EL ROMPEOLAS ES EL RESTAURANTE DEL AVANTI HOTEL BOUTIQUE DE FUERTEVENTURA, SITUADO EN LA LOCALIDAD DE CORRALEJO. ESTE PEQUEÑO HOTEL BOUTIQUE, DE RECIENTE REMODELACIÓN Y APERTURA, ESTÁ SITUADO EN EL MUELLE CHICO DE CORRALEJO, PLENO CENTRO NEURÁLGICO DEL PUEBLO. Sus vistas al puerto y la bahía, con el Islote de Lobos al fondo y Lanzarote por detrás, son maravillosas. La decoración marinera, llena de efectos navales, fotos antiguas del lugar y una buena musiquita de fondo, invitan a regalarse y entregarse al placer de la degustación.

Natalia y Óscar son la pareja de peninsulares que dirige la nave. Con la ayuda de su equipo, nos brindan un servicio cálido y familiar en este marco incomparable, donde nos ofrecen un menú muy español, en el que son protagonistas los productos del mar.

Después de abrir boca con el aperitivo de la casa —para que no te aburras mientras esperas— llega el momento de elegir: Pulpo, aderezado a la gallega pero hecho a la brasa, dándole un toque muy especial. Los finísimos pimientos del piquillo, rellenos de una suave bechamel con bacalao. O el pescado del día, en esta ocasión «Bocinegro» a la espalda, con sus ajitos bien dorados. Para los carnívoros, el cabri-

to, confitado primero y frito después, quedando tierno en el interior y crujiente por fuera... ¡Delicioso! Todo bien acompañado con sus ricas guarniciones: papas arrugadas al horno, pimientos de padrón, bouquets de ensalada…

Como colofón, los postres: arroz con leche, de cabra por supuesto, y «Gotxua», una versión vasca del tiramisú, pero sin café. Si sois amantes del chocolate, no dejéis de probar su «Coulant» hecho en casa, algo bastante difícil de encontrar en estos tiempos de productos preelaborados.

Cuentan con una carta de vinos sencilla, siendo el de la casa muy resultón.

En conclusión, recetas sencillas muy bien ejecutadas. Y es que al buen producto, si se le trata con delicadeza, no le hace falta grandes elaboraciones.

Si queréis daros un gustazo, podéis empezar el día disfrutando de un estupendo desayuno-buffet junto al mar. Entre las 8:00 y las 10:00, por 10€/persona, dentro del local o en la terraza, a pie de la Avenida Marítima.

EL ROMPEOLAS IS A RESTAURANT IN THE AVANTI HOTEL BOUTIQUE IN FUERTEVENTURA, LOCATED IN CORRALEJO. THIS SMALL HOTEL BOUTIQUE, RECENTLY REMODELLED AND OPENED, IS LOCATED IN «EL MUELLE CHICO» IN CORRALEJO, THE VERY NEURALGIC CENTRE OF THIS VILLAGE. Its views to the port and the bay, with the island of Lobos in the background and Lanzarote behind it, are wonderful.

The seafaring decoration, full of ship’s chandler, old photographs of the place and a nice background music, invite you to relax and give in to the pleasure of tasting.

Natalia and Óscar are the peninsular couple that «steer the ship». With the help of their team they offer us a warm and friendly service in this incomparable frame where they offer a typical Spanish menu where sea products play a leading role.

After getting a taste of the appetizer of the house —and so that you don’t get bored while waiting— the time of choosing arrives: Octopus, Galician style dressed but cooked in the grill, which gives it a very special flavour. The exquisite pepper, stuffed with a soft white sauce and cod. Or the catch of the day, this time baked porgy with browned garlic. For meat lovers, the kid, first glacé and then fried, being soft inside and crunchy

outside... Delicious! accompanied by exquisite garnish: baked «papas arrugadas» (wrinkled potatoes), «padrón» variety peppers, salad bouquets.... and as the grand finale to a great meal, the desserts: rice pudding (of course, in goat milk) and «Gotxua».... a Basque version of the classical tiramisu, but without coffee. If you are chocolate lovers, you can’t miss their home-made «Coulant», quite difficult to find in these times of prefabricated products.

They have a nice wine list, the house wine being fairly good.

As a conclusion, simple recipes but very well prepared. A good product treated with delicacy doesn’t need great elaborations.

If you want to treat yourselves you can start the day enjoying a nice buffet breakfasts by the sea. Between 8:00 and 10:00, for just 10€/person, inside or at the terrace, right beside Avenida Marítina.

KITE SURF CENTER Con el apodo de Corky —porque según sus amigos su estilo se parece al del famoso surfero hawaiano Corky Carroll—, Martin Robert Kirkham es toda una leyenda del windsurf en nuestras costas.

Su pasión por este deporte le apareció por una casualidad del destino, ya que no procede de una familia de amantes de los deportes acuáticos; simplemente su padre, con quien pasa­ ba los veranos en España, se compró una tabla de windsurf para aprender pero, al no gustarle finalmente este deporte, decidió dejarle la tabla a su hijo para que jugara con ella. Sin darse cuenta había puesto en sus manos una herramienta que cambiaría toda su vida, ya que el juego poco a poco se fue transformando en pasión, y esa pasión marcó su camino.

En el año 89 decidió lanzarse a su aventura española y fue a Tarifa, a vivir en su furgoneta por dos años. Quería probar los fuertes vientos de 70km/h del sur de la península para mejorar su técnica, y la mejoró hasta tal punto que en el 91 volvió a Gran Bretaña (isla de Tiree, al oeste de Escocia), para presentarse al Circuito Británi­ co, y la sorpresa fue un primer puesto que le transformó en el campeón inglés en la moda­ lidad de Expression (trucos y saltos en olas).

