Mask and Vaccination Mandates now gone so Maleny Show is all “A Go” The state government’s has made a decision to remove a ban on fun for the unvaccinated in Queensland. Whilst we should not be complacent, especially when it comes to a continued focus on the importance of vaccinations, the Queensland Government has decided to end the mandate for vaccinations and the need to “sign into” certain premises.

cinemas, weddings, showgrounds, libraries and stadiums, this is including the Maleny Show which will be held on May 27th and 28th, 2022. Personal hygiene and social distancing is still important. A copy of the Maleny Show Program can be downloaded from the Maleny Show Society web-page at: https://malenyshowsociety.org.au/

This decision was just in time for the Maleny Show as the State Government’s decision was announced on the afternoon of April 5th and as luck would have it the Maleny Show Society had planned a meeting on that night to decide if the 2022 Maleny Show would go ahead. The decision to remove the vaccination and “sign in” mandates does not mean that the obvious risks of a virus are no longer still be very serious – and deadly. Every Queenslander will now be able to again enjoy pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants, theme parks,

Maleny Show is “ All A Go”

The welcome news is that the Maleny Show 2022 is to go ahead – and is just 6 weeks away, on the 27th and 28th May! The rst Maleny Show was held on April 24th, 1923. Meanwhile, we thought you’d enjoy this picture of a very early Maleny Show and a few words about it from Desley Malone’s Maleny Historical Memories. This year’s show is a special Centenary Show, celebrating 100 years of Maleny Shows. So while the Maleny Show is always a great occasion, it’s extra special this year, with historical displays planned of memories of shows from a bygone era. In this photo of an early Maleny Show, C1930, note Skerman and Mof tt’s sawmill on the hill on the left and the second butter factory, on the right. It looks like a patch of corn on the left. Maple Street Meats Specialising in quality product and service.

Shop2/4 Maple Street, Maleny

5429 6499 When only the best will do! Ingredients 500g lean beef mince 1 small brown onion, nely diced ¼ cup basil leaves, nely chopped plus extra small leaves, to serve 1 tbsp olive oil 400g quality napolitana pasta sauce 3 medium zucchini, spiralised into zoodles

In a large bowl combine the mince, onion and chopped basil. Season and roll into heaped tablespoon sized meatballs (makes approximately 20 balls). In a large non-stick frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Cook the meatballs for 6 to 7 minutes, browning on all sides. Add the pasta sauce and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, or until slightly reduced and heated through. Add the zoodles, and toss to coat. Place meatballs and zoodles into bowls, top with parmesan and basil leaves and serve with baby rocket and lemon wedges, if desired.

Why freezer storage times for cooked beef dishes are shorter than fresh beef

¼ cup shaved or nely grated parmesan Baby rocket salad and lemon wedges, to serve

Handy Tip

Recipes from Jeremi Meatballs and zucchini noodles

You will need a vegetable spiraliser for this recipe – alternatively you can use a vegetable peeler and cut the strips with a knife into “zoodles”.

Certain avours in cooked dishes, such as onion and garlic, oxidise in the freezer over time – it's known as avour tainting. Because many cooked beef dishes contain one or both of these ingredients, we recommend storing for no more than one month to keep the avours tasting fresh.

What is a traditional Aussie meal? A typical Aussie barbecue is with sausages, burgers, steak, fresh seafood, bread and tomato or barbecue sauce, they sometimes include salad but it's mainly about the meat and sh (and of course a few stubbies – that's beer to the non-Australians.

MALENY & MONTVILLE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE DECLARE A WIN IN THE MANDATE SAGA Maleny and Montville Chambers of Commerce say they may have played a part in the State Government's decision to lift Covid Mandates. The Blackall Range chambers had written to Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in March asking that Covid Mandates and their disproportionate impact on the hospitality sector be reviewed and repealed. Last week the Premier announced that, as of Thursday April 14, most venues which have been open only to vaccinated staff and patrons will be open to all. The venues include:

Theme parks, casinos and cinemas Weddings Showgrounds Glass House MP Andrew Powell spoke in Parliament last week regarding the impacts of Covid Mandates on Blackall Range businesses and events such as country shows. In doing so he quoted from the letters the chambers had sent to the Premier. “We didn’t think it was going to happen, but at last we have a date,” said Maleny Commerce President Spencer Shaw. “The letters were in response to the ongoing dif culties faced by small businesses simply trying to run their cafes and restaurants,” said Montville Chamber of Commerce President Shiralee Cooper. A joint statement from the Chambers said: "The Chambers, in alliance with Chamber of Commerce and Industry Qld (CCIQ), have the ability to advocate for such important issues with all levels of Government. If you are in business, your voice is very important and while you may not achieve it on your own, being a part of a chamber gives strength to submissions. Maleny RFB Volunteer group

Mt Beerwah dangerous even mores in the rain! Local REB Groups often work together to assist in each others area of rescue and disaster. At about 12md on Saturday 9th April ambulance crews, ire crews, including remote rescue technicians, were called to Mount Beerwah after a pair of hikers in their 20s required the services of emergency services personnel after falling more than 5m. Weather conditions meant that the rescue helicopter could not be used in the actual rescue so the patients had to be carried down the mountain to a waiting rescue helicopter. The male person was conveyed to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition after suffering a head injury. The female hiker was transported by ambulance crews to the Sunshine Coast University hospital with a leg injury. This incident followed another rescue at Gardners Falls, Malen on Friday April 1st at about 2p.m. when male teenager was injured diving into the rock pool. A path had to be cut through the bush to get to the place where the teenager was located. He was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition. These incidents give an indication of the type that emergency services personnel are required to attend. Whilst it is understood that no person in need of assistance will be turned down by emergency services personnel, either permanents or volunteers, it is important that members of the public take some responsibility for their own safety. The weather conditions on the day of the Beerwah incident were such that it was a very unwise decision to go for a climb up Mt. Beerwah. Unfortunately, other people have to risk those same conditions to rescue the climbers.

Maleny SES Volunteer group

Did you know that the number of children killed in driveways continues to grow?

We, as State Emergency Service Volunteers and part of the Emergency Service providers in Queensland would rather see accidents prevented rather than having to attend to pick up the pieces. Did you know that the number of young children killed in home driveway accidents involving the family car continues to grow each year? Statistics show that at least 3 incidents are reported each and every week. Mostly the vehicle is driven by the childs own mother or father. The gures, gathered by the Georgina Josephine Foundation, show that in the 10 years to 2020, 101 children, younger than ve were killed nationally compared with 66 in the 10 years to 2010. In the 10 years to 2020 26 of those deaths were in Queensland. “Apart from the fatalities, nearly 1000 children are being seriously injured in low-speed vehicle runovers in their driveways and elsewhere each decade. Overall, there seems to be a general lack of awareness among adults of the risk and impact of driveway run over injuries to children, this stems from a lapse in the supervision of a child. Human factors have been proven to be the main contributing factor in driveway incidents. Vehicle design has improved. in that time with the inclusion of reversing cameras, but to date this has not led to any signi cant decrease in these incidents.

Please give some thought to the prudence of the task that you are about to attempt in the prevailing circumstances. We are always happy to welcome new volunteers to join our group.

What would be an election doorstop You may be wondering why the unnamed man without the mischievous “gotcha question” to politicians. decided to cook some steak in toaster. Where would you get an idea like this? Well, On the rst day of the campaign in Launceston, it was unfortunate for the leader of the opposition to have had a there are currently plenty of videos trending memory slip and not remember some statistics, important on social media and YouTube of people cooking steak in toaster. as they may be. On re ection the leader of the opposition corrected the situation and made an extra statement and apology to rectify the situation.

The Opposition Leader rightly should have known the important statistics, but why is it that the media has kept badgering at him about his gaffe. There is one thing for sure and that is that most of the media people would not have known those gures exactly. It is important that we Aussies make decisions on who would do the best job of running the country. There are many more things to consider than whether a person can remember every statistic off the top of their head. To vote against a party because you want to “have a go at them” is not a vote at all, even worse it is a danger. Ensure that you know who is actually going to govern Australia, not some minority puppet - master who is holding the balance of power. The future of Australia is important, so whoever is going to govern should have the power to make decisions in the best interest of Australia, not make decisions based on keeping the puppet - master happy. Governments, of all colours should have the long term future of Australia in mind when making decisions. Unfortunately, many governments simply make decisions about short term futures - only long enough to get elected and then sink back into the routine of preparing for the next election period - simply to work towards getting re-elected. Don’t waste your vote. Give it serious consideration.

