Beersheba Day Parade at Woombye

On Sunday, Maleny’s 5th Light Horse Regiment proudly joined troopers from Gympie and Woombye in Woombye to celebrate the 103rd Beersheba Memorial Day. The record number of horses on parade (20+) from the combined regiments, mounted troopers and on foot, Red Cross Nurses, Veterans and local store holder Adam Kither in his Blitz Wagon made for a great spectacle for the crowd. There were commemorative and moving speeches and singing of the anthems, and the 2nd Light Horse Regiment-Woombye Troop also opened their Beersheba Museum and the traditional tea, damper and ANZAC biscuits were served in the park after the service.

Thank You, Glass House! To the voters of Glass House – thank you. Thank you for placing your trust in me to continue representing you and our beautiful electorate for another four years. I am deeply humbled to remain in this role, doing what I love. I’d like to thank the other candidates who ran for Glass House. Putting your hand up to represent your community takes a lot of time, effort and sacrifice. I want to recognise the work they put in and to wish them all the best in whatever comes next for them. As for the LNP, unfortunately now was not our time, but I am proud of our party and the campaign we ran. I particularly acknowledge the leadership of Deb Frecklington, an extraordinary, passionate, personable leader. We offered a vision for what we believe Queensland can become. We will continue to fight hard each and every day for Queensland to see that vision still become a reality, by holding the Labor government to account. Being a member of Parliament is an extraordinary privilege. I have never forgotten that, I never take it for granted and will continue to serve you to the best of my ability. As always, I will make myself accessible to anyone who needs assistance. Whether it be via email, phone call, meeting or mobile office, I will be there to hear you and represent Glass House in Parliament. I will be a representative for all. It doesn’t matter whether you voted for me or not, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns or issues you might have which you feel I may be able to assist you with. Again, thank you Glass House. I cannot wait to get stuck into working for our communities once more. Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club Inc

School Presentation a Winner

Maleny State High School are proud locals supporting yet another community initiative that is designed to help local businesses. They decided to buy their end of year presentation prizes through the Maleny Commerce gift card scheme. Maleny High School Deputy Principal David O’Shea said that when the discussion came up with Principal Deborah Stewart about the school’s 2020 event, they saw it as a great way for the school to support local business and reward their students at the same time. “We loved the idea of of supporting local businesses by purchasing gift cards valued in total at $5,000 that can be spent by them in approximately 100 local shops and businesses” he said. "We believe this is a very positive initiative for the whole community”. There are going to be some very happy students on the night! Slip Reduction Measures Maple Street Have you noticed the recently completed slip reduction measures applied by Sunshine Coast Council to the footpath in front of “The Cubby House Coffee Shop”. These should ease some peoples concerns, especially in wet weather as this length of footpath can become slippery when wet.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny Thursday saw a number of social games where results were not recorded and where people just enjoyed the afternoon playing around. Well done. Lynette Evans, Helen Andrews, Janelle Wilson, Wallace

Roy, Bev Sockhill and Gillian Bradley all enjoyed the day while Nick Cram and Ken Barker had a hard fought draw on lawn 1, 9 all. Stuart Craig and Helen with 9 hoops under their belt lost to a rampagingPriscilla Vickers and Wallace Roy 9 -13on a storm-free but warm Sunday afternoon. Donna Manning and Val Carbery teamed up to beat Kath Smith and Vince Carbery 17 –10. Ken was soundly beaten by Sarah Widin 17 -13. Doubles games are a great opportunity to discuss tactics during a game. In the attached photograph Alice Spittle and Bev are contemplating yellow and red, their two balls, which they have tucked away in the far north section of the eastern boundary on lawn 2.

Our excellent lawns are situated 200 m in on the right side of the show-grounds. From the 1st October we will be meeting at 2pm for a 2.30 start for all social play games i.e. Thursdays and Sundays. Play days: Thursday and Sunday 2.00 pm for 2.30. Contact Sarah for other days. Please arrive at 2 pm for games to be arranged by 2.30. Coaching: is available on Saturday mornings at 8 am. Members pay no green fees and may practice or play on the courts at any time. Did you know that Croquet reached the South Pole in 2005 when American scientists became the first to play a game there, in the snow, outside the South Pole Observatory. A local croquet player told me that the game of croquet "It's called croquet. It's something like golf only it's fun." Our web address is: https:// rangecroquetatmaleny.org.au For details contact Sarah Widin 0417640704 (President), Vince Carbery 54942193 (Vicepresident), or Priscilla Vickers 54943555 (Secretary).
