Macaronesia: Buenas Borja; rapidez, ecología, economía, durabilidad… ¿es todo esto posible a la vez? Borja: Por supuesto, basándonos en una forma de construcción que supera con creces al «bloque» convencional. En Modular Islands trabajamos con estructuras de madera, lo que hace nuestras construcciones más ecológicas y sostenibles y les aporta las calidades A y B, y recubrimos con placas de «Compoplak», un material similar al utilizado en la industria náutica, que garantiza un perfecto aislamiento térmico, hídrico y acústico, y que presenta una elevada resistencia estructural y al fuego. En relación al ámbito económico, nuestra forma de trabajar nos permite introducir unos descuentos de alrededor del 10% respecto a la construcción tradicional, para una misma calidad de materiales. M: ¿Y eso de que en dos meses puede uno estar viviendo en la casa de sus sueños…? B: Si ponemos como ejemplo una casa de unos 110m2, aseguramos que en dos meses tienes las llaves de tu casa y puedes estar viviendo en ella. M: Y respecto al diseño…; lo de modular suena a prefabricado, a que todo es igual, ¿es así? B: Para nada. Cada casa es única y diseñada especialmente para cada cliente, podemos realizar cualquier tipo de diseño que el cliente nos proponga. Además, tenemos dos gamas, la One y la Premium, y ofrecemos multitud de acabados diferentes para todos los gustos, y también opciones de sostenibilidad, como paneles solares, recogedores de agua de lluvia... Aparte de lo que hemos contado, en Modular Islands también ofrecemos servicios de reforma y rehabilitaciones, y algo importante a tener en cuenta es que, al pesar poco el material que usamos, facilita mucho la construcción hacia arriba, por lo que es ideal para hacer ampliaciones en vertical.

If we say that the house of your dreams can be completed in two months, with a cleaner, more sustainable and ecological building technique that uses materials of exceptional durability, and which can also be cheaper than a traditional building, you would surely think that we’re pulling your leg. That’s why we talked to Borja Villanueva, the manager of Modular Islands, who tells us about this type of construction that may seem science fiction, but which is a far more than tangible reality that has been carried out for a long time in the Peninsula, United States and many European countries. Macaronesia: Good afernoon, Borja; speed, ecology, economy, durability ... is all this possible at a time? Borja: Of course, based on a construction technique that far exceeds the conventional «block». M: Who makes up Modular Island and what supports your project? B: Modular Islands is a company that we have set up together with Juanjo Rodríguez (constructor) and Nicolas Rodríguez (architect), and is the headquarters in the Canary Islands of a company in the Peninsula called Modular Projects, which has 8 years of experience behind, with several projects already completed in the islands, such as the expansion of the geriatric hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and some private homes. Edad: 42 años Procedencia: Madrid (criado en Canarias). Reside en Fuerteventura desde hace 3 años.

En Gran Canaria empezó la relación inseparable de Marcos con el mar. Rondaba los 7 años cuando sus padres les regalaron el primer bodyboard, a su hermano Rubén y a él, y desde entonces el reclamo de las olas no ha dejado de llamarle, a pesar de las dificultades que la vida ha puesto en su camino. En 2012, cuando tenía 28 años, Marcos sufrió un accidente de moto que le dejó en silla de ruedas con una paraplejia irreversible, debido a la rotura de tres vértebras. Macaronesia: ¿Cómo cambia esto tu vida? Marcos: De manera radical… Ya no es sólo que no puedas caminar, sino que el mundo que has creado, por el que caminas, desaparece y tienes que empezar de nuevo. Fue como volver a nacer pero con 28 años. Empiezas a conocer tu cuerpo, a aprender a moverte, desenvolverte, valerte por ti mismo, desarrollarte y encontrar un nuevo camino. M: Y ¿en qué momento decides seguir para adelante con todo lo que te gustaba hacer en la vida? Marcos: Bueno, es algo que tuve claro en el mismo momento del accidente; enseguida me vi haciendo deporte en silla de ruedas. Fue muy reveladora la visión. Eso sí,

