aska: bolsos y creaciones en tela

Julia Puranen aska: bags and clothing creations Julia es de un pueblo —de nombre impronunciable— del sur de Finlandia, a la que muchos conocemos porque vende bolsos y demás creaciones en tela por distintos mercadillos y tiendas de la Isla. Antes de llegar a Fuerteventura se dedicó a viajar por el mundo, buscando un lugar donde quedarse, que tuviera un clima cálido durante todo el año y en el que hubiera posibilidades laborales. En uno de esos viajes llega a Fuerteventura y a los seis días de aterrizar en la Isla tenía casa y trabajo. Con el tiempo, decidió hacer de Fuerteventura su hogar. Julia estudió fotografía y en un principio intentó hacer foto de surf, pero en menos de un año empezó a trabajar en hostelería, ya que no vio que fuera fácil vivir de ello. Durante su etapa en la hostelería le daba vueltas a la idea de que toda la energía que le dedicaba al trabajo podría enfocarla en crear algo suyo, motivada además porque su familia se mueve en trabajos creativos y siempre le llamó la atención el proceso creativo creativo en sí. De esta manera, un día, buscando un bolso, no encontró ninguno que le gustara y decidió hacérselo ella misma; a la gente le gustó esta primera pieza y empezaron a hacerle encargos. Dándose cuenta de que había mercado, armándose de valor, deja el trabajo y empieza a crear su propia línea de bolsos, carteras, fundas de gafas y de móviles,... bajo el nombre comercial de aska. Sus bolsos son piezas hechas a mano que destacan por esas telas nórdicas muy coloridas y divertidas que se trae de Finlandia, siempre intentando no repetir diseño para no aburrir.4

se y ofrecer originalidad. Atraen a residentes y a turistas, y lo bueno de estos últimos es que su pieza creada en Fuerteventura viaja al mundo, a sitios muy diversos. Con ese modo de vida lleva ya 3 años y por el camino consiguió el carnet de artesana, lo que también le permite vender sus creaciones en las tiendas de artesanía del Cabildo; además cada sábado la puedes encontrar en el Mercado Artesanal de Los Lajares, los domingos en el Mercado del Campanario y los martes en el Mercado del Hotel Barceló; también puedes pedirle tu encargo personalizado. Julia sabe que el hecho de vivir en Fuerteventura le permite llevar esta forma de vida, ya que aquí el dinero no es tan importante como en otros sitios y tiene claro que con este negocio probablemente no será rica, pero sí libre y dueña de su tiempo. Aún habiendo empezado en plena crisis, siente que estos 3 años que lleva trabajando en su casa-estudio, para crear sus bolsos y carteras, son hasta día de hoy los mejores años en la Isla. Actualmente Julia está preparando su página web mientras sigue trabajando en sus bolsos y en nuevas creaciones. Y, entre manos o entre agujas, podemos avanzar que tiene un proyecto de diseño, siempre relacionado con lo textil, que estamos deseando ver en la calle y que está poniendo en marcha con su amiga Valentina. Julia is from a village with an unpronounceable name in the South of Finland, which many of us know because of the bags and clothing creations they sell all over the several street markets in the Island. Before getting to Fuerteventura she travelled around the world looking for a place to settle, with warm weather all the year through and where there were possibilities to work. In one of these trips she got to Fuerteventura and six days later she already had a house and a job. In time she decided to make Fuerteventura become her home. Julia had studied photography, in the beginning she tried to shot surf pictures, but in less than one year she started to work in the hotel industry, as it wasn’t easy to make a living out of photography. During this stage she couldn’t stop thinking that all the energy she devoted to her job could be focused on creating a business of her own, also motivated by her family, who had always carried out creative jobs, and this creative process had always appealed to her. So, one day, looking for a bag, she couldn’t find any that she liked and decided to make it herself; people liked this first creation, and they started to make orders. Realizing that there was a market and gathering courage she left her job and started to create her own line of bags, purses, glasses and mobile cases... under the commercial name of aska. Her bags are handicrafts which stand out because of those colourful and funny Northern fabrics she brings from Finland, always trying not to repeat the design not to get bored and thus offer originality. They

appeal to residents and tourists alike, and the good thing about tourists is that a piece that has been created in Fuerteventura travels around the world. She has been living like this for three years now, and meanwhile she got her artisan license, which allows her to sell her creations in craft shops belonging to the Inter-island Council. Moreover, you can find her every Saturday in the Craft Market of Los Lajares; on Sundays, in the market of El Campanario, and on Tuesdays, in the market of El Barceló. You can also make your personalized order. Julia knows that the fact of living in Fuerteventura allows her to carry out this way of life, as money here is not as important as elsewhere and she is aware that this business won’t make her become a rich woman, but she will be free and the master of her own time. Even though she started off at the height of the crisis she feels that these three years she has been working in her home studio creating bags and purses are, up to date, the best years in the Island. At present, Julia is making her web page while she keeps on working in her bags and new creations. And, between hands and needles, we can anticipate that she has a design project, always related to the textile industry, we are looking forward to seeing released and which she is carrying out with her friend Valentina. De familia marinera afincada en Ajuy, empieza a mamar tradición y respeto por el océano desde la más tierna infancia. Es de todos sabido el gran temor que sienten las gentes de mar por las rompientes y los rebosos de estas costas, que muy a menudo se ven azotadas por la furia de un Atlántico cambiante y violento, que al mínimo despiste puede arrastrar hasta al más veterano marino.

