“Sunshine Coast Council concerned about Dangerous dogs!”

Dogs can teach kids responsibility, compassion and patience — not to mention being the best playmates anyone could ask for. Before you adopt any pup, however, it's always smart to research the most suitable dog breed for your home and lifestyle. How you choose your new furever friend can depend on your living arrangements, schedule, activity levels and budget. Pets, especially dogs and, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Older dogs are generally more patient and laidback than younger ones.

These audits, whilst conducted throughout the year are now being conducted in force. There was a time when the perfect “housewife” would have been most happy to have a Handi Pumpless ‘shellite’ spirit iron to help keep those clothes looking good. Today, we want things to get more and more simple and easy to use so no longer will the Handi Pumpless ‘shellite’ spirit iron “cut the mustard”.

In Queensland the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2021 was passed in September 2021. Voluntary assisted dying will be available to eligible Queenslanders from 1 January 2023.

The new laws will enable people under certain stringent situations and are suffering and dying to seek assistance from quali ed medical professionals to assist medically assist them to end their lives under more humane conditions. Authorised voluntary assisted dying practitioners will enable safe, high-quality, compassionate access to voluntary assisted dying for Queenslanders Maleny Uniting Church Minister, Reverend Leina Hoffman said that there would be an information afternoon at the Maleny Uniting Church, 1284 Landsborough Road, Maleny on Saturday November 19th between 3p.m. and 5p.m. Tickets will be $5.00 each to assist in proving afternoon tea. They can be purchased through “trybooking.com”. Rev. Hoffman said that it is hoped the afternoon will stimulate conversations and improve awareness about the subject. Timely Warning for Pets Staff for Maleny Veterinary Services in Coral Street, Maleny have issued a timely warning for those with pets. With the relatively mild winter and the recent wet weather, followed then by warm weather; this is the ideal time for ticks to be out in force. Whilst the Queensland’s tick season is said to run from August through to March, ticks can be a problem at any time of the year. At the present time ticks are out in droves due to hotter and wetter weather. Ticks can cause severe illness and, unfortunately, often death. The paralysis tick paralyses pets swallow re ex and their ability to not let their saliva vomit and food go down their windpipe. Owners should check their pets every day for ticks and ensure they’re using tick preventatives like tick collars, spot on treatments or a monthly tick chew. Simply be sure that your pets are up to date with their tick prevention.

Queenslanders across our state have loved and admired Queen Elizabeth II and it is only tting we honour her service.

The LNP have launched a petition to rename Cross River Rail, Queensland’s rst underground rail line, to the Elizabeth Line. This would be a tting tribute to Her Majesty. To mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in May this year, Queen Elizabeth II opened a new underground line in London called The Elizabeth Line. It had previously been called the “Crossrail” project. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Queensland to forever honour her

dedication to duty and service. Renaming this Brisbane project would see her name continue to service our state. Sign the petition at the link below: https://queensland.typeform.com/to/Fl3YY0at? typeform-source=l.facebook.com

When is a hospital not a hospital The Health Minister’s claim that it does not matter what a health facility is called is appalling. She was talking about community day clinics and wanting to call them hospitals. A hospital has overnight beds, an emergency department, an intensive care unit, an operating theatre and operate 24 hours a day.

Recent Cyber attack on OPTUS should be concerning to us all!

The very recent cyber attack that has compromised up to nine million Optus users’ data is extremely concerning not only to them, but should for us all.

In particular, I strongly advise Optus customers (and anyone concerned about online safety) to follow the advice provided by IDCARE, speci cally relating to the Optus cyber attack. IDCARE is a local cyber security success story that the Coalition Government launched in 2014, and provided more than $6 million to the not-for-pro t for cybercrime and victim support services. I have visited IDCARE numerous times to see for myself the fantastic work they do and I know how dedicated they are to protecting Australians online.

This may be the largest data breach in Australian history. While Optus is in the process of contacting those customers whose data has been breached, I am including here further information and links as to how you can better protect yourself online.

IDCARE connects the community to their expert Identity and Cyber Security Case Managers who will listen and provide the best advice on how to respond to data breaches scams, identity theft and cyber security concerns. You can phone them on 1800 595 160. I have hard copies of the ACCC’s “Little Black Book of Scams” in my of ce for anyone interested in a copy.

