Dir ector ’s Notes
Summertime is t he season for light hearted fun, such as going on family vacations, making weekend escapes to t he beach, attending county fairs, or visiting amusement and water parks, among ot her escapist activities. Legally Blonde: The Musical embodies such escapist entertainment. Filled wit h fun characters, catchy tunes t hat make you want to move in your seat, and an updated MGM musical plotline girl loves boy, girl loses boy, girl goes to Harvard Law School to win him back Legally Blonde is as fun and sugary as cotton candy on a paper cone. However, what I enjoy most about t his musical are t he savory surprises hidden inside t he airy spun sugar. Simple lessons but important ones nonet heless about not judging a book by its cover, t he significance of living up to one ’ s potential, and t he importance of integrity, standing by one ’ s word, and keeping anot her person ’ s trust. Elle Woods overcomes ot her people’s perception t hat she is not hing more t han a fun-loving, Malibu-Barbie sorority girl and shows t hem t hat und e rn e a t h , s h e is a w o m a n
interminable optimism. She learns how to overcome roadblocks preventing her from living up to her full potential Finally, she shows us t hat you do not have to compromise your integrity to get ahead It just requires a little extra effort These t hought-provoking moments perfectly complement t his sweet, summertime confection I hope you enjoy bot h

Welcome to t he “Shakespeare Garden” in The Little Theatre of Alexandria Courtyard! The Council of The Little Theatre of Alexandria, organized in 1961, is a dedicated group of about 80 members t hat supports t he t heatre wit h special contributions While our “Shakespeare Garden” is our most massive accomplishment so far, our past contributions included: scholarships for high school students, a new range, draperies and ice maker for t he Council Green Room, folding chairs and tables t hroughout t he t heatre, brass plates for sponsored t heatre seats, a computerized box office system, several grand drapes over t he years, and many varied technical enhancements, including exterior defibrillators (AEDs) for safety. Contributions to LTA from t he Council have exceeded $215,000 The Council conducts t hree business/social meetings per year, and decorates t he t heatre for t he winter holidays We are pleased to be a part of t he Alexandria artistic community and proud to support one of t he best community t heatres in America today!