Con su padre y su abuelo iba a pescar, primero como un juego pero, ya con 14 años, al dejar los estudios, el juego se convirtió en trabajo y el mar en fuente de sustento. Desde los 12, armado con una vieja tabla de windsurf, de esas de tres metros, que un alemán le regaló, empezó a hacer sus pinitos entre las fuertes orilleras de Ajuy, luchando como podía contra las rápidas rompientes y contra la incomprensión de sus familiares que no podían entender qué se le había perdido entre las olas. Cada vez que salía a la mar en busca de pescado, sus ojos salían en busca de marcas blancas que alertasen sobre la posibilidad de una baja surfeable, y así poco a poco fue

es que, al ser pueblos muy pequeños, cuando uno hacía algo el resto de los amigos se apuntaba, y así surgió un grupo de jóvenes ansiosos por descubrir las bondades de este nuevo deporte en una costa casi virgen. Con los años muchos de ellos lo han dejado, las responsabilidades y compromisos los han separado del surfing, pero de vez en cuando aún se encuentra con la cara de alguno de estos viejos amigos en el agua y su corazón se llena de alegría al aflorar en su cabeza los recuerdos de aquella época. Progresivamente el surf pasó a formar una parte muy importante de su vida, intentando surfear lo máximo posible entre jornada y jornada de pesca, y empezaron las prime-

descubriendo los tesoros de la costa oeste. Luego llegaban los inviernos y la flota se trasladaba para Jandía: ahora tocaba descubrir las olas de la Punta a bordo del pequeño pesquerito. Unos no podían quitar los ojos del aparejo y él no podía apartarlos de la línea de costa, mientras soñaba con los muros líquidos que se escondían tras cada punta. Siempre que tenía ocasión iba a surfear, con gente de Ajuy, Pájara, Jandía y Gran Tarajal. Estos marcaron sus inicios y

ras acampadas por el Norte, y las primeras escapadas a Lobos; después Lanzarote, Gran Canaria y Tenerife. Pasó varios años viviendo en distintos lugares del sur de la Isla, pero decidió afincarse en Corralejo, donde encontró el equilibrio entre las olas y el modo de vida: le gusta el aspecto cosmopolita y festivo del pueblo, donde conviven gentes de todo el mundo. Confiesa que para surfear ya tiene Fuerteventura y, cuando

viaja, su prioridad no son las olas, pues «como aquí difícil surfear en otros sitios». Así que cuando sale, aprovecha para conocer otras cosas, aunque sí que ha ido un par de veces a Marruecos a coger olas, viajes de los que guarda gratos recuerdos, y ahora tiene programado el surfari con el que lleva soñando desde los 18 años. Una vida pegada al mar le ha llevado a tener un conocimiento y respeto muy profundo sobre el océano, y aunque ahora ya no se dedica a la pesca de manera profesional, muchas veces deja boquiabiertos a los amigos cuando

descarga la pesca en el pantalán. También muertos de envidia quedan muchos surfistas que ven cómo se hincha a reventar las olas de Lobos y es que él lo tiene claro; hace 20 años iba a Lobos y cogía 30 olas en una hora, y ahora va a Lobos y sigue cogiendo 30 olas en una hora.

rafael david artero figueroa Age: 38 years old Origin: Ajuy The relationship of Figue and the sea begins to take shape when he was born 38 years ago, in a little fishermen’s village in the wild environment of the Western coast of Fuerteventura. Coming from a settled sailor family in Ajuy, he absorved tradition and respect for the ocean from a very early age. Everybody is aware of how afraid people living by the sea are of breakers and overflowing in these coasts, as they are many times threatened by the rage of a changing and violent Atlantic Sea, which can sweep along even the most experienced sailor in an unguarded moment. He used to go fishing with his father and grandfather; at first it was like a game, but when he was 14 and he left school the game became his job, and the sea became his source of sustenance.