nunca pensé que volvería a surfear. Durante mucho tiempo tuve un sueño recurrente y repetitivo; soñaba que iba al agua en un día claro, glassy, con un metro de fuerza y que, por varios motivos, ya fuera por esperar a un amigo, quedarnos sin gasolina o cualquier contratiempo, se me hacía de noche y no podía tirarme... Seguro que este sueño lo ha tenido más de uno, ¿verdad? Ahora que he retomado el surf ya no lo he vuelto a tener. M: ¿Cómo es la tabla que utilizas para surfear? Marcos: Utilizo una tabla bastante peculiar. Muchos surfers ven la tabla antes que a mí y se extrañan mucho. Es gracioso ver las caras de incomprensión jajaja. Hay una pechera, que eleva mi cuerpo y hace que tenga una remada natural, ya que no tengo musculatura en la espalda para arquearme. Dos asideros o handstraps a cada lado y, por último, en el tail he puesto unas aletas que impiden que mis piernas se salgan cuando la espuma golpea en ellas. Tengo que recalcar que mi pato es deficiente o nulo a la hora de pasar la rompiente. En cuanto a la forma de la tabla estamos en evolución, intercambiando opiniones con Julián de Joyas que, gracias a sus conocimientos, ya me ha hecho una tabla bastante buena.

M: ¿Cómo es el mundo del surf para alguien con una discapacidad? Marcos: ¡Puf...! Duro, pero satisfactorio. Te ahoga, pero te llena los pulmones de aire limpio. Te asusta, pero te divierte. Te ensucias, pero te limpia. Te caes, pero flotas. Hostil, pero amigo. Te cansa, pero te llena de energía. Con muchas barreras, pero te hace libre. M: ¿Has encontrado muchos apoyos para llevar a cabo tus propósitos? Marcos: Desde luego, gracias a mi familia que ha sido mi gran pilar para salir adelante. Sin ellos no podría haber llegado donde estoy. Mi hermano Rubén, con el que di mis primeros pasos en el esquí. Mi novia Eva, que siempre me alienta, ayuda y empuja, tanto psicológicamente como físicamente. Y a diversas asociaciones y fundaciones, que dan un empujón importante a personas con discapacidad, tanto con material como con personas cualificadas. En el caso del surf, a Mariona, de Play and Train, y otras más en diferentes disciplinas deportivas. M: ¿Cuáles son tus objetivos en el mundo del surf? Marcos: Este año mi intención era presentarme a los mundiales, que se celebran en La Jolla, California, en diciembre; pero al parecer solo puede presentarse uno por categoría, y en este caso va el campeón de España, Álvaro Bayona. Yo no pude acudir por motivos médicos. Así que tendré que presentarme al campeonato Nacional del próximo año, para tener opciones al Mundial. De momento he estado en el sur de Francia y País Vasco, mi segunda residencia surfera, para adquirir experiencia y evolucionar con distintas olas, y en busca de algún patrocinio. M: ¿Qué otros deportes practicas, a parte del surf? Marcos: Empecé jugando al baloncesto, tenis y pádel. Son deportes que me gustan, pero no me apasionan.

Por los que siento devoción son los ligados a la naturaleza y espacios libres como el surf, el vuelo sin motor, soy un apasionado del buceo y no falto a la temporada de esquí. Otro objetivo que tengo es llegar a practicar Kite. He dado mis primeros pasos con Héctor de Fuerteventura Kite School, pero por circunstancias personales lo he dejado aparcado y lo retomaré en cuanto pueda. M: ¿Qué le dirías a personas que están en tu situación, a los que ni se les pasa por la cabeza el hacer algún deporte de este tipo? Marcos: Siempre está el tópico de que las barreras están en la cabeza. Es cierto, pero hay muchos deportes, como el surf, que las personas con discapacidad no saben si quiera que pueden realizar. Aprovecho la oportunidad que me dais para decir a personas en mi situación que se animen a realizar lo que ellos desean; que hay que ser valiente, porque valiente no es la persona que no tiene miedo, sino la que sabe vencerlo. La recompensa es muy grande. Y sobre todo quiero incentivar a los niños, hay que hacer cantera, porque en su caso los miedos suelen tenerlos los padres. Yo no prometo que no se vayan a dar un tortazo, se lo darán, pero se levantarán como otro niño cualquiera. M: Algo más que quieras decir... Sí, me gustaría decir a la gente que ve en nosotros un espíritu de superación, por hacer deportes que ven difíciles, llenos de barreras y complicaciones, que hay una superación más enterrada, menos visible, más oculta que toda persona con discapacidad tiene: la vida cotidiana. Me refiero a limpiar, barrer, cocinar, fregar, hacer la compra, etc., teniendo una vida feliz. Ahí reside la verdadera superación. Y, ¡hala, a vivir que son dos días!

