Director’s Notes When I was growing up in California, my introduction to this story was through the musical Scrooge. I was 7 years old, and I played Tiny Tim. I had no idea what the story was about or that it was a holiday tradition. I only knew that a grumpy old man somehow became happy. Three decades later and in a new role as director, I find there is a lot more to this classic Victorian ghost story. What this story and many of Dickens’ other works are about is our collective humanity. Dickens himself was a rags-to-riches story and wanted his fellow Victorians to celebrate mankind and be charitable to those in need. Dickens was a big proponent of embracing the community around you, and we have also done that here with this production. While every member of this production is extremely talented, no single person could tell this story. Each member of our cast, crew and production team has brought their creativity, generosity and unique enthusiasm to this classic holiday tradition. We can tell this story effectively only when we come together. This community also includes you, our audience. Thank you for joining us. We are all in this together, and everyone is worthy of redemption and community. I hope that you take Dickens’ message and a song in your heart with you wherever you go. I wish you a happy, merry and bright holiday season. Jonathan Mulberg Director In case of an emergency, LTA has three AEDs (automated external defibrillators) They are located as follows: 1. in the lobby, near the Council Green Room 2. in the cast entrance hallway, near backstage door 3. in the Alexandria Academy, on the first floor

Meet the Crew

Meet the Crew

Mary Beth Smith-Toomey (Co-Producer) is very happy to be producing A Christmas Carol 2023, especially with her friend sheri! She produced her first show at LTA in 1977 and has produced more than 45 shows including this one. Mary Beth loves producing and has a few LTA and WATCH awards to show for it. What she really loves is the feeling of family that theatre brings. Each show, including this one, creates its own family, and she feels privileged to be part of it! Break Legs to all her wonderful cast, staff and crew! Much love to Kim, Mike and Wesley. Natalie Turkevich (Hair/Makeup Design) is a recent West Virginia University graduate with a B.A. in theatre. Some of her favorite shows she has worked on include Airness (WVU), Assassins (WVU), Freaky Friday (LTA) and Young Frankenstein (LTA). She hopes you sit back, relax and enjoy the show! Mona Wargo (Set Painting) has volunteered in the DMV theater community for many years. She has painted sets for DS, FP (now CCDC) and ACCT. She joined LTA during the 2015-16 season and has since become a WATCH and three-time LTA award winner. She continues teaching painting at LTA, as well as leading crew and working on various shows. She wishes to thank all her painting volunteers, seasoned and newbies, for their time and skills on this show! Robin Worthington (Wardrobe Coordinator) is delighted to work with a wonderful crew to dress the cast of A Christmas Carol. Co-Chair of LTA’s Wardrobe Committee, Robin has been a wardrobe mistress, assisting challenging quick changes behind the scenes for LTA plays, and has worked with local costumers to dress actors in many theaters and schools since 2015, most recently LTA’s Young Frankenstein. A Ph.D. in Biology, she is retired from implementing FDA international food safety initiatives, teaching in universities and high schools, assisting personal injury legal cases and organizing international scientific conferences. Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and holiday season!