Optus must also be completely transparent with their customers about the extent and nature of the compromise.

“Diesel Price to continue to rise” Diesel drivers are experiencing exceptionally high prices across the globe. Consumer groups are warning that prices are likely to creep higher, eventually rising to about $3 per litre. A RACQ's spokesperson said that it's being driven by a range of international factors— especially the war in Ukraine. Russia is one of the world's largest producers of diesel and supplies that diesel into the European market. The sanctions against Russia has caused European countries to look further a eld for diesel supplies. Australia Industry and the mining industry relies on road freight along with a large percentage of Aussies vehicles being diesel consumers. This continues to push the price of diesel higher.

An Old Codger’s Thoughts & Opinions

Truthful Jones says

And he swears that it 100% true. - No Bulls##t” Truthful tells that his brother-inA Cashless Debit Card issued for certain welfare payments looks and law was feeling works like a normal bank debit card. You can't use it to buy alcohol, gamble, or get cash out. Who it affects. Getting a Cashless Debit Card a bit crook so he went to his depends on your age, where you live and what payment you get from doctor. Centrelink. It was hoped that the cashless debit card would be a form of compulsory income management, which assisted a person to be able to more effectually handle their money.

The card was not being introduced for payments to seniors and other pension payments such as invalid pensions. Unfortunately, the Cashless Debit Card is something people feel strongly about and a concerted effort has been made by those who do not accept the card as a possible solution to numerous social problems have severely damaged the image of the card for their own personal bene t. It was hoped that the card would be a solution to encouraging socially responsible behaviour by limiting the amount of cash that can be spent on drugs and alcohol. The Cashless Debit Card will work at merchants that accept Visa or eftpos, including overseas. Card holders have access to a portion of their payment that they can withdraw as cash to use in circumstances where only cash is accepted, for example at school events, fetes and farmers markets. Cashless Debit Card users are protected by all standard consumer protection laws. Also the Cashless Debit Card is a fee-free account for holders. Following trials the Cashless Debit Card is to be scraped because of a dislike of the card by some welfare recipients. It is suspected that some of those against the card are against it because it cannot be used in liquor shops, for purchasing tobacco products, gambling, and drug dealers don’t accept them. After all the welfare payment was not intended to replace a wage for those who are really able to earn a wage. The theory of restricting the cards being spent on the above mentioned products it was hoped that the money would be spent on basic products for maintaining life. More importantly, it was hoped that any children in the family would be properly cared for. Another $50 million is being put in to help those who are addicted to drugs and gambling so that they do not waste their money. Oh yer!!! Will that be successful?

After examining him, the doctor says, “You have some problems with your heart, but if you take these tablets, I think it will be okay.” So the doctor gives the Truthful’s brother-in-law the tablets, and the brother-in-law asks, “Do I have to take them every day?” “No,” replies the doctor, “take one on a Monday, skip the Tuesday, take one on Wednesday, skip the Thursday and go on like that.“ Two weeks later, the doctor walks down the street and sees the patient’s wife.” Hello Mrs Murphy,” he says, “how’s your husband?” “Oh, he died of a heart attack,” says Mrs Murphy. “I’m very sorry to hear that,” says the doctor, “I thought if he took those tablets, he would be all right.” “Oh, the tablets were ne,” says Mrs Murphy, “It was all the bloody skipping that killed him!”

Remember When? Going to the local “Flicks” on a Saturday arvo matinee.

Whilst some people believe that the scrapping of the card will be a step backward for a large number of welfare payments, some welfare recipients believe that the cards assist with budgeting. How can we ensure that welfare money is spent as intended?

What do we really mean when we say our toilet paper helps build toilets? We trust that our partner organisations know how to best improve global access to proper sanitation – that means our donation could go to building toilets. To put it into perspective, a child under ve dies every two minutes from diarrhoea diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. Pro ts from the sale of this toilet paper is used to building toilets, but could also mean it supports larger clean water projects. This is a win - win situation!