M: And at what point do you decide to go forward with everything you like to do in life? Marcos: Well, it’s something that became clear at the very moment of the accident; I immediately saw myself exercising in my wheelchair. It was a very revealing view. Of course, I never thought I would surf again. For a long time I had a recurring dream; I dreamed I went to the water on a clear glassy day, with one meter of force and that, for various reasons, either waiting for a friend, running out of petrol or any mishap, it was getting dark and I could not get into the water ... Surely more than one person has had this dream, right? Now I’ve taken up surfing again I haven’t had it any more. M: How is the board that you use for surfing? Marcos: I use a rather peculiar board. Many surfers see the board before they can see me and this surprises them a lot. It’s funny to look at the shocked faces, ho ho. There is

a front that raises my body and makes it possible for me to have a natural rowing because I have no muscles in the back to bend it. Two handholds or hand straps on each side and, finally, on the tail I have placed some fins that prevent my legs from getting out when the foam hits them. I have to emphasize that my duck is poor or absent when going through the breakers. As for the shape of the board we are evolving, exchanging views with Julian de Joyas; thanks to his knowledge, he has already made me a pretty good board. M: How is the world of surfing for disable people? Marcos: Ugh ...! Hard but satisfying. It’s overwhelming, but it fills your lungs with fresh air. It scares you, but it’s amusing at a time; though it dirties it also cleans. You fall, but float. It is hostile, but also a friend. It makes you tired, but also full of energy. You find many obstacles, but it makes you free. M: Have you found a lot of support to carry out your purposes? Marcos: Of course, thanks to my family who has been my pillar to get ahead. Without them I couldn’t have got where I am. My brother Ruben, with whom I took my first steps in skiing. My girlfriend Eva, who always encourages, helps and pushes me both psychologically and physically. And various associations and foundations, which give an important boost to disable people, both with material and qualified persons. In the case of surfing, Mariona, from Play and Train, and some more in other sports. M: What are your goals in the world of surfing? Marcos: This year my intention was to participate in the world championship, held in La Jolla, California, in December; but apparently just one per category can take part, and in this case it will be the champion of Spain, Alvaro Bayona. I couldn’t attend for medical reasons. So I’ll have to go to the National Championship next year, to have any chance at the World Championship. So far I have been in the south of France and the Basque Country, my second

surfing home, to gain experience and evolve with different waves, and to look for some sponsorship. M: What other sports do you practise, besides surfing? Marcos: I started playing basketball, tennis and paddle. They are sports I like, but I’m not too passionate about them. The sports I really like are those which are connected with nature and open spaces such as surfing, gliding, I’m passionate about diving and don’t miss the ski season. Another goal I have is to practise Kite. I’ve taken my first steps with Hector, from Fuerteventura Kite School, but due to personal circumstances I’ve left it aside and I’ll resume it as soon as possible. M: What would you say to people who are in your situation and aren’t thinking about practising a sport like this? Marcos: There is always the cliché of «the hindrances are in your head». True, but there are many sports, such as surfing, that disabled people don’t even know they can practise. I take this chance you give me to encourage people in my situation to do what they really want; you have to be brave, because brave is not the person who is not afraid, but the one who knows how to beat fear. The reward is great. And above all I want to encourage children, we must make a team, because in their case it’s usually the parents who are afraid. I can’t promise they won’t ever fall, they will, but they’ll stand up again, like any other children. M: Anything else you want to say ... Yes, I would tell people who see in us a spirit of selfimprovement to practise sports they consider difficult, full of hindrances and difficulties, as there is a less visible and more buried spirit of improvement that every person with disabilities has: daily life. I mean cleaning, sweeping, cooking, washing, shopping, etc., having a happy life. Therein lies the true spirit of improvement. Come on! Life is but a fleeting moment!

El Archivo de Betancuria vuelve a Fuerteventura después de 84 años

Proyecto laboral «Quédate», para universitarios

Más de 27.000 euros para instalar paneles solares

Tras custodiar el Archivo de Betancuria desde 1932, el Museo Canario de Gran Canaria lo devolvió el pasado 19 de octubre, tras estos años en los que ha trabajado en los documentos, para corregir el proceso de deterioro de los mismos. El Archivo, conocido como «Archivo Judicial de Fuerteventura» o «Archivo de Betancuria», está compuesto por la documentación que crearon las antiguas instituciones de la isla, entre los siglos XVII y XIX.

El Cabildo y la Cámara de Comercio de Fuerteventura colaboran en la creación de un programa que fomente la inserción laboral de titulados universitarios y que disminuya el desempleo entre los estudiantes de educación superior. Se pretende crear unos 70 puestos de trabajo, para los 365 estudiantes que ahora mismo están en paro.

