Plans approved for proposed Maleny Football Clubhouse
he Maleny Rangers Football Club is just one of a number of Maleny community organisation attempting to raise funding to the tune of about $2million for a new clubhouse and change facilities.
The new clubhouse’s design, designed by club president, Richard Jones will include separate change rooms for men and women and the home and away teams. There will be a proper commercial kitchen, and a first aid room, neither of which the

The current building was built in the 1970s and the included facilities are well past their reasonable use by date. The Maleny Rangers committee is now looking to generate more funding for the project through receiving grants.
Maleny Aquatic Centre plans revealed (Continued from Page 1)
THE establishment will include a multipurpose space for functions or other training. Included would be an outdoor BBQ area.
MIACSG President Peter Griffey said that the current pool facilities at the Maleny State School were no longer fit for purpose and required an expensive re-fit to be brought back into use. The indoor facility would also allow all year round use.
The Sunshine Coast Council Aquatic Plan is due for review by the Sunshine Coast Council in 2026. This review considers the planning and management of Councils aquatic centres over a coming 10 year period and it is hoped that this facility is included in those plans.

Maleny Lions Club names Award winners!
The Maleny Lions Club “Children of Courage Award” ceremony was held at the Maleny State School on October 15th. Lions Q3 District Governor Richard Williams and local state MP, Mr. Andrew Powell officiated at the ceremony.
Congratulations to the wonderful Maleny State School children who are recipients of this years Lions Children of Courage Awards - Daniel Boughen, Seline Billett and Ewan McCallum.
The Lions Children of Courage Awards provide recognition to the many young people severely disadvantaged by a variety of life-threatening and/or life-altering disabilities.
The Children of Courage Awards originated in 1983 and were created to recognise and celebrate the everyday bravery and courage of children between the ages of 5 and 15, with a focus on building self esteem in children.
Maleny is the last area of coastal southeast Queensland that is still classified as a genuine dark sky region. This project aims to recognise, protect and celebrate our dark skies as a natural asset contributing to the liveability of our region.
I will continue work to protect and expand upon that recognition for the betterment of flora and fauna in the area.
Don’t forget that day for the 2024 Queensland State Election is on Saturday October 26th between 8a.m. and 6p.m. at the Maleny High School.

New Nesting Boxes installed to offset clearing for water pipelines at Landsborough
After six months in the bush, 25 nestboxes installed in a Landsborough environment reserve are now a home for sugar gliders, brushtail and short eared possum, a peron’s tree frog and plenty more tree-loving wildlife.
Other nest boxes were unoccupied, but evidence of activity was found through chew marks and nesting materials.
Ten habitat stacks and more than 6900 trees were also planted across 4.33 hectares within the Mellum Creek Environment Reserve to offset the removal of trees and vegetation required for Unitywater to deliver new water network connections to the growing Aura community.
In late 2023, Sunshine Coast Council fulfilled the offset in the Mellum Creek Environment Reserve in Landsborough.
Dog and Cat registrations now due
Did you know Border Collies, Labradors and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are the Sunshine Coast’s most popular registered dog breeds for 2024?
Registering your dog or cat helps us reunite them with you if they get lost and helps us provide pet-related services, such as dog off-leash parks, where they are needed most.
Council requires all dogs and cats to be registered. Registration renewals have been sent out so please check your mailbox or email inbox. Renewal of pet registration was due by the 30th September.
These new nestboxes are expected to last for a minimum of 40 years. Council used native hardwood timber salvaged from other road development projects and milled it into 40mm rough sawn timber boards to construct the nest boxes.
The nest boxes were installed in the tree canopy in the Mellum Creek Environment Reserve to mimic hollows that would otherwise take hundreds of years to develop naturally.
Nest boxes are helping to bridge the gap, fast forwarding the process to create instant breeding habitat for our precious wildlife including the powerful owl, cockatoos, squirrel glider, greater glider, possum, micro bats and antechinus – a small mouse-like native marsupial. This greatly benefits our region’s biodiversity and supports the survival of these species for generations to come.
Don’t
Forget Minor Grant Funding
The Sunshine Coast Council community grant program focuses on supporting projects that respond to community need and deliver on Council’s priorities, strengthen connections between people and their community, and deliver maximum community benefit.
The present round is open and closes on October 28, 2028. Get in quick to make your application.
You can tune into the meeting live by visiting Council’s website at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrAop7lu5Q4

