is natural hair’s best friend! The best way to get moisture is from water itself, so make sure you are wetting your hair every 7-10 days. However: Washing does not always mean shampooing! Most commercial shampoos contain ingredients that strip our hair of natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. Go for sulphate-free shampoos that contain ingredients you can pronounce. Also try ‘cowashing’ which means washing with a conditioner instead of a shampoo. Learn the difference between moisturising and sealing. Moisturise FIRST with a water-based product and THEN seal in the moisture with an oil, butter or oil-based product! Limit your use of products with silicones (‘cones) in them. These are ingredients which end in ‘one, ‘xane, or ‘onol. They tend to build-up in hair, requiring a sulphate shampoo to strip them out. Avoid anything containing mineral oil/paraffinum liquidum/petroleum. This coats the hair shaft and prevents moisture from entering, leaving our strands dry and brittle. It also attracts dirt and dust to the hair, leaving it dull and lackluster. It also causes build up which requires sulphates to remove. It’s a vicious circle! Deep condition every wash if possible. If you feel your hair needs an additional boost, add honey, olive oil, shea butter or any other natural oil to your conditioner. Go the additional step and give yourself a steam treatment for extra moisture. lostinlagosmagazine
Natural Hair 101
Limit your relationship with heat! There are several ways to stretch out your hair before styling without using a blow dryer: twists, braids, even good old fashion African threading. Never comb hair in its dry state. The best method of combing hair is when wet or damp and loaded with conditioner. Try protective styling. Wear your hair in twists, braids, buns, or any method to keep your precious ends tucked away to prevent unnecessary damage. Of course, you can wear your hair loose sometimes, but keep this to a minimum. Keep hair moisturized between washes. A little leave-in conditioner in a spray bottle with purified water and some oil (e.g., castor) goes a long way! Always sleep with a satin scarf or bonnet, or on a satin pillowcase. Cotton draws the moisture out of your hair. Don’t get overwhelmed with picking products. Remember you just need one thing from each of the following categories: Cleanser (e.g., a shampoo or cowash) Conditioner (deep or rinse-out conditioner) Moisturiser (a leave-in conditioner or moisturising cream) Sealant (your oil-based products) Styler (gels, puddings, curl creams, etc) For the best natural hair regimen, avoid skipping any steps, however remember that some products have multiple functions. So you might find one miracle product that works great as a cleanser, conditioner AND moisturiser. I can recommend several! Have fun experimenting, but when you find products your hair loves, stick to them. Finally, relax and enjoy your gorgeous natural hair! Everybody’s is different, but it is ALL beautiful! www.kinkyapothecary.com

FASHION ON SOCIAL MEDIA

There are two kinds of people in life. There are the leaders who are pioneers and risk takers and there are those who follow behind cheering or learning from the former. This is also the perfect way to describe the fashion scene in Lagos. Social media has become the go-to place for news and inspiration in our era. It is evident that style and culture is being curated and defined by a handful of individuals who stand out from the sea of Instagram accounts, aviary of tweets, and endless Tumblr rolls. Showcasing individual style and aesthetics with eye-catching and striking images, these trailblazers are single-handedly using their respective platforms to redefine style and trends in this part of the world:

Orchid Bistro Express I remember the first time I went to Orchid Bistro Express. My friends and I had gotten wind that the popular restaurant in the Mainland had opened a branch in Ikoyi and we set off to try it out.
Tucked behind a home decor store, it took us a moment to locate the restaurant but once we did, we found that it commanded its space. It’s a simple, stylish, cool and modern setting that is named for what it is: a bistro. They’ve got lots of fun fixtures and huge display windows that let in a lot of light. They’ve decorated with muted, earthy tones, plants, and light-coloured furniture to give it a fresh, urban but homey feel. Now when my friends and I pull up and walk straight towards the entrance of this hidden gem, we feel like members of a secret club. On the day of my review, I arrived to my friend already chomping away at her customised club sandwich and fries. I was thirsty and asked for a sip of her drink the moment I sat down. It was so refreshing that I automatically wanted one for myself.
lostinlagosmagazine
She told me it was a ginger ale and we placed an order with the friendly waiter.
My ginger ale arrived and it reminded me of science class because the liquid in the glass was separated. The waiter gave instructions to, “Sip before you stir,” as a warning to test the beverage before you commit. They say it was an ale but it tasted more like ginger beer. Although I suspect I could recreate the flavours with a simple mix of Sprite and blended ginger, it was still incredibly satisfying. The menu was not extensive. For a starter, we shared the mozzarella cheese sticks with a dipping sauce. The sticks were rustic and of a sizeable portion. They came out crisp on the outside and soft, stringy and chewy on the inside. The dipping sauce, however, was a sweet vinaigrette and fresh chilli sauce blend. It didn’t pair well with the sticks so I refrained from using the condiment. I felt like having a hearty meaty dish so I chose the rack of barbeque ribs with fries and vegetables. Orchid Bistro took ‘fall off the bone’ to a new level. The ribs were so soft and overcooked, they had a mushy consistency. Although the zucchini and carrots were oily, they had a nice crunch. The fries were perfect.
At this point, we were stuffed so we decided to share a dessert. I peeped the desserts in the display fridge and the apple crumble looked good so we ordered that with custard. It came out quickly and the custard was very hot, thick and sweet. The individual-portioned crumble was burrowed in the middle of the custard. It was a triple layered crumble with a gooey apple filling. Because it was a bit soggy, it was difficult to tell what the different layers of crumble were meant to be.
Although some dishes disappointed on the day of my review, from past visits I know that the terrific food, decor and exclusive feel of this restaurant make Orchid Bistro Express worth a visit. 40b Raymond Njoku Street, Ikoyi, Lagos t: 08084568824

