Millennials Child Millennials Child is a sharp and prickly comedy. It is the result of endless conversations that writer and director Simon Denver has had over the last ten years. Some of which he has instigated, some he's witnessed and some he's been involved in. No matter what his level of participation the theme of these conversations stays true - Our Changing Society. So many changes, so much anger and so much confusion. In fact we live in the greatest time of social upheaval - ever. So? Perfect scope for comedy. The plot is simple. After a 25 year high school reunion the members of the debating team, armed only with opinions and alcohol, retire to their captains house to generally catch up. As they start to dissect the last 25 years it all slides south as they discover that the only thing they have in common is they can't nd consensus.

Maleny State Emergency Service

The message is simple IF IT’S FLOODED, FORGET IT If you require SES assistance please call 132500

If you are in a life threatening situation call 000

The cast is Mary Eggleston, Angel Goulter, Sarah McMahon, Howard Tampling and Jimmy Halliday. SRT is performing a series of rehearsed readings of this play. Why a rehearsed reading? Well they are just about essential for any new work to nd out whether the script will work or not. Simon Denver's previous play "Muse" had a very successful rehearsed read. The reads include two at the Maleny Playhouse. A Matinee on Sat 2nd May at 2pm and another matinee on Sat 8th May at 2pm. ANZAC

Biscuit

Most family recipes tell a story, but none so much, or with as much mystery still surrounding it, as the Anzac biscuit. The Anzac biscuit is a sweet biscuit popular in Australia and New Zealand, made using rolled oats, our, sugar, butter, golden syrup, baking soda, boiling water, and (optionally) desiccated coconut. Anzac biscuits have long been associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) established in World War I. The earliest known recipe combining the words 'anzac' and 'biscuit' is a recipe from 1916 for "ANZAC GINGER BISCUITS" which was published in the Perth edition of The Sunday Times. However, this recipe contains no mention of oats present in modern Anzac biscuits.

anyone?

after Gallipoli,” Ms Reynolds said. The rst version of this rolled oats-based biscuit reportedly appeared around 1823, and over the next century took on various names such as 'surprise biscuits' and ‘crispies’. "Then around the early WWI years you started to see the name change to 'red cross biscuits' and ‘soldiers biscuits'," Ms Reynolds said. "These biscuits were used as a form of fundraising, so they gave them a war connected name which helped sell them." The biscuits quickly became a popular food to send to Australia's overseas forces, due to their accessible ingredients, easy cooking method, and lack of eggs that meant the biscuits kept well. Ms Reynolds has traced the rst printed 'Anzac biscuit' recipe to a 1917 Australian publication called the War Chest Cookery Book. However, whilst this recipe used the famous biscuit title, it didn't resemble the recipe as we know it today. ”The ingredients are different; it's got eggs in it, the method is different and it's sandwiched together with jam and cream," says Ms Reynolds. "So we can't really say that's the rst Anzac biscuit, even though they call it the Anzac biscuit." Instead, it was a housewife's small South Australian notebook that helped date the origins of a more authentic Anzac biscuit recipe. “It started off as a recipe book in 1910, but then when the war years came, from 1915 it got used at the back to record the sales of butter and eggs,”

For 18 months, culinary historian Allison Reynolds trawled through old recipe books trying to discover the origins of this famous Australian snack. “The thing you have to remember is the Anzac biscuit wasn't called this before 1915 because that's when the acronym came in

Ms Reynolds explains. “The information about the sales at the back of the book met the recipes coming forward, and the most exciting thing is that the Anzac biscuit is the last bar one. "The information ceased in 1920 so we think the recipe is circa 1919."

But there was one thing still missing from this recipe, coconut, and it was in a 1924 Adelaide booklet that the most enduring version of the Anzac biscuit was found. “At this moment in time, our rst recipe with coconut was in the 1924 Anchor Ann Vinyl Co is your trusted ooring specialist with over 9 years Cookbook and that is the recipe that is nearest industry experience! to the recipe we know today.” Contact us today for a free measure However, the marvel of Face book has and quote, we specialist in Vinyl, unearthed this recipe - so for anyone would like Carpet and Floor levelling. the CWA 1914 recipe for ANZAC biscuits, Quality you can trust. minus coconut, yearn no more. The Traditions of ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day services are rich in military protocol and tradition. But do you know what these traditions mean and how they came about?

but is represented at ANZAC ceremonies by the memorial.

The Last Post

A Sprig of Rosemary Rosemary has been associated with remembrance since ancient times, but its particular signi cance to ANZAC Day dates back to World War I. Native to the seaside regions of the Mediterranean, rosemary grows wild on the slopes of the Gallipoli Peninsula. Tradition has it that a wounded Digger brought home a small rosemary bush from ANZAC Cove, which was planted in the grounds of the Army Hospital at Keswick, South Australia. Cuttings from this original plant were taken and propagated in nurseries all over Australia, and sprigs of rosemary are worn to this day by attendees at ANZAC Day ceremonies as fragrant reminder of the fallen.

The Catafalque party At the beginning of an ANZAC Day service, four members of the Defence Force take up position around the cenotaph or shrine, standing with their heads bowed and arms (the weapons they are carrying) reversed. They remain there as a mark of respect for the fallen until the end of the service. These four sentries are known as a catafalque party. A catafalque (pronounced cat-a-falk) is a raised platform on which a cof n rests before burial,

There are few who can avoid a lump in their throat at haunting sound of a lone bugler sounding the Last Post. The Last Post is traditionally the bugle call that signals the end of the working day, but it has been adopted in commemorative services to herald the service people who have gone to their nal rest. At Dawn Services, the minute’s silence is broken by the Reveille – traditionally, the rst call of the day to wake sleeping soldiers.

The Ode of Remembrance Less than two months after WWI was declared, with heavy casualties already being reported, English poet Laurence Binyon wrote For the Fallen. Since 1921, the fourth stanza – known as The Ode – has become a central part of ANZAC ceremonies, encapsulating Australia’s collective sense of respect and loss for the service people who gave their lives during World War I, and in all con icts since: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Gun re Breakfast Your local RSL Sub Branch may host a Gun re Breakfast following the Dawn Service, but do you know why? Rather than artillery, ‘gun re’ refers to the rum-laced coffee or tea that is served alongside the bacon and eggs, and harks back to the measure of liquid courage that was served up at the beginning of the day to help soldiers face the coming battle. photo: The Catafalque Party Maleny RSL Cenotaph

Dogs on Leash Please!

For the Fallen With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her esh they were, spirit of spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres. There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.

With the expansion of the fabulous Northern Wetlands walking trails on the Maleny Precinct, just a timely reminder that all dogs must be on leash at all times on the Maleny Community Precinct. There is signage advising same around the walking the tracks, and please always bag and take home your doggie's offerings for the comfort and hygiene of everyone!

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England’s foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain, As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.