“Refurbishing Fibreglass Shower Floors”
https://www.norglass.com.au
It is possible to give your tired looking fibreglass shower floor a new fresh look much cheaper than replacing it!
This area contains the same problems as repainting a bath. After years of continuous use, body fats, oils and soaps become embedded into the surface which is now quite porous due to aging of the fibreglass matrix.
Removal of these contaminates can cause a problem with adhesion unless the preparation is done with diligence. Secondly, the selection of paint is also important. All single pack paints (or clears) are air dried and are only water resistant, not waterproof. If they are used, the continuous wetting, lack of ventilation, steam etc. will cause the paints to soften and breakdown. Also they will allow mould to develop and adhere with comparative ease. Using aggressive cleaning agents will only exacerbate the problem.
Therefore, our recommendation is to use NORTHANE, which is one of the few on the market that is totally waterproof in the cured film. NORTHANE will not allow bacterial matter into the cured paint, making it perfectly safe for eating surfaces, laboratory bench tops, fish ponds and so on.
Now to the preparation.
Apply a good domestic cleaning agent, like JIF. Wet the surface and squirt it on, and scrub vigorously with a stiff nylon brush. Rinse off and repeat this process at least 2 more times.
Allow to dry, and lightly sand with a medium grit sandpaper around a cork block. If the whole shower area is to be done follow the same preparation all over.
Next, vacuum up the sanded dust, so that the loose particles are not clogging up the porous pores, and mask up all fittings and edges. If only the base is to be done, mask up an area about 150mm (6 inches) up from the floor.
Clean with Norclean-Plus on a paper towel just prior to painting to remove and remaining contaminants.
Prime using SHIPSHAPE PRIMER UNDERCOAT, let it cure for 24 hours, lightly sand, clean with NORCLEAN PLUS and then you can apply the NORTHANE.
Colour Selection
NORTHANE coverage is approximately 5 sq. metrs per mixed 500 ml pack, and if putting white over a white (or off-white background) then one coat will be sufficient.
However if a contrasting colour is chosen, 2 coats may be required. NORTHANE comes in 16 standard colours plus black and white. Application
If doing the walls as well, use a good quality mohair paint roller (4mm nap), and wear socks (not bare feet) because the body oils from the soles will reduce the adhesion.
Where only the base is to be coated, use a 75mm (3 inch) brush. Prior to mixing the paint, have on hand, a flat piece of wood or steel trowel and cotton gloves.
If a non slip area is required: Tape up the desired area with a masking tape. Clean with NORCLEANPLUS. Open the NORTHANE base only and add NORGLASS FLATTENING AGENT, 25g per litre, then add NORGLASS ANTI-SLIP AGENT at 50g per litre. Once they have been thoroughly integrated together add the Northane Hardener and stir. Wait 10 minutes then apply.
The finished result will be a textured uniform nonslip surface. The reason for this may not seem obvious, but if just left as a smooth finish the surface will be as slippery as a skating rink, when wet.

What do we really mean when we say our toilet paper helps build toilets?
We trust that our partner organisations know how to best improve global access to proper sanitation – that means our donation could go to building toilets. To put it into perspective, a child under five dies every two minutes from diarrhoea diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.
Profits from the sale of this toilet paper is used our donation could go to building toilets, but could also mean it supports larger clean water projects.
Is a hybrid better than an electric car?
No; the push for electric vehicles is not new.
One of the world's most adorable electric vehicles was created amid an energy crisis. The Light City Vehicle (LCV) was produced by Peugeot between 1941 and 1943 as a response to France’s fuel shortages during the German occupation. The two-seater convertible, used mostly by postal workers and doctors during WWII, was powered by four 12V batteries that were stored at the front of the vehicle. This allowed it to travel with a top speed of 21 miles per hour, and go as far as 50 miles with each charge. Peugeot produced a total of 377 LCVs before the German authorities banned it.
Need a Roadworthy Certificate?
Maleny Service Centre have a Licenced Roadworthy Inspector on the premises and we know only too well what it takes to make your vehicle safe and roadworthy.
All vehicles (including trucks, motorbikes and trailers) must have a Safety or Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) if being sold, registered for the first time or being re-registered in Queensland. Registered Vehicles cannot be solid without a RWC.
An Old Codger’s Thoughts & Opinions
Juvenile Crime
“There is now no one easy fix”
Now that the Queensland State Election has been set and the parliament dissolved you can guarantee that one of the main issues that will be contested is juvenile crime.
Irrespective of what any of the political parties say this is a complex matter that has been allowed to get out of hand over the past few years with many politicians coming out with impassioned political rhetoric imbued with simplistic slogans and softening attitudes towards solutions.
And NO, locking youth up and throwing away the key is not the answer, but neither is a softening up of solutions.
Truthful Jones says And he swears that it 100% trueNo Bulls##t”
The old lady handed her bank card to a bank teller and said, “I would like to withdraw $500” . It couldn’t have happened in Maleny as most banks have now closed here.
The teller told her, “For withdrawals less than $2,000, please use the ATM.”
The old lady wanted to know why.
The teller returned her bank card and irritably told her, “These are the rules. Please leave if there is no other matter. There is a line behind you.”
The old lady remained silent for a few seconds, then handed the card back to the teller and said, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.”
The teller was astonished when she checked the account balance. She nodded her head, leaned down and respectfully told her, “My apologies Ma'am, you have $35 million in your account and our bank doesn't have so much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come again tomorrow?
The old lady then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The teller told her any amount up to $250,000.
"Well, please let me have $250,000 now", she requested. The teller did so quickly, then handed it very friendly and respectfully to her elderly client.
The old lady put $500 in her bag and asked the teller to deposit the balance of $249,500 back into her account.
Moral of the story is “Don't be difficult with old people, they spent a lifetime learning the skills.”

