In the early days accidents at Maleny were serious from timber-felling and saw-milling. In 1904 an Ashford Litter was purchased (a human propelled cart) with a stretcher, and 3 additional stretchers were placed in the homes of Mr J Grigor (Wootha), Mr W Simpson (North Maleny) and Mr L Tesch, Teutoburg, RelaysWitta.

Of course, the Public Stargazing events and consequently the display at Pattemore House are weather dependent – so if it’s cloudy or worse on Saturday, its off - but you can keep a check on this at the astronomers Facebook page

More about Ken Wishaw. Ken has had a passion for both astronomy and nature photography all his life. He has received several awards for his work, starting with a state award for NSW Junior Astrophotographer of the year when just Specialising16. in starscapes, he feels this is where there is the most opportunity for capturing unique moments and making comment about the night sky environment.
Here’s the timetable:
A weather update will be on the astronomers FB page on Friday. Please come prepared for COVID precautions; bring some handwash and observe precautions where you can.
No pets please as they are a trip hazard at Donationsnight. to help run these stargazing events are not compulsory – but greatly appreciated. The astronomers suggest $5 for individuals and $10 for families.
The Brisbane Astronomical Society has advised that their next Public Stargazing event at the Maleny Observatory will be going ahead this Saturday so far, as the weather is looking very favourable. As an additional treat for stargazers, the Friends of Pattemore House are opening up their historical venue (adjacent to the Maleny Observatory) to allow viewing of their brand new display “The Timeless Night Sky” – a wonderful selection of astro and nature photography from astronomer Ken Wishaw.

Born and bred in Maleny, Walter Rixson Burnett attended the Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane as a boarder and moved back to Maleny in 1930 to manage the Maleny Hotel for his parents, who'd been the proprietors since 1923.
The Hotel was a popular destination for bowlers after the Burnetts established the Maleny Bowling Greens on land beside the Hotel. Rixson continued to run the Hotel with his parents, and with his wife Peg, built their home on a block of land beside the Hotel to allow him to be handy when he was Inrequired.1955he was elected as a Councillor on the then Landsborough Shire Council and served an

here was jubilation mixed with bowls last Sunday, when the Maleny Bowls Club celebrated their 85th Birthday. They took the opportunity to have their Patron, Andrew Powell MP, officially unveil the new signage, naming the green after the original owner who donated the land the club sits on - Mr W.H.R Burnett.
Rixson had studied accountancy after leaving school at Gympie and had a good position with Burns Philp & Company in Brisbane, which he gave up because of his parents' poor health.
Andrew Powell said "It was an honour, as Club Patron, to do the official unveiling alongside Mr Burnett’s granddaughter, Carol Cook. And I was equally honoured to be welcomed in to the Bowls Queensland family by Vice President Kerry Green. I feel a future bowls career coming on!”.

The bleak morning brewed heavy rain from dark grey clouds, causing a great deal of disappointment, only to lift just in time for the fair to begin at the state School at 3.30 pm. Why am I including this in this week’s report? Well, we had been invited to participate in the Village Green section at the fair and had set up some hoops – a “half half” lawn – on which children and adults alike could try playing mini golf croquet.
Well, we were certainly lucky on Friday 9th of September, a day when heavy rains and storms were forecast, and when the long awaited Maleny Spring Fair was to finally happen after being cancelled last year due to heavy rain.
The Range Croquet Club - Maleny
Thursday, September 1st saw a very even match with Sarah Walton and Sally Adams team up to play Lynette Evans ending in a nine all draw. Meanwhile Nick Cram played a great game against Dianne Horsemen. Although Dianne played very well scoring 15 people she was no match for Nick in the long-term who won with a score of 22 hoops.
is available on Saturday mornings at
For details contact Sarah Widin 0417640704 (President ) Court Hire.
Sunday afternoon September 1st saw four players arrive for game of doubles. This time Dianne and Lynette paired up to play Helen Andrews and Stuart Craig. Dianne and Lynette came out winners with a score of 15 hoops to 5. Play days: Thursday and Sunday 1.00 pm for 1.30. Contact Sarah Widin for other days. Please arrive at 1 pm for games to be arranged by Coaching1.15.:
We enjoyed our young visitors, showing children of various ages – from tiny tots to teenagers and some parents too – the ropes. Some of the older kids had a natural talent, and enjoyed making hoops and the more competitive aspects of the game.

In other club news, we played our usual Thursday afternoon Association Croquet matches, with two singles match-ups. Helen Uhlmann was grossly outclassed by Dianne Horsman, who graciously “gifted” Helen with a second try at several butchered hoop shots. Maybe it was too painful to watch the ball sticking in the hoops yet again? Dianne triumphed 9:4. Meanwhile Nick Cram played Donna Manning, with Donna coming out the victor with a score of 9 hoops to Nick’s 7.
Our courts may be available for community use or for special events, like workplace teambuilding or social gathering. Our croquet equipment may be available for your guests in some special occasion (e.g. wedding) if suitable grounds are available. Whether you are thinking of taking up a new sport or an experienced croquet player, you are invited to visit the Range Croquet Club. If you are interested, please phone, email or use the contact page above.
The real stars, though, were the tiny tots who had an absolute blast and found putting the ball through the