written by Zainab Ashadu Founder and Creative Director, Zashadu
When it comes to accessorising, I believe that there are two camps. The first are women who wear their accessories as the main course. Think style icon, Iris Apfel, as an extreme example of this. The second are women who believe less is more like Angelina Jolie. I’m of the less is more camp. Don’t get me wrong, I love showstopping glamour, and I’m not averse to some over-the-topness for maximum impact. For me, however, accessorising begins with what I already have: my skin, my hair, my nails, my features, and my makeup. By the time it comes to choosing external accessories, I’m selective and careful to maintain balance. It is important to identify your accessorising style within your camp and invest smartly in classic key pieces. My go-to accessories are jewellery, shoes, and handbags, of course. Sometimes I’ll play around with silk scarves and feel silly, but when I look back at photos, it always looks beautiful. Similarly I’m not fond of hats, but I don’t mind simple vintage skull caps or minimal fascinators. They add polish and character to my textured hair.
Here’s a list of my 10 accessorising tips:
1. Black isn’t the only colour that
goes with everything. Metallic bags and shoes are the perfect neutral, as are many hues of green and brown.
Don’t be afraid to explore. 2.
A tiny little thing can throw off a look or achieve balance. I rarely wear black shoes or handbags because I find black severe, but I recently discovered that black pointy toe mules are the perfect accessory to balance out my current salt and pepper braids.
Experiment and keep an open mind. 3. Spend money on well-made,
beautifully constructed shoes and handbags. If you treat them right, they’ll last you decades.
lostinlagosmagazine
Real Life Accessorising 4. Good quality costume jewellery is better than cheap and cheerful and will blend seamlessly with delicate, timeless pieces.
5. Allow trends to guide and not dictate your exploration.
6. Take advantage of Nigerian-made leather shoes and bags that are hand-crafted like the old Italian masters. There are lots of new brands and designers working with Nigerian artisans and sourcing leather right here on our soil. The quality is second to none, yet significantly less costly than artisans doing the same thing abroad.
7. Don’t force yourself to be
something you're not. If you have a million gold bags, there’s a reason you’re drawn to gold. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Just enjoy it. Perhaps explore scale instead of colour.
8. Seek comfort and understand
your own body. I’m 5’11 with broad shoulders so cutesy accessories rarely look good on me. Similarly, I notice that sometimes I can wear 5 inch skinny heels more comfortably than 2 inch block heels. The difference is the placement of the heel in relation to the position of my natural arch. If it doesn't feel comfortable or fit you like a glove, move on.
9. The accessory people remember most about you is your attitude. Kindness, politeness and a joyous spirit will not only highlight your beauty but have the power to illuminate others, too. Be generous with them.
10. Ultimately, enjoy yourself. To
quote my style opposite, Iris Apfel,
“It is better to be happy than well dressed!” www.zashadu.com

