Sunshine Coast Dog and Cat registration is almost due again

Registration provides peace of mind for pet owners. Cats and dogs must be registered every year and will be issued with a registration tag. This will help council to identify and reunite them with their owners if they get lost.

Registering your dog helps council provide services such as off-leash areas and litter bins where they are needed. The annual registration period is from the 1st October to the 30th September the following year. New registrations will be valid until 30 September regardless of when the cat or dog is registered.

Council recommends that all cats and dogs are microchipped and that your pet's microchip details are up-to-date with your microchip register. This will help council, the vet or lost animal shelter to reunite you quickly and easily.

New residents to the Sunshine Coast can transfer their cat or dog registration for free. Proof the cat or dog is registered with another council is required.

Assistance animals must be registered with Council. Assistance dogs include; guide, hearing, companion and seeing eye dogs.

A lifetime registration allows you to pay a one-off fee to register your cat, if it is desexed and microchipped. Throughout the Sunshine Coast Council area a maximum of two cats and two dogs are allowed on any one property.

Council issues a renewal notice in early September for each registered cat and dog requiring annual renewal. Payments are due by 30 September.

To find out more visit the council web site at: https://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/pay-andapply/cat-and-dog-registration/registration-renewals

The Bryce Sisters - a History

Maleny Historical Memories(Courtesy Desley Malone)

There were 3 Bryce sisters, Isabella (1914), Phyllis (1916) and Marjorie 1922. The 3 girls were involved with dairy farming when they were old enough as their father, Ben, suffered from blindness from the age of 21. Isabella used to steer the horse up front of the saddle of her Dad, taking the cream to the factory.

Old timers will remember seeing this. By means of hard work and frugal living, Isabella & Phyllis, with the help of Bob Pointing extended the family land holdings and owned properties at Mt Mellum, Baroon Pocket and on the eastern side of the range at Montville.

They held over 2,000 acres which they attended to regularly. They worked tirelessly for their community and were awarded many accolades.

They bequeathed part of their original farm to the Uniting Church and this is where Erowol stands today. Enjoy their history at this link: http://www.malenyhistoricalmemories.com/.../ben_bryce Photo of Marjorie, Isabella & Phyllis C1930. Walkers Hill is on the right of the photo.

Maleny Senior Citizens

Women Leaders in Sport

The Sunshine Coast Council has received information from the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport in relation to the ‘Women Leaders in Sport’ (WLIS) grant funding opportunities that are now available through the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).

The ASC established the WLIS program to:

• Provide leadership development opportunities for women on and off the field.

• Help sporting organisations create inclusive cultures and achieve gender equity.

• Drive a positive narrative around women leaders in sport.

To date, it has supported more than 26,000 women and more than 800 sporting organisations.

To view the potential funding opportunities on offer, please visit: Women Leaders in Sport Australian Sports Commission (sportaus.gov.au).

If you have any questions regarding the WLIS program, please contact the ASC directly on: (02) 6214 1463 or via email at: wlis@sportaus.gov.au.

Rotary Club of Maleny

Lift the lid on Mental Health walk. Do you have a dog that loves to dress up and or do you have a crazy hat and or costume?

The Rotary Club of Maleny are delighted to announce the 2023 Maleny Lift the Lid Walk for Mental Health and invite all local residents, visitors and their dogs to join us on the morning of Sunday 10th September 2023.

The walk and talk format is deliberately not a race, but an opportunity to get locals together in a fun way to raise awareness of the serious mental health issues we face in all areas of our communities, schools, homes and workplaces.

Now more than ever, we need to break down the stigma that continues to plague our society so that people are more comfortable to discuss and seek help for their mental health issues.

As the sole benefactor, 100% of funds raised from the Lift the Lid Walk will go to supporting vital Australian Rotary Health research into Mental Health.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny

Lynette Evans set the lawn on fire when she teamed up with Stuart Craig to play ricochet croquet against Sally Adams and Dianne Horsman on Tuesday. She blazed a trail to the peg with a three break (no easy task in ricochet) in their 18 – 8 victory.

The two teams playing in the alternate stroke doubles competition in Caloundra came down to practice on Thursday. With Ken Barker arriving late, Dianne, his partner, teamed up for a spell with Helen Andrews to play Donna Manning and Lynette in a 14-point game. Ken and Dianne, after Ken arrived, won a close encounter 14 – 13, which boasted many tactical and strategic nuances, including a two-ball game to end with. In Alternate stroke, unlike normal doubles, both players play through the turn, taking shots alternately. It’s great for the development of ideas about the game like what shots to play and what plans to make.

Nick Cram had a pretty good day on Sunday and after a slow start made good ground against Donna who is in sparkling form. Nick always plays better after the tea break and ended with a respectable 10 – 14 loss. The attached photo shows him developing a good position around hoop 4 with an easy roquet on Blue with Black to make hoop 4 off Blue. On the same lawn Helen, Stuart, and Dianne had an enjoyable afternoon with Dianne finishing ahead 15 – 7.