Ese mismo año, tras la victoria, decidió visitar Fuerteventura para pasar unas vacaciones de dos semanas, atraído por la calidad del viento y de las olas en nuestras rompientes.

Se enamoró de tal modo de este paraíso que volvió a casa para empaquetar sus cosas y volverse a la isla, donde desde ese momento ha instalado su residencia base, volviendo siempre que puede a competir en su querido Circuito Británico, que le ha valido otras dos victorias en los años 92 y 95, y también en competiciones y exhibiciones en el impresionante Earls Court de Londres donde, en una piscina con fuertes vientos generados por ventiladores, los windsurferos hacen un alarde de todos sus trucos, envueltos por millones de flashes de cámaras. Pero su espíritu competitivo no le ha llevado sólo a su tierra ma­ dre, sino que también podemos verle competir en el Circui­ to Canario y en competiciones e invitacionales realizados en

nuestra isla; y aunque lleva toda una vida en este mundo, Corky prefiere los baños libres, con los amigos, en olas de unos 3 metros y vientos fuertes para vela de 4.7.

Ha viajado por infinidad de lugares para practicar su pa­ sión: muchos lugares del Caribe como Puerto Rico, Hawai, toda España, Irlanda, Escocia… pero nada comparable a la calidad de vida en Fuerteventura.

En el año 93 Corky decide © 2013 Victor Moncloa montar su primer negocio en la isla: Corky’s Bar, un rincón don­ de surferos y windsurferos se juntaban todas las noches para hablar de la jornada, los saltos, los tubos… y comentar las ex­ pectativas del día siguiente.

Eran tiempos en que Corralejo tenía su calle principal cubierta de arena con palmeras y los picos estaban casi desiertos, y por la noche sólo existían 4 ba­ res que estaban siempre llenos.

Corky’s Bar se transformó en todo un referente en la noche surfera y desde entonces ha ido cambiando de local, casi siem­ pre en el corazón de Corralejo —el C.C. Atlántico Sol—, pero manteniendo el espíritu, que hace que año tras años locales, residentes y turistas busquen este bar para compartir buenos momentos en buena compa­ ñía. Corky siempre supo que necesitaba trabajar de noche, ya que es la única manera de poder navegar siempre, porque no soportaría la idea de tener que estar trabajando sabien­ do que hay buenas condiciones para el windsurf; así que el Corky’s Bar es una prolongación más de su amor por este apasionante deporte, un negocio que le permite llevar el esti­ lo de vida que quiere y que además gestiona encantado, por estar siempre rodeado de amigos.

El pasado 31 de diciembre, Corky’s Bar volvió a abrir sus puertas, esta vez en el local 25 del C.C. Atlántico Sol, para poder despedir el año 2013 y darle la bienvenida al 2014 en familia. ¿A qué esperáis para ir a visitarle?

Nicknamed as Corky —as according to his friends his style is similar to that of the famous Hawaiian surfer Corky Carroll—, Martin Robert Kirkham is a real legend of windsurf in our coasts.

His passion for this sport sprang by chance, as he doesn’t come from a family of water sport lovers; his father, with whom he spent the Summers in Spain, was the only one who once bought a windsurf board with the intention of learning how to sail, but as he didn’t like it in the end he decided to give the board to his son for him to play with it. Without realising it he had given him a tool that would change his son’s life, as the game turned into a passion and this passion marked out his path.

In the year 89 he decided to embark on his Spanish adventure and he went to Tarifa, living in a van for two years. He wanted to try the 70 km/h strong winds in the South of the peninsula in order to improve his technique, and he improved it so that he went back to England in the year 91 (Tiree island, in the west of Scotland) to take part in the British circuit, and the surprise was a first position that turned him into the British champion in the modality of Expression (tricks and jumps on waves).

The same year, after his victory, he decided to visit Fuerte­ ventura to spend a two-week holiday, attracted by the quality of the wind and the waves in our breakers. He fell so in love with our paradise that he went back home to

pack and come back to our island, where he has been living since then although he goes back to his dear British circuit to compete as often as he can, which has made him get two more victories in the years 92 and 95, as well as competitions and exhibitions in the impressive Earls Court in London, in a swimming pool with strong winds generated by fans where surfers show off his tricks enveloped by millions of camera flashes.

But his competitive spirit has taken him not just to his mother land, as we can see him competing in the Canarian circuit and also in competitions and invitationals taking place in our island; and although he has been all his life in this world, Corky prefers freelance surfing, with friends, in three meter high waves and strong winds for 4.7 sails.

He has travelled to thousands of places to practise his passion: many places in the Caribbean, like Puerto Rico, Hawaii, all of Spain, Ireland, Scotland... but nowhere like Fuerteventura regarding quality of life.

In the year 93 he decides to set up his first business in the island: Corky’s Bar, a spot where surfers and windsurfers used to gather at night to speak about the day, the jumps, the barrels... and comment on the expectations for the next day. They were times when Corralejo had his main

street covered by sand and palm trees and the spots were almost dessert, and at night you could only find 4 bars which were always full.

Corky’s Bar became a true reference in the surfers’ night, and since then it has been moving, almost always in the heart of Corralejo — C.C. Atlántico Sol—, but keeping the spirit that has made that year after year locals, residents and tourists alike look for this bar to share good moments in good company. Corky always knew he needed to work at nights, as it was the only way to

have time to sail, and he wouldn’t stand being working knowing that there were good conditions to surf; so, Corky’s bar was a one more proof of his love for this exciting sport, a business that allows him to carry out the life that he wants and that he runs with pleasure as he is always surrounded by friends.

Corky’s Bar opened its doors again on December 31st, this time in the local number 25 at CC. Atlántico Sol, to say goodbye to the year 2013 and welcome 2014 in a family setting. What are you waiting for to go and visit him?

