New mowing site created on the Maleny Precinct. A new site at the Maleny Precinct has been added to the Program of Works. The new work area is a path, identi ed in blue on the map shown here and access is via Parkland Drive, on the Maleny Precinct, or from the walking trail from the Riverside Centre. The new path has an area of approximately 2190m2 and is scheduled to be mown 12 times per year by Council contractors. Members of Maleny District Sport and Rec Club and Maleny Golf Club worked with Councillor Winston Johnston and council of cers to initiate this new (mown) path, that now serves to extend the walk around the Northern Wetlands and joining back to the existing Precinct trail. It's great to see an additional, easy care walking trail for all to enjoy, thank you Sunshine Coast Council.

All articles, results, posters and photos (as large sized jpegs, please do not embed these in a Word doc) for inclusion in the weekly sports results should be emailed to denvergail1@gmail.com no later than 12 noon every Monday.

Pickleball! the biggest sport you've never heard of…. Pickleball starts in Maleny this weekend! But what is pickleball? It’s is a low-impact sport that is easy to learn and play at almost any age, and currently this 'sport for life' is regularly described as the fastest growing sport worldwide. It’s a paddleball sport (similar to a racquet sport) that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis.

classes, public parks and retirement communities. The sport has had a gradual introduction into Australia since 2015, with a small group of enthusiasts starting the rst incorporated association in 2017. The rapid growth of pickleball in Australia has resulted in the establishment of the Pickleball Australia Association in 2020.

the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modi cations. The rules of pickleball The rules of pickleball are predominantly the same as tennis or badminton Scoring is most similar to badminton — so you can only score a point while serving The ball has to be hit three times before it can by volleyed (hit before it bounces) You cannot volley the ball while standing in the area closest to the net (called the kitchen) Serving must be underarm The games are played as separate singles and doubles & mixed doubles.

The sport was created in 1965 by a group of friends in Bainbridge Island, Washington. Eager to play badminton one afternoon, but unable to nd a shuttlecock, they improvised by grabbing some table tennis paddles and a wif e ball (a plastic perforated baseball), and lowering the net on the badminton court. It proved ideal for young and notso-young players alike. It is now one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. The spread of the sport is attributed to its popularity within community centers, physical education

Associations and playing groups in every state and territory in Australia are now well connected with the rapidly growing pickleball commmunity worldwide.
