To Vote “Yes or No” that is the question! Will this create a divisive society in Australia?

Finally the date has been announced for the vote for the upcoming referendum in respect to the “Voice to Parliament” referendum.

Remember - voting is compulsory and the results of you voting brings consequences. Ensure you vote from the brain and not from the heart!

The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Anthony Albanese has announced that the date for the historic referendum on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament will be on October 14th, 2023.

First Peoples Voice to Parliament is the first reform called for in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This is a constitutionally enshrined body of First Nations People with a direct line to Federal Parliament, able to influence laws and policies that affect First Nations communities.

This historic vote will seek to make alterations to the Constitution of Australia by making it the law for the Federal Parliament to receive advice from the Indigenous community.

Parliament and the Executive Government of the Commonwealth on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This is in addition to the already position whereby they hold positions within the present various parliaments of Australia. Will this lead to the condition that one section of Australia has more political power than another section.

The Voice calls for the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution of Australia. It also calls for a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making between governments and First Nations and truthtelling about our history.

Mr Albanese suggests that there shall be a body, to be called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice and that an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice may make representations to the

The first plank of a YES vote is the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia.

One thing that is not in doubt is that there would be a huge financial cost to implementing this plan. There would be a vastly increased bureaucracy. Already there is a large number of government and semi-government bodies and corporations allegedly .

To Vote “Yes or No” that is the question!

Will this create a divisive society in Australia?

Does this mean that there will be a vast improvement in the living conditions and future of Indigenous peoples of Australia. There already exists an extensive array of national Indigenous peak bodies representing the different sectoral interests of Indigenous service delivery organisations developing a clear vision of how to advance the overall wellbeing and priorities for indigenous peoples. Many of these bodies also have state government counterparts.

Then there is 17 local Land Councils and Native Title Service Bodies, again with state counterparts.

How would another bureaucratic body give more towards improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous people?

There is no doubt that in most aspects Indigenous people have been let down, but this has not been because of a lack of support from the various levels of governments.

It is said that a vote Yes for The Voice will improve inclusion, education, employment, and economic empowerment for Indigenous People. What changes in processes will do that? Instead of adding more bureaucracy dismantle it all and start afresh. After all only a fool would keep going through the same failed motions and expect for there to be great changes in the situation.

What have those bureaucratic bodies, who have all spent large amounts of money to implement reconciliation in Australia.

Constitutional recognition of Indigenous people is desirable and can be achieved and no information is available to show that the Australian population do not want recognition of Indigenous people, because they do want a better life for Indigenous Australians.. What is contested is what is the best way to achieve that and

Should this referendum vote be positive then the Parliament and Executive Government should seek representations in writing from the Voice early in the development of proposed laws and policies.

Members of the Voice would be selected by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, not appointed by the Executive Government.

there are better ways forward, calling for symbolic recognition of Indigenous Australians in the Constitution, without a Voice.

As at the 30 June 2021 census, there were 983,700 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, representing 3.8% of the total Australian population:

The 45th Parliament currently includes twelve Indigenous parliamentarians—three senators and two members of the House of Representatives which is 4.8%.

Those members are - Ken Wyatt AM, MP who is the Member for Hasluck (WA) and Linda Burney, MP who is the Member for Barton

https://issuu.com/Maleny-Grapevine-Community-News

(NSW), while the Senate includes senators Patrick (Pat) Dodson (ALP), Jacqui Lambie (IND) and Malarndirri McCarthy (ALP) Lidia

Thorpe (Ind) Dorinda Cox (GRN) Jana Stewart (ALP) Kerrynne

Liddle (Lib) Jacinta Nampijinpa Price (LIB) Gordon Reid (ALP) Marion Scrymgour (ALP).

Each state of Australia has members of parliament making a total of 25 state members.

If the Indigenous people are not being properly represented then what are the above members of parliament doing?

If the Indigenous people are not being properly represented then what are the myriad of Aboriginal semi-government bodies and corporations doing?

Before making up your mind on your vote, you would not be honest with yourself if you do not read the Uluru Statement as written by Professor Megan Davis, member of the Referendum Council. In doing so it is also important to read the attachments which amount to approximately 150 pages. This will give more insight into the realistic desires expected from a YES vote in this referendum.

