Maleny Cricket Club News

Maleny Redbacks 3rd Division side played their rst game at home against Palmwoods on Saturday. Winning the toss, the Redbacks chose to bowl on an impressive Maleny deck. Openers Jonty Corkin and Ryan Harlow got the team off to a yer, being 0 for 37 off 7 overs. After Harlow departed for 14 runs, Corkin then combined with Kyle Jackson for a 54 run partnership. At 1 for 91 off 16 overs, the Redbacks were looking to dominate. However, with the loss of three quick wickets, including Corkin for a well-made 47 runs and Jackson for 12 runs, Maleny was reeling at 4 for 94 off 18 overs. Marc Senator (38 runs) and Cameron Kronk combined in a 70 run partnership to steady the innings. Kronk then upped the run rate, supported by Jack Williams (29 runs). With Kronk nally out for 46 runs and a late urry, the Redbacks amassed an impressive 9 for 236 runs off their 40 overs. A 'run a ball' run chase was always going to be tough for Palmwoods. Opening bowlers, Brock Barry (1 for 22 off 8 overs) and Jack Williams (1 for 24 off 6 overs) made the task even harder bowling tight lines. Maleny Captain Dan Hand continued to apply the pressure in the middle overs, claiming two wickets. A run out to Kyle Jackson, followed by Hamish White claiming 3 tail end wickets, Palmwoods were bowled out for 168 runs, handing Maleny a bonus point victory. Well done to all players. The Redbacks next take on Maroochydore at Maroochydore.

Maleny Emergency Personnel In the Medals

On 10th October, some very distinguished medals were presented to two members of Maleny's hardworking emergency services. Jared Ashcroft and Pamyla O’Connor were both presented with the National Emergency Medal for their service to others during a National Emergency, on this occasion, for their extraordinary service to the community during Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017. The National Emergency Medal is only awarded to persons who rendered sustained or signi cant service during nationally-signi cant emergencies in Australia.

The National Emergency Medal is administered by the Australian Honours and Awards Secretariat, Government House. It’s wonderful to see our town’s emergency volunteers so justly rewarded. "It’s was a great honour to be presented with this award, I’m proud to serve my community in times of need” said Jared at the ceremony, that saw the movers and shakers from the State’s Government and Emergency Services in attendance to make the presentations. The presentation was held at the Pavilion Conference Centre, Gympie.

Dog Etiquette on the Maleny Precinct It’s an unfortunate reality but it only takes a few to spoil if for everyone else who is doing the right thing.

offerings in bags hidden in their beautiful gardens - can you believe, ready for their gardeners to nd…..pretty gross, really.

Please remember that the whole of the Maleny Precinct is designated as dog on-leash at all times, for the comfort and safety of all in this beautiful mixed-use community treasure.

And we cannot repeat what the volunteers who mow the lovely Ziza Field, Selectors Green and other areas think every time they plough through such an abandoned package, it really is a nasty experience.

The Council Dog Inspectors have had to be called to do spot checks on the Precinct due to increasing incidents of dogs being off leash (did you know the ne for a dog-off-leash is now $275? - and to combat owners who are not picking up their pets' do-doo’s and placing in the bins provided, or taking them home.

We think this ditty at right , written by a local poet, it says it all...

Great news - the RSL’s famous "Digger's Dining" has now reopened. It is warm inside so don’t worry about being cold! The bar is open on Fridays from 4:30 pm and ours is a familyfriendly venue with great value family meals, we hope to see you!

Have Fun & RaiseFunds at the same time A Trail ride and come and try fund raising day has been planned for Saturday October 30th between 8a.m. and 5p.m. at 11 Bretons Road, Crohamhurst off Bald Knob Road. This Come and Try day and fundraiser day has been planned by the Maleny High School chaplaincy committee for the school chaplain. Funds raised go to support services and running programs for students by the Chaplain, Donna Turner. There will also be a mini clinic on horse handling and safety around your horse. For more information or to register contact Chris Bourne, Chaplaincy Committee secretary on genconnexq@gmail.com or by mobile phone 0428 176 557. https://malenysportandrec.org.au/

The squelching feeling that I get When I tread the boards Is one that I could do without On weekend morning walks

So, to all you woofer walkers No matter where you tread Please pick up your dogs’ turds And take them home instead. ©Neil Andison 2020

https://issuu.com/Maleny-Grapevine-Community-News

To all who walk their woofers As pleasant as it be Could you please take Your dogs’ turds home They are not pleasurable to me.

As plastic bags don’t cost a lot And sometimes they are free Please take your Dogs’ turds off the walks And take them home with thee.

The lovely volunteers at Pattemore House have been nding small packages of doggie

RSL Dining is Back!

Take Your Dog Turds Home With Thee

Consideration for others Just seems to disappear When striding out With mans’ best friend To toilet where they care

Please do not leave your doggie packages for others! This is of particular concern in Unity Water’s Wetland Trail, where animals off-leash are running through the various wetlan birds nests, destroying eggs, chicks and habitat.