Un yacimiento vierte luz sobre las prácticas funerarias de los antiguos mahos Entre los meses de septiembre y noviembre de 2012, tuvieron lugar unas excavaciones en un pequeño «solapón» de la zona de la Solana del Cuchillete, una de las laderas del Barranco de los Canarios (Pájara), después de que un perro cazador de la zona descu­ briera un cráneo humano.

Los restos pertenecen a 3 adultos y un niño de unos 10 años, y las fechas barajadas se sitúan entre los años 1040 y 1260. Restos de fémur, húmeros y cráneos, y la presen­ cia de utensilios de ajuar funerario, como piezas de cerámica, nos desvelan algunos de los posibles ritos funerarios de los ma­ hos y permiten constatar que el lugar fue utilizado por diferentes generaciones de un mismo grupo social.

En el fondo del solapón se identificaron restos de fuego y otros elementos, como cuentas de collares de conchas, anteriores a los depósitos funerarios, por lo que se su­ pone que esta zona también fue utilizada anteriormente como lugar de sacralización o simplemente como refugio estacional.

El material ha permitido conocer algunos hábitos de la vida de los mahos, como que permanecían mucho tiempo en cuclillas, transitaban sitios agrestes y padecían artri­ tis. También se han descubierto hábitos ali­ menticios que revelan que eran comedores de carne y pescado y, al contrario que en otras islas, no se han descubierto signos de que usaran cereales en su dieta.

A site sheds light on the ancient Mahos´ burial rites From September to November 2012, some excavations took place in a little ledge in the area of Solana del Cuchillete, one of the hillsides in «El Barranco de los Canarios» (Pájara), after a hound in this area found out a human cranium.

The remains belong to three adults and a ten-year-old boy, and they can be dated back between the years 1040 and 1260.

They are remains of femurs, ulnae, and craniums, and the presence of burial goods, such as ceramics, reveal some of the possible Mahos’ burial rites, and allow us to confirm that burial goods were used by several generations in the same social group.

At the bottom of the ledge some remains of fire and other elements could be identified, such as shell necklace beads, previous to burial goods, which is why we suppose that this area was also used in ancient times as a sacred space or just as a seasonal shelter.

The goods have allowed us to get to know some habits in the Mahos’ life, such as that of crouching for a long time, walking through the wilds of suffering from arthritis.

Eating habits that reveal that they were meat and fish eaters have also been found out and, unlike in other islands, there are no signs that they used cereals in their diet.

Aritz Aranburu: the first Spaniard at the top of surf After the last event of the year, the Billabong Pipe Masters, Aritz Aranburu has managed to classify for the World Championship Tour in 2014.

This turns him into the first Spanish surfer who will compete with the 32 best surfers in the world next year, thus making history in the Spanish surf.

Mirador astronómico en el municipio de Pájara La Montaña de Sisacumbre, en el municipio de Pájara, acogerá el primer mirador astro­ nómico de Fuerteventura, un espacio para la observación del firmamento y la divulga­ ción de conocimientos, que será el primero de lo que pretende ser una Red Insular de Miradores Astronómicos.

Aprovechando las inmejorables característi­ cas de nuestra isla —que la han transformado

en una reserva Starlight de la UNESCO— este proyecto pretende desmarcar a Fuerteventura una vez más del conocido turismo de sol y playa, para situarla como destino turístico sos­ tenible y de naturaleza. Este proyecto cuenta con una inversión de más de 70.000 euros y será el artista Juan Miguel Cubas el encarga­ do de la parte escultórica del proyecto.

En este mirador los visitantes no iniciados a la astronomía podrán jugar a descubrir las dimensiones a escala del sistema solar, es­ perar en el horizonte la salida de los astros e identificarlos, encontrar en un skyline los solsticios y equinocios,… mientras que los experimentados podrán encontrar allí los soportes necesarios para instalar sus pro­ pios telescopios y equipos fotográficos.

Astronomical observatory in the municipality of Pájara The mountain of Sisacumbre, in the municipality of Pájara, will be the site for the first astronomical observatory in Fuerte­ ventura, a space to watch the universe and to disseminate knowledge that will be the first one in what aims to be an insular network of astronomical observatories.

Taking advantage of the unbeatable characteristics in our island —which have turned it into Starlight reserve by the UNESCO— this project tries to dissociate Fuerteventura from sun and beach tourism to relate it with sustainable and nature tourist destinations. This project also counts on an investment of more than 70.000 euros, and the artist Juan Miguel Cubas will be in charge of the sculptural part of this project.

Conexión con 12 aeropuertos franceses Thalasso nº1, primer turoperador francés en volumen de tráfico y presencia en Fuer­ teventura, ha comunicado que el próximo año 2014 tendrá conexiones directas a nuestro destino desde 12 ciudades fran­ cesas: París, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Brest, Cle­ mont Ferrand, Deauville, Dijon, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes y Toulouse.

Blas Acosta, consejero de Turismo, expli­ ca que «es innegable que la apuesta de Thalasso nº1 por nuestra isla tiene mucho que ver con que Francia sea nuestro tercer mercado; con casi cien mil turistas galos el pasado año, cerraremos 2013 con una cantidad mayor y prevemos un crecimiento para el próximo ejercicio del 30%».

Además, desde finales del pasado mes de diciembre reforzará sus vuelos semanales con París para dar respuesta a la demanda.

Por otra parte, el promotor majorero en Fran­ cia ha participado estos días en el Salón Náu­ tico de París. En esta feria, Fuerteventura ha promocionado la oferta de la isla como com­ plemento al sol y playa más tradicional, dando a conocer la variedad de actividades que se pueden realizar en el mar de nuestra isla.