Before any vote it is important to ask yourself the following questions!

Will a YES vote create a unified or a divisive Australia?

Will a YES vote make Indigenous People better off than they presently are?

A vote one way or the other does not make you racist!!!

TMR have just advised me that the 70 km/h speed limit on the 3.6 kilometre section of Maleny-Montville Road, between just south of the Montville Sport and Recreation Grounds through to the existing 60km/h limit on the southern approach to the Montville township will be reduced to 60 km/h.

They say they have considered a range of factors such as road function, roadside environment, road construction standard, prevailing traffic speeds and crash history.

Not Enough Social Housing in Queensland!!!

Taxpayers forked out about $340 million in the last financial year to repair damaged social housing properties in Queensland as shown in the images of a destroyed home were allegedly leaked by a whistleblower

ow many new social housing units would that have built to reduce the housing shortage for socially disadvantaged?

Works are scheduled for the week commencing 28 August 2023, between 7 am and 4 pm and will take approximately one day to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.

I don't particularly think this is a necessary change. A bigger safety concern as I see it is actually the intersection of MalenyMontville Road and Landsborough-Maleny Road. What do you think?

The new Landsborough Station Park ‘n’ Ride is open! It includes- a new bus interchange. To meet community demand, Translink has made some timetable adjustments and provided additional weekday and weekend trips, improving bus-to-rail connections at Landsborough.

Translink service changes include moving route 605 and 615 to the new bus interchange on the eastern side of Landsborough station (new Stop A). All other services will continue to operate from Stop B, on the Cribb Street side.

Or are you voting to protect the fundamental principles of our liberal democracy?

“Handy hints for a good job!”

Re-painting a room is a good quick way to give it a freshen up and even change the look and atmosphere without it costing the earth. It will even add value to your home, especially if you are selling. A good paint job is not difficult or messy to get if you follow a few basic rules and don’t try to cut corners.

Preparation is the key to a good paint job, so make sure the walls are clean, flaky paint is removed and trim is sanded before you even get out the paintbrushes and rollers.

It is important to prepare the walls and protect surfaces to minimise mess and get a perfect finish.

Handy Hints

The best way to clean walls ready for painting is to use sugar soap. Brush walls to remove surface dirt.

Dissolve half a cup of sugar soap in 5L of water and apply with a sponge or cloth, then rinse off using a clean damp sponge.

Decorative detailing, such as trim and mouldings, needs to be carefully sanded to get the best result.

The most effective way is to use a sanding sponge. Sponges conform to the shape of the timber work and can get into crevices that sandpaper can’t. They also apply even pressure and make it easy to cut down rough spots.

Before applying new paint, flaky paint needs to be removed or the new coat won’t adhere and will eventually flake off as well.

Protect floors with cardboard or plastic drop sheets which are inexpensive, or both.

Hold the brush handle between your thumb and forefinger, resting your fingertips on the top. Dip half the bristles in the paint, then wipe on the side

of the tin to remove the excess. Apply in short strokes.

Do the ceiling first, as rollers can create splatter that could ruin a freshly painted wall.

Finish the room by painting the walls, cutting in with a brush and covering the rest with a roller.

The best way to get an even finish is by keeping a wet edge as you work across the wall.

Cut in with a brush, then start painting at the top corner using a roller.

Work in 1sqm sections, painting a large M, then rolling across the area, finishing in one direction.

Immediately start painting the next section of wall, using light pressure to overlap the strokes with the wet edge. Don’t paint if it’s very hot, cold or humid, as it can affect the finish.

Disposable gloves not only keep your hands clean when painting, but they can also be used to prevent your brush from drying out when taking breaks. It minimises clean-up, too. Use a twist tie around the handle to keep air out.

Would you fly on a “pilotless” aeroplane? Well, it is not futuristic as you might think as already they are being used in the United States on an everyday basis.

The company, Xwing from Dallas has developed an autonomous flight system for its fleet of Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft which they use as part of their cargo based business throughout North America.