Directors you need ID!
With Tove Easton of Easton Lawyers, Maleny
What is a director ID?
A director identification number (director ID) is a unique 15-digit number given to a director (or someone who will become a director), who has verified their identity with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). It’s free to apply and while directors need to apply for their own director ID, they'll keep it forever even if they: change companies; or stop being a director; or change their name; or move interstate or overseas.
Timing
The Corporations Law requires if you were appointed as a director on or before 31 October 2021 you must have a director ID
After the 5th April 2022 you MUST have a director ID before you are appointed. Timing under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) is different.
If you were appointed as a director under the CATSI you must apply for a director ID by 30 November 2023.
From 1 November 2022 you MUST have applied for a
director ID before you are appointed.
Who needs a director ID?
You need a director ID if you're a director of a:
company
aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation
registered Australian body, for example, an incorporated association that is registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and trades outside the state or territory in which it is incorporated foreign company registered with ASIC and carrying on business in Australia (regardless of where you live).
If your organisation has an Australian business number (ABN) find out if it is registered with ASIC. company, which will have an Australian company number (ACN)
registered Australian body, which will have an Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN)
registered foreign company, which will have an ARBN
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations have
an Indigenous Corporation Number (ICN) and may also have an ABN.
Conclusion
ASIC is responsible for administration of the director ID, under the Corporations Act and it is a criminal offence not to apply on time.
If you need help and support, you can contact your solicitor, or tax agent, to help decide if you need to apply for the director ID.
At Easton Lawyers our Senior Associate, Michelle Kleinig would be happy to assist you, understand your obligations under the Corporations Act, please don’t hesitate to contact us on (07)5494 3511

Maleny Church of England was dedicated on September 8th, 1931
Dr. Sharp (Archbishop of Brisbane) dedicated the Maleny Church of England on Sunday September 8th, 193, under the name of St. George, the Maleny Church of England.
The building, originally from the Enoggera Army Camp was first shifted to Beerweah when the Beerwah Soldiers Settlement scheme was commenced.
When that scheme failed the building sat unused and was subsequently shifted to Bunya Street, Maleny and became the Maleny Parish Church.

Maleny State Emergency Service Group is looking for some volunteers to help get our community through the next disaster season.
You can put your desire to get involved to good use and serve our community. An easy way to do that by becoming a State Emergency Service (SES) volunteer.
Active SES members perform a diverse range of functions to respond to local, state and national disasters and emergencies. By joining the SES you may respond to many different types of activations as a result of disasters and emergencies.
An SES volunteer has an opportunity to participate in and develop a variety of emergency and rescue skills, including chainsaw operations, flood boat operations, road crash rescue and land search.
Not only will you be helping your community, you will make some great mates along the way.
Volunteers are given training to ensure that they have enough skills to be able to handle whatever task you need to do..

Maleny Rotary Club advocates that businesses wear purple on Fridays to support Domestic Violence Awareness
Have you joined with the Maleny Rotary Club and other Rotary clubs on the Sunshine Coast in being highly visible and active in the promotion of Respectful Relationships and Domestic Violence Awareness.
This campaign supports not only business staff, but all individuals in wearing a Rotary purple Anti DV shirt each Friday to draw attention to the prevalence of domestic violence committed within our communities. The front of the purple T-shirts says, “Together we say NO to Domestic
and Family Violence”, while on the back is printed “Yes to Respectful Relationships.” This project signifies how seriously Maleny Rotary views the devastating effects of domestic violence on communities..
If you want to purchase a polo shirt, t-shirt or cap supporting this Rotary cause for yourself or your business simply contact a Maleny Rotary Member or visit their Facebook Page at: https://www.facebook.com/rotaryclubofmaleny
The new Maleny Community hall replaced the previous School of Arts building which was originally built in 1908. The hall was completely destroyed by fire on the 25 May, 1951. The fire started in the neighbouring business, Freeleagus’ Café & Bakery (previously McLean's Café, est. 1915, then Shaw and Sons Cafe) and quickly spread to the community hall. At that time there was no fire brigade in Maleny, but the Maleny Fire Brigade was formed not long after this fire event. Most of the furniture from the hall was salvaged. The new hall (pictured) was built on the Maple Street site and opened in October, 1957.