Flights to 12 French airports Thalasso number 1, first French tour-operator in traffic volume and presence in Fuerteventura, has revealed that next year, 2014, there will be direct flights to Fuerteventura from twelve French cities: París, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Brest, Clemont Ferrand, Deauville, Dijon, Lille, Lyon,

Marseille, Nantes and Toulouse.

Blas Acosta, minister of tourism, says that no doubt Thalasso number 1 betting on our island has a lot to do with the fact that France has become our third market; having held almost one hundred thousand tourists last year, we’ll close the year 2013 with a bigger quantity and we foresee a 30% growth for next year» Besides, from the end of last December, it will strengthen weekly flights to Paris in order to meet demand.

On the other hand, the majorero promoter in France has taken part these days in Paris yacht show. In this fair, Fuerteventura has promoted the island’s offer as a supplement to the most traditional sun and beach. The variety of activities that can be carried out in our island’s sea have been revealed.

El sábado 11, a partir de las 22:30h., contaremos con un trío de Blues —Israel García Power Trio—, donde la maestría de Is­ rael (Izzy) García (guitarra, Barcelona), se une al bajo de Chicco Parisi y a la batería de Leo Olivares, creando un mágico reper­ torio de Blues y Funk, famoso en sus solos por recorrer la espi­ na dorsal de los espectadores con escalofríos de emociones.

La noche del domingo 12, a partir de las 21h., nos brin­ dará el gran espectáculo de la banda de Jazz-Fusion Top Secret Project, compuesta por dos de los miembros del trío del sábado más otros 3 integrantes: Leo Olivares (batería, Cuba), Pedro Rivero (guitarra, Tenerife), Chicco Parisi (bajo, Italia), Nelson Sánchez (saxo, Venezuela) y Alexis Suárez Canciano (piano, Cuba), cinco grandes músicos de la escena majorera, provenien­ tes de diferentes partes del mundo, que decidieron unir­ se para formar esta banda que definen con la etiqueta musical de Jazz-Funk.

Forman así un grupo multicultural, rico por su variedad de nacionalidades y estilos musicales, con una base de jazz tra­ dicional salpicada de color y variedad en cada una de sus intervenciones individuales, marcadas por el virtuosismo y la limpieza de ejecución.

Son espectaculares las interpretaciones de Funky por su fuerza y capacidad para atraer la atención del público, y sus temas propios, de entradas brutales, no dejan indife­ rente al espectador.

La elegancia del sonido que interpretan los hace amol­ dables a cualquier tipo de escenario, desde festivales, a grandes locales o pequeños y acogedores bares, donde el sonido de sus notas te deja los sentidos a flor de piel, sin que haga falta ser un gran entendido para que te llegue la emoción de una música de semejante calidad artística.

Será todo un privilegio poder contar con esta gran banda en la noche Lajareña.

Thus they make up a multicultural group, rich for its variety of nationalities and musical styles, with a basis of traditional jazz sprinkled with colour and variety in every single intervention by each of its members, standing out by their technical mastery and clean performance.

Their funky interpretations are spectacular for their strength and ability to attract the audience’s attention, and for themes made by themselves with terrific starts which don’t leave the audience untouched.

The elegance of the sound they play makes them suitable for to any kind of stage, from festivities to big venues or cosy small bars where the sound of their notes make your senses feel alive, being not necessary to be a great connoisseur for music of such artistic quality to reach your emotions.

It will be a true privilege to be able to count on this great band in the «Lajareña» night.

Vivo en Madrid y hace unos años me compré una casita en Corralejo, cuando todavía volaba Easyjet desde Ma­ drid y me podía permitir el lujo hasta de ir los fines de semana, cosa que ahora ya no puedo hacer, ni aunque pudiera permitirme los precios de los billetes, porque los horarios son incompatibles con el trabajo (las salidas de los viernes son, en todos los casos, por la mañana).

Así hablaba el controvertido vocalista de los Sex Pistols, Jhonny Rotten, sobre el movimiento cultural que estaba revolucionando el concepto de cultura juvenil y que él mis­ mo ayudó a popularizar.

Eran los 70; el Flower Power, con su idea de paz y amor, se diluía en la corriente de música para las masas como el ácido en un azucarillo, dando paso a un nuevo tipo de artista: los Rock Star. La industria de la música había descubierto el filón que eran las estrellas del pop y el rock. Seres de otra galaxia que se movían en jets privados y limousines, haciendo gala de una vida de lujo y desenfreno, y de­ jando claro que eran los elegidos.

En la Gran Bretaña de la era pre Tatcher,­ el punk fue la respuesta de la juventud al desempleo masivo, el aburrimiento y la falta de futuro. El punk nos daba un sentido de auten­ ticidad y propósito. Era la imagen en el espejo que la sociedad mayoritaria no quería ver… Era divertido y de­ mocrático. Las bandas tocaban en escenarios a ras de suelo, tomaban tantas drogas como tú, bebían tan­ tas cervezas como tú, escupían tan lejos como tú y saltaban y empuja­ ban en el pogo junto a ti, cuando no estaban tocando.

Hoy en día recordamos el punk sobre todo por su estética agresiva y su mú­ sica estridente, sin embargo lo que pervive, aunque sea muy de fondo, es su idiosincrasia basa­ da en tres pilares: desobediencia a la autoridad, destrucción creativa y, lo que quizá resuma mejor toda la filosofía punk y que ha perdurado hasta hoy, la ética del «Hazlo Tú Mismo».

En 1976, en el Fanzine Sniffin’ Glue, respondían con una frase y un dibujo a las críticas que recibían por la música punk: «Esto es un acorde… esto es otro…y este el tercero.

