EL SURF SIN BARRERAS VUELVE ESTE VERANO A FUERTEVENTURA DE LA MANO DE PLAY AND TRAIN La entidad sin ánimo de lucro española ha puesto en marcha un proyecto Europeo de surf para personas con discapacidad en el que colaboran entidades de Portugal e Italia. Tres de los campamentos se desarrollan en Fuerteventura, donde comenzaron el pasado 10 de junio, y otro en Viana do Castelo, en Portugal. El proyecto, que además incluye el primer Seminario Europeo de Surf Adaptado, está cofinanciado por el programa Erasmus + Sport de la Unión Europea.

Esa es la meta que persiguen los Campamentos de Surf Adaptado que arrancaron el pasado 10 de junio en Fuerteventura, de la mano de Play and Train. En este proyecto, liderado por esta empresa social española en colaboración con la entidad portuguesa Surf Club de Viana y la italiana Happy Wheels, se desarrollan 4 campamentos para personas con discapacidad, tres de los cuales tienen lugar en Fuerteventura. El programa lo completan además otras actividades, todas con un objetivo común: «mejorar la salud y el bienestar de los jóvenes con discapacidad en aspectos tanto físicos como psicológicos». Play and Train es un referente en la práctica deportiva del surf adaptado desde que comenzara a realizar campamentos y jornadas en 2010. Ahora, lidera por primera vez un proyecto europeo, que además de los campamentos

der nuevas técnicas en el agua, por las tardes asistirán a talleres educativos y de sensibilización, con temáticas tan diversas como la nutrición, la seguridad en el deporte, la sostenibilidad o las políticas sobre discapacidad de la Unión Europea. De este modo, se impulsa el «desarrollo de cualidades físicas, emocionales, sociales y morales a través de talleres que promueven la cooperación, la participación y el aprendizaje activo», explican desde la organización. «Todo el mundo tiene los mismos derechos surcando una ola» Con este proyecto, Play and Train y sus socios Surf Club de Viana y Happy Wheels buscan, no solo la creación de hábitos de vida saludables para estos jóvenes, sino también, transmitirles «valores», que gocen de «inclusión» y «reconocimiento social» y que «mejoren su autoestima».

Y es que, como apuntan desde esta entidad con sede en Barcelona y Fuerteventura, «en el agua todo el mundo es igual; todo el mundo tiene los mismos derechos surcando una ola». De otro lado, a través de los campamentos y la realización del Seminario, en el que se compartirán conocimientos y experiencias, Play and Train aspira a «construir los cimientos de una metodología de surf adaptado». Con los campamentos, se logra una «progresión en la metodología, centrándonos en las diferentes capacidades y el desarrollo de un material adaptado específico», apuntan. «Posicionar las islas como destino para el turismo accesible activo» Los objetivos de Play and Train atañen también a Fuerteventura y a Canarias. Una de las metas del proyecto, y especialmente del Seminario de Surf Adaptado, es «situar a Canarias en el punto de mira en cuanto al desarrollo del surf adaptado» y «posicionar» a las islas «como destino deportivo y de ocio para el turismo accesible activo», explica la co-fundadora de la organización, Mariona Masdemont. La también co-fundadora de esta entidad, Sylvana Mestre, agrega que el objetivo de las distintas acciones de Play and Train es «llevar a deportistas con discapacidad al más alto nivel». Ambas recalcan que «la accesibilidad al deporte sigue sin abordarse, sobre todo porque los niños y jóvenes con discapacidad no disfrutan de las mismas oportunidades para practicar deporte que sus compañeros sin discapacidad». En este sentido, explican que, con este proyecto, Play and Train pretende contribuir a «mejorar la accesibilidad del deporte para todos». COMES BACK TO FUERTEVENTURA THIS SUMMER BY PLAY AND TRAIN A Spanish non-profit entity has set in motion a European project for disabled people in which Portuguese and Italian entities are also cooperating. Three of these camps will be developed in Fuerteventura, where they started last June 10th, and another one will take place in Viana do Castelo, in Portugal. The project, which also includes the first European Seminary of Adapted Surf, is being funded jointly by the programme «Erasmus + Sport» in the European Union.

