Where’s Sam, the Travelling Jackaroo? Well, Sam is now in Darwin. We thought you’d like to read one of his latest blog posts this week….so read on. "One question I get asked a fair bit by people when I pull up is - who are my role models that I look up to? I’ve got a few, including my parents, and Jack Absalom and Ted Egan. But perhaps the biggest of all for me is Joy McKean and David Gordon Kirkpatrick, also known as Slim Dusty. Whilst a lot of people listen to their music and appreciate it, few people realise how much they actually spent on the road travelling the outback -
and in doing so, bringing entertainment to those out west who otherwise would have missed out. Slim being one of my role models is one of the main reasons I’ve got my movie cinema setup, as it’s one of my key beliefs to have fair access for all. This is one of the reasons I support Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia who bring medical attention to all regardless of distance. But back to Slim and Joy. They spent years and years travelling Australia before the bitumen, when getting bogged was a regular occurrence and sometimes you were a few days late. There are thousands and thousands of people they met whose lives they changed (Trumby for example made Aboriginal education rates increase). They made history together, as the records increased by the year, and you’d be hard pressed to nd anyone in this country who doesn’t know the name Slim Dusty. Unfortunately Slim died the same year I was born, so I never got the chance to say G’day - but I’ve been lucky enough to speak with some of those who knew him well, including Gordon Parsons, the son of the Gordon Parsons who wrote the 'Pub With No Beer' for Slim and many other country music singers who met him and even preformed with Slim. But all that aside, one of the biggest reasons Slim and Joy are my role models is that they were (and in Joy's case still is), real Fair Dinkum have a go Australians. Eighteen years ago on 19th September (or as long as I’ve been alive) we lost a true Aussie legend. But both Slim and Joy still continue to change lives and to entertain us all even today. I’ve even named 2 of my vehicles after them, Slim the Chamberlain and Joy the Sierra!”. You can follow Sam’s amazing adventures at: https://www.facebook.com/thetravellingjackaroo

Welcome to the 2021 Maleny Country Fair!
Your Club News If your club or organisation is an associate member of the Maleny District Sports and Recreation Club then you can publicise your club results and news in this, our “Community Billboard”.
Proudly brought to you by our three local Primary Schools, the Maleny, River and Conondale schools. After the cancelling of many community and not-for-pro t events and fund-raising activities since the pandemic commenced, the local Primary Schools' Parents' Associations have come together, as one, in the spirit of cooperation and mutual support to re-imagine a Country Fair that is open to everyone in our local communities.
Keep your events diary up to date on the MDSARC Inc Web site so that we all know about your communities important events.
This renewed and expanded annual event will see the Maleny State School’s main oval transformed into a traditional ‘Village Green’ lled with stalls offering fresh food and favourite homemade treats, assorted games, a licenced bar, sideshow rides and other attractions (including Mobile Farm, Fire Engine, Croquet, Netball games, parading of the TS Centaur Naval Cadets) along with a packed Entertainment Program featuring local community groups, school bands, choirs, dance groups and associated professional performers.
This is your newsletter - let all of Maleny know the latest info from your club every week! All articles, results, posters and photos (as large sized jpegs, please do not embed these in a Word doc) for inclusion in the weekly sports results should be emailed to denvergail1@gmail.com no later than 12 noon every Monday.
Through combining all 600 students and their families across all three primary schools in our 4552 postcode AND opening the ‘Village Green’ to everyone, the Maleny Country Fair will cater to our youngest through to those who are ‘young-at-heart’ from our local communities.

Maleny Cricket Club News
Last Saturday's one day game saw the Maleny Redbacks 3rd Division side fall short of victory against Maroochydore, despite the outsanding efforts of Jonty Corkin (pictured). Batting rst the Redbacks openers Kyle Jackson and Jonty Corkin jumped out to a yer being 27 off three overs. When Jackson lost his wicket in the 4th over, Corkin then set about combining with Paddy Hogan (32 runs) in a 62 run partnership to have Maleny 1 for 90 off 11 overs. However the lose of Hogan in the 12th over started a top order collapse with the Redbacks losing 4 wickets for 28 runs. Ben Brown then came to the crease to 'stop the rot' and combine with Corkin in a 56 run partnership. Dispatching balls to all parts of the eld, Corkin bought up his century with a well timed four. Corkin was out a short time later for exactly 100. Some lower order hitting by Yani Thimios (16 runs) saw Maleny amass 222 of their 40 overs. Maroochydore went in to bat and were scoring at a rapid rate, despite losing early wickets. With the Swans 3 for 59 off 7 overs, the game was evenly poised. Despite the Redbacks best efforts, the Maroochydore batsman combined in a 68 run partnership, followed by a 95 run partnership to secure victory with 3 overs to spare. Maleny travels to Nambour next week to take on the home team.

Joyce Newton Memorial OAM Bursary
Member for Glass House Andrew Powell has announced Mt Mee local Mikayla Crouch the 2021 winner of the annual $1,000 Joyce Newton OAM Memorial Bursary. Raised on a Mt Mee dairy farm, Mikayla is keen to pursue a career in agriculture and environmental sustainability to show the world that farmers love and care for their environment.
As an indication of how tight the competition was between the three nalists, the panel decided to award bursaries of $750 each to the two runnersup – Leo de Clara of Beerburrum, who attends St Joseph’s Nudgee College, and Chelsea-Ann Johnson of Peachester, who attends Glasshouse Photo: Andrew Powell Christian College. congratulates runner-up ChelseaThe three winners Ann Johnson received vouchers to Concept IT at Maleny. Thursday, 14th Lynette Evans, Sarah, and Wallace enjoyed an afternoon with the lawn to themselves, playing a six-ball game with no result recorded. There was a lot of rain about that afternoon so it probably washed the chalk from the board. Friday, 15th More rain, enough to draw the Caloundra Club’s visit to our lawn to an early close. Sally Adams, Sarah, Wallace, Vince, and Val packed up in the rain. Sunday, 17th This cryptic report by Vince was made of Sunday’s play when he played Val. “Only one game was played this afternoon, with V playing V, and V winning 26 to 3, pegging out in less than 100minutes. At the end of play, one V was exhausted from so much time on the lawn. The other V learnt a lot by watching the master class on display. The exhausted one has recovered, and she is feeling much better.” The attached photo was taken on Friendship Day and, not thinking that it would be used, names were not obtained. Close inspection shows an almost perfect jump shot being executed. The ball is hit off the ground with the intention of clearing the ball in the jaws of the hoop to make it. Well done that unnamed golf croquet player! Start times on play days, Thursday, and Sunday, have changed. They are now 2.00 for 2.30 p.m. Play days: Thursday and Sunday 2.00 pm for 2.30. Contact Sarah for other days.
