The 2024 Rotary Calendar has arrived
All proceeds from the sale of this calendar will be donated to local projects within the greater Maleny district. This is the 16th annual publication of the Maleny Rotary Calendar and the interest continues to grow.
The 2024 Rotary Calendar has arrived. The stunning photos made possible by you, your friends, and neighbours, truly reflect the typical hinterland landscapes and lifestyles that we have come to accept as our own. By purchasing the calendars, you can share these images with your friends and families across the globe.
Last year your purchases raised $9000, and ALL the profits went towards local and regional projects that give practical help to those in need in this community, in remote areas, and in regional communities as close as the Solomon Islands and as far as the Ukraine.

Maleny Charity Golf Day!
The Rotary Club of Maleny along with Maleny Golf Club have plans well underway for the Rotary Club of Maleny Golf Day Friday September 8th 2023. All welcome.
All proceeds will be donated to Orange Sky which assists and gives dignity to the homeless and disadvantaged of Maleny, with free laundry services along with Shelterbox International which provides emergency shelter globally in times of disasters.
Maleny Senior Citizens
Maleny Senior Citizens meet every Friday morning from about 8.45 until 11am for a Cuppa, Chat, and some board games and a laugh or two. They meet in the Verandah Room under the Maleny Community Centre. Every Friday morning is ‘drop in’ where games, laughter and morning tea is enjoyed by all. Occasionally the group join together to go on bus or train trips to varying local areas. Everything the club does is based on social activities that are fun.
This is one of the most social activities that we believe is held on a regular basis and is open to anyone over the age of 50. Those social activities include some bus trips and the regular Friday night meal with friends at various Maleny eateries.
The Friday night “get togethers” are very popular..
So if you would like to have a Cuppa, a Chat, a Laugh or just sit and listen to the chatter this is the place to come. New members are always welcome.
Call Margaret on 0419 179516 or 54942621. We look forward to seeing you soon. You are sure to meet “new friends” and great fun times.

Lift the lid on Mental Health walk.
Do you have a dog that loves to dress up and or do you have a crazy hat and or costume?
The Rotary Club of Maleny are delighted to announce the 2023 Maleny Lift the Lid Walk for Mental Health and invite all local residents, visitors and their dogs to join us on the morning of Sunday 10th September 2023.
The walk and talk format is deliberately not a race, but an opportunity to get locals together in a fun way to raise awareness of the serious mental health issues we face in all areas of our communities, schools, homes and workplaces. Now more than ever, we need to break down the stigma that continues to plague our society so that people are more comfortable to discuss and seek help for their mental health issues.
As the sole benefactor, 100% of funds raised from the Lift the Lid Walk will go to supporting vital Australian Rotary Health research into Mental Health.

Living Waters Short Film Event
Living Waters is a Short Film Event exploring interconnectedness and our belonging to the earth and each other being held on September 1st, 6.30pm at Maleny Community Centre.
Along with films from across the world, we are especially pleased to be able to screen the award winning Katale (Mudskipper), by Sunshine Coast filmmaker John Harvey. This film features Bangarra Dance Theatre performers Elma Kris and Waangenga Blanco Katale. Mudskipper is a joyous slice of magic realism that bursts from the screen with vivid cinematography, enchanting dance sequences and an uplifting connection to Country. In it, a Torres Strait Islander woman is toiling away at a Brisbane laundromat when she’s visited by a man embodying the spirit of the mudskipper. Co-written by respected Torres Strait Islander leader Walter Waia and winner of Best Australian Short Film at Flickerfest, Katele. Mudskipper allows the spirit of culture to shine through in a truly celebratory way.
The films are followed by a short panel discussion featuring Katale Film-maker John Harvey, renowned permaculture expert Robyn Clayfield, and Anglican priest, Rev'd Deb Bird. Tickets cost $10 through the Horizon Festival website: www.horizonfestival.com.au

Witta Tennis News
Tennis News
Whistlers enjoyed perfect winter tennis weather at Caloundra on Friday. The team of Paula, Cindy, Donna and Maree had a good win against the Hot Chillies. Lots of fun and laughs along with great rallies. Score was Witta, 6 sets 44 games to Caloundra, 2 sets 22 games.
The Witta Tournament was hotly contested with 12 combatants competing for the trophy. It all came down to the last set of matches with 4 players extremely close on points.
At the end of regular play, we had a winner, but not a runner-up with 3 players on equal points. So, it was back to courts for a playoff to decide the runner-up.
In the end the winner was John Bradshaw with Haydyn Craven as runner-up followed by Paula Cudmore and Glenn Smith.

Kath Smith and Helen Andrews teamed up on Thursday to play Vince Carbery in good form who won the game 12 – 9. Donna Manning, practising for the Gibson Medal on the weekend lost to Lynette Evans 10 – 20.
Our “come and try” day was a hoot. It followed the regular practice on Saturday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. and a motley crew of aspirants arrived to try their hand at the perfect game. They were well coached by a number of willing club members happy to pass on their expertise. They played Aussie Croquet, a variation of croquet used for training newcomers. Several promising players emerged as a result of this exercise.
In the attached photo Richard Bond is shown appraising the attempt on hoop 2. Lynette is advising on the line that he should take and he, who obviously does not know Lynette very well, is arguing with her, a foolhardy exercise.
