FITTER, HEALTHIER, STRONGER! improves muscle tone, increases bone density, and decreases the risk of injury when you are racing your children (or friends) across the park. Confidence! You will feel more confident in what your body can accomplish and less fixated on how you look. Maintaining a healthy diet is easier when you know it is supporting your training and keeping your body running efficiently. Discipline! There will be many times you want to skip a workout, using the excuse, I am too busy, stressed or I can’t be bothered. Never rely on motivation. Put it in the diary and stick to it. This will carry over into all aspects of work and life and gives you the accountability you need to succeed.
I became a personal trainer after realising the huge benefits health and fitness contributed to positive mental and physical health. I could educate others to show them the benefits too. Here are some “non-weight-loss” reasons and benefits to get you off your sofa, put your trainers on and get moving. And I promise not to mention the word “endorphins”. Being strong! Socialising! Time out exercising could mean you are around people instead of hibernating at home. Beat that feeling of loneliness and boost your mood by walking with a friend, joining a class or saying hi to someone at the gym. Fresh Air! Tell me you don’t feel instantly better after a walk, jog, run or cycle in the fresh air. More than ever, we need to exercise. Lockdowns have meant an increase of working from home and more sitting on our butts. Let this article give you the reason you need to get up and get moving. Susi Jackson