Xwing, the company made history in February 2021 when it conducted the world’s first fully autonomous gate-to-gate cargo flight. The flight was flown by a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft, adapted with Xwing’s “Superpilot” autonomous flight system. It taxied itself from the gate to the runway, took off, landed, and taxied back to its gate with no human intervention, although there was a pilot on board as a backup. A remote crew of pilots also monitored the aircraft from the ground.

Autonomous flight has rapidly transformed from a futuristic concept to a present-day reality, revolutionising the commercial aviation industry. Today, autonomous flight systems are finding application in various aspects of air travel, enhancing

efficiency, safety, and eventually passenger experience. Today, a notable example of the use of autonomous flight systems is in cargo planes. These systems can optimise routes, reduce fuel consumption, and minimise human error, resulting in cost savings for cargo operators.

Companies like Amazon and DHL have been actively testing and implementing autonomous drone delivery services in certain regions, demonstrating the potential to expedite last-mile logistics.

Safety remains a top priority in the integration of autonomous flight. Rigorous testing, redundancy in systems, and fail-safe mechanisms are crucial to ensure the reliability of these technologies.

Regulatory agencies around the world, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, are working closely with industry stakeholders such as XWing to establish standards and guidelines for the safe implementation of autonomous flight systems. By making standard aircraft

capable of flying without pilots, the aim is to make commuting by air into a cheaper and more efficient way to travel.

In a few years you'll start seeing taxi networks of electric aircrafts regionally or on long hauls and it's going to be quite a different air transport landscape.

"Most accidents in aviation, historically, have been due to pilot errors - the vast majority of them,” says XWings CEO Mr. Piette.

Closer. to home, there are already deals in place that would see autonomous aerial taxis carry passengers through the skies of South East Queensland during the 2032 Olympic Games.

The Brazilian plane maker Embraer says a new factory built near Sao Paulo is to produce electric flying taxis which it hopes will take to the skies from 2026. The aircraft, to be made will resemble a small helicopter with enough space for up to six customers.

These aircraft are vertical takeoff and landing vehicles and a number of South East Queensland councils have declared that they would provide suitable landing and takeoff facilities within their areas.

Wisk Aircraft already has a prototype that has flown almost 1600 test flights already.

The vehicle to be used as a passenger air taxi is expected to be all electric with a range of approximately 144 kilometres and can be charged in about 15 minutes. It will carry at least 4 passengers.

It has been proved that it is easier to develop a safe electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle than a driverless car to safely drive around town.

Don’t take bushfire warnings too lightly

Parts of Australia put on high alert for fires this coming Spring. Many parts of Queensland have been nominated as high-risk areas. Recently there has been considerable drying out of fuel above ground and under the soil so fire will burn a lot hotter than in many other times.

Fires are already starting to pop up — particularly in the southern half of the Queensland — mainly due to below-average rainfall and a westerly wind that lowers humidity: “Westerly winds herald more fire weather.”

The anticipated destructive bushfire season is due to the expected arrival of El Nino, which promises to deliver below average rainfall and dry temperatures, coupled with mass amounts of dry vegetation that grew exponentially during the three years of the rainy La Nina weather pattern.

If you’re thinking about using fire to clean up around your property, you’ve probably left the run too late as the weather pattern has already changed leading into a hot summer.

For the safety of your family it is important that you understand your risk, know where you will get your information, and talk to your family about what you will do in the time of a bushfire.

Hope for the best and plan for the worst.

An Old Codger’s Thoughts & Opinions

The integrity of the Queensland Government should stand as a cornerstone of its functioning, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across all levels of governance. It should be upholding high standards of integrity that is essential to foster public trust, maintain the rule of law, and effectively serve the interests of the citizens.

Instead, what have we got? A mishmash of information churned out by an army of journalists employed within the confined and privileged domain of the Queensland Premier’s office. This information often is communicated to the people of Queensland on the basis of what is politically acceptable rather than what actually is the truth.

Transparency should be a key pillar of government integrity in Queensland. Real open access to accurate and reliable information, public records, and decisionmaking processes helps citizens understand the rationale behind governmental actions and expenditures. Real transparency not only deters corruption but also empowers the public to engage more actively in civic affairs.

