Maleny Historical Memories with Desley Malone
The Maleny/Landsborough Rd was an important track in the early 1900’s. Before surfacing, it was a rough dirt track used to remove timber and butter from the Range. Construction started on a new road in 1926, when gravel was used to form the road. Work gangs were used during the Great Depression years and the Maleny/Landsborough Rd was funded under a Main Roads scheme to employ these unemployed men. As the roads improved, automobiles began to appear in the district – and tourists arrived. For more details on this story, you’ll enjoy the read at the “Backward Glance: History of a Road - Landsborough to Maleny” at https://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/Council/NewsCentre/Backward-Glance-history-of-a-road? fbclid=IwAR34jYcrCQI1n7BPAThw82wBRKfKm_xEsFx5JhEDb4I3Esn-5K_eH1dBCE

Maleny Players News
Our next Saturday evening Play reading will be on the 12th of November at the Playhouse @ 5pm – The House of Bernarda. Alba Garcia Lorca described the play in its subtitle as “a drama of women in the villages of Spain”.
Monday, 7 November 2022
Irish Joe Lynch Maleny Playhouse A very exciting performance is coming to the Playhouse on November 19th – an evening of poetry performed by Joe Lynch and Rosie Waters .
Irish Joe Lynch is multi-award winning storyteller and poet. Joe grew up in an area of the Cork and Kerry The House of Bernarda Alba was Garcia Lorca’s Mountains, which is steeped in the ancient art of last play, completed on 19 June 1936, two storytelling. months before Garcia Lorca’s death during the Spanish Civil War.
The play centres on the events of a house in Andalusia during a period of mourning. Upon her second husband’s death, domineering matriarch, Bernarda Alba, imposes an eightyear mourning period on her household in accordance with her family tradition. Bernarda forbids her daughters to cry.
He has performed at all major festivals around Australia and has conducted many performance poetry and storytelling workshops. Rosie Waters is a local storyteller, poet and singersongwriter who has become increasingly drawn to the spoken word. It promises to be an excellent performance. Come along an support our incredible local talent.
Bernarda has ve daughters, aged between 20 and 39, whom she has rigidly controlled and prohibited from any form of relationship. The mourning period further isolates them and tension mounts within the household. The deliberate exclusion of any male character from the action helps build up the high level of sexual tension that is present throughout the play. The play explores themes of repression, passion, and conformity, and inspects the effects of men upon women. At evening play readings, we pay $5 and enjoy nibbles, with drinks available. New readers are always welcome. RSVP Barbara on: 0428716015