Ahora forma una banda.»

Si no te gusta lo que hay, hazlo tú mismo; forma una banda, escribe un fanzine, graba tus propias maquetas, organiza un concierto… Nadie va a venir a regalarte nada, así que ponte las pilas. Hoy día esto puede pare­ cer una perogrullada, pero en las décadas de los 70 y 80, la sociedad no estaba acostumbrada a pensar por sí misma, ni veía con buenos ojos este tipo de libertinaje. El empode­ ramiento de la juventud era toma­ do por un ataque directo al orden establecido.

El paso del tiempo y los avances tecnológicos nos trajeron sofistica­ das herramientas y medios de crea­ ción, producción y distribución. Las guitarras se volvieron samplers, los fanzines blogs, los conciertos raves y con la llegada de la red, un infi­ nito medio de difusión de ideas y recursos.

Muchos de aquellos punks son hoy día hombres y mujeres con­ vertidos en agentes de cambio, que han contribuido a definir la forma en que creamos cultura, nos relacionamos o hacemos ne­ gocios en el siglo XXI. Demostrando así el poder de las ideas más simples y ayudando a derribar barreras y jerarquías. ¡El punk no ha muerto, larga vida al punk!

This is how the vocalist from Sex Pistols, Jhonny Rotten, speaks about the cultural movement that was shaking up the concept of youth culture and that he helped popularise.

It was in the 70’s; the Flower Power, with its ideal of peace and love, blurred in the music for the multitude just like the acid in a lump of sugar, giving place to a new kind of artist: The Rock Star. The music industry had found out the great economic potential that rock and pop starts represented.

They were beings from another galaxy travelling in private jets and limousines, boasting of a luxurious and immoderate life showing that they were the elects of God. It was the Thatcher era in Great Britain, punk was the youth’s answer to a mass unemployment, boredom and lack of future. Punk provided a sense of authenticity and achievement. It was the mirror image that the mainstream society didn’t want to see... it was fun and democratic. The bands performed on stages at ground level, took as many drugs as you, drank as much beer as you, spit out as far as you, and moshed beside you when they weren’t playing.

Nowadays we remember punk mainly for its aggressive aesthetics, its loud music, but what really survives, maybe only in the background, is its idiosyncrasy, based on three pillars: disobedience to authority, creative destruction and, what best sums up the punk philosophy and remains at present, the ethics of «Do it Yourself».

In 1976, in the Fanzine Sniffin’ Glue, they answered with a sentence and a drawing to the criticism they received for their punk music: «This is a chord.. this is another one... and this is the third one. Now, make a band».

If you don’t like what you find, do it yourself; make a band, write a fanzine, record your own rough cut, organize a concert... Nobody will give you anything, so get down to work. Nowadays this can seem a truism, but in the 70’s and 80’s society wasn’t used to thinking by itself, and they looked askance at this kind of licentiousness. The power of youth was considered as a direct attack on the established order.

The passage of time and technological advances brought us sophisticated tools and means of creation, production and distribution. Guitars became samplers, fanzines became blogs, concerts turned into raves, and with the advent of the network, an endless means of spreading ideas and resources appeared.

Many of those punks are nowadays men and women who have become agents of change contributing to define the way in which we create culture, we relate to one another or do business in the XXI century; thus they have proved the power of the simplest ideas and have helped break down barriers and hierarchies.

CONDICIONES DE USO

Si nos ponemos a pensar que solo en el municipio de La Oliva están censados la friolera de 6000 perros (la mayoría en Corralejo), más un 20% que se suponen no censados, y que las multas a sus dueños por pasearlos por las playas o descampados se van endureciendo cada vez más, nos encontramos ante una situación muy complicada, que a partir de este mes de enero puede empezar a solucionarse, gracias a la apertura del primer parque para perros en Corralejo.

Esta iniciativa surgió del pueblo y del Concejal de Obras y Servicios del Ayuntamiento de la Oliva, Miguel Van Daele, dada la necesidad imperiosa de disponer de un espacio donde todos estos perros pudieran esparcirse, no solo hacer sus necesidades, sino hacer ejercicio, socializar con otros perros… sin la presión de estar continuamente infringiendo la ley. Y gracias al apoyo del Ayuntamiento de La Oliva esta iniciativa se está haciendo posible y en pocos días veremos este parque para perros terminado y activo.

Miguel Darío —un vecino de Corralejo preocupado por esta situación, que ha investigado la forma en que se han hecho parques de este tipo en otras islas y en la península—, en colaboración con la asociación sin ánimo de lucro Fuerteventura Dog Rescue —que en la actualidad está colaborando con el Ayuntamiento en la gestión de la perrera municipal de La Oliva—, están poniendo muchísimas ganas e ilusión en llevar adelante este proyecto, que pretende ser una iniciativa de autogestión que no va a depender económicamente del Ayuntamiento, aunque para su lanzamiento están contando con ayudas de las instituciones, en lo que se refiere a la obtención de material reciclado para la configuración del espacio, palmeras cedidas por el Cabildo, y otras colaboraciones de empresas como

Una vez al mes está planeada una jornadamercadillo con Fuerteventura Dog Rescue, donde la asociación podrá mostrar a los perritos de la perrera, por si alguien quiere adoptarlos, y se harán diferentes actividades con los canes. Fuerteventura Dog Rescue hace un llamamiento a la conciencia general, sobre todo en estas fechas, para que no se regalen perros como si fueran juguetes. «Los perros representan una compañía y responsabilidad de la que nos tendremos que encargar por unos cuantos de años. No vale regalarle un perro a alguien para que se canse y al poco tiempo nos lo traiga a la perrera. La perrera no es una residencia ni un lugar de acogida; es un espacio limitado, con 15 jaulas y capacidad para 20 perros, así que en muchos casos es inevitable el sacrificio. Por favor, colaboremos todos para cambiar esta realidad».

