New Par 5 and gender-free tees in play at Maleny Golf Club Maleny Golf Club’s growing membership is about to celebrate the rst anniversary since all 18 holes were opened for play last year, with the extension of the Par 4 Ninth into a Par 5 and construction of a spacious new practice green as added bonuses. Members will be attending a BBQ on the deck to celebrate following a competition round at 12:30pm on Tuesday 13 April. The club has also maintained its innovative ways by ditching red, white and blue as tee colours, thereby eliminating traditional gender-centric sterotypes.

Causing quite a stir on social media, their Face Book page has never been so busy since the news about their genderneutral tees broke. The club consistently strives to be innovative and inclusive, with golf stereotypes being challenged, resulting in more players being drawn to the game. Several clubs around Australia have also rebranded their tees like this, allowing players of all ages to play off a more skill and age-appropriate length, and without facing the stigma

of playing 'from the ladies tee', with good results. Club professional Wayne Perske said Farm (green), Obi (stone) and Mountain (black) had replaced old Ladies, Men’s and Championship tees – the aim being to enhance exibility and further encourage enjoyment of the course by all players, regardless of their gender or ability. "To further encourage enjoyment at Maleny Golf Club we have introduced gender neutral tees” said Wayne. "This means players can choose which tees they play from without the stigma of being boxed into gender roles. They can then play from tees that are more suited to their ability or to challenge themselves by trying a longer layout. Our course ratings re ect the dif culty for both men and women and in future golfers will be able to play competition golf in mixed competitions from the tee block of their choice,” Wayne explained. “This could result in a more enjoyable round, with better scores and maybe even fewer lost balls.” Come and try their new Farm, Obi and Mountain tees for yourself! Where’s Sam We’re trying to keep up with Maleny’s Sam Hughe’s adventures as he makes his way around Oz in his incredible rig to raise funds for charities. As we write, Sam’s Face Book page "The Travelling Jackeroo” tells us that he is currently working on a station near Augethella for a few days to a week. But the BIG news is that Sam has got himself a new travelling companion! Yes, ‘Bitsa’ now goes with Sam every inch of the way! Sam picked Bitsa up from the Charleville pound. She looks happy in her new home and we’re sure she's gonna be a great mate to have on the road. Charleville Autocare built the dog crate for her which awesomely ts perfectly on the tractor. keeping her in the shade with plenty of air ow. We’re guessing she’ll be getting a few rides up front in the cab with Sam too, listening to Slim Dusty? Sam’s page, now subscribed to by more than 36,000 followers, is a lively and daily account of his travels, stuffed with photos, tales and the odd video too. It’s de nitely well worth joining in the fun and you can nd it at: https://www.facebook.com/thetravellingjackaroo You can donate to the Royal Flying Doctor Service on behalf of Sam at: https://rfds-qld.giveeasy.org/the-travelling-jackaroo