Since he was 12, with an old windsurf board, three meters long, given by a German surfer, he started to take his first steps among the strong shore waves in Ajuy, fighting as he could against the quick breakers and the incomprehension of his relatives who couldn’t understand why waves were so exiting for him. Every time he went fishing his eyes were looking for white stains, evidences of a possible surfing low tide, and that way, little by little, he got to know the treasures of the Western coast. Then winters came and the fleet moved to Jandia: now he had to find out the waves in Punta, on board of his little fishing boat. Some people could not turn aside from the rigging. He could not turn aside from the coast line as he dreamt of the liquid walls hidden behind each crest. Every time he could he went surfing with people from Ajuy, Pájara, Jandia and Gran Tarajal. They marked his beginning: being very small villages, when one carried something out the rest of friends joined him, and that way a group of youngsters was born, eager to find out the kindness of this new sport in an almost virgin coast. In time, many of them left it, responsibilities and commitments set them apart from surfing, but from time to time he still finds some of these old friends in the water, and his heart gets full of joy when memories from that time come back to his head. Little by little surf became a very important part of his life, and he tried to surf as much as he could in between every fishing day; then the first camping in the North and the first escapes to Lobos started; after that, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife. He spent several years living in different spots in the South of the Island, but he decided to settle in Corralejo, where he found a balance among waves and way of life: he likes the village’s cosmopolitan and festive atmosphere, where people from all over the world coexist. He admits that he surfs in Fuerteventura, but when he travels waves are not his priority: «it’s difficult to surf elsewhere like here», he says. So, when he travels he takes advantage of the opportunity to get to know other things, although he has gone to Marruecos to catch some waves a couple of times; he keeps nice memories of these travels, and now he has arranged a surfari he has been dreaming of since he was 18. A life joined to the sea has brought him a deep knowledge and respect for the ocean, and although he doesn’t fish professionally any more he still leaves his friends open-mouthed when he unloads his fishing in «el Pantalán». He also makes many surfers turn

green with envy when they witness him crashing waves in Lobos, and this is because his objectives have always been clear to him; 20 years ago he went to Lobos and could catch 30 waves per hour, and now he goes to Lobos and he keeps catching 30 waves per hour. El pasado 24 de febrero tuvo lugar, en la playa de Miraflores de Lima, Perú, la segunda edición del Mundial de SUP de la ISA. A pesar de las dificultades que atravesó el equipo español, que sufrió la pérdida del material por parte de la compañía aérea, cabe destacar la excelente actuación del norteño de Fuerteventura, Pablo Valencia, del equipo Onexe de Stand Up Paddle —varias veces Campeón de Canarias y Subcampeón de España 2012 de SUP de olas—, que quedó en la posición

16 de 39 competidores. También hay que hablar de la brillante actuación de la canaria Iballa Ruano Moreno, medalla de bronce en la modalidad de olas, Laura Quetglas (mallorquina), dos medallas de cobre, Román Frejo (navarro), noveno puesto en la beach race, Tino Aja (cántabro) con un puesto 30 en olas y Belar Díaz (catalán) con un puesto 10 en larga distancia. El nivel general conseguido por el equipo español nos situó en una posición 11 del ranking general.

SUP wave paddlers in the world

The last 24th February took place - in the beach of Miraflores in Lima, Peru- the second World ISA SUP championship. In spite of the difficulties underwent by the Spanish team, the loss of the equipment by the air company, we must highlight the excellent performance by the Fuertevetura’s northerner, Pablo Valencia, from the Stand Up Paddle team Onexe — Champion for several times in the Canary Islands and runner up in Spain 2012 in SUP Wave— getting the 16th position out of 39 participants. We must also highlight the brilliant performance by the Canarian Iballa Ruano Moreno, bronze medal in the waves modality; Laura Quetglas (Majorcan), two bronze medals; Román Frejo (from Navarra), ninth position in the beach race; Tino Aja (Cantabrian), 30th position in waves, and Belar Díaz (Catalonian), 10th position in long distance. The general standard got by the Spanish team placed us on the 11th position in the general ranking.

Este mes contamos, en nuestra Isla, con una dura prueba de la Challenge de triatlón, organizada por Playitas Resort. Esta carrera es la perfecta para que los triatletas europeos, que quieran ponerse a prueba, comiencen su temporada. Duras condiciones, mezcladas con un espectacular paisaje volcánico, las aguas azules del Atlántico y los pintorescos pueblos de Tuineje, Pájara y Gran Tarajal. Sin duda no es la carrera más fácil en la Challenge Family y, por supuesto, refleja lo que se dice comúnmente en Fuerteventura,...una carrera que te lleva a tu límite.

This month we count on a hard race of triathlon Challenge in our island, organized by Playitas Resort. This race is perfect for the European Triathletes, wanting to test temselves, to start their training. Hard conditions intermingled with a spectacular volcanic landscape, the blue waters from the Atlantic and pictorial villages like Tuineje, Pájara and Gran Tarajal. No doubt, this isn’t the easiest race in the Challenge Family, and of course it reflects what is usually said in Fuerteventura,...a race that takes you to the limit.