Fashion and Beauty written by Olamide Udoma-Ejorh
This Season’s Fashion Do’s and Don’ts We can’t follow the trends for Autumn/Winter 2017 because we live in the Southern Hemisphere so why not prep for Spring/Summer 2018 instead? Lost in Lagos has pored over the SS18 shows, checked out local designers and come up with fashion tips so you can stay ahead of the curve.
Women Do wear ruffles. Ruffle skirts or tops are ideal statement pieces that can make you stand out. Ruffles are romantic and whimsical and will give any outfit a playful twist. Do try statement earrings. Whether your outfit is simple or showstopping, statement earrings will add some pop. Try something with baubles or tassels to draw some attention to your accessories. Do buy local. In the past two to three years, international designers and brands have been heavily influenced by ‘African’ fashion. With the rise in locally made clothes, accessories and beauty products, there is no need to get the influenced brands. Why not just buy the real thing? At times it may be cheaper but even when it isn’t, splurge a little because the design is great, you will be wearing something unique, and you will be supporting a local business.
Don’t show too much skin. We love sheer. We love off the ‘cold shoulder’ and we love lace but don’t take it too far. There is a line between trendy and tasteless when it comes to wearing transparent styles. Choose styles that focus on bareness in one area and utilise coverups where needed, like a light blazer or cardigan. Don’t wear painful shoes. Women are gravitating away from painful footwear and choosing shoes that won't cramp their toes or their style. You can still wear sexy and beautiful shoes that are comfortable and don’t ruin your posture. It has been exciting to see the block heel trend and we look forward to more comfort-driven shoe styles.
Men Do mix tailoring with sportswear. During Milan Fashion week, suits, blazers, and tailored trousers were combined with bombers, track bottoms, hoodies, Aloha shirts, and more. It is obvious the Athleisure trend isn’t going anywhere soon.
Don’t rock a male romper. We are not sure where this trend came from, but it should be shelved now. The male romper is not flattering and may even bruise your ego. Onsies may be acceptable as sleepwear over the Christmas holidays or under skiwear but not for heading out to a bar or the beach.
Do wear shorts. Having appeared in the shows of Dior Homme, Dries Van Noten, and Louis Vuitton, shorts will continue to be a stylish staple. If you’re unsure how short you want to go and are a bit daring, why not try a pair way above the knee and show off those legs?
Don’t wear sandals with socks. Sandals should never be worn with socks! This is an unnecessary pairing and it does not look good on anyone. .
Do flash some ankle when you can. This does not mean cropped trousers. When you want to show off some great loafers and you are not in a three piece suit, try trousers that end just above your ankle bone. This length is timeless, looks great and adds a casual quality even if you are wearing tailored trousers. Don’t forget, there’s no need for socks.

Being a Well Groomed Man
It’s becoming more accepted and expected for all men to take better care of their overall appearance. This includes everything from the top of your head to the soles of your feet! The trick is to develop a daily routine that is quick and simple. Many people believe ordinary things done consistently produce extraordinary results. The same is true for a man’s appearance.
These 8 grooming tips will get you looking your best whilst trying to save the world and still be a ‘macho’ man. Brush & Floss “That guy’s bad breath is awesome’,” said no one ever! Dental hygiene is imperative to being a perfectly groomed man since you have to talk to people. Rinse your mouth often throughout the day, especially after a meal to keep your breath fresh.
Visit your barber Salon trips are essential to keeping your look sharp and well-groomed but don’t stop at a haircut. Tame your feet by getting a pedicure. While you’re at it, get a manicure and a facial. Okay, maybe a facial is over the top but the benefit of having all those layered dead skin cells lifted off your face is not only great for your pores, it’s also relaxing and will leave you looking fresh.
lostinlagosmagazine
Shower daily This is a non-negotiable grooming rule. Preferably shower twice! If you wash off the day’s sweat and dust with an evening shower, too, you’ll feel better and refreshed. Moisturize Ashy skin is so out! Having dry, flaky-looking skin is unattractive. Invest in a good moisturizer and use it after showering to seal moisture into your skin.
Shave like an expert Not shaving properly can cause unnecessary damage to your skin. Get a closer, cleaner look by shaving in the natural direction your hair follicle grows. This ensures a smooth feel and reduces your chance of nicks, cuts and awful razor bumps. A good aftershave, like one that contains ingredients such as Aloe Vera, will help soothe the skin after a shave. And guys, less is more. No one wants to be knocked out by the overpowering scent of your aftershave.
Groom your beard Since learning that bearded gentlemen get 10 times more looks from the ladies, you decided to ditch the razor. But now you’re stumped on how to get rid of the itchiness and dry flakes on your face. No one told you this would happen! If you ever want a chance at giving Santa Claus or Rick Ross a run for their money, beard maintenance is key. Your beard needs tender, loving care. Wash, moisturise, trim and brush it. Invest in beard care products that are free of nasties and packed with natural ingredients like nourishing oils. Apply beard oil immediately after you shower to get the most benefits. Opt for products naturally scented with essential oils for major beard envy.
Groom your hair, all of it Wash, condition and trim hair regularly. That includes your nose, ear and below Have a signature scent the belt hairs. Trust me, Rather than owning 8-10 everyone sees what’s average quality bottles you dangling out of your nose. pick from at random, find Manscaping below the belt one or two classic scents helps take care of odour you really like and invest in issues. After all, you’ve got them. 9 Step 1: You should always start with a clean base. Applying a primer allows the makeup to stay longer and makes it easier to blend the eyeshadows. Use a concealer under the eyes and on the eyelids to even out any discoloration. Step 2: Pack on black eyeshadow to the outer corner and into the crease. Step 3: Blend out the eyeshadow, so there aren’t any harsh lines.
lostinlagos
10 Step 4: If you feel that it needs more intensity you can pack on more color. Step 5: Apply a gel or pencil liner as close as you can to the lashline. Step 6: Smudge it out and blend it with the existing black eye shadow. Step 7: If you want to create an intense look, you can even take the eyeliner in the crease and deepen it. Make sure to blend it out well.
Step 8: Take the liner under the eyes. Step 9: Smudge it out to create the smokey effect. Step 10: It’s time for the finishing touches. Apply your favourite volumising mascara, and you’re good to go!