Desde Macaronesia les deseamos mucha suerte con esta iniciativa práctica y pionera en la isla. Animamos a todo el mundo a que colabore y haga posible el buen funcionamiento del parque, ya que si todo va bien, será un ejemplo para la creación de otros parques caninos en más lugares de la isla.

El parque, situado en la Calle Jazmín, junto a la avenida Grandes Playas y el Centro Comercial El Campanario, contará con 5000 m2, divididos en diferentes zonas: zona de Pipican, zona de Agility, donde pueden hacer gimnasia y en la que de vez en cuando contarán con la presencia de profesionales que pueden ayudarnos con el adiestramiento de nuestros perros; una parte para PPP (perros potencialmente peligrosos), y el resto del parque será zona común para perros de menos de 40kg. También habrá una zona para niños de colegios, que van

- Los dueños de los perros serán responsables de la conducta de sus animales, de acuerdo con el artículo 1905 del Código Civil (El poseedor de un animal, o el que se sirve de él, es responsable de los perjuicios que causare, aunque se le escape o extravíe. Solo cesará esta responsabilidad en el caso de que el daño proviniera de fuerza mayor o de culpa del que lo hubiese sufrido).

- Los perros deberán estar todo el tiempo a la vista de sus dueños y dentro del alcance de su voz, debiendo tener el dueño en todo momento una correa en su poder.

- Los perros cualificados como potencialmente peligrosos (PPP) o de gran tamaño, siempre deben llevar su bozal reglamentario.

- Los dueños de los perros deben impedir que estos intimiden, amenacen o ataquen o otra persona o animal.

- No se permiten en el recinto perros con collares de puntas.

- Los perros que accedan al recinto habrán de tener sus vacunas actualizadas y no sufrir ninguna enfermedad o tener parásito alguno.

- Los dueños de los perros deberán llevar consigo, en todo momento, la tarjeta identificativa del animal.

- Los dueños deberán limpiar los excrementos de sus perros.

- Los perros deberán ir sujetos con correa al entrar y salir del recinto.

- Se prohíbe la entrada al recinto de las perras que se encuentren en celo.

- Los niños menores de 14 años que utilicen el recinto deberán ir acompañados de un adulto, bajo su responsabilidad.

- No se permite comida de ningún tipo en el interior del recinto.

- Se ruega hacer un uso responsable de las instalaciones.

If we think that just in La Oliva area there are around 6000 registered dogs (most of them are in Corralejo and around another 20% are probably not even registered) and that the fines for walking your dog on the beaches or rough ground are getting stricter and stricter, we find ourselves faced with a very complicated situation that, as from this month, could start to get better thanks to the opening of the first dog park here in Corralejo.

Agua de La Oliva and El Campanario Shopping Centre.

The park will be fenced off, with set opening hours (which at the beginning with be in the afternoons but may change over time depending on needs) and it will be supervised at all time by Miguel Darío to ensure that the park regulations are complied with. All users will also hav e to

It is also planned that once a month, Fuerteventura Dog Rescue will hold a market day where the association can show the dogs that are looking for new homes and various other activities with the dogs. The association also wishes to stress on the point, especially at this time of year, that dogs are not to be given like toys, «dogs mean company and a responsibility for many years. It´s no good giving a dog to someone who will get tired of it after a short while and just dump it at the shelter. The shelter is neither a dog hotel nor a foster home; it is a limited area of only 15 kennels with a capacity for 20 dogs, which means that sometimes dogs have to be put to sleep. Please let us all work together to help change this situation».

LA MIRADA SE LE CLAVABA FIJAMENTE EN LAS OBRAS DE MATISSE Y DE PICASSO, A QUIENES HOY RECONOCE COMO GRANDES INFLUENCIAS DE SU ARTE.

Ya en el colegio dibujaba todo el rato. Los bordes de sus cuadernos estaban plagados de diminutos dibujos y no es que no prestara atención a la lección de sus profesores, sino que la única manera que encontraba para concentrarse en lo que le decían era pintando.

Su paso por Martinica, donde vivió 3 años desde los 16, consiguió sacar de él la explosión del color, ya que esta isla caribeña es conocida como «la isla de las flores», y tras un bachillerato en la rama económico-social, decidió volver a Francia, donde comenzó a estudiar Bellas Artes en la universidad de Aix-en-Provence, motivado por las críticas de amigos de su padre que veían en sus cuadro un gran potencial que debía desarrollar. Sin embargo, según nos cuenta, por aquel entonces no había alcanzado la madurez mental necesaria para asimilar tanta historia del arte y decidió dejar la carrera.

Desde entonces dedicó su vida a múltiples profesiones, sin un rumbo concreto, hasta que en el año 2007 decidió venir a Fuerteventura con unos amigos para hacer bodyboard y pronto quedó prendado de este paisaje y su luz. Y ha sido aquí, en esta isla mágica de extensas superficies sin obstáculos visuales, donde ha descubierto que su pintura es mucho más que un hobby para él, y fuera de las convenciones y las formaciones académicas, ha conseguido, de una manera casi exclusivamente autodidacta, crear su estilo propio.

Se define a sí mismo como «colorista», lejos de la técnica y de la línea perfecta de los dibujantes, y reconoce que lo

suyo no es el dibujo. «Estoy descubriéndome a mí mismo y creo que tengo una especie de memoria visual, muchas veces inconsciente, de los colores. Al día veo miles de proyecciones de cosas que se fijan en mi mente como colores, que luego consigo plasmar en mis obras con mucha precisión. En un principio simplemente pintaba, sin analizar la obra, pero poco a poco me voy dando cuenta de que todo lo que pinto viene de cosas concretas que vivo, y ahora soy capaz de identificar en mi memoria casi todas las cosas que plasmo».