VISUAL, SENSORY, INTELLECTUAL IMPAIRMENTS, AUTISM OR CEREBRAL PALSY ARE SET ASIDE IN THESE CAMPS, WHERE EVERYBODY ENJOYS SURF AND THE SEA TO THE FULLEST Everybody, regardless of their capacities, should be able to enjoy the magic of waves on a board. This is the main aim of these Adapted Surfing Camps that started last June 10th in Fuerteventura by Play and Train. In this project, lead by this Spanish social company in cooperation with the Portuguese entity Surf Club de Viana and the Italian Happy Wheels, 4 camps will be developed for impaired people, three out of which will take place in Fuerteventura. The programme is also completed by other activities, all of them with a common aim: «improving the health and the well being of disabled youngsters, physically as well as psychologically». Play and train is a model to follow in the practise of adapted surfing since they started to organize camps and awareness sessions in 2010. Now they are leading for the first time a European project, which apart from the camps they include the celebrations of the first European Seminar on Adapted Surfing, which will take place next October in Fuerteventura and will count on the presence of elite athletes. This initiative has been selected by the European Union for its co-funding with Erasmus + Sport 2017 Programme. Throughout the six days that the Camp has lasted, the sponsors have enjoyed training sessions every morning. After developing their abilities and learning new techniques in the water, in the afternoon they attended educational and awareness workshops dealing with topics as diverse as tnutrition, security in sport, sustainability and politics about disabilities in the European Union. That way, they boast «the development of physical, emotional, social and moral qualities through workshops that promote cooperation, participation and active learning», they explain from this organization. «Everybody has the same rights when riding a wave» With this project, Play and Train and their partners from Surf Club de Viana and Happy Wheels try to succeed not just

in the creation of healthy life habits for these youngsters, but also to pass down to them values, make them enjoy «inclusion» and «social recognition» and also «improve their self-esteem». And the truth is, as this entity with headquarters in Barcelona and Fuerteventura points out, that «everybody is the same in the water; everybody has the same rights when riding a wave». On the other hand, through camps and Seminars, where knowledge and experiences are shared, Play and Try aspire to «building the foundations of a methodology of adapted surfing». Through Camps, they achieve an «improvement of the methodology, focusing on different capacities and the development of specific adapted material», they state.

«Positioning the Islands as destination for accessible active tourism» The aims of Play and Train also concern Fuerteventura and The Canary Islands. One of the goals of this project, especially the Seminar on Adapted Surfing, is «to position The Canary Islands in the spotlight as far as the development of adapted surfing is concerned» and also «as sport and leisure destinations for accessible active tourism», the co-funder of this organization, Mariona Masdemont, states. The also co-funder of this entity, Sylvana Mestre, adds that the target of the different actions of Play and Train is « to take disabled athletes to the top level». Both of them highlight the fact that « accessibility to sport hasn’t been dealt with yet, mainly because disabled children and youngsters don’t enjoy the same opportunities to practise sport as their non-disabled peers». In this respect, they explain that with this project, Play and Train aims to contribute to «improving accessibility to sports for everybody». «OTRA FORMA DE SENTIR EL MAR» El mar, la sal, las olas, el sol, Lobos observando, la tabla y el remo son los ingredientes de Onexe La ilusión, la constancia y el sacrificio son la receta del éxito de este proyecto Patrocinadores: Naviera Armas y Secreto del Sur Onexe nace en 2012 de la mano de Nayra Martínez, gran apasionada del surf, el windsurf y el Paddle, nacida en el corazón de Corralejo, y licenciada en Ciencias de la Actividad Física y del Deporte. El objetivo inicial de este proyecto es, además de apoyar al deportista, abrir una puerta a aquellos niños que sueñan con ser campeones, y a su vez, ser un medio donde la gente pueda descubrir el efecto que el mar genera sobre uno mismo. Para hacer este sueño realidad, Onexe apostó por los deportes náuticos, difundiendo su práctica y acercándola a los habitantes del municipio de La Oliva a través de diversos programas y proyectos que se llevan a cabo en la Escuela Náutica de Corralejo, con la finalidad clara de aumentar la participación en las clases semanales de sup, vela y piragüismo. En estos cinco años de recorrido, Onexe ha enfocando sus esfuerzos en la creación de un equipo excepcional para el desarrollo del Stand Up Paddle en Corralejo. Cuentan en su club con referentes como Stephane Etienne (campeón de España de SUP Olas 2011) y Nicole Boronat (subcampeona de España de SUP Olas 2017), ambos provienen del mundo del windsurf, donde han competido contra los grandes de este deporte y residen desde el año 2000 en Fuerteventura. Cuentan también con Pablo Valencia, norteño afincado en Fuerteventura desde 1997, subcampeón de España de SUP Olas en 2012 y seleccionado en 2013 para conformar el Equipo Español de SUP para el Mundial de Perú. Como madrina del Club cuentan con la conocidísima Iballa Ruano, 6 veces campeona de España y que este año ha revalidado su hegemonía en Europa con su 4º título. Otro gran nombre, actualmente entrenador del equipo Onexe, es Jaran Rodríguez, dedicado en cuerpo y alma a transmitir su pasión por los deportes de deslizamiento en el agua a los alumnos y su experiencia como deportista de competición. La sección de vela de la escuela náutica la lleva Esperanza Barreras Sanjurjo, que ha sido preolímpica en Mach .6

