Miguel Sobral 'Drawing Resizes Time' 'O Desenho redimensiona o tempo'
Biography | Biografia Miguel Sobral was born in Setúbal and lives in Madeira. He attended the Fine Arts Course at Universidade da Madeira in 2001. He holds the degree in Visual and Technological Education from Escola Superior de Educação Jean Piaget. He teaches visual arts in school and is an educational curator at Associação CRIAMAR, wich fosters social solidarity by promoting the development of children and young people. He has exhibited individually and collectively since 1996, in Portugal and abroad. He is a scenographer at Porventura Teatro and an actor at Teatro Experimental do Funchal (TEF) and Teatro do Avesso. Miguel is also an illustrator, of which we highlight the work done for the poetry collection (De)Corrente, Editorial Minerva, for the Direction of Artistically Educational Eervices of Madeira, and the illustration for the children poetry book entitled "The Blue World of Apple Mary", from Rosário Antunes, Chiado Editora.
Miguel Sobral é natural de Setúbal, vive e trabalha na Madeira. Frequentou o curso de Artes Plásticas da Universidade da Madeira em 2001. É licenciado em Ensino da Educação Visual e Tecnológica pela Escola Superior de Educação Jean Piaget em 1998. É professor de Educação Visual e Tecnológica do 2º Ciclo. Encontra-se em mobilidade, exercendo funções técnicopedagógicas na Associação CRIAMAR - Associação de Solidariedade Social para o Desenvolvimento e Apoio a Crianças e Jovens. No campo das Artes Plásticas tem exposto de forma individual e coletiva desde 1996, no espaço nacional e internacional. No âmbito do teatro tem desenvolvido funções de cenógrafo Porventura Teatro - e ator no Teatro Experimental do Funchal (TEF) e no Teatro do Avesso da Associação Avesso. Desenvolve trabalhos de ilustração, dos quais se destacam os realizados para a coletânea de poesia (De)Corrente, Editorial Minerva, para a Direção dos Serviços de Educação Artística e Multimédia e a obra infantil 'O Mundo Azul da menina Maçã', de Rosário Antunes, Chiado Editora.
'Human', an exhibition by the artist Miguel Sobral, in the WELL.COM coffee bar, gathers drawing works created by observing the gestures, the postures and the character that some bodies are to emanate when observed at a distance, captied in their tasks more Everyday and idle. Miguel Sobral presents in this exhibition about 200 quick drawings of human figure movements executed to graphite, pen and charcoal. Most of the immediate and fragmented captures of a few seconds only, but we can also observe 5 more lengthy records, performed in the presence of the model, which the artist tries to capture the essential of his movement, composing and (un) balancing the Set of forces between the lines and the stain, space and shape. Drawing imposes itself for Miguel Sobral as something transversal to his day-to-day, a process of continuous coexistence with his particular state of feeling and seeing others. Most of these works were carried out in a discreet way, at a distance, without the model realizing that their simplest actions were being recorded. An act of drawing "camoufled" and fast, which seeks in the movement in the essence of the fleeting presence of those who pass without making pose, gestures and habits of anonymous and real people.
Humano, uma exposição do artista Miguel Sobral no espaço WELL.COM, reúne trabalhos de desenho criados através da observação dos gestos, das posturas e do carácter que alguns corpos paraecem emanar quando observados à distância, capatados nas suas tarefas mais quotidianas e ociosas. Expostos estão cerca de 200 desenhos rápidos de movimentos de figura humana executados a grafite, caneta e carvão. Na sua maioria captações imediatas e fragmentadas, de alguns segundos apenas, mas também se podem observar 5 registos mais demorados, realizados na presença do modelo, doas quais o artista tenta captar o essencial do seu movimento, compondo e (des)equilibrando o jogo de forças entre as linhas e a mancha, espaço e forma. Desenhar impõe-se para Miguel Sobral como algo transversal ao seu dia-a-dia, um processo de coexistência contínua com o seu estado particular de sentir e ver os outros. Grande parte destas obras forma realizadas de forma discreta, à distância, sem que o modelo se apercebesse que as suas ações mais simples estavam a ser registadas. Um ato de desenhar “camuflado” e rápido, que busca no movimento na essência da presença fugaz dos que passam sem fazer pose, gestos e hábitos de gente anónima e real.