EDAD: 33 AÑOS, 22 PATINANDO. PROCEDENCIA: LA CORUÑA, LA CIUDAD DONDE NADIE ES FORASTERO. José Luis Corral, Pollo, como le conoce todo el mundo, tenía 11 añitos cuando vio a un chico con una tabla old school, subiéndose a un bordillo de ollie y haciendo un 360, que le dejó prendado para siempre. A partir de ahí se juntó con los mayores de Coruña, que patinaban en una plaza del centro de la cuidad que se convertiría, durante décadas, en su hogar. Hace dos años llegó con su novia Cristina a Fuerteventura, de camino a Brasil, y les gustó tanto la tranquilidad del pueblo de Corralejo y las olas, que decidieron quedarse un tiempo para probar. ¿Qué prefieres en la práctica de este deporte? Desde mis comienzos siempre he patinado todo lo que se pueda patinar: rampa, vertical, skatepark, street y flatear (trucos en el suelo), que de ahí es de donde viene la magia, porque si no sabes hacer trucos en el suelo, lo más probable es que no salgan en rampas o planos inclinados; el aprendizaje tiene un orden. ¿Cuáles han sido tus sponsors? Estuve patrocinado por DVS, Circa, Lakai, Egho, Nomad, Habitat, Alien Workshop, Krokeed y alguna que se me olvida. También estuve 8 años en Jart Skateboards y en el equipo español de Adio como pro, hasta que la marca quebró y luego justo me vine a Fuer Fuerteventura. Ahora patino con una ayuda de Converse, que se ofrecieron al verme patinar en el Circuito Canario de Skate, y con mis tablas de la tienda, que me van muy perfect. ¿Cómo ha cambiado este mundo desde que empezaste? Pillé todos los cambios que hubo en el skate, desde que las tablas eran old school, sin nose, con zapatillas de colores fosforitos, muy «Thrashin» (película que recomiendo a todos); luego eran tablas con forma de pepino, ruedas muy .12

pequeñas y pantalones muy anchos, y la gente más punky y con menos postureo. Ahora las tablas tienen más nose que tail y la evolución de los trucos ha cambiado mucho, como en todos los deportes. ¿A qué te dedicas en la actualidad? Estamos muy involucrados con la tienda (Newblood skateshop) en la que vendemos todo tipo de accesorios de skate, zapatillas, ropa, etc. Además estamos empezando con clases de skate, donde los chavales aprenden las modalidades del deporte en todos sus niveles, desde iniciación hasta competición. Apoyando el skate local y a las nuevas promesas, porque los jóvenes son el futuro, de ahí el nombre de la tienda: sangre nueva, que significa nueva generación. ¿Cómo te parece la promoción y ayudas que recibe este deporte en nuestra isla? Poco a poco se van haciendo cada vez más cosas por este deporte. Junto con otros skaters hemos formado una asociación para promoverlo en Fuerteventura y poder pedir mejoras, ya que el skatepark se encuentra muy anticuado, en relación a lo que se construye fuera de aquí. Además desde la tienda estamos apoyando a los jóvenes skaters con patrocinios y facilitán-doles sus primeros sponsors.. Entre otros, en el equipo de New Blood contamos con Aday, una jovencísima promesa del skate majorero, con impresionantes resultados en el Circuito Canario de Skate, que se celebró a lo largo del verano, y que ahora patina para BD y New Blood. Algo mas… Me gustaría dar las gracias al AyuntamienAyuntamien to de La Oliva (deportes y festejos), a todos los que no patinan y nos están apoyando mucho para que la gente conozca mejor este deporte tan bonito y que tanta piña hace entre los niños y no tan niños, a todos los skaters de Fuerteventura, ellos saben bien quiénes son, y, como no, a ustedes por esta entrevista. AGE: 33 YEARS OLD. HE HAS BEEN SKATING FOR 22 YEARS. ORIGIN: LA CORUÑA, THE CITY WHERE NOBODY IS A VISITOR. José Luis Corral, Pollo, as everybody knows him, was only 11 when he saw a boy on an old school board, ollying off a kerb and making a 360, which got him hooked on it forever. From that moment he joined older boys in Coruña, who used to skate at downtown square, and this would become his home for some decades. Two years ago he arrived in Fuerteventura with his girlfriend Cristinna, on their way to Brasil, and they loved the peace and quiet of Corralejo so much that they decided to stay for a while to try it. What do you like best in the practice of this sport? From the beginning I have always skated every possible surface: vertical slopes, skatepark, street and flatting (playing tricks on the ground), as here is where magic arises; if you can’t play skate flat tricks, you will hardly play them on slopes or ramps; learning must take place step by step. Who have been your sponsors? I have been sponsored by DVS, Circa, Lakai, Egho,Nomad, Habitat, Alien Workshop, Krokeed and some others I forget. I was also 8 years in Jart Skateboards and in the Adio Spanish team as a pro, until the brand broke off and then I came to Fuerteventura. Now I’m skating with some financial support from Converse, who offered some sponsorship after they saw me in the Canary Islands Skating Circuit, and some boards from this shop, which are perfect for me. How has this world changed since you began? I found on my way all the changes in skate, from noseless old school boards, fluorescent colour trainers, very much like in «Thrashin» ( a film I recommend everybody); then cucum-