However look at some of the many problems presently being experienced by Queenslanders, problems such as the ever increasing juvenile crime problems, the continuing problem of infrastructure projects massively overshooting completion dates and budget figures. Queensland’s Health system is failing badly, but the government does not appear to be over concerned and press on keeping on the same path.

In spite of all the present problems that Queensland faces there is no stopping major un-welcomed steps towards the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Even to the lack of integrity caused when the Premier made the decision to bring planning directly under her control. This also applies to the major amounts of money being spent on new major sporting facilities. All at a time when a large percentage of the population is having problems in just being able to find and keep themselves in a home.

The integrity of the Queensland Government should form the bedrock of its functionality and credibility. But, is this the real situation and are the people of Queensland getting the best value from the money they pay as taxation meant to supply their civic needs.

Truthful says that his sixteen year-old grandson came home with a brand new Ford F150. His father and I looked at the truck and asked, “Where did you get that truck?!”

“I bought it today,” the grand- on says.

“With what money?” Truthful asks.

Truthful knows what a new F150 cost.

“Well,” the grand-son says, “this one cost me just fifteen dollars.”

The boy’s father looks at him like he’s crazy. “Who would sell a truck like that for fifteen dollars?” he says.

“It was the lady up the street,” says the boy. “I don’t know her name – they just moved in. She saw me ride past on my bike and asked me if I wanted to buy her F150 for fifteen dollars.

“Oh my Goodness!” says the father. “Maybe she’s mentally ill or has Alzheimer’s something. Truthful, you better go see what’s going on.”

So Truthful walks up the street to the house where the lady lives and finds her out in the yard calmly planting petunias.

He introduces himself as the grand-father of the boy to whom she had sold a new Ford F150 truck for fifteen dollars and asks to know why she did it.

“Well,” she says, “two days ago my husband left on a business trip. Yesterday I got a phone call from his boss and found out that he really ran off to Hawaii with his secretary and doesn’t intend to come back.”

“Oh, my goodness, I’m so sorry,” Truthful says. “But what does that have to do with my grandson and your truck?”

“Well, this morning he called and told me he was stranded because he got robbed of his wallet with all his credit cards and cash. He told me to sell his new F150 and send him the money. So I did.”

Directors you need ID!

With Trove Easton of Easton Lawyers, Maleny

What is a director ID?

A director identification number (director ID) is a unique 15-digit number given to a director (or someone who will become a director), who has verified their identity with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). It’s free to apply and while directors need to apply for their own director ID, they'll keep it forever even if they: change companies; or stop being a director; or change their name; or move interstate or overseas.

Timing

The Corporations Law requires if you were appointed as a director on or before 31 October 2021 you must have a director ID

After the 5th April 2022 you MUST have a director ID before you are appointed.

Timing under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) is different.

If you were appointed as a director under the CATSI you must apply for a director ID by 30 November 2023

From 1 November 2022 you MUST have applied for a director ID before you are appointed.

Who needs a director ID?

You need a director ID if you're a director of a: company

aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation registered Australian body, for example, an incorporated association that is registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and trades outside the state or territory in which it is incorporated foreign company registered with ASIC and carrying on business in Australia (regardless of where you live).

If your organisation has an Australian business number (ABN) find out if it is registered with ASIC. company, which will have an Australian company number (ACN) registered Australian body, which will have an Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN) registered foreign company, which will have an ARBN

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations have an Indigenous Corporation

Number (ICN) and may also have an ABN.

Conclusion

ASIC is responsible for administration of the director ID, under the Corporations Act and it is a criminal offence not to apply on time.

If you need help and support, you can contact your solicitor, or tax agent, to help decide if you need to apply for the director ID.

At Easton Lawyers our Senior Associate, Michelle Kleinig would be happy to assist you, understand your obligations under the Corporations Act, please don’t hesitate to contact us on (07)5494 3511

We are very proud to support the Maleny CWA with their Cent Auction on September 9th between 1p.m. and 4p.m., there will be some great items and one third of the proceeds will go to the Maleny Hydrotherapy and one third to Maleny Historical Society.

Australian-made On-grid and off-grid energy storage systems

RedEarth Energy - “The benefits of solar power”

RedEarth Energy Storage is proud to announce that its Troppo-4841 battery module is the first Australian-made battery approved by Australia’s Clean Energy Council (CEC), making it the most advanced, high energy density, compliant Australian battery on the CEC list.

