Maleny 2022 Rotary Calendar Winner
Your Club News
The ever popular Maleny Rotary Calendar Photo competition was judged last week and the First Prize winner was Kay Eastmure who submitted an entry entitled ‘Sunset Glow’. Second prize went to Wen-Chi Fan and third was to Paul Mellick.
If your club or organisation is an associate member of the Maleny District Sports and Recreation Club then you can publicise your club results and news in this, our “Community Billboard”.
This is the 15th year for the calendar, which is a major fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Maleny, and its popularity doesn’t seem to be waning. It never ceases to surprise us how many people send them to their friends and relatives, even overseas, to show how great it is to live up here in the hinterland region. And for tourists to the area, they are a must have souvenir.
Keep your events diary up to date on the MDSARC Inc Web site so that we all know about your communities important events.
The calendars will be on sale from late August in Maleny at various locations. If you can’t nd them, contact Rotary at:
This is your newsletter - let all of Maleny know the latest info from your club every week!
http://www.rotarymaleny.org and we’ll direct you to one of the outlets.
All articles, results, posters and photos (as large sized jpegs, please do not embed these in a Word doc) for inclusion in the weekly sports results should be emailed to
Thanks to all those photographers who entered into the spirit of the calendar competition by submitting their photos. We look forward to doing it all over again next year! (Image above shows Kay receiving her winning cheque from Rotarian Lionel Tilley) Image below shows winning entry.

Maleny Historical Memories Jane Hankinson’s Dol with Desley Malone One of the most treasured items in the Historical Society’s collection is a doll, gifted to the Society by the Hankinson Family. She belonged to Jane (Trail) Hankinson who was born in Maleny in 1885. Jane’s Grandmother was Jane Dunlop, a widow, with 5 young children, who was said to be the rst white woman to live on the Range in 1875. Jane’s parents were George and Jane (Dunlop) Trail. Jane Trail went to the Blackall Range School, married George Hankinson in 1903 and they had 3 children: Ted, Dave and Thelma. After Thelma’s death, the doll was kept by her granddaughter, Adele (Hankinson) McLachlan who passed away recently. The Hankinson Family has given the doll to the Society for posterity. This doll is among the most treasured items in their collection with signi cant provenance to Maleny’s history. She’s been identi ed as a German doll, has a ceramic head, hands and feet, and a soft body. Many descendants of the Dunlop, Trail, and Hankinson families still live in and around Maleny.
Where's Sam the Travelling Jackaroo? Well Sam as we all know is an energetic boy and always willing to help. One of his latest adventures has been hooking up with the Qld Show Circuit folk, affectionately known as “Showies". He’s been working their stalls, selling ride tickets, helping them move from town to town, dragging a few items around with Slim the trusty tractor and in exchange, they have been displaying his collection tins on their counters and feeding him and Bitsa.
because all the funds he’s raising are for the three charities, not for Sam. You can keep up with him at his great blog page: https://www.facebook.com/thetravellingjackaroo Photo Below: Slim and the rig on display at the Proserpine Show, raising funds
In the week leading up to 22nd June, Sam reports tha teveryone’s raised: $3,312 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service $1,559 for Dolly's Dream $798 for Drought Angels This week, he’s made it from Collinsville, where he and Bitsa really enjoyed the Rodeo, to Ayr. Not a bad hike for Sam and his unusual rig! Sam has to earn his living as he travels, working as he journeys as a "Jackaroo of All Trades" for anyone who is hiring, and helping out wherever he’s needed https://malenysportandrec.org.au/

having an enjoyable four days, thanks to the hospitality of the Toombul club. Janelle played on the 26 th and 27th, also at Toombul, acquitting herself commendably as the only 4 th division player in the 3 rd and 4 th division group. Perfect weather on Sunday 27 th encouraged enough players out to necessitate the use of two lawns. On lawn 1 Helen A. and Lynette Evans scored 9 hoops against Kath Smith and Stuart Craig who made 6. The attached photograph shows Stuart executing a half roll. His right hand is halfway down the mallet handle and his stance is slightly more forward than for a drive.
Donna Manning, Ken Barker and Janelle all competed in championship events over the past week. Ken and Donna played in the open at Toombul from the 19 th to the 22 nd with mixed results but