ber skate boards, very small wheels and wide trousers, closer to punks, not so concerned about posture. Nowadays there is more nose than tail in the boards, and tricks have changed a lot, as in every sport. What do you do now? We are devoted to our shop (Newblood Skateshop) where we sell every kind of skating accessories, trainers, clothes, etc. We are also starting out skate lessons, where young people learn about the different modalities of this sport at any stage, from beginners to high competition. We are supporting the local skate and the new promises, as young people are the future, hence the name of the shop: new blood, meaning new generation. What do you think of the promotions and financial support this sport gets in our island? Little by little objectives are being reached. We have made up a skaters association to promote this sport in Fuerteventura and ask for improvements, as the skatepark is really old-fashioned if we compare it to the ones you can see somewhere else. Moreover, from our shop we are providing some financial support to young skaters, making it easy for them to get their first sponsorships. We count, among others, on Aday, a very young promise in our majorero skating team, getting impressive marks in the Canary Island skating circuit, which took place last summer, now skating for BD and New Blood. Anything else... I would like to thank the Town Hall in La Oliva (sports and festivities department), people who don’t skate and are helping so that we get a more indepth knowledge of this sport, which joins so many children and adults too; also all the skaters in Fuerteventura, they know well who they are and, of course, you for this interview. Tenemos una perrita de Aguas Español llamada Xana, tiene cuatro meses pero lleva sólo dos con nosotros. El problema que tenemos es que come con muchísima ansiedad. Hemos probado veinte mil maneras pero no ha habido forma. Estamos preocupados porque sabemos que le puede traer muchas complicaciones a la larga... ¡y ya no sabemos qué más hacer! Nos gustaría poder educarla para que comiera sin tanta ansiedad. Si pudieras ayudarnos en la medida de lo posible...

We have a Spanish water spaniel called Xana. She's four months old but she has been with us for just two so far. The problem we have is that she gets very anxious over her food. We have tried many different things but there is no way to fix this anxiety. We are worried because we know this can bring her many problems in the long run... and we don't know what else we can try! RESPUESTA POR ALBA MIQUEL: Lo único que os puedo aconsejar en este caso es que cuando esté comiendo no la toquéis ni le hagáis caso, simplemente alejaros de ella y dejadla comer tranquila. Si se comporta así desde cachorro es posible que sea porque cuando estaba con los hermanos comían todos juntos y se desesperaban en tragar rápido para que los demás no se lo quitaran. Si vosotros hacéis lo mismo y le quitáis el plato cuando engulle, lo único que conseguiréis es que la próxima vez aún coma con más ansiedad. Otra cosa que podéis hacer es pedirle que se siente antes de ponerle el plato y darle otra orden para que empiece a comer. Que no se acerque a la comida hasta que le deis la orden. Luego dejadla tranquila. De esta manera también aprende a auto-controlarse. Con el tiempo, si ve que nadie se lo quiere quitar puede reducir esa ansiedad. Por último podéis probar a ponerle el pienso en un plato especial diseñado para eso. Son platos con una forma específica que impiden que el perro pueda meter el hocico del todo, así se entretiene cogiendo los granitos de pienso y mastica más lentamente, en un veterinario lo podéis encontrar. Cuando un perro presenta estas ansias por la comida, no hay que darle absolutamente nada de la mesa porque puede llegar a ser insoportable. Hay perros que empiezan a lloriquear, ladrar, saltar… hacen cualquier cosa para llamar la atención y que se les recompense. Si le damos algo en ese momento para que se calle, lo único que conseguiremos es que lo repita. Es muy importante darse cuenta de los problemas que un perro pueda ocasionar desde cachorro y solucionarlo cuanto antes porque con el tiempo esas conductas empeoran.

The only advice I can give you in this case is not to touch or watch her while she is eating, just go away and let her eat peacefully. If she has always behaved this way it may be because when she was a puppy and was with her litter mates she had to fight and swallow quickly to ensure food. If you do the same and take her food bowl away when she is wolfing down the only result could be that next time she will show even more anxiety. Another thing you can do is to ask her to sit down before feeding her and then teach her she can only start eating after you give her the order. She must not approach the food bowl until you give the order for her to do it. Then leave her alone. That way she will also learn self-control. In the long run, when she realises nobody takes her food away from her this anxiety may be reduced. And lastly you can try to feed her in a bowl specially designed for this purpose. They have a special shape that prevents the dog from fitting in the whole snout, so the dog must manage to pick up their food and chew it more slowly. You can find it at the vet's. When a dog suffers this food anxiety you must never feed him your own food because it can become unbearable. Some dogs start whining, barking and jumping... anything to draw your attention and get their reward. If at this moment we feed them to keep them quiet, we will only get the repetition of this behaviour. It's very important to notice the problems a dog may cause from the moment they are puppies, and find the solution as soon as possible, as behaviour may get worse when they become adults.

