Scores

Wednesday 21 July: Witta Wagtails were victorious against the Maroochydore TT’s. Much laughter as the ball had a mind of its own on a very challenging windy day. Well done, Cheryl Cavanagh, Sonia Douglas, Cynthia Garvie, Jan Maguire.

If your club or organisation is an associate member of the Maleny District Sports and Recreation Club then you can publicise your club results and news in this, our “Community Billboard”.

Friday 23 July: The Whistlers had the bye. Sunday 25 July: Gympie travelled down to play the Wikings on a and windy afternoon. While it was a great day of tennis with lots of tie- breaks and close sets, Gympie got the win 10 sets to 2. Thanks to Yanni for standing in. Wikings team was, Glenno Smith, Yanni , Mal Wright, Andrew Moser, Stacey English and Pauline Fraley

Keep your events diary up to date on the MDSARC Inc Web site so that we all know about your communities important events.

Unfortunately, the windy conditions didn’t help The Wompoos cause this weekend. Thanks to the Nambour team who played exceptionally well and gave us some great tennis on the day. They were far too good winning 11 sets to 1, 77 games to 29. Haydyn Craven was called back to New Zealand, he wasn’t too keen to be caught this side of the ditch without the rest of the family, we wish he and his family well. Thanks to Craig Instone from Nambas club who stepped in admirably for him at the last minute. John Poole and Annie Quarmby played well to win a good mixed doubles match, however there were also a few tie break sets that could have gone either way. The Wompoos next vets match is against the Witta Wikings at Witta on August 15th, here’s hoping for less wind towards the end of August.

This is your newsletter - let all of Maleny know the latest info from your club every week! Wednesday 28 July: Maroochydore Missiles were ring on all cylinders leaving the Witta Wagtails in their wake. No signi cant scores to write home about, let’s just say we will recharge the batteries for next week. Thanks to Cheryl Cavanagh, Sonia Douglas, Cynthia Garvie and Jan Maguire for managing to take a few games from the Missiles.

Friday 30 July: Whistlers played at Maroochydore against Meteors. It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed playing in the sun and no wind. And tennis was very good also. Here is an opportunity for you, a positive amongst the dif culties you may be facing with your learning in this time of lockdown. If you live in the Glass House electorate, Andrew Powell would like to hear from you. Andrew said "To support students living in the Glass House electorate who wish to further their quali cations after completing Year 12 (either at university, in a trade or TAFE), I have developed a bursary for year 12 school leavers – the Joyce Newton OAM Memorial Bursary in honour of my good friend and community advocate Joyce Newton. Joyce sadly passed away in 2018 of Motor Neurones disease. This bursary is designed to provide nancial assistance to help school leavers with the costs associated with moving to their place of learning, and the purchase of books, IT, trade tools and/or other necessary requirements. The bursary is a $1,000 gift voucher to your choice of Concept IT or Mitre 10. The winning applicant and their immediate family will also be invited to dinner at Queensland Parliament with Mr. Andrew Powell and Joyce Newton OAM's daughter, Jennifer Tunley. I look forward to reading your applications!” You can reach Andrew at: Glass.House@parliament.qld.gov.au Applications close Friday 27 August, 2021

Census Time is Here! Australia’s national Census will be held on Tuesday 10 August 2021. The Census is a snapshot of who we are and tells the story of how we are changing. Census data is used to inform important decisions about transport, schools, health care, infrastructure and business. It also helps plan local services for individuals, families and communities. By now you should have your census papers and they need to be completed and returned in the pre addressed envelope that came with them. They can also be completed on line.

Please Take a Seat! Next time you are at the Maleny Community Precinct enjoying the views and scenery, you may notice that another timber bench seat has been installed at Maleny Selectors Green, the new park created on the MDSRC lease by a community project group. Those lovely blokes from Rotary put the new seat in recently - ready for walkers to take a load off and enjoy! Pictured are Maleny Rotarians Malcom Baker and Lionel Tilley following the installation of the eco timber bench seat, who assured us it is there to stay, after pouring the foundations of about 10 bags of premix concrete beneath the bench.

There was no law to state that the ball had to be struck by the face of the mallet, so an ingenious idea was developed of kneeling or lying down and using the top of the shaft like a billiard cue; shafts even had leather tips tted.” Pritchard goes on to describe the rise in popularity of, and, ultimately, the decision to legislate against the “stroke.” “Opinion turned against [its use] and the most telling nail in the cof n “‘Materfamilias’ wrote to The Field pointing out that if a gentleman knelt down in the presence of a lady, he was deemed to be proposing to her.
