Recycle end of life phones and batteries Now it is easy to recycle your old phones and batteries. the Glass House electorate have adopted.

Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable and used widely, from mobile phones and laptops to electric vehicles and solar panel systems. The demand for lithium-ion batteries is growing at a rate of more than 20 per cent a year in Australia due to increasing demand for portable and rechargeable devices and electric vehicles, according to the CSIRO. Ecocycle is Australasia’s most experienced mercury recovery and recycling company and is leading this initiative. Member for Glass House Andrew Powell is proud to promote an exciting new recycling initiative that Woolworths stores around

Maleny, Beerwah and Woodford Woolworths have joined over 1000 stores across Australia and introduced collection units for end-of-life batteries and old mobile phones. The aim of the initiative is to provide accessible points for the recycling of e-waste which would otherwise end up in land ll.

“Approximately 94% of household batteries are never recycled, and around 24 million unused phones are stored in homes across Australia, both items containing harmful substances that can damage the environment if improperly disposed into land ll”, said Mr Powell. “It’s great to have these collection points in such handy spots, encouraging us to gather up those spent batteries and outdated technology lying around the house and simply recycle them when we pop down for the groceries.” “We all know we need to do our bit for the environment, and it’s never been more convenient than now. I have complete con dence in Glass House electorate locals that this free service will be well used.” said Mr. Powell.

Whilst this area was not the hardest hit from the oods, it gave us a sense of doing something meaningful to clean up the debris from the last few

Fiddes Woodworking Products Fiddes has a long, proud history of caring for wood that began with the founder, Albert Fiddes, in the United Kingdom in the early part of last century and continues to this day.

Fiddes Australia.

T

- Woodworking Products

hrough more then 100 years and four generations, the name Fiddes has become synonymous with quality throughout the UK and now Australia through Fiddes Australia Fiddes has always had a progressive outlook, and today operates from modern, purpose built premises, utilizing the very latest technology to develop and produce a comprehensive range of wood nishes from the very nest raw materials available.

A Handy Painter’s Tip “Cutting In” You'll get better results if you cut in just one wall, then immediately roll out the wall before cutting in the next one. That's because if you roll out the wall right away, while the cut-in paint is still wet, the cut-in paint and the wall paint will blend much better, reducing the chance of lap marks. Paint ceilings rst before walls to avoid splattering nished walls!

This has lead to the development of safer, more environmentally friendly wood nishes, typi ed by the introduction of the highly successful Supreme Wax Polish and Hardwax Oil range. Hard Wax Oil is just as durable as a Water Based Polyurethane however it has the advantage of being replenishable. Fidders Hard Wax, under normal circumstances requires 2 thin coats. It will be dry in 4 hours in ideal conditions and will be fully cured in 7 days. Fiddes products are now available through Maleny Paint Supplies. An Old Codger’s Thoughts & Opinions

With this in view a serious look must be had at the recent antics of the Queensland Government. Because of the lack of oversight of the Queensland parliament by an Upper House another integrity scandal is engul ng the Palaszczuk government with explosive secret emails giving an insight into the government’s inner workings

And he swears that it 100% true. - No Bulls##t” The local Lions Club in our capitol city was collecting to assist those who had lost their houses during the recent Queensland oods. The Club organiser realised that it had never received a donation from the town's most successful solicitor. The volunteer in charge of contributions called the solicitor to persuade him to contribute. "Our research shows that out of a yearly income of more than $600,000 you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in some way?"

This is just one of many incidents that have led to the asking of Questions about just how the State of Queensland is governed and the abuse of power being carried out by people, both within and without the government circles.

The solicitor mulled this over for a moment and replied, "First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?"

It appears as if each day brings another allegation of an integrity crisis and each of these claims appear to involve people at the very top of the parliamentary chain. There also appears to be very serious intervention into the workings of government by a number of industrial union personalities. Government should be “for the people not for a section of the people”.

Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, "Um... No."

Queensland is the only state and the two territories, Canberra and Northern Territory that have just one parliamentary chamber. In the case of Queensland, 2022 is the 100th birthday of the abolition of the Upper House of Parliament.

These incidents are made more serious by the State Premier stating that she “did not know - too busy to investigate the incident or it was a trivial matter which could be swept under the carpet. Private email accounts are used between high ranking parliamentarians so that there was no record of the information discussed. The people of Queensland are paying dearly for incidents that are either unprofessionally carried out or outright bordering on corruption as defined by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission which in itself appears to be shy of handling those matters itself, but redirect them back to the various government departments that they came from to carry out the investigation. Simply a matter of “Caesar judging Caesar”. It even came to the point that the Queensland Integrity Commissioner resigned after having her of cial computer seized and wiped so that data contained was lost. It is just not good enough - it has to stop.

Truthful Jones says

"Second, that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and con ned to a wheelchair?" The stricken Lions volunteer began to stammer out an apology but was put off. “ Third, that my sister's husband died in a traf c accident," the solicitor's voice rising in indignation, "Leaving her penniless with three children?" The humiliated Lions volunteer, completely beaten, said simply, “I had no idea..." On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, "...And I don't give any money to them, so why should I give any to you?!” Morale: Not everybody “gets it about brotherhood”.