Como buen colorista busca plasmar la esencia a través de las manchas de color, la combinación de las mismas y las formas que generan, y entre los elementos que destacan en su obra vemos una clara representación del mar, del ser humano, de la música —que siempre le acompaña en sus noches creadoras— y de elementos naturales. Su técnica ha ido evolucionando desde los lápices, pastel y acrílico, hasta el óleo, que es con lo que pinta en la actualidad, y que combina con arena y objetos varios de reciclado que va encontrando en las playas (tapones, plásticos, maderas, chapas…).

Age: 31 years old Origin: La Seyne sur Mer (South of France) BORN IN A LAND OF PAINTERS AND HAVING A FATHER WHO WAS A PAINTER HIMSELF, JULIEN —KNOWN BY EVERYBODY AS YUYU— SPENT HOURS LOOKING AT PICTURES WHEN HE WAS A CHILD, IN HUNDREDS OF ART BOOKS THAT THERE WERE AT HOME. HE STARED AT THE WORKS BY MATISSE AND PICASSO, WHOM HE ACKNOWLEDGES AS GREAT INFLUENCES IN HIS ART.

Being at school he spent the whole time drawing. The frames of his notebooks were full of tiny drawings, and this didn’t mean that he wasn’t paying attention to his teachers, quite the opposite, he needed painting in order to concentrate.

The time he spent in Martinica, where he lived for 3 years from the age of 16 onwards, made him develop lively colours, as this Caribbean island is known as «the island of flowers», and after a high school diploma in the socio-economic branch he decided to go back to France, where he started to study Fine Arts in the University of Aixen Provence, motivated by the criticisms of this father’s friends, who could see in his pictures a great potential he had to develop. However, he says that by then he hadn’t achieved yet the necessary maturity to assimilate so much history of art, and he decided to drop out.

Since then he devoted to several professions, aimlessly, until in the year 2007 he decided to come to Fuerteventura with some friends to practise bodyboard and he soon fell in love with this landscape and its light. And it has been here, in this magic island of extensive surfaces free of visual obstacles, where he has found out that his painting is much more than a hobby for him, and away from conventions and academic education he has managed, mainly through self-study, to create his own style.

He defines himself as a colourist, far from the technique and the perfect line of drafts-men, and he admits that drawing is not his real thing. «I’m discovering myself and I think I have a kind of visual memory, often unconscious, of colours. Along the day I see thousands of projections that stick in my mind as colours and later on I can portray in my works very precisely.

In the beginning I just painted, without analysing the work, but little by little I realised that everything I paint comes from concrete experiences that I live, and now I can identify in my memory almost everything I paint» As a good colourist he tries to portray the essence through blotches of colour, their combination and the shapes they originate. Among the elements that stand out in his work we see a clear portrayal of the sea, the human being, the music —that always keeps him company in his creative nights— and natural elements. His technique has been developing from pencils, pastels and acrylics, to oil, which is what he uses at present and that he combines with sand and several recycled articles he finds on the beach (stoppers, plastic, wood, bottle caps...)

Food combinations: How to eat?

Existe la antigua idea popular de que una «buena comida» es aquella que tiene de todo: proteínas, carbohidratos, vitaminas, grasas y otros nutrientes. Esta idea presenta un problema principal, y es que cada alimento provoca una reacción digestiva diferente. Alimentos con grandes concentraciones de carbohidratos (azúcares y féculas) provocan medios digestivos alcalinos, mientras que alimentos con grandes concentraciones de proteínas provocan medios digestivos ácidos. Causar digestiones en las que el cuerpo produce los dos medios simultáneamente hace que la digestión sea sumamente ineficiente, por un medio neutro en el que ninguna enzima puede hacer su trabajo. De manera natural sucede esto con algunos alimentos como las leguminosas (alubias, frijoles, garbanzos…), ya que son alimentos que tienen grandes concentraciones de proteínas y carbohidratos (de ahí la fama de provocar gases, resultado de la indigestión).

There is an ancient popular thought that says that «a good meal» is that which includes a bit of everything: proteins, vitamins, fats and other nutrients. This idea poses a major problem, and this is that every food causes a different digestive reaction. Food with large concentration of carbohydrates (sugars and starches) provoke alkaline digestions, while food with large concentration of proteins provoke acid digestions. To provoke digestions where the body produces both kinds of juices simultaneously result into inefficient digestions where no kind of enzyme can work properly. This happens in a natural way with legumes (beans, kidney beans, chickpeas...), as they are food with high concentration of proteins and carbohydrates (this is why they give you gas, which is the result of indigestion).

Por otro lado, los tiempos de digestión también son muy importantes. Existen alimentos que son de muy fácil digestión, como las frutas, y otros que requieren procesos más prolongados, como las semillas, los vegetales y, por supuesto, los productos de origen animal.

Si nuestros hábitos de alimentación provocan siempre procesos digestivos ineficaces (como suele suceder), las consecuencias a largo plazo pueden ser estreñimientos, gastritis, colitis, úlceras, desnutrición, descalcificación, y muchas dolencias más, incluyendo cáncer gástrico.

Hay algunas reglas sencillas que hay que observar para favorecer digestiones eficientes cada vez que comemos: 1) Comer frutas frescas solas y con el estómago vacío: Comerlas de postre, con un estómago ocupado en una digestión prolongada, o combinadas con cualquier otra cosa (cereales, lácteos, carnes, etcétera) hará que se fermenten rápidamente y arruinarán toda la digestión.

2) Si se comen diferentes frutas en una sola comida, evitar comer frutas con niveles de acidez muy diferentes.

