Greater Brisbane again in lockdown

The Greater Brisbane area which includes the Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton and Brisbane council areas.

This comes after Brisbane recorded 10 new cases of coronavirus, four of which are community transmission. One of the cases is a hospital nurse who worked in the COVID-19 ward. Her sister has also tested positive. People in Greater Brisbane will only be able to leave their homes for essential reasons like grocery shopping, exercise, work and medical care.

Only two visitors are allowed at homes — outside of Greater Brisbane, gatherings are limited to 30. Queensland Chief Health Of cer Jeannette Young said schools and childcare centres would remain open for children of essential workers. A Queensland Health spokesperson says everyone in Queensland must carry a mask when they leave their home and wear it in indoor spaces that aren't your home. There are exceptions for those with medical exemptions and children under 12.

Maleny Accident Repair Centre Services

In Motor Vehicle Repairs, Experience Counts

A reminder for all motorists out there from the RACQ

Panel Beating

Our professional Panel Beaters operate to industry best practice standards and have exceptional attention to detail.

This message comes from both the ABC and the RACQ who both say that driving around with a face mask hanging off the rearview mirror could incur a $311 on-the-spot ne, if police determine it blocks the driver's view of the road.

Precision is optimised through our stateof-the-art working facilities and our safe and ergonomic working environment. At Maleny ARC, nothing is left to chance.

“Greater Brisbane drivers are naturally in the habit of having their mask handy at all times, but having a mask dangling from the rear view mirror isn’t safe,” RACQ spokesperson Lauren Ritchie told us during the January lockdown.

No detail is overlooked, and we constantly look for ways to improve our processes to streamline the repair cycle time. Spray Painting

“Drivers need to have a clear view of the road from all angles so they can easily spot other cars, pedestrians and cyclists.

The MARC team of dedicated Spray Painters has an uncompromising focus on quality paint nishes. Our specialised spray equipment and state-of-the-art spray booth allows our tradespeople to deliver high quality factory nishes every time.

“Masks can create a blind spot, increasing the risk of a crash, especially if you’re travelling on highways or busy roads.

Our Paint Technicians are highly trained in colour matching to ensure the nished result is a perfect match to the factory nish.

“You shouldn’t have anything hanging on their mirror which could block your view – that includes your mask. So pack it away where it won’t be a distraction – no matter how long your drive is.”

We use and recommend only AkzoNobel Re nish products in the re nishing of your vehicle. In this group is Sikkens which is one of the world’s leading re nish coatings brands.

Artwork by Venssa PerskeI If you come into the of ce here you can see one of the latest works from Vanessa Perske.

We recognise the importance of environmental sustainability when we selected our premier re nish system it was with environmental sustainability in mind. All for the good of your repair.

Her art is outstanding and we are so lucky to have this beautiful painting on our wall. Vanessa lives in Montville. We love looking after our locals here.

Covid Lockdown April 2021 As we steadily move towards Easter 2021 it is unfortunate that once again the COVID virus is about to disrupt may plans. Sunshine Coast residents are urged to follow the Chief Health Of cer’s directive to carry a face mask at all times when you leave home and to wear a face mask in indoor spaces, in accordance with Queensland Health advice.

What is it about toilet paper under COVID lockdown? With Greater Brisbane going into COVID lockdown as Easter draws near supermarkets are reporting that toilet paper is disappearing off shelves faster that it can be replaced. There is not a shortage of toilet paper except in people’s minds Queenslanders are urged not to panic buy staple products as stores have plenty of supply.

It is dif cult to understand the need for people to panic but items such as loo paper when the problem is a virus or respiratory infection.

There is no room for complacency with any of this and it is important that everyone to again do their part to help stop the spread of COVID-19. That included following good hygiene practises such as washing of hands regularly and practise safe distancing.

There is no need to panic buy. Some stores have now introduced a pack limit in an effort to ensure everyone gets their needs.

Truthful Jones says

An Old Codger’s Thoughts & Opinions

And he swears that it 100% true. - No Bulls##t”

Becoming a parent is a very important point in a persons life, it should be much more than a quick night of sexual pleasure. Unfortunately, too many young adults do not think about the responsibilities of becoming a parent and as a result youth crime and poor behaviour is now “out of control”. Events early in a person's life may be related to subsequent behaviour in later life, thus setting certain rules of life early is important. Children raised in a stable family situation is the best start to life a child can get. Children learn by example. A number of studies show that the most in uential role models in a child’s life are their parents. It is important that parents act as a model for how they want their children to behave. It is not only the female of the family that is responsible for the child’s upbringing. Especially in those early years children need parents in supporting roles. Children rejected or ignored by parents are most likely to become delinquent, a troublesome child or adolescent is more likely to be rejected by parents and this creates in the escalating cycle that leads to youth criminal activity. Often this behaviour is a sign that the youth is seeking some approval. Whilst parenting means meeting their children's basic needs for food, clothing, housing, medical care, and formal education, it also means educating a child how to act with respect and with responsibility in our society. Every day we hear of the continual increasing amount of youth crime. Continual detention should be a last stop measure. There needs to be some interaction with neglectful parents long before the child starts to commit crimes. Unfortunately, statistics show that single parent families and in particular mother-only families, produce more delinquent children than two-parent families. Perhaps this gives some insight as to where it is possible to start the process of initiating better parenting skills - by actively assisting parents to overcome their relationship problems rst.

