the Community

At Christmas time it’s sometimes easy to forget that there are families doing it tough, especially after the year that 2020 has been – and Maleny is no exception. But the spirit of giving and cooperation is always there in our wonderful town and it’s great to see local traditions are still going strong.

have generously provided vouchers. Don’t forget, the traditional Community Christmas Day Breakfast that is normally hosted by and held at the Neighbourhood Centre is still happening! However due to Covid restrictions the venue will be Bicentennial Park (next to the Neighbourhood Centre in Bicentenary Lane).

John te Kloot from the Lions Club of Maleny Blackall Range is pictured here providing a generous range of IGA vouchers in response to the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre's recent Christmas gift bag appeal.

The picnic BBQ breakfast is from 8 - 10 am, with vegetarian options and there’s plenty of large shade trees; but please bring your own picnic blanket or chairs for this Covid safe event!

In previous years, the MNC would ask local businesses to create hampers which were then distributed to families in need. The vouchers mean that families can buy exactly what they need and continue to support local businesses. The MNC still throw in a few treats too! Many thanks to the Neighbourhood Centre, the Lions Club of Maleny and to all the businesses who

Maleny Show on for 2021! We are so excited to announce that our Show Society committee has been able to successfully secure federal Covid grant funding money which will help cover operational funding for the last 12 months, and go towards our planning for our 2021 Show. Federal MP for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, made an announcement recently, saying "Maleny Show will be able to go ahead in 2021 – barring a new wave of COVID-19 - thanks to a $70,000 grant from the Morrison Government. The grant will be used by Maleny Show Society to pay for expenses like grounds maintenance, rates, utilities, insurance, and much more to ensure they are ready and able to bounce back next year. Every year the Maleny Show is absolutely the biggest show in town and it has been very disappointing for all of us to miss out in 2020. However, thanks to this grant I’m sure that next year’s Maleny Show will be our best yet. I'll see you there!” We all missed the Show this year - so see you at the 2021 Maleny Show! Maleny Swimming Club “Pool Update”

The shared Community Lunch is a program of the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

2020 threw up many unexpected challenges for everyone due to the Covid situation, not least to community organisations running facilities that they maintain, run and share with the public.

Lunch is set out at 12.30pm. Cost is $7. This lunch on Thursday 17 December, 2020, is the Christmas Lunch and the last for the year.

It’s therefore been disappointing to read the Maleny Swimming Club’s volunteers coming in for some unfair and ignorant criticism recently on Maleny’s social media pages from a few keyboard warriors as the pool wasn’t able to open at the beginning of the season. The Covid situation was the culprit, coupled with late funding from Council. Throughout, the Swim Club's members and volunteers continued working hard to to recruit a manager for the pool since con rmation of funding. They are currently following up some hopeful leads and have also employed a company to facilitate the opening of the pool.

Maleny Historical Society displays Regional Art collectio The Sunshine Coast Regional Art Collection have an exhibition in Lawley House.

A date for re-opening is being addressed and will be made public very soon. They appreciate many folk (the Swim Club included) are keen for the pool to be open and full of happy swimmers again.

The collection titled “Life in the bush & on the land” is an exhibition of paintings, textiles, sculpture and watercolours re ecting scenes of rural life, landscapes and agriculture in Australia. It also depicts pioneering times through the eyes of Australian artists.

Please feel free to contact Maleny Swim Club's President Gail Ring on: maleny.bramasole@gmail.com She is happy to answer queries. MDSRC would like to reiterate full support for Gail and her hard-working committee and thank everyone for continuing to show patience and understanding.

The collection can be seen on our Open Days at the Pioneer Village, every Tuesday and Saturday from 9.00 4.00pm until 30 March 2021.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny On Thursday two fourteen-point games were played. Helen Andrews and Donna Manning 2 lost their game against Vince and Val Carbery who pegged out with 14 points. Sally Adams and Janelle Wilson played a friendly game which ended in a 7 all draw. On Sunday the rain came down and no play was recorded. The attached photograph shows that not all the activities on the lawn are carried out with a mallet. Here Sarah Widin, Wallace Roy and Stuart Craig demonstrate their skill at gardening, and in Wallace’s case practising a little yoga, as they attempt to remove some carpet grass from the lawn.

December to top dress. We are trying again for the 21 st after which there will be no play for a while – probably until early January when the grass thickens. Thanks go to all who have helped to maintain our lawns. Our excellent, well cared for lawns are situated 200 m in on the right side of the show grounds. Play days: Thursday and Sunday 2.00 pm for 2.30. Contact Sarah for other days.

Please arrive at 2 pm for games to be arranged by 2.30. Coaching: is available on Saturday mornings at 8 am For details contact Vince Carbery 54942193 (president), or Priscilla Vickers 54943555 (secretary).