Selling or buying a property!

Using a Trust to hold shares in a company With Trove Easton of Easton Lawyers, Maleny

If you’re considering a Trust to

organise the ownership of your company this series of posts discusses some issues to consider. Following on from the previous post where we looked at the Trust, duciary relationships, Bene ciaries and Trustees, now we delve a little deeper. Discretionary trusts Discretionary Trusts arise when the Trustee can choose which Bene ciaries receive the Trust property, and how much of the Trust property each Bene ciary gets. The discretion part lies with the Trustee having the option of splitting up the Trust property however they like. Unit trusts Unit Trusts in comparison are xed, express Trusts unlike discretionary Trusts. Unit Trusts allocate the shares in the Trust property for Bene ciaries in the Trust agreement, rather than at the discretion of the Trustee. Each Bene ciary is allocated a unit in the trust property as stated in the Trust agreement. Company ownership Ownership of a company is allocated through shares. Shares account for a small percentage of a companies’ ownership. So, if

you start a company with a friend and you decide to divide ownership equally, you might decide to start your company by having 1000 shares available to be owned. You and your friend would each receive 500 shares, which you could sell. However, you can arrange it so that a Trustee owns the shares in the company. Can a Trust Own Shares in a Company?

Trustees can own many types of property, including cash and property including company shares for the bene t of Bene ciaries. So, if you operate your own company, you can set up a trust to hold your shares. If you’re the Trustee, you can distribute the pro ts from the Trust to yourself.

Is the War in Ukraine Just? Will it lead to WW111?

Ukraine is country located in eastern Europe, the second largest on the continent after Russia. The capital is Kyiv (Kiev), located on the Dnieper River in north-central Ukraine A fully independent Ukraine emerged only late in the 20th century, after long periods of successive domination by Poland-Lithuania, Russia, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.). Ukraine had experienced a brief period of independence in 1918–20, but portions of western Ukraine were ruled by Poland, Romania, and Czechoslovakia in the period between the two World Wars, and Ukraine thereafter became part of the Soviet Union as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. When the Soviet Union began to unravel in 1990–91, the legislature of the Ukrainian S.S.R. declared sovereignty onJuly 16th, 1990) and then outright independence on (August 24th, 1991.

What is the war about? Russian forces are trying to gain full control of Ukraine's southern coast and link up with territory they've held in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region for years. The Ukraine people in general did not wish to give up their independence Ukraine keeps ghting off a Russian invasion and defending its freedom. Right now Russian armed forces are attacking Ukraine cities by land, air, and sea.

Since the start of the war on February 24th , thousands of civilians have been killed or wounded, including many children. Over 3,000,000 people have had to leave their homes to escape these war atrocities, said Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to

the head of the presidential administration. According to him, 11-12 million internally displaced people.

The number of casualties keeps growing by the minute. More than 2.14 million Ukrainians have arrived in Poland since Russia's invasion began, according to the UN's refugee agency. For a month now, Russian forces have repeatedly attacked Ukrainian medical facilities, striking at hospitals, ambulances, medics, patients and even newborns — with at least 34 assaults independently documented by The Associated Press.

This war is really a continuation of battles when In February and March 2014, Russia invaded and subsequently annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in an undeclared war. The Russia Government sees that in the long term all of independent Ukraine should be brought under the control of the Russia Federation. Since February 2022 much of the international community, including Australia have condemned Russia for its actions in post-revolutionary Ukraine, accusing it of breaking international law and violating Ukrainian sovereignty.

Maroochydore rail to Beerwah announced

A new 37km passenger rail line to connect the Maroochydore CBD to Beerwah station has been announced. Starting from the existing Beerwah station it will pass along the CAMCOS corridor through new stations to be built at Caloundra and Kawana. This new line to join the main line between Beerwah and Brisbane is part of major infrastructure that will be required to link Sunshine Coast residents to Brisbane by rail in time for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics. It is also an important link to Brisbane from the Sunshine Coast for the ever increasing population that travels to work in Brisbane daily. The project is expected to cost about $3.2bn and is a budget commitment for the period 2022-2032. At the same time duplication of the line between Glasshouse and Landsborough will continue.

Who

Remembers

this?

How much or little has this place changed? The Maleny Hotel is one of a number of the last tin and timber and stucco hotels left in the Sunshine Coast region. One could say that it has changes little in appearance over the decades. However, the hotel has been the community’s meeting place for loggers, bullock drivers and farmers and their families to swap stories, debate local politics, conduct business, or simply share a drink, a meal and take time out from the trials and tribulations that belonged to living the life of a Maleny pioneer. As the next generation of residents nd their homes in the Maleny area all of the above attributes still prevail. Whilst the older characters who frequented this hotel’s bar “have mainly left the building” another generation of people ll their seats. Whilst the hotel facilities may have changed the primary uses of the hotel have not changed over the decades - a good feed a good cold beer and the ability to meet great new friends.
