Maleny District Sport & Recreation Club Community Newsletter New Golf Professionals at Maleny Golf Club! It is not widely appreciated that “Royal” Maleny Golf Club can trace it’s origins back to the late 1920s on a site where Maleny High School now stands. The club was formed in 1929 and play commenced in 1930 after a great deal of passion and energy had been expended getting the 9-Holes ready for action. There’s always lots of activity up at the beautiful Maleny Golf Club. This week the club announced the appointment of two new staff members, both professionals and both looking forward to meeting you.

The club is very pleased to introduce Rob McConnell and Nicola Moult, who will be operating in the combined roles of golf and course professionals and managing the Golf Shop. Rob is a well known and fully quali ed PGA member with a wealth of proven proshop business management experience. Nicola, who played on the European Tour for many years, as well as the 2000 US Women’s Open and 2001 Women’s British Open, is an experienced and quali ed UK and Australian PGA Member, bringing with her a wealth of golf club operational experience. She confesses that she has already fallen for the Maleny golf course and is very much looking forward to working with members, visitors and juniors to improve all aspects of their game. Welcome to Maleny Nicola and Rob, we can’t wait to get on the course with you both. To book your game of golf on the 18 hole course in the lush green hills of North Maleny that promotes “Golf as it Began" just go to : https://www.malenygolfclub.com.au/ Photo left: whether in the golf shop or on the course, you’ll nd Nicola and Rob ready to welcome you to the Maleny Golf Club.

Reminder masks still mandatory Today Queensland recorded two new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 – both linked to current cases and detected in home quarantine. Police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski reminded Queenslanders restrictions remained in place across much of the state's south-east corner and masks were required until 6:00am on Friday. 58 masks yesterday were handed out to maskless people, so we are still seeing people not carrying masks and not wearing them when they should. "We did have to issue three penalty infringement notices, and two were for people who refused to wear masks once being given the option. The other was for a person who provided a false declaration in coming across our border.” continued Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski At our road borders yesterday, 2,053 vehicles were intercepted and only one turned around. It was also announced that a new case was acquired overseas and detected in hotel quarantine. The Premier, Ms Annastacia Palaszczuk said they were ‘keeping a very close eye’ on the situation in NSW as it continued to worsen. She continued that she will not hesitate to slam Queensland’s borders shut to NSW. With only a third of Queensland’s residential aged care workers having received a Covid-19 jab there is just 10 weeks left to cover the rest of the workforce to receive theirs before the government’s deadline for all aged care workers to be vaccinated. You can check out any Covid Exposure sites at: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronaviruscovid-19/current-status/contact-tracing#QLD.

Maleny Historical Memories with Desley Malone

Remembering Nagy’s Cafe 19 and 21 Maple St, called the Nagy Building, saw Mary and Nandor Nagy run a cafe with their family from about 1966. Earlier this was the "Willow" Cafe" run by Mrs Myers. She sold to Guy "Cuthy" Cuthbertson and his wife Clarice. In 1966 it was was bought by the hard working Nagy's and run as a general grocery store and petrol service.

Let’s keep the country working by supporting Australian jobs. Buy Australian made and owned!

Everything could be bought at Nagy’s, in including petrol from a pump outside (now long gone). They were always open and Mary was well known for her kindness to locals. In 2008 there were 2 businesses in the building. The Big Byte Cafe and Maleny Harvest. There were professional of ces in the old residential area above the Maleny Diner in 2016. Today an art gallery, a mens fashion store and a whole foods shop run from the downstairs areas.