The versatile 4.1kWh Troppo battery module can be used on grid or off grid, to substitute old lead acid battery banks, as part of a RedEarth integrated ‘Personal Power Plant’ or with other reputable inverter systems. The Troppo will be made available as part of its integrated systems, or supplied to the industry as a standalone product.

The Troppo-4841 includes a display that shows the state of charge as well as voltage and current, making it the easiest battery for installers to install, and easy for customers to see at a glance how much electricity they have in their batteries.

The most popular solar batteries are now lithium-ion based batteries. You should expect your lithium home batteries to last between 10 and 15 years under normal conditions.

in solar

Running a battery flat or over-charging it can also cause damage to a battery, leading to a reduced lifetime. RedEarth uses intelligent batteries, with software to protect the battery cells from these situation. RedEarth systems are designed so that individual batteries can be replaced as required without changing the whole system.

Your solar battery will perform at its best when installed in a cool, dry place. Installing a solar storage system can increase the value of your home, whether you choose to stay and reap the rewards yourself, or sell, and make the most from your additional equity. So, whether you are a homeowner or landlord, consider solar an investment, not an expense, and choose a system that can adapt to changing energy needs.

When you combine smart energy consumption with the long-term efficiency of a solar battery, you’re on the right path to saving money. But like any big investment, it’s important to know how to get the best out of your system so you can maximise the benefits available to you.

Travelling Jackaroo “Getting to the Top”

“Back on the road” ….. continuing on with my mission!

More donations for the R.F.D.S

I have just had a bit of time enjoying a bit of peace and quiet in the rolling green hills of Maleny before heading back out to the Isa to continue heading up towards Darwin then down to Adelaide in the tractor.

Whilst at home I took some time to have a watch of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia TV show. It’s a pretty good show, I’ve also watched a lot of the original one from the 1980. Whilst I’m humble It makes me proud to know that before the age of 21 I’ve raised over $100,000 for the real RFDS.

With no tertiary hospitals outside of Perth the people of West Australia rely on the R. F.D.S to be available in to get all the patients in the state to definitive care quicker.

“Slim has been “Awarded”

Mack Trucks have got the power you need to take on tough jobs. Old Slim the tractor has now taken me on a journey around Australia and has been described as being, “Built like a Mack Truck”.

As such he has now been adorned with a prized silver Mack Truck Bulldog. Now that is a great privilege.

Be a real “Mate”

Make sure that you look after your mates - Treat them all well!.

There are no places for bullies or abusers in this life.

https://issuu.com/Maleny-Grapevine-Community-News

Congratulations Danyelle Haigh 'Giddy Up' on your new TV program “Outback Farm” which can be found on SEVEN Mate on Tuesdays at 8.30p.m.

One of the best investments on my camp is my solar. It powers my fridge and freezer 24/7 and hardly ever needs to be mucked with. Only real maintenance is every few weeks climbing up to clean the dust off the panels and regularly checking the volts on the controller screen.

What to do after this trip?

I have been thinking about what my next adventure will be after this cause is finished.

Can anyone recommend a Truck driving school to do a HC course (semi licence) in Darwin or anywhere in the NT?

There’s a high chance that I’m gonna need it to do my next adventure once this trip is finished. I just wanting to get my HC done soon so in another 12 months I can potentially go for my road train licence.

I’ll let you know soon what I am thinking.

You

Maleny Branch of E.S. & A. Bank 2023

The first bank in Maleny was the ES & A (English, Scottish and Australian) Bank which started up as an agency of the Nambour Branch in 1906. It was located in part of the Maleny Co-operative Store, at 15 Maple St, where Boxsells is today. Today it's on the site of Medicine on Maple.

The bank shifted into a new building, as shown in this photo in 1923. The new building was situated next door to the Co-operative Store.

The Maleny Branch was opened after the Manager of Nambour Branch, Mr. Mr Arthur Bennett recommended branches be opened in Maleny aand Eumundi.

This Photo is dated 1923 Second Bank. It was contributed by Maleny Historical Memories Archive. See more story inside!.