Race y es una deportista de alto nivel demostrado al proclamarse campeona de España en velocidad en Aranjuez y cuarta de España en SUP olas. Así, los deportistas de Onexe han ido cosechando éxito tras éxito. Solo en lo que llevamos de año el equipo Onexe ha ganado el Campeonato de España de SUP de velocidad en el «Madrid Sup Games» celebrado el 26 de Mayo en Aranjuez y consiguiendo 17 medallas (7 de oro, 5 de plata y 5 de bronce). Veinte integrantes del equipo, desde los 9 años hasta la categoría absoluta, remaron las mangas con todas sus fuerzas para conseguir un hueco en el podium, siendo protagonistas durante todas las prueba y tiñendo el río con sus camisetas amarillas. Actualmente los alumnos del Equipo Onexe son niños de entre 8 y 17 años, que conforman la primera cantera en Canarias y que han ido cosechado varios títulos nacionales en los últimos años. Todos ellos van cosechando premios y superándose día a día gracias al apoyo del club. Entre ellos, destaca Thiago Sosa por ser campeón de España en Sup Race distancia 2016 y campeón de España Velocidad 2017. El ambiente familiar que se respira dentro del Club les acompaña en sus viajes hacia los diferentes campeonatos por todo el territorio nacional y regional, promocionando a la vez la imagen de Fuerteventura en todos los rincones a los que acuden a competir. Pero no solo participan en competiciones también las organizan. El ímpetu de Onexe por difundir su pasión, les ha llevado a organizar varios eventos deportivos de alto nivel. El más destacado, y que está dentro del calendario de la Federación Española de Surf y de la canaria, es el «Fuerteventura Sup Challenge». Un evento ya consolidado que celebrará su 5ª edición en

noviembre, cita obligada para todo profesional del SUP, donde se disputa una prueba de olas, otra de larga distancia y una carrera técnica donde gana el más hábil. Onexe también se ha marcado el reto de organizar, por primera vez en Canarias, una prueba internacional integrada en uno de los circuitos mundiales más importantes del Stand Up Paddle, el conocido «Euro Tour». En esta prueba los deportistas unirán Lanzarote y Fuerteventura a golpe de paladas en un downwind muy atractivo. Los esfuerzos de Onexe —organizativos, profesionales y humanos—, motivados por el entusiasmo conjunto de las personas y entidades que lo conforman, no destacan sólo a nivel deportivo, sino sobre todo, a nivel social, lúdico y cultural, haciendo extensible la práctica de deportes náuticos a los habitantes de la isla como un elemento clave para el desarrollo de la joven sociedad majorera. Es muy posible que para el 2024 el SUP pase a ser un deporte olímpico, y los esfuerzos y los premios cosechados por Onexe auguran que miembros del equipo junior de este club puedan aspirar a ser miembros del equipo nacional. Onexe continua día a día en su línea de trabajo, apostando por un Centro Náutico integral, abierto a la comunidad y que contemple todo tipo de actividades que protejan el entorno, con una oferta náutico-recreativa muy completa y de alta calidad, dando un impulso distinguido a toda la actividad náutica desarrollada en la Isla. Onexe pelea, con todo su trabajo en entrenamientos y competiciones, por conseguir el Título de Centro de Tecnificación de Stand Up Paddle que otorga el Consejo Superior de Deportes. En este momento el equipo Onexe se prepara para disputar el Campeonato de España de Verano en Santander, prueba que se disputará en septiembre.