3) No comer en la misma comida alimentos concentrados en proteínas (productos animales, incluyendo lácteos, nueces, semillas) con alimentos concentrados en carbohidratos (panes, cereales).

Cuanto más simple sea nuestra comida, más fácil será de digerir. Las comidas complejas son verdaderos retos para nuestros tractos digestivos, muchos de ellos sin soluciones posibles.

El balance nutricional lo obtenemos por medio de la variedad entre diversas comidas y no en la misma.

There is food very easy to digest, like fruit, and some others that require longer periods of time, like cereals, vegetables and, of course, those derived from animals If our eating habits always provoke inefficient digestions (as it usually happens), the consequences in the long run can be constipation, gastritis, colitis, ulcers, malnutrition, de-calcification and many other illnesses, including stomach cancer.

There are some easy rules we must bear in mind to favour efficient digestions every time we eat: 1) Eating fresh fruit on its own, with an empty stomach: eating it as dessert or combining it with other food (cereals, dairy products, meat etc) will make it ferment very quickly and will ruin the whole digestion.

2) If you eat different kinds of fruit in a single meal, avoid having fruits with different degrees of acidity.

3) Don’t eat, in the same meal, food with high concentration of proteins (animal products, including diary products, nuts, seeds) and that with high concentration of carbohydrates (bread and cereals).

The simpler our food the easier it will be to digest it.

Complex food is a real challenge to our digestive tracts, many of them without possible solutions.

We achieve a nutritional balance through variety among the different meals, not within the same one.

El 90% de las mujeres puede tener celulitis —desestructuración del tejido conectivo de la piel—, provocada por la acción de las hormonas y agravada por diversos factores concomitantes. En un inicio se relentiza la microcirculación de la piel, que lleva a un aumento de la permeabilidad de los vasos más pequeños, originando edema (líquido estancado fuera de la circulación). Con el tiempo se altera el metabolismo del tejido conectivo, así que los pequeños cambios acaban determinando, a largo plazo, la aparición del «poceado» característico de la «piel de naranja». La herencia es relevante y factores como el sobrepeso, el cigarrillo, el alcohol, malos hábitos alimentarios, sedentarismo, ropa ajustada y calzado inadecuado empeoran el cuadro. Suele comenzar en la adolescencia, coincidiendo con el aumento de las hormonas, y se prolonga hasta la menopausia, sufriendo empeoramiento durante el embarazo. Son frecuentes la pesadez y congestión en las piernas e incluso puede causar dolor.

90% of women can have cellulite —de-structuring of the connective tissue of the skin— caused by the action of the hormones and aggravated by several concomitant factors. At the beginning, the micro circulation of the skin slows down, which causes an increase in the vascular permeability in the smallest vessels originating oedemas (accumulation of fluid in the inter-cellular spaces of the tissue). Over time the metabolism of the connective tissue is altered, so the little changes end up determining, in the long run, the characteristic dimpled or «orange-peel» appearance. Genetics is relevant, and factors such as overweight, smoking, alcohol, bad eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, tight clothes and inadequate shoes make it worse.

Cellulite usually starts in adolescence, coinciding with the increase of hormones and it goes on until menopause, worsening in case of pregnancy. Venous congestion and heaviness on legs are frequent, they can even cause pain.

La Mesoterapia es una buena ayuda terapéutica en el tratamiento de la celulitis. ¿Cómo se realiza? Consiste en la aplicación —por vía intradérmica, con micro agujas finísimas (indoloro), sobre las zonas a tratar (caras externa e interna de muslos, rodillas, abdomen…)—, de un preparado que cuenta con carnitina, alcachofa, cafeína…, sustancias con fines lipolíticos, anticelulíticos y reafirmantes. Este tratamiento puede hacerse en conjunto con la cavitación, llamándose a esta terapia combinada MESO-CAVITACIÓN. ¿Cuándo se realizará este tratamiento? Se realiza en casos de celulitis y en grasa localizada. ¿Tiene efectos secundarios? La aparición de hematomas en las zonas de punción es probable, lo que se soluciona de manera espontánea con el paso de los días.

Al terminar el tratamiento… El paciente se reincorpora a su vida normal inmediatamente. La celulitis no se cura, así que el objetivo del tratamiento es mejorar el «poceado», revirtiendo el grado del mismo, siendo indispensable realizar una dieta sana y armónica (frutas, verduras, carne magra, cereales, lácteos descremados, abundante agua y reducir la sal). Se debe realizar regularmente actividad física, incluyendo ejercicios aeróbicos durante al menos treinta minutos, dos veces por semana. Se sugiere natación, bicicleta y spinning, entre otros.

Mesotherapy is a good therapeutic help in the treatment of cellulite.

How is it practised? It consists of an intra-dermal application —using very thin micro-needles (pain-free treatment) on the areas to be treated (inner and outer sides of the thighs, knees, abdomen... )— of a preparation made of carnitine, artichoke, caffeine... and having lipolytic, anti-cellulite and reaffirming effects.

This treatment can be carried out along with cavitation, this combined therapy being known as MESO-CAVITATION. When can this treatment be applied? It is applied on cellulite and on localized fat deposits.

Does it have any side effects? The appearance of bruises on puncture sites is probable, but they go away on their own within days.

On finishing the treatment... the patients go back to their daily life immediately after the treatment. Cellulite has no cure, so the aim of this treatment is to improve the dimpled appearance, reverting its degree, a harmonious and healthy diet being indispensable (fruits, vegetables, lean meat, cereals, skimmed dairy products, lots of water and very little salt). You must exercise regularly, including aerobics for, at least, thirty minutes twice a week. Swimming, bike and spinning, among others, are recommended.