En abril de 2017 expira la concesión administrativa otorgada por la Dirección General de Costas a este complejo hotelero. Y resulta que está todo el mundo movilizado porque se van a eliminar 400 puestos de trabajo. Pero digo yo, esos puesto se crearán en otros hoteles, porque no creo que el número de camas de Fuerteventura vaya a disminuir. Desde mi punto de vista ese Hotel es un sacrilegio para la naturaleza, no entiendo que tenga que haber una construcción de este tipo en un Parque Natural, aunque fuera declarado Parque Natural después de su construcción. Además, si se les permite quedarse, muchas empresas hoteleras se preguntarán por qué tiene que gozar RIU de este privilegio. También veo injusto que tantas personas se queden sin trabajo, pero para mí la solución pasaría por poner especial empeño en recolocar a todo este personal lo antes posible.

In April 2017 the authorization granted by the Dirección General de Costas to this hotel complex will expire and everybody is mobilizing because 400 job positions will be removed. But I think that these positions will be created in other hotels, because the number of beds needed in Fuerteventura will not decrease. From my point of view, this hotel is a sacrilege for nature; I can’t understand why there should be a building like that in a Natural Park, although it were declared Natural Park after its construction. Moreover, if they are allowed to stay, many hotel companies will wonder why RIU should enjoy this privilege. It is also unfair that so many people lose their jobs, but I think the solution would be to put an effort into relocating the staff as soon as possible.

Tienes que llegar siempre hasta la rotonda, lo que supone una pérdida de tiempo y sobre todo de gasolina. Y resulta que luego estamos en contra de las prospecciones. En vez de agilizar el tráfico lo están entorpeciendo.

This month of April, Tagoror bookshop recommends the book «Búscame donde nacen los dragos», by Emma Lira, Plaza & Janés editorial. Marina has just separated from the man of her life. Cada día se despierta con el mismo pensamiento desde hace años: «Tengo que parar esto». Cuando se vive en la dualidad se soportan muchos cargos de conciencia. La gente puede pensar que es de mal corazón estar viviendo una doble vida. Por eso lo hace a escondidas, nadie lo sabe; sólo él conoce su secreto y sólo él sufre las consecuencias de conocerlo. Y entre cavilación y cavilación, se da cuenta de que ha emprendido de nuevo el camino que ya tiene sus huellas marcadas. Al llegar a casa de Marta ésta le mira con los ojos brillantes, casi fuera de las órbitas de la emoción. Se deshace de ternura y lo estrecha contra su pecho diciéndole: «¿Dónde has estado?». Ya no le da vueltas a su dilema, sabe que su destino es así y que en unos días volverá a casa de Raquel. Pero en este momento es feliz aquí y no quiere romper la magia. Se relame y, empujando con el hocico su cuenquito de comida, se prepara para recibir la sabrosa ración de pienso que tiene preparada para él.

Fincas solidarias

Más de 500.000 m2 (con 10.000 m2 de invernadero) forman el terreno de gavias cultivadas por la iniciativa «Fuerteventura Solidaria» para ayudar a los más necesitados. Una iniciativa impulsada por la Fundación Alumnos Solidarios, desde el pasado mes de septiembre, con el apoyo del Cabildo, Ayuntamientos, ONG’s y muchos particulares e instituciones, que pretende distribuir lo producido en los cultivos entre los más necesitados de nuestra isla. Gracias a este proyecto además, los alumnos pueden aprender las características del cultivo en el campo majorero, reavivando la economía agrícola productiva y recuperando las gavias y las semillas de variedades adaptadas al entorno. Las fincas cedidas hasta la fecha se encuentran en las localidades de Tetir, Villaverde y Tarajalejo.

Supportive FARMS More than 500.000 m2 (including a 10.000 m2 greenhouse) make up the supportive ditches ploughed by the project « Fuerteventura Solidaria», helping those who need it most. This project was promoted by «Fundación de Alumnos Solidarios» since last September, with the support from the Inter Islands Council, Town halls, NGOs and lots of particulars and institutions that aim to distribute the crops among those who need it most in our island. Thanks to this project, the students can also learn the characteristics of these crops in majorero lands, bringing back farming and recovering the ditches and the seeds or those crops suitable to our environment. The lands that have been given up so far are located in Tetir, Villaverde and Tarajalejo.

