Maleny District Sport & Recreation Club Community Newsletter Maleny Coat Rack is Back! More than ever this wonderful provision of warm clothing is paramount as the cold of winter settles in. The Maleny Coat Rack is located in the laneway next to IGA and anyone is welcome to take or leave an item of warmth. Your donations of winter jackets, coats, jumpers and cardigans for men, women and children, and blankets too, are welcomed. Organiser Ra' Yoga and Lifestyle’s Suzi Lough had a lovely experience recently. Suzi described what happened - she said "Thank you to Christine Gardiner, who drove from Buderim especially to meet me at

Landsborough to donate a coat and some other items to the Coat Rack, the coat being something so special to her. We sat together and enjoyed a coffee, it as so lovely to hear her story about her coat and how much it meant to her and how she wanted to donate it to our Maleny Coat Rack. What a special world it is when you notice the good stuff !”. The rack can only take the items mentioned so it is super important that everyone respects the rack and the IGA premises. Please help to rack small, tidy, and non intrusive – making it easy for the IGA staff to manage.

The Maleny IGA fully supports the concept of the rack, staff taking it inside their store each evening as they close and bringing it out each morning as they open, which is such a wonderful community act of kindness. Thank you everyone for your support!

St George’s In The Hills Concert Series

A Dash of Kim Kirkman Magic

The St George’s In The Hills is pleased to welcome Kim Kirkman for an enchanting afternoon of voice, violin and harp. Parish priest Deborah Bird says the concert will be an opportunity to enjoy one of our region’s most engaging talents. “Kim’s performances are always compelling mix of virtuosity, humour and warmth. We’re very much looking forward to Kim weaving his magic in the peaceful setting of St George’s.” As performer, teacher and choral conductor, Kim maintains a busy performance schedule. His work has taken him from operatic companies in Queensland and Victoria to vocal and orchestral collaborations all over the world, including 6 years as musical director of the Ten Tenors and current work in harp therapy. He is in high demand as an adjudicator and is heavily invested in our communities, conducting the Inspiration Choir, Tapestry (a capella chamber choir), the Caloundra Chorale and Hot Ginger Chorus. The event is the second of this year’s St George’s In The Hills series following the enigmatic performance of jazz pianist Michael Farager in April. “Kim Kirkman In Concert” will be held at St George’s Anglican Church, 2 Walkers Drive Maleny, on Saturday June 19 at 3pm.

Don’t Miss the Yeomen!

The Singers had a very successful opening night last Saturday with the opening of their season of Gilbert and Sullivan’s "Yeomen of the Guard”. If the commentary as they left was anything to go by, audience members were enraptured with the opening nigh's performance - “Very, very professional…..Great entertainment!…. Loved every second!”. The Singers have clearly put lots of legwork into elevating their already high standard of singing and performance. The orchestra were superb. The solos, a beautifully delivered quartet and the chorus numbers all presented a cracking good tale of skulduggery, a missing prisoner, a mystery husband and much intrigue. An excellently done rendition of one of G&S’s nest works. Kudos indeed to director and conductor Margaret Taylor, the Maleny Performing Arts Orchestra, Margaret's troupe of wonderful singers, and the very slick production crew.