«ANOTHER WAY TO FEEL THE SEA» Sponsors: Naviera Armas and Secreto del Sur

The sea, the salt, the waves, the island of Lobos watching, the board and the paddle are the ingredients of Onexe. Illusion, perseverance and sacrifice are the recipe for success in this project.

Onexe arose in 2012 with Nayra Martínez, a great passionate of surf, windsurf and Paddle born in the heart of Corralejo and BSc in Sport Science and Science of Physical Activity. The initial goal of this project is, apart from supporting the athlete, opening a door to those children dreaming of becoming champions and, at the same time, being a means where people can find out the effect that the sea generates in oneself. To make this dream come true, Onexe focused on water sports, spreading its practise and approaching it to the inhabitants of La Oliva through different programmes and projects that the nautical school in Corralejo carries out, clearly aimed to increase the participation in Sup, Sailing and Canoeing weekly classes. In these five years of experience, Onexe has focused all its efforts in the creation of a team for the development of Stand Up Paddle in Corralejo. In the club they have leaders like Stephane Etienne (Spanish Champion Sup Wave 2011) or Nicole Boronat ( Spanish runner-up Sup Wave 2017). Both of them come from the world of Windsurf, where they have competed against the great names in this sport and they have been living in Fuerteventura from the year 2000. They also have with them Pablo Valencia, a northerly neighbour settled in Fuerteventura since 1997, runner-up Spanish Sup Wave 2012 and short-listed in 2013 to make up the Spanish SUP Wave team for the World Championship in Perú. As a Godmother of the club they have the well-known Iballa Ruano, who has headed, for the fourth year running, her title of European Champion and who has been Spanish champion for six times. Another great name, currently a trainer in Onexe Team, is Jaran Rodríguez, completely devoted to instil his passion for water board sports to his students, as well as his experience as high performance athlete. .8

The Sailing section of the Nautical School is run by Esperanza Barreras Sanjurjo, which has been Pre-Olympic in Mach Race and is a high ranking athlete, which she proved when she became Spanish Speed Champion in Aranjuez, and the fourth one in SUP Wave in Spain. That way, Onexe athletes have gone from success to success. So far this year, Onexe has won the Spanish Championship SUP Speed in «Madrid Sup Games», celebrated on May 26th in Aranjuez, and getting 17 medals (7 golden medals, 5 silver and 5 bronze). Twenty members of this team, from age 9 to absolute category, paddled to their best to achieve a place on the podium, becoming the protagonists in all the races and dyeing the river in yellow with their t-shirts. Currently, the members of the Onexe Team are children among 8 and 17, who make up the first team in The Canary Islands and that have won several national titles in the last years. All of them are winning prizes and they improve day after day thanks to the support of the club. Among them,Thiago Sosa stands out for being the Spanish Champion in Sup Race 2016, and Spanish Champion Sup Speed 2017. The cosy atmosphere you can breathe in inside the Club accompanies them in their trips to the different championships in the national and regional territory, promoting the image of Fuerteventura in all the nooks of the world where they go to compete. But not only do they participate in competitions, they also organize them. The energy of Onexe to spread its passion has taken them to organize several high level sport events. The most outstanding one, which is inside the calendar of the Spanish and Canary Islands Surf Federation, is that of «Fuerteventura Sup Challenge». This consolidated event will celebrate its fifth edition in November, and it’s a must for all the SUP professionals, where