From the 5th to the 30th April you’ll be able to enjoy, in the exhibition hall in Corralejo’s Auditorium, the photography, painting and engraving by Carlos Fierro. The author shows his work in the last years. You’ll be able to witness his artistic development along this time, starting with his different engraving techniques (etchings, collagraphs...) which he combines with his acrylics as he gets more and more into digital photography, always treating the image as a picture. He tackles different topics, from the relationship with the island landscape and the sea; the man, his land and legacy, to works that show an inner world of fantasy.

TabaibArt, en colaboración con el Cabildo de Fuerteventura, nos presenta el sábado 13 de abril, a las 21h, en el Auditorio Insular de Puerto del Rosario, un espectáculo innovador de circo, danza y música... ¡DÉJAME FLUIR! ¡DÉJAME FLUIR! da vida a la fantasía de un niño que escucha un cuento sobre el océano... El trabajo de 7 artistas de diferente formación ha permitido la realización de un espectáculo contemporáneo, que une diferentes disciplinas del circo —acrobacias aéreas, rueda alemana y malabares— con la danza y la música, con la intención de llevarse al espectador al mundo mágico de la naturaleza, de la armonía del agua limpia y viva del océano. Durante el desarrollo del espectáculo habrá una continua interacción entre los elementos naturales y los seres humanos. Los humanos representan un punto de unión entre el mundo visible y el mundo invisible y tendrán tiempo de descubrir, para después olvidar, sus antiguas conexiones con la madre naturaleza, transformando así el mágico escenario marino en desolación y contaminación, para aprender una gran experiencia de vida: la suerte del hombre es la misma de la naturaleza, un espíritu en los dos. «Entres varios golpes de escenas queremos hacerte reír, llorar y ¿por qué no...?, pensar. LET ME FLOW! LET ME FLOW! gives life to a child’s fantasy while he listens to a fairy tale about the ocean... The work by seven artists with a different education has allowed the carrying out of a contemporary show intermingling different circus disciplines —acrobatics, German wheel and juggling— with dance and music so as to take the audience to the magic world of nature, the harmony of the clean and alive water from the ocean. All throughout the show there will be a continuous interaction between natural elements and human beings.

Human beings symbolize the meeting point between the visible and invisible worlds, and they will have time to find out and then forget about their old connections with their mother nature, thus turning the magic ocean scenery into desolation and pollution to learn a great life experience: «man’s fate is the same as that of nature, they share the same spirit». Es una práctica muy común en la actualidad el aumento del volumen labial, tanto en hombres como en mujeres, a base de ácido hialurónico. Los resultados, siempre y cuando se realice dentro de unos parámetros de simetría y armonía, son muy buenos y aceptados por el entorno social del individuo que se lo realiza. La típica imagen de la desarmonía labial ha quedado atrás, buscando ahora la belleza dentro de una naturalidad. Una regla muy importante: el labio superior debe predominar sobre el inferior, sin ser muy evidente. La armonía en los extremos labiales también ha de ser tomada en cuenta. En conjunto, unos labios con una mejor proyección espacial, muchas veces sólo aplicando ácido hialurónico en el labio superior, es posible gracias a una técnica mínimamente invasiva.

Juan Diego: «La Lengua Madre»

