Is this the next step? ….I hope not!

Think about the replicators on Star Trek and the many other machines that litter science fiction movies, which prep, cook, and serve meals on command. This could actually be our future. It is said that 3D food printing has the potential to revolutionise food production by boosting culinary creativity, food sustainability, and nutritional customisability. Most 3D printers work by slowly depositing layers of material, one on top of the other, until an object is constructed. Even a meat like substance can be printed from a vegetarian filament made from peas, seaweed, and rice, Whilst some see food printing as something that will become a part of the culinary fabric. Fast food might be somewhere some fast foods are printed instead of handmade. I certainly hope not! There is nothing like the taste of well cooked natural food.

Hello from MSHS Youth Support Coordinator From : Sue Krucker – Youth Support Coordinator @ Maleny State High School PATIENCE is a Virtue In our current days of progress and technology, it is understandable that we’ve become accustomed to immediacy … rapid results, fast communication, high-speed uploads, instant gratification. This habituated expectation affords us little opportunity to practice one of the greatest skills in life – to be patient. The slightest setbacks can, at times, make us extremely frustrated. It’s fair to assume that we all lose our patience occasionally, right? But doing so regularly or insensitively can tarnish our reputation, hurt our relationships, increase stress, or intensify a difficult situation. So, let’s explore the definition of Patience : noun – •

the quality of waiting calmly without complaining

The capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious

Persevering in the face of delay

the ability to be calm in the face of disappointment, adversity or distress

decreased depression, and increased positive affect relative to a control condition, suggesting that patience may be modifiable,” concluded Schnitker. Here are the three steps Schnitker suggests taking to work on your own patience:

Can you recognise in yourself any of these signs and symptoms of impatience : shallow breathing, tense muscles, restlessness, irritability or anger, anxiety or nervousness, rushing, quick / snap decision making.

1. Identify when you’re impatient and what emotion you’re feeling Recognise that you’re starting to feel activated and identify what emotion is at the heart of that response, causing you to get heated. Are you angry that you can’t get home faster? Are you sad or feeling rejected that potential date didn’t work out? Are you anxious that you’re not going to make it to your appointment on time?

“When you’re patient, you’re calmer, so you’re able to keep persisting when it’s difficult and you’re not prey to goal disengagement,” says Sarah A. Schnitker, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Baylor University. “You’re able to know when to act and when to conserve energy”.

2. Reframe how you think about the situation Put yourself in the other person’s shoes. (My coworker isn’t purposely trying to miss his deadlines; he has a lot on his plate.) Remember, whatever’s triggering your impatience many times isn’t about you. For example, the cash register didn’t break just so that your grocery-buying would take longer, or the train isn’t packed this morning just so that you can’t get a seat.

A study on the analysis of patience and well-being found that patience as a personality trait is actually flexible. “The program led to increased patience,

3. Think with your purpose in mind Remember the big picture perspective. Sure, it’s irritating that another job interview didn’t land you a new position, but

Hello from MSHS Youth Support Coordinator Con>nued from previous page you’re looking for a career move that’s going to help you accomplish your long-term goals. It’d be great if my toddler wouldn’t start pouting whenever she gets served green beans instead of ice cream, but it’s important that she learns what healthy eating means and gets into a routine of eating in that way. Remember why putting up with whatever delay or frustration you’re facing will ultimately help you get where you want to go. Tip: Many people become impatient due to physical factors such as hunger, dehydration or fatigue. Keep this in mind the next time you start to feel impatient. A simple remedy may be a snack and glass of water! “Practicing patience is far more than just learning to wait. It is an exercise of self-control. And the benefits that come from practicing patience yield more than being able to wait kindly for an extra minute or two in the check-out line. Patience yields selfmastery, being able to stay focused and positive despite hardship and challenge.” BluePineNotes For those interested, here’s the link to an online “Patience Quiz” https://www.englishclub.com/ref/Sayings/Quizzes/Patience/