a Wave, a Long Distance and a technique race will take place, and the most skilled one will win. Onexe has also challenged itself to organize, for the first time in The Canary Islands, an international event integrated in one of the most important world circuits of Stand Up Paddle, the wellknown «Euro Tour». In this event, the athletes will join Lanzarote and Fuerteventura together with their paddles in a very attractive downwind. The efforts by Onexe- organizational, professional and humanmotivated by the joint excitement of the people and entities that make it up, don’t stand out only on a sports level but, mainly, on social, recreational and cultural levels, extending the practice of water sports to the inhabitants of the island as a key element for the development of the young society of Fuerteventura island. It’s very probable that for the year 2024 SUP will become an Olympic sport, and the efforts and prizes won by Onexe foretell that the members of the junior team of this club may be eligible to become members of the national team. Onexe continues his working line day to day, supporting a comprehensive nautical centre, open to the community and carrying out activities that protect the environment, with a complete high quality recreational and nautical offer, boasting all the nautical activities developed in the island.Onexe fights, with all its work in trainings and competitions, to achieve the title of Stand Up Paddle Technique centre, granted by the Superior Sports Board. In this moment, Onexe team is getting ready to participate at the Spain Summer Championship in Santander, which will take place in September. The Sea is infinite, as much as the eagerness, energy and illusion of Onexe to reach the finishing line in every race they participate in.

This month of July, concretely the 22th and 23th, the Autonomic and insular circuit Talents of Surf FUERTEVENTURA 2017 will take place in Playa Blanca, Puerto del Rosario, from 8 a.m., organised by the Surf Club FUERTE TRIBU. El arte del crochet y los patrones de tejer de Capitanauncino El art of crocheting and knitting patterns by Capitanauncino Desde que tiene uso de razón, desde que tiene memoria, se recuerda haciendo crochet o cosiendo, y es que Elina Vaananen es finlandesa, y allí el crochet, la costura y tejer son actividades culturales que todos suelen practicar desde muy jovencitos, incluso lo practican en el colegio. Actualmente Elina tiene su propio negocio relacionado con el crochet, lo que empezó como un hobby, que compartía con su abuela y su madre, se convirtió hace unos años en su modo de vida. Primero empezó cosiendo y haciendo su propia ropa que vendía en mercadillos. Tras un viaje a India, al ver que allí todo el mundo hacia crochet, Elina volvió a recuperar este hobby y hacer piezas de ropa para bebé, juguetes, muñecas, decoración, piezas únicas y hermosas… Fue precisamente en India donde conoció al que es hoy su pareja y el padre de sus tres

preciosas hijas, y con ellos se estableció en Fuerteventura. Hace unos años su hija Pitu le creo una cuenta de Instagram, un mundo desconocido completamente para Elina, donde pronto comenzó a tener éxito y sobre todo le llamó la atención el hecho de que mucha gente quería saber cómo se hacían esas piezas tan bonitas. Con esto en mente, comenzó a hacer patrones, muy detallados, de cada prenda que creaba en crochet. El éxito fue tal que en 6 meses Elina cuenta con más de 12.000 fans en Instagram y vende sus patrones desde una de las plataformas para artesanos más importares de internet, Etsy. El éxito de sus patrones se debe a que están perfectamente detallados e ilustra con fotos cada paso del proceso de creación de la pieza, incluso nos comenta feliz que «hay gente que ha aprendido desde cero a hacer crochet con ellos». Sus prendas favoritas son bañadores, bikinis, ropa de playa, vestidos,… pero también hace jerseys y gorros, y viéndola tejer, te das cuenta de que podría hacer cualquier cosa con un ganchillo. «Es como una adicción» nos comenta Elina, «además puedo hacer crochet en cualquier momento y en cualquier lugar». Actualmente ya solo se dedica a hacer patrones. Para Elina a nivel creativo es muy gratificante ya que primero idea una pieza en su mente, la realiza a base de crochet y una vez que la tiene hecha, se sienta a escribir y convertir esa prenda es un detallado pdf que cuelga en su web. For ever since she can remember, she can see herself crocheting or sewing, as Elina Vaananen is Finnish, and there crocheting, sewing, knitting are cultural activities that everybody has usually practised from a very early age, even at school. Currently Elina has her own business related to crochet; what began as a hobby, which she shared with her grandmother and mother became, some years ago, her way of life. She started out sewing and making her own clothes, which she sold in flea markets. After a trip to India, seeing that everybody crocheted there, Elina retook this hobby and began making baby clothing, toys, dolls, decoration, unique and wonderful items. It was exactly in India that she met her current partner and the father of her three precious daughters and she settled down in Fuerteventura with them.

