Fairview listed on the Qld State Heritage Register on the 4th September, 2003.

And of course what would such a trip be without taking in a delicious home-made morning or afternoon tea from its wide sunny verandas overlooking the beautiful restored heritage gardens?

Admission is free for this special event. Fairview is located at 15, Porters Lane, North Maleny.

Cooke Park

With thanks to MHM and Desley Malone.

The land where Cooke Park is was owned by Alfred Charles King Cooke, a dairy farmer and after his passing in 1945, the Cooke family donated a block of land to the community in honour of their parents. The CWA were to be the park’s trustees.

Prior to that, in 1909 Alfred Charles Cooke and his wife, Ada Margaret Cooke built a house in Maple Street, Maleny and from there the family played an important part in Maleny’s development.

In 1910 Alfred Cooke became licensee of the Maleny Hotel. The family owned the land nexct to their house and that is what subsequently became Cooke Park.

Glass House Volunteer Awards with Andrew Powell

I’m pleased to announce that nominations have opened for the annual Glass House Volunteer Awards! Our community is full of volunteers who give up their time to help individuals or community groups in need. It might be knitting clothes for sick kids, providing food deliveries for the elderly, cooking snags on the bbq for a local sporting group or even helping out in a school classroom with reading.

volunteers assisting in our community many Glass House organisations and sporting groups just wouldn’t exist, so the Volunteer Awards are my opportunity to show them how much we appreciate their help. Nominations are now open for the 2022 Glass House Volunteer Awards and the nomination process is as easy as ever –simply reply to this email and let me know who you’d like to nominate and what organisation they’re from.

We just ask that all nominations are for people that live within the Glass House electorate and that there is only one nomination per group.

All-weather Upgrades Secure Maleny Golf Club’s Future

Maleny Golf Club in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland has undertaken a series of major course upgrades this year, including fairway irrigation, allweather cart paths and on-course toilets using grant funds exceeding $275,000.

Plans are also afoot to restore and enhance the environmental value of a second wetland within the picturesque course precinct and secure more land from the Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) for cart storage, parking and the construction of a new clubhouse.

General Manager Mr Stephen Porter said turf damage caused by extreme wet weather in February had sharpened the club’s focus on the need to invest in more permanent and resilient infrastructure improvements.“

The committee recognised that contending with extreme wet or dry weather and providing on-course toilets were essential for the year-around presentation of a high quality, community-run 18hole golf course to serve members well and attract visitors,” he said. “The balance between members and visitors is consistent with the Council’s

expectations about capturing the full benefits of this community asset,” he said.

Early in 2022 the club secured six grants for remedial work and major projects, including $165,000 from the Queensland Government for fairway irrigation, $85,000 from the RACQ Foundation for all-weather cart-path construction and $9,000 from the SCC towards installation of on-course toilets.

“While improvements to the course will always be ongoing, the imminent completion of these three projects should greatly improve the golfing experience for both members and visitors,” Mr Porter said. “In the coming year, the club plans to work closely with the Council to upgrade the southern wetland on the course to enhance its ecological value and store rainwater and recycled water for irrigation.”

Mr Porter said discussions had also been initiated with Council to provide more land for cart storage, parking and to facilitate construction of the permanent clubhouse.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny

Lynette Evans and Sally Young came down to the lawn to play on Thursday. They fronted up against Wallace Roy and Kath Smith in a game of doubles. In what was a friendly game judging by the chatter heard through the camellias from their lawn, Wallace and Kath won 8 -3. Meanwhile on lawn 1 Nick Cram played Diane Horseman in a game of singles, winning, despite some good creative play by Diane, 12 - 3. Donna Manning played Ken Barker on the same lawn in a game of singles. She was just coming good when rain stopped play making the score of 16 – 8 to Ken irrelevant.

Donna played away over the weekend at Toombul. She partnered Lindsay David to come second in the Queensland mixed doubles at Toombul. They finished on 3 wins from 4 to be equal first with Tom and Heather Knight from Stephens club but were second on nett points. Well done, Donna. Sunday looked miserable, but we were lucky. There were no interruptions and play good. Stuart Craig and Lynette played Wallace and Kath winning a cliff-hanger 9 – 8. While attempting hoop 1 with Blue, Stuart “jammed”, leaving the position in the photograph, a conundrum for his opponent Wallace, the player of the yellow ball. Yellow must move. If left, Blue will make the hoop and leaving Yellow there to be used after that would be unwise.

had a lucky break towards the end of play with the result 14 to him, 8 to Nick and 6 to Diane.

Wallace takes the aggressive line, shooting at Blue, though his approach is a trifle unorthodox. Stuart is there to adjudge whether he makes the roquet. Lawn 2, on the other hand, was the stage for a three-player game in which Diane, Nick and Ken competed. Ken