The wife says nothing but slowly increases speed to 70kmh. He then says, “I don’t want you to try to talk me out of it, because I’ve been having an affair with your best friend, and she’s a better lover than you are.” Again the wife stays quiet but speeds up to 80kmh as her anger increases. “I want the house!” said the husband. Again the wife speeds up to 90kmh. The husband then says, “I also want the car!” The wife says nothing but she just drives faster and faster. By now she’s up to 100kmh. “All right,” the husband says, “I want the bank accounts, and all the credit cards". The wife nally gets to 110kmh. "Is there anything else you want to admit too?" asks the wife. "Yes" says the husband, "that was all a lie.... but at least now we're doing the speed limit!”. Truthful says that nothing more was said for the rest of the trip to Brisbane. He continued that he would not have wanted to be in the husbands position when he got home alone with the wife!

Early Settlers get their pigs to market! In the early 1900’s hand in hand with dairying, and whilst butter was the important product farmers kept pigs as a secondary income. The success and pro tability of the pork industry depended on the ability to easily grow corn. Luckily, it was found that corn grew very well throughout the area.

Once a month a “pig drive” was organised from Kenilworth to the Landsborough Rail yards.

Roads in that time were dirt tracks of two wheel ruts. There were no bridges across creeks.

The “pig drive” consisted of a couple of men on horseback driving the pigs “on the hoof”.

At each creek crossing it was necessary to drive all the pigs into the water and get them across. This would be a dif cult task as the pigs would not be very interested in climbing down river banks and back up the other side.

Along the way they would pick up pigs from the various dairy farms. Pigs would be ear tattooed with the farmers mark so that they would be able to be identi ed at the end of the journey.

For the pigs to be pro table they had to be transported to market.

On reaching Landsborough the job was still not over. The pigs were yarded and then sorted into groups that were owned by each farmer.

The Blackall Range area earnt a reputation for producing some of the best porker and bacon pigs in the state and this in part was due to the quality of the corn that was grown in the area. To be paid, the farmers had to transport the pigs to the Queensland Bacon Co-operative Association in Brisbane where they would be slaughtered and turned into bacon. They were taken from Landsborough to Brisbane by rail no worries, but getting them to Landsborough was another matter. At this time in history there were no vehicles for transporting the pigs to market.

They would then have to be weighed as they were purchased by the Bacon Co-operative on the basis of landed weight. In 1935 farmers were being paid approximately 1.5 pence per pound for their pigs.

One of the drovers would lead the pigs along the track. He would have a bag slung over his saddle. The bag had a small hole in one corner so that corn would dribble out of the bag as he rode along.

The Factory Floor from Pig to Bacon Founded in 1913 the Queensland Co-Operative Bacon Association factory at Murrarrie, Brisbane enjoyed the reputation of being the largest co-operative bacon factory in Australia at the time. It received 27,024 pigs in the rst year for processing from areas such at the Sunshine Coast

The pigs would happily follow along eating the corn as they walked along. The corn in the bag would be topped up at each farm. Herds of hundreds of pigs were common place.

Early Settlers get their pigs to market! (Continued from previous Page) district.Once the pigs arrived at the factory in Brisbane they then had to be processes in a very short time. The general progression of production from pig to bacon starting by unloading the pigs from the rail wagons into the pig pens. The pigs were herded from the railway siding in the pig pens at the the factory. The processing began at the killing oor where the pigs were quickly killed and bled. The carcass were then put into the scalding vat where the hair

was removed by the scudding machine The slaughter men removed the intestines and the carcass was inspected by Government men intestines to the sausage section. The carcass was hung and sent to the chiller rooms for overnight storage. The carcass was then cut up into the various saleable parts. Some of the meat was put into the curing vats for a period of six weeks. Following this the cured meat was washed and dried. The meat was then hung in the smokehouse overnight - smoke from smouldering sawdust added the smoke avour. (The pork was then bagged and sent to the railway truck which would come into the factory and sent to the retail shops. Some meat went to other departments in the factory where many different types of pork products such as hams, bacon, lard, and

fertiliser were produced. The association packed a variety of delicious canned goods in the shape of camp pie, pork sausage, pork brawn, lunch tongues, ham pate, veal and bacon pate, devilled bam, veal and bacon, and ham and tongue, which are sold at all stores throughout the State. Everything from the pig was used in other products such as fertiliser. It is said that everything from the pig is used - everything that is except the pig's squeal. So whenever you enjoy a feed of pork think about the work that goes into preparing it for the kitchen. Also when you hear somebody say, “I wish that we could have the old days back - it was so much easier then” think about the hard work that our pioneer families had to endure.

The Hinterlandgrapevine Online News Travelling Jackaroo “Finally on his way”

O

n a wet and slightly windy day, Sam the Travelling Jackaroo and his faithful Chamberlain 9G, which is named “Slim the Chamberlain” left Maleny in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on a lap around Australia raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Dolly’s Dream and Lights on the Hill Memorial.

I’m not the only Chamberlain out and about around Dalby as I found a “mate for Slim”.

Sam was delighted to see how many locals came out to wave him farewell in Maple Street on Sunday morning, some with handmade orange placards held high! “It was amazing having that many people come out,” he said. “It was a wonderful feeling.” Eyes shone with tears as the magnitude of his adventure was not lost by onlookers. Now a few days on the road and a couple of days work behind him sam says; “Cruising along at 37kph with the trailer, just feels incredible. Lots going on in amongst listening to my 327nd Slim Dusty song on the USB and tuning in on the UHF 40.

Here's to a cheeky-faced young Australian with a big heart and n even bigger dream. Bon voyage from Maleny, and safe travels Sam. You can follow Sam’s adventures via his Facebook Page at “The Travelling Jackaroo” https://www.facebook.com/ thetravellingjackaroo