El Cabildo de Fuerteventura ha aportado una partida de 27.816€ para ayudar en la implantación de placas solares en casas y pymes. Estas ayudas se enmarcan en el Plan Estratégico de Ahorro Energético y Fomento de las Energías Renovables de la Consejería de Industria del Cabildo, aprobado por el pleno el pasado mes de febrero, y de estas ayudas se han beneficiado unos 25 candidatos, entre viviendas particulares, y pequeñas y medianas empresas.

The register of Betancuria reopens in Fuerteventura, 84 years later After having held the Register of Betancuria since 1932, the Museum of Gran Canaria gave it back last October 19th, after some years working on the documents, to stop their process of deterioration. The register, known as Judicial Register of Fuerteventura ‘or’ Register of Betancuria, houses documents created by the old institutions of the island, between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Tres oros para Fuerteventura en los «Cincho Cheese Awards» El certamen Cincho Cheese Awards 2016, convocado por la Junta de Castilla y León, ha recibido en esta edición la participación de 1.088 quesos de ámbito nacional e internacional, y entre ellos tres quesos majoreros, del grupo Ganaderos de Fuerteventura, han conseguido medallas de oro: Maxorata Fresco, oro al queso fresco de cabra, Maxorata Semicurado Pimentón, oro al queso maduro de cabra pasteurizado, y El Tofio, oro al queso tierno ahumado de cabra. Three golden medals for Fuerteventura in the «Cincho Cheese Awards» The Cincho Cheese Awards event 2016, organized by Castilla y Leon Government, has received this year the participation of 1,088 national and international cheeses. Among them, three majorero cheeses, from the stockbreeder group in Fuerteventura, have got golden medals : fresh Maxorata, gold to fresh goat cheese, Paprika Semi-mature Maxorata, gold to pasteurized goat cheese, and «El Tofio», gold to the soft smoked goat cheese.

Work project «Stay» for university graduates The City Council and the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura are collaborating in the creation of a program to promote the employment of university graduates and reduce unemployment among college students. They aim to create about 70 jobs for the 365 students that are currently unemployed.

Se estudia la posibilidad de habilitar una «playa sin humos» en La Oliva En el Municipio de La Oliva se están planteando la opción de crear, en el norte de Fuerteventura, lo que sería la primera «playa sin humos» de la isla, donde estaría prohibido fumar. Esta iniciativa no solo pretende librar a la playa de humos, sino de las desagradables colillas que se tiran al suelo, y que muchos padres de niños pequeños ven como algo peligroso para sus hijos que juegan con la arena. Con este fin se está lanzando una encuesta ciudadana a través de redes sociales y de la app municipal, para conocer la opinión de los ciudadanos, y se plantean cuatro playas como candidatas: la Playa del Muelle Chico (Corralejo), la Playa de La Concha (El Cotillo), la playa de La Galera (Corralejo) y Grandes Playas (Corralejo). La iniciativa ha sido puesta en marcha por Adeac, la Asociación de Educación Ambiental y del Consumidor, que es la misma encargada de otorgar las banderas azules. The possibility to enable a «smoke-free beach» is being considered in La Oliva In the municipality of La Oliva they are considering the option of enabling, in the north of Fuerteventura, what would be the first «smoke-free beach» of the island, where smoking would be banned. More than 27,000 euros to install solar panels Fuerteventura Island Council has contributed € 27,816 to collaborate in the implementation of solar panels at homes and SMEs. La línea comunicará Tarfaya con Puerto del Rosario, y finalizará en la isla de Gran Canaria. Las reformas en el puerto marroquí incluyen la creación de un dique de descarga con rampa, donde atracará el buque Armas, y el dragado del fondo del puerto, para evitar que se produzcan acumulaciones de arena que pongan en peligro de varada a los barcos, como ya ocurrió en 2008. Lajares, Fuerteventura Between the 14th and the 20th of November, the North of Fuerteventura will be hosting a temporary migration of artists and professionals of creativity, united under the name of Clean Perspectives. It is the first edition of a cultural project that consists of «workshops and events dedicated to alternative methods, environmental awareness and a free creative flow», It aims to bring international culture to Fuerteventura, and start a dialogue with the local community, developing together new forms of creative collaboration. The initiative is born thanks to the efforts and cultural interests of two associations. Clean Sounds, based in Lajares, focuses on the creation of a cultural movement based on cooperative behaviour and organizes events running exclusively on sustainable energy sources. Cluster, with head quarter in Berlin, arose from the experience of the multidisciplinary Plateau Gallery and is currently working to establish an international network of artists, and researchers, while offering possibilities for its members to travel, develop their talents abroad, spread and share culture. Thanks to the support of the local Government, the group will be hosted in the «Albergue El Cohombrillo», in Lajares. The rural house will become a one-week laboratory to develop new clean perspectives.

