Sunday Lunch at the Pattemores’

Sunday lunches were always special for the Pattemore family. As was the practise at the time Sunday lunches were a more formal affair, even for family gatherings.

Each month Pattemore House hosts an Open Day on the verandah on the last Saturday of each month between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm (except December).

On these occasions, our famous home-made afternoon teas served on the wide sunny verandas are a must!

A visit to Pattemore House enables visitors to experience how in 1907 a pioneer family created a new life for themselves on the Blackall Range. Building a home by hand and earning a living in a new, challenging environment was no mean feat.

Back by popular demand Seniors’ Forum on Elder Abuse

We all want to believe we will be safe and cared for as we get older. But this does not always happen. What can we do to ensure the rights and safety of ourselves and our loved ones?

While there has been much publicity in recent years about domestic and family violence, there has been less emphasis on how our elders can also suffer physical, emotional, and financial abuse.

There will be a short film in the form of a drama outlining issues for older people and their legal rights, including Enduring Powers of Attorneys and Wills, followed by a complimentary morning tea.

After this a question-and-answer session will be hosted by Julian Porter from the Suncoast Community Legal Service. Representatives from Centacare.

Domestic Violence Service, Relationships Australia Elder Abuse team, & QPS Vulnerable Persons Unit, will also be available to speak to.

Come along to learn what you can do to ensure your rights to safety in your advanced years. And bring all your questions for the experts.

This interactive free session will focus on keeping us safe as we age, particularly the problems that can occur with giving friends and family power over our affairs – and how to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

It has been organised by Speak Up Now – Stop Domestic and Family Violence, a collaboration set up between the Rotary Club of Maleny, Zonta Blackall Range, Quota Club of Maleny, and the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

The main presenter on the day will be the Suncoast Community Legal Service, along with Relationships Australia, Centacare Domestic Violence Unit, Accredited Elder Abuse Lawyer, and QPS Vulnerable Persons Unit.

Where: Maleny RSL

When: Monday, 20th March - 9.00-11.30 am

It would be appreciated if you RSVPs for catering purposes by phone to Val on 0419599042 or email: speakupnowstopdomesticviolence@gmail.com

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny

We have much pleasing news of the exploits of our club members who have been playing in various tournaments so this will be the subject of this week’s report.

Donna Manning and Ken Barker played in Toowoomba in the Joy Gardner 2nd division trophy over the weekend of the 18th and 19th February. Donna played brilliantly in parts, making an eleven break with three balls, and finished with three wins from six.

Ken finished with four from six coming second overall behind Bill Habner from Nambour club. Conditions were beautiful both days, but hot on the Saturday. The organisers did a great job under very trying circumstances. Some were stranded in New Zealand because of cyclone Gabrielle.

Meanwhile, also on the 18th and 19th Lynette Evans was brilliant in winning Division 4 of the Bribie Island

Traditional Funerals Association Croquet Gala Event. It was a very exciting competition with six games played and the result going down to the wire, being undecided right up to the very last game.

Dianne Horsman also enjoyed competing in this tournament, with some healthy wins and some losses too. The attached photo shows Lynette with her trophy after the presentation.

In other away competitions, on the weekend on the 25th and 26th February, Donna and Ken have been competing in Division 2 section of the Mary Masters Association Croquet tournament at Bribie Island. In addition, on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th Lynette and Dianne are off to Bribie Island again to compete in the Sunshine Coast Ricochet Regionals tournament. We eagerly look forward to hearing how these players went and as always wish them a great time playing and every success.

Results will be published next week.