Maleny RSL Friday night Social Meals are Back

Following a recent announcement from the State Premier, we are delighted to be able to further relax the restrictions on the operation of the kitchen and bar on Friday evenings. No need to book ahead unless you are planning a large event (celebration, birthday etc). Plenty of tables and seating are ready for you. The Bar will open from 4.30'ish and you will be able to order meals from 5.30pm. This will be reviewed as the days lengthen. Adhering to COVID-safe practices (i.e. sanitising hands and equipment and physical distancing, and if unwell, do not attend) does not detract from having a pleasant night out. We have our hall set out for diners/drinkers, with table only activity, all the while adhering to with COVID-19 requirements. Social distancing of 1.5m needs to be observed. We look forward to welcoming you to Maleny RSL.

Maleny Precinct news

There’s always a lot happening on the Maleny Precinct as the groups continue to develop their respective leased areas with Council for the enjoyment of the community. Here’s a round up of some of the latest activities and progress.

A New Home for Barung Landcare Visitors to the Precinct walk along the Obi Creek will have noticed some significant earthworks that began in June. These infrastructure Council-funded works are the long awaited first steps towards creating a permanent home for the Barung Community Native Plant Nursery on the Precinct. The finished project will include an Education Centre, an office, the Barung community nursery (to be relocated from its current temporary position in Porters Lane) and a native garden showcasing unique local plants. The project has been designed by well-known architect, Tim Guymer. Barung are committed to sharing knowledge about our biodiverse

natural environment through seminars, workshops, meetings and events – Barung President Ian McMaster said: “Barung has been committed for over thirty years to rebuilding sustainable ecosystems in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland by encouraging and supporting landscape restoration and interconnection. Our grateful thanks go to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and all our generous supporters for the first stage of this development. We have a long way to go before it is finished but starting the project is a tremendous boost for all of us at Barung.”

What does responsible pet ownership mean?

Whether you are a pet owner or not, Sunshine Coast Council is preparing to update the Domestic Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Strategy for the next 10 years, and they are seeking your feedback.

People have different connections with pets. For many people, they are more than just a pet – they offer companionship and are part of the family. Some people don’t like animals and prefer to enjoy places that are pet free. Others may not have a pet of their own but still enjoy being around pets in shared open spaces such as dog parks and dog off-leash areas. With all of this in mind, council developed three themes to guide the updated strategy, with a goal of creating harmonious coVisit us on Facebook

harmonious co-existence between people, pets and places.”

The themes are Educated Informed People, Happy Healthy Pets and Safe and Inclusive Places.

Service Excellence Portfolio Councillor Winston Johnston said whether you were a pet owner or not, your feedback was valuable.

The updated strategy will also be guided by the Queensland Government Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and Sunshine Coast Council Local Law and Subordinate Local Law No. 2 and will incorporate council’s activities in relation to lost and roaming pets, surrendered pets, the animal pound, rehoming pets and animal welfare.

“As our community continues to grow and evolve, so does the diversity of lifestyles and the ways in which pets share in our daily lives,” Cr Johnston said. “We want to know what people think about responsible pet ownership – what does it mean to you and how can council help? “The feedback we receive will help to shape the new strategy and the action plan that will help us to achieve the goal of creating

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny Musings from a newly minted croquet player

Play in the division 4 club championship is drawing to a close. At the time of writing, Priscilla Vickers appears to have an unbeatable lead.

Final results will be published in the next post. Donna Manning playing in the Queensland Open championship from the 18th to the 21st, acquitted herself well in several tough games against classy opposition. Les Watson from Eildon Club won the Championship, beating Dave

Luxmore, Burleigh Heads Palm Beach in the final.

Heather Knight fromStephens Club won the Plate. The games were all of a high quality, played in a friendly atmosphere with Covid rules strictly enforced. On Sunday Vince Carbery, Kath Smith, Donna and Priscilla played a game of doubles in which Vince and Priscilla 10, with Vince giving a master class in hoop running, beat Kath and Donna 4, before a threatening sky prompted an early finish Playdays: Thursday and Sunday 1.00 pm for 1.30.