The educational activities will be related to the fields of arts, music and science. With the Clean Sounds workshop, the electronic musicians Fis and PYUR guide through experiences of deep listening and teach technics of field recording, to be applied both to music composition and daily life. Eckart Schaarschmidt, expert of solar energy, will teach how to build portable solar powered sound systems. Matteo Spanò and Filippo Gianetta, founders of Cashmere Radio, will guide the creation of a web community radio and the documentation of the project. The web radio will be running thanks to the national and international members of Clean Sounds Socio-Cultural Association, to keep in touch, share music, information, thoughts and cultural expression. Subscriptions will be open until the 11th of November. All curious minds of Fuerteventura are welcome! On Saturday the 19th, everybody is invited to learn more about Clean Perspectives in Lajares, where the group will present the work created during the week, while bringing art and music to the Craft Market. Además, previene las hernias inguinales y relaja considerablemente la musculatura de la espalda, reduciendo el cansancio y algunos dolores causados por malos hábitos posturales. EJECUCIÓN: Comienza tumbado en el suelo sobre el lado derecho. Extiende el brazo derecho en el suelo y flexiónalo de forma que sostengas la cabeza con la mano. Flexiona la pierna izquierda apoyando la planta del pie sobre el muslo contrario. Sujeta el pie con la mano izquierda y extiende la pierna hacia arriba. Es importante en este punto que trates de mantener la espalda, la pelvis y la pierna de apoyo en postura neutra, encontrando el equilibrio sobre el lado derecho sin balancearte hacia atrás. Si falta flexibilidad, probablemente necesites, en lugar de sujetar la pierna elevada desde el pie, hacerlo desde el tobillo. Mantén la postura, en un principio, cinco respiraciones. Y repite del lado izquierdo. A medida que practicas puedes ir aumentándolas hasta 20.

Ametz: Nagore Urruzola’s dream Basque, but living in Fuerteventura since 2000, Nagore Urruzola is a chef who has been passionately devoted the world of gastronomy all her life. Being very young she already knew she wanted to become a cook, and therefore she studied this discipline and got the higher training in Euskadi.

Vasca, pero afincada en Fuerteventura desde el año 2000, Nagore Urruzola es una chef que lleva toda la vida dedicada con pasión al mundo de la gastronomía. Ya de pequeña tenía muy claro que quería ser cocinera, y por ello se formó en esta disciplina, con el grado superior en Euskadi. Enamorada de la cocina vasca, en la que se ha fraguado su saber hacer, en su restaurante Ametz (sueño en euskera), de El Cotillo, Nagore mezcla las técnicas y productos de su cocina de toda la vida —dándole una importancia especial al bacalao—, con todo lo que ha ido aprendiendo de las diferentes culturas que ha conocido, incluida la canaria, y por tanto, su cocina puede definirse como creativa y diferente, mezcla de estilos culinarios, con una fuerte presencia de la gastronomía vasca, pero también de la canaria y la tailandesa, que verdaderamente adora. Así en su carta podemos encontrar diferentes variedades de bacalao (brandada, fingers, el delicioso y tradicional Club Ranero que hemos probado y podéis ver en las fotos, con su cama de pimientos y cebolla caramelizada y su chorrito de «pil pil», otro bacalao con un toque más oriental, con crujiente y leche de coco); guiños a la cocina canaria, como la carne de cabra, eso sí, con el toque diferente de Ametz, que es a la lima; rollitos de gamba, puerro y jengibre, con salsa agridulce, que también podéis ver en las fotos; risottos, como el de col morada, y múltiples platos que se antojan deliciosos y que además, en un futuro próximo, podremos disfrutar en un menú degustación, fino, variado y sabroso; una oferta diferenciada de la ofrecida, en mayor parte, en el pueblecito marinero de El Cotillo, que suele estar más centrada en el pescado fresco. El local de Ametz es amplio y diáfano, y la decoración es exquisita, con muchas partes del mobiliario restauradas y con detalles hechos a mano que le dan ese toque tan personal y acogedor. En este local hay cabida para eventos privados, particulares o empresariales, y en este momento están empezando a organizar las cenas de empresa de las próximas Navidades, así que si este año quieres celebrar tu cena de empresa en un lugar diferente, con estilo y calidad, no tardes en llamarles para re-