Elina Vaananen Some years ago her daughter, Piitu, created an instagram account for her, a completely unknown world for Elina, where she soon started to succeed. What struck her was the fact that people wanted to know how to make such beautiful items. Bearing this in mind she started to elaborate very detailed patterns of every piece of clothing she created. She was so successful that in six months Elina got more than 12.000 fans in instagram, and she sells her patterns through one of the most important web-platforms for craftspeople on the net: Etsy. The success of her patterns is due to the fact that they are perfectly detailed and she illustrates with pictures every step of this creation process of her items. She even says very happily that «there are people who learnt to crochet with them from scratch». Her favourite items of clothing are swim suits, bikinis, beach clothing, dresses… but she also makes jerseys and caps, and watching her knitting you realise she would be able to make any crocheting items. «It’s like an addiction», Elina states. «Moreover, I can crochet at any time and in any place». At present, she only makes patterns. For Elina, at a creative level, this is very gratifying, as she first has to create an item in her mind, she crochets it, and once it is made she sits down to write and turn this item of clothing into a detailed pdf that she then uploads in her web. That way she can share her passion with all the world, thus contributing to keeping alive what means a wonderful tradition for her, which she inherited from her mother and grandmother. LAS REDES AL SERvICIO DE LA CIUDADANÍA DEL WHATSAPP AL PARLAMENTO Por Libertad Morales Salamanca Movimientos como Súper mamis en marcha o la Plataforma por un alquiler justo comenzaron chateando sus quejas en el móvil, ahora acumulan apoyos gracias a su visibilidad en las redes sociales. Usar internet como herramienta para movilizar a la ciudadanía no es algo nuevo. Diariamente nos llegan peticiones de páginas tan conocidas como change.org pidiendo que te unas a su causa, un instrumento que ha permitido a las voces anónimas hacerse oír. Sin embargo, no todas estas iniciativas llegan a buen puerto o se dejan sentir más allá de las redes. En Fuerteventura las Súper mamis en marcha lo han conseguido. No hay nadie en Fuerteventura que no haya escuchado hablar de ellas, un colectivo de madres de Corralejo que unidas por el grupo de lactancia del WhatsApp han conseguido miles de apoyos, han asaltado los medios de comunicación, se han echado a la calle y han alcanzado el mismísimo Parlamento Canario para entrevistarse con el Consejero de Sanidad. Las Súper mamis acumulan en Facebook más de 18 mil usuarios, su propuesta en change.org ha recabado 1.652 firmas en tres semanas, si bien en las manifestaciones convocadas el número desciende y los miles se convierte en cientos, algo que desde las Súper mamis ya esperaban pero que no las detiene. En el último mes han ocupado las páginas de periódicos, han salido en radio, televisión y han recibido apoyos en las redes sociales, especialmente Facebook, desde todos los puntos del planeta haciendo que el mensaje de estas madres guerreras se extienda por todo el mundo. Cuando comenzaron no eran más de diez y ahora son cerca de cincuenta madres las que respaldan el movimiento iniciado en las redes sociales. «Raro es quien hoy no tiene Facebook, WhatsApp o Twitter donde la información es rápida, instantánea y global, además de ser

gratuita. Por eso, pensamos que la plataforma de Facebook era la mejor manera de hacernos oír y comunicar estas carencias, reivindicar e incluso, como ha pasado, recibir apoyo de otras personas y asociaciones que comparten nuestra causa». Por ahora, han conseguido la promesa del Consejero de Sanidad y aunque se sienten satisfechas, no van a parar hasta ver cumplidas sus demandas por lograr una sanidad digna para todos y que pasa por contar en el Centro de Salud de Corralejo con profesionales cualificados en pediatría, tanto en consulta como en urgencias y en dotar a La Oliva de una ambulancia medicalizada, entre otras demandas no menos importantes.

