One era nishes & another one starts
With the move of the Maleny S.E.S Group and the Maleny R.F.B to their new premises in Dixon Avenue, Maleny it left a vacancy in the Maleny Show Society Dairy Pavilion. This pavilion was built by volunteers from the Maleny Show Society and the Maleny SES Group and RFB in the late 1980’s. As a project of the Maleny Show Society decided to organise a memorial to pioneers of the Maleny Dairy Industry. This project has been assisted by volunteers from the Maleny Cricket Club whose home ground is the Maleny Show-grounds. Initially, the Maleny Cricket grounds were levelled and constructed by local cricketer, Aub Cork. Today that grounds is named the Aub Cork Oval. The area next to the Dairy Pavilion, is dedicated to born and bred Maleny dairy farmer, Evan Evans, who descended from a family of founders of the Australian Illawarra Shorthorn. It is called the Evan Evans Arena. He was also show president and vice president for a number of years. Another local, Dave Hankinson was a Landsborough Shire Councillor between 1946 and 1980. He was a prime driver of initial development of the Maleny Show-grounds premises, resulting in the main area being named in his honour, The Dave Hankinson Arena.
Witta Handcraft Markets
Without the work of these civic pioneers the Maleny Show-grounds would not exist and then followed by many volunteers it has continued to expand.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny The lawns had a well-deserved rest this week. A music festival at the show-grounds meant there was no play on Sunday 12th while Tuesday ricochet was cancelled because of the running of some horse race in Victoria. There were two days of play: Sunday 5th and Thursday 9th. On Sunday Wallace Roy backed up after three games in which he won the 4th Division. With three players available Dianne (always game) Horsman suggested a “Scarborough” game of association. Yellow clip goes to the peg. Each of the other players chooses a ball, Red, Blue, or Black which may be used with Yellow which is positioned by the player in play. Wallace earned distinction yet again by winning 6, 5, 5 against Helen Andrews and Dianne though It must be said that Dianne had an encumbrance in the form of Keith Smith (or was that Jones) an onlooker from over the fence who was bought, innocent that he was, into the game as her partner. Lynette Evans and Helen put an end to Wallace’s winning streak when they teamed up to beat Vince Carbery and Wallace 13 – 10 in a game of doubles on Thursday. Dianne distinguished herself by making a 9-break in her game against Sarah Widin to win 18 – 15, while at the same time Nick Cram repeated his performance in the second division tournament just held to beat Donna Manning 18 -14. He was the only person to beat her. Share your secret Nick. The attached photo shows Mike Bertram of Caloundra receiving the rst division shield from club president Sarah Widin.