n September 23rd and 24th, Nambour Crushers Rugby League Club will play host to one of the most iconic Australian shows - The Fred Brophy Boxing Tent. Fred Brophy OAM is an Australian tent boxing promoter who regularly tours around Queensland with the eponymous Fred Brophy's Boxing Troupe. Brophy is a fourth-generation showman. His father was a sideshow operator while his mother was a trapeze artist. Throughout Australia’s history there has been a strong tradition of boxing tents touring the country. Fred Brophy is the last of the boxing tent showman in the world. Brophy grew up travelling from town to town, helping his family and boxers put up the tent where he’d box other children for pennies before the adult bouts. Today, the iconic showman is a staple for entertainment at events such as the Birdsville Races and the Mount Isa Rodeo. Boxing troupes like Sharman’s and Brophy’s were once commonly seen travelling around the outback of Australia. This was especially so before the introduction of television in rural Australia. He originally followed on from his father and uncle who both had boxing tents and he often was under the shadow of “The Jimmy Sharman Boxing Tent” crew until that crew hung up their gloves in 1971 after that year’s Melbourne Show. banging of the drum” outside the various boxing tents as they travelled around rural shows. In fact there was a song, "Rally Around the Drum boys" written by Uncle Archie Roach which helped to make his songs popular. At the 2017 Birdsville Cup entertainment events, Senator Pauline Hanson, leader of One Nation lled in as the of cial “ring girl”. Fred Brophy then said; “You are a fair dinkum Australian”. Brophy, the fair dinkum Aussie, between 2007 and until 2021 owned the Kilkivan and Cracow Hotels in Central Queensland. When interviewed on the ABC about country traditions a number of years ago Fred Brophy said, “We're not there to hurt anyone - we're there to put a good show on - and you certainly get plenty of laughs out of it.” When asked in the same interview about retirement he continued to say “When I go I think it's going to be part of Australia that's going to be missed because it'll go - and there is no one to replace this part of our history and that'll be unfortunate.” If you get a chance before this tradition has gone you really need to see it. The signs of summer will soon be around us. The days have lengthen and the earth begins is warmer…

Did you know that we also have a large range of animal food? Mi-Feed is a boutique stock feed mill on the Sunshine Coast at Yandina. In operation since 1979 we were the rst to incorporate the micronisation process into the manufacture of stock feed. There is a Mi Feed product for your animals - be it chooks, beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, pigs or goats and don't want to handle a different feed for all of them. Mi-Feed has developed a number of lines that have a multi species purpose. Singular micronised grains such as barley or our ever popular Hobby Farm Mix. Because the micronisation process

gelatinises the starch before it is consumed, the harmful affects of high grain feeding, such as founder, acidosis and overheating are dramatically reduced thus providing a “cool” source of energy to the animal. Check out the Mi Feed range, including Pasture Boost Pallets at Maleny Rural Traders

The Hinterlandgrapevine Online News Travelling Jackaroo “Getting to the Top” A bit of “looking back and looking forward” Perth Show brings more

It is just over 2 years today since I took slim for his rst registered test drive. That was 11,000 kilometres ago and shortly before putting the boat and rack on him. Back then I thought 80-100kms a day was a big day, fast forward to the present and I am doing a 357km day with an average of 250kms. Experience and times makes a difference I suppose.

One thing that I have learnt is 20 mins is too much for the poor bloody snags in the air fryer, they’re blacker than my bloody vinyl records, hell they’re blacker than the damn air fryer.

What does the future hold? I always sleep with a notepad and pen, the reason being like now for example when I randomly get an idea and wake up at aming 2am I can scribble it down only to undoubtedly regret it in the morning I have been been thinking a lot about what I want to do after this trip is nished in the last year and a half I’ve been on the road. I’ve got several ideas going at the moment. I am now at the halfway mark around this great country. My thoughts mostly revolve around travelling and bringing entertainment/services to people in remote areas and towns in the outback that wouldn’t normally get those services. I will still be doing charity work, I am sure. Stay tuned

donations Huge Thank-you to the Perth Royal Show for allowing me to fundraise at their epic 7 day event . In total the show raised: $1,683.10 for Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia $1,662.85 for Drought Angels $729.95 for Dolly's Dream Totalling $4,075.90 raised from full tins at the show Thank you to all who made a donation and to The Harrington Circus Show, The Carvery and Maxine Milo for helping not only with the fundraising but also for looking out for me. A Royal Flying Doctor helicopter was at the Perth Show and did some demonstrations in the main show ring. It was a great demonstration of their abilities. It was great to catch-up with so many great showmen from The Showmen’s Guild that I met last year over east including the always welcoming Miller family along with various others. I hope to catch up with them all again somewhere down the track.