OTRAS INICIATIvAS Hace un año surgía en change.org una petición para exigir a las autoridades una solución ante la subida del precio de los alquileres y la irrupción de los alquileres vacacionales, con un total de 2.632 firmantes hasta la fecha. En Facebook el grupo Plataforma de Afectados por el Alquiler Abusivo en Canarias (PAAAC) cuenta con 100 miembros de distintos puntos del Archipiélago. En Lajares, el pasado 21 de mayo un grupo de personas se reunían para tratar el mismo tema. Sin embargo, sus voces no se han oído tan fuerte, ni han tenido hasta ahora la misma repercusión. La protesta más reciente en las redes y que se ha propagado de móvil a móvil ha sido la petición surgida de manera anónima en change.org para pedir a las instituciones la intervención y paralización de las excursiones lucrativas con vehículos a motor (quads, 4x4) en zonas protegidas de Fuerteventura, como la costa norte, el barranco de Lajares o Vallebrón. Una petición que en sólo dos semanas ha conseguido 1.959 firmas, una cifra que supera a las Súper mamis y que pone sobre la mesa la preocupación de los majoreros y residentes en Fuerteventura por el entorno natural en el viven.

THE NETWORkS AT THE SERvICE OF THE CITIZENSHIP FROM WHATSAPP TO PARLIAMENT

By Libertad Morales Salamanca Social movements like «Súper mamis en marcha» or the «Platform for a fair rent» started by people chatting about complaints in their mobiles, and now they got support thanks to their visibility in social networks. Using the internet as a tool to mobilize the citizenship isn’t something new. We get daily claims from well-known pages like change.org asking for you to join their cause, a tool that has allowed anonymous voices to be listened to. However, not all these initiatives are successful or go beyond the social netwoks. In Fuerteventura, «Súper mamis en marcha» has succeeded. There is nobody in Fuerteventura who hasn’t heard of them, a group of mothers in Corralejo who joined by the WhatsApp group of breastfeeding has got thousands of supporters, has assaulted the media, has taken to the streets and has reached the very Canary Islands Parliament to have an interview with the Heath and Consumer Affairs Counsellor. «Súper mamis en marcha» have more than 18 thousand users in Facebook; their proposal in change.org has gathered more than 1652 signatures in three weeks, although the number decreased in the demonstrations called and the thousands become hundreds, something that «Súper mamis en marcha» already expected but which doesn’t stop them. In the last month they have grabbed column inches in newspapers, have appeared on the radio, tv, and have received support by the networks, especially Facebook, from all over the planet, making the message of these fighting mothers spread all over the world. When they stared there weren’t more that ten of them, and now there are around fifty mothers supporting a movement that had started on social networks. «Nowadays it’s rare the one who doesn’t have a Facebook, WhatsApp or Twitter account, where the information is quick, instantaneous and global, apart

from being free. This is why we thought that Facebook was the best one to let ourselves be heard and communicate these deficiencies, claims and even, as it has happened, gain support by other people and associations that share our cause». Up to now, they have got the promise by the Health and consumer Counsellor and, although they feel satisfied, they won’t stop until they see their demands to achieve a decent heath system for everybody are fulfilled, and this consists of having qualified Pediatrics professionals in the Health Centre in Corralejo, both in surgeries and emergencies, and having a fully equipped ambulance in La Oliva, among other equally important demands.

OTHER INITIATIvES One year ago, a demand in chage.org would arise to require the authorities to provide a solution to regulate the housing prices through rents and the irruption of holiday rentals, with a total of 2632 signatures up to now. In Facebook, the group «Platform of people affected by the abusive rentals in The Canary Islands (PAAAC)» has more than 100 members from different places in the Archipelago. In Lajares, last May 21st, a group of people met to deal with this very topic. However, their voices weren’t heard so loudly, nor have they had the same impact up to now. The most recent protest in the networks and that has spread through all the mobiles has been one anonymous claim that arose in change.org asking institutions to intervene and stop the profit making excursions in four-wheel drive vehicles through protected areas in Fuerteventura, like the Northern Coast, the ravine in Lajares or Vallebrón. A request that in just two weeks has achieved 1959 signatures, a figure that exceeded that of «Súper mamis» and that brings to debate the concern of people from Fuerteventura and other residents about the natural environment that surrounds them.