El próximo 26 de abril, contaremos en nuestra isla —Auditorio Insular de Puerto del Rosario—, con la presencia del gran actor sevillano Juan Diego, representando «La Lengua Madre», una obra de Juan José Millás, dirigida por Emilio Hernández, en una producción de P.A. Triana. Este curioso monólogo surge de la conflictiva e intensa relación de Juan José Millás con la lengua madre desde su infancia: «… ciertas dificultades de pronunciación que todavía arrastro hacían que las palabras, dentro de mi boca, parecieran objetos, más que sonidos. Las masticaba o las ensalivaba como si fueran un dulce, y lo cierto es que para mí tenían sabor, olor, color, textura. Algunas palabras eran duras como piedras y otras se deshacían como la espuma al contacto con la lengua. De otro lado, enseguida advertí también que una palabra podía arreglarte el día o estropeártelo, porque había palabras que curaban y palabras que mataban, palabras que te hacían reír o que te hacían llorar, palabras que te adormecían o que te provocaban insomnio. Descubrí con asombro que las palabras dirigían la vida de los hombres, ya que, lejos de conquistarlas, según creíamos, eran ellas las que nos colonizaban. En gran medida, estamos hechos, o deshechos, de palabras. De esa extrañeza frente a la lengua nacería, muchos años después, este monólogo que trata de eso, de lo raro que es hablar o ser hablado». Una crítica sagaz al lenguaje inventado por los que dominan el mundo, que con sus test de estrés, hipotecas subprime, cashflow o primas de riesgo, pretenden acomplejarnos y dejarnos huérfanos de nuestra rica lengua madre, que tanta seguridad nos aporta. Según Emilio Hernández: «Juan Diego crea un personaje entrañable, tierno, que nos hace sonreír y llorar, y que nos gustaría llevar a casa para que, como ángel de la guarda, nos prevenga, desde su humildad y su verdad, de los peligros que nos acechan desde que sacamos el primer pie de las sábanas cada mañana». Joel Angelino: «Fresa y Chocolate» Next April 26th, we’ll count on the presence of the great Sevillian actor Juan Diego in our island —Auditorio Insular de Puerto del Rosario—, performing «La Lengua Madre», a play by Juan José Millás, directed by Emilio Hernández, and produced by P.A. Triana. This curious monologue arises from the troublesome and intense relationship between José Millás and his mother tongue from a very early age: «Certain pronunciation difficulties which I still carry around made words, within my mouth, look like objects instead of sounds. I used to chew them, or lick them as if they were candy, and the truth is that they seemed to have some flavour, smell, colour and texture. Some words were hard like stones, and some others dissolved like the foam when they touched my tongue. On the other hand I also realised that one word could either fix your day or spoil it, because there were words which healed and some other which killed; some which made you laugh and some others which made you cry; some which made you sleepy and some which caused insomnia. I found out, to my amazement, that words ruled men’s lives, since far from us conquering them it was them that conquered us. To a great extent, we are made, or unmade, of words. Out of this peculiarity of the language, many years later, this monologue would arise, dealing with how weird it is to speak or be spoken». It’s a sharp criticism to the language invented by those who rule the world, who with their stress test, sub-prime mortgages, cash-flow or risk premium try to get us worked up and leave us without our rich mother tongue which makes us feel so confident. According to Emilio Hernández: «Juan Diego creates a lovable character that makes us smile and cry and that we would like to take home with us so that, like a guardian-angel, warns us, from his humility and truth, about the dangers that threaten us from the moment we get up every morning». It’s a performance that invites, for a while, to get wrapped up in words, which are, according to Juan José Millás: «the only treasure that is everyone’s heritage because we all have built it». El joven actor y director cubano Joel Angelino viene a Fuerteventura —5 de abril, Auditorio de Corralejo, 21h. y 6 de abril, Auditorio Insular de Puerto del Rosario, 21h.—, para presentarnos esta teatralización, en forma de monólogo, del cuento de Senel Paz titulado El lobo, el bosque y el hombre nuevo, que sirvió de guión para la premiada película Fresa y Chocolate (1993), coproducción cubano-española-mexicana, dirigida por Tomás Gutiérrez Alea y Juan Carlos Tabío. Joel Angelino no podía imaginar la gran repercusión y el clamoroso éxito que la puesta en escena de su obra iba a despertar dentro y fuera de su país natal, y explica que sintió mucho miedo a la hora del estreno de la obra en Cuba, porque no es fácil hablar de homosexualidad y política en su país. Sin embargo, la positiva reacción del pueblo cubano y sus gobernantes ante la polémica historia ha demostrado que, aunque lentamente, las cosas están cambiando en esta isla del Caribe. Pero Fresa y Chocolate va mucho más allá de los conflictos sociales y políticos de la Habana postrevolucionaria. En realidad la homosexualidad es el envoltorio que sirve de enganche para plantear algo más profundo: la convivencia cotidiana del ser humano consigo mismo, la búsqueda de la propia identidad, y el conflicto que genera el «querer ser» frente a lo que la sociedad demanda que seamos. Angelino narra, con la energía de su cuerpo y su vinculación al espacio, la magia que imprime cada personaje; se crece y colma la escena, seguro de que, de alguna manera, está contribuyendo a contar una parte de la historia cubana. The young Cuban actor and director Joel Angelino is coming to Fuerteventura —next April 5th,Auditorio de Corralejo, 21h and April 6th, Auditorio Insular de Puerto del Rosario, 21h.—, to present this performance in the shape of monologue from the fairy tale by Senel Paz titled El lobo, el bosque y el hombre nuevo, used as the script for the awarded film Fresa y Chocolate (1993), Spanish-Cuban-Mexican co-production directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío. Joel Angelino couldn’t imagine the impact and enormous success that the staging of his work would have inside and outside his home country, and he says he felt really afraid at the première in Cuba, as it’s not easy to talk about homosexuality and policy in his country. However, the positive reaction of the Cuban people and their rulers towards this controversial story has proved that, although little by little, things are changing in this Caribean island. But Fresa y Chocolate, goes beyond the social and political conflicts in post-revolutionary La Habana. Actually, homosexuality is the lid which hooks the audience to deal with a deeper topic: the daily coexistence of human beings with themselves, the search of our own identity, and the controversy that generates this «want to be» against that which society requires from us. Angelino narrates, with the energy of his body and his link to the space, the magic that every character stamps; he feels happy and plunges the stage confident that, in a way, he is helping to tell a part of the Cuban history.