The man was even more disappointed when he discovered that his insurance company was not going to give him a full payout. The man and his partner have since contacted the IFSO (Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman) to lodge a complaint and attempt to get a further 200k paid out. The reason that the insurance company is only paying out 418k and not a penny more is because the couples insurance policy had changed from replacement cover to total sum insured. The IFSO Ombudsman Karen Stevens said that in this particular case, the re was preventable. “Cooking steak in a toaster is literally a recipe for disaster. Some Early History to the Maleny area

“Australia Goes to War” As we approach ANZAC Day 2022 is is timely to remember the price paid by hundreds of thousands of young Aussies who went to war to ensure that as Aussies we enjoy the freedoms that we have today - those freedoms have not come cheaply, but paid with with the blood of out military. At this time of dif culties in Ukraine with the Russian invasion, and with China and Taiwan and Iran and Israel both sitting and awaiting it is important to remember those who bought our freedoms for us. At this very time when we consider the plight of Ukrainian women and children who are at this very time are living a life of uncertainty as Russia invades Ukraine Cities we should just remember how similar that situation is to the start of WW1.

company with the New Zealand troops. During the rst day nearly 1000 troops lost their lives. By 2p.m. that rst day it was obvious to all that this campaign was going to be a failure, however the battle continued regardless.

The First World War began when Britain and Germany went to war in August 1914, and Prime Minister Andrew Fisher's government pledged full support for Britain.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."

The outbreak of war was greeted in Australia, as in many other places, with great enthusiasm. One of the rst battles that Australia was involved in was in fact in September and October, 1914 in German New Guinea and the Bismark Islands of New Guinea.

Thus the name ANZAC was coined and very quickly became the ANZAC legend. A legend that is still remembered today.

Then came the historic landing at Gallipoli in the Dardanelles at 4.30am on April 25th, 1915 in

Over 10,000 ANZAC troops were killed between April 1915 and when troops were evacuated between December 8th and 20th, 1915. The evacuation was the only successful part of this disastrous campaign In July 1916 Australian infantry were introduced to this type of combat at Fromelles, where they suffered 5,533 casualties in 24 hours. By the end of the year about 40,000 Australians had been killed or wounded on the Western Front. In 1917 a further 76,836 Australians became casualties in battles, such Bullecourt, Messines, and the four-month campaign around Ypres, known as the battle of Passchendaele. The Middle East campaign began in 1916 with Australian troops participating in the defence of the

What does ‘ANZAC' Day stand for? On the 25th of April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. These became known as Anzacs and the pride they took in that name continues to this day. 'ANZAC' stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The 25th of April was officially named Anzac Day in 1916 and is commemorated on the 25th of April each year.

Some Early History to the Maleny area

“Australia Goes to War” Continued from previous Page Suez Canal and the allied reconquest of the Sinai peninsula. From a population of fewer than ve million, 416,809 men enlisted, of which over 60,000 were killed and 156,000 wounded, gassed, or taken prisoner.

WW11 Only a couple of decades later, the 3rd September 1939 Prime Minister Robert Gordon Menzies had again to announce that Australia was again to go to war to assist Brittain. As part of the British Empire, Australia was among the rst nations to declare war on Nazi Germany. Almost a million Australians, both men and women, served in the Second World War. They fought in campaigns against Germany and Italy in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa, as well as against Japan in south-east Asia and other parts of the Paci c. Japan entered the war in December 1941 and swiftly achieved a series of victories, resulting in the

occupation of most of south-east Asia and large areas of the Paci c by the end of March 1942. Singapore fell in February, with the loss of an entire Australian division. After the bombing of Darwin that same month, all RAN ships in the Mediterranean theatre, as well as the 6th and 7th Divisions, returned to defend Australia. It was after the bombing of Pearl Harbour that the United States entered the war in the Paci c and the tide of the war changed. It was not until the 14 August 1945 that Japan accepted the Allied demand for unconditional surrender. For Australia it meant that the Second World War was nally over. WW11 was not the end of Australia having to ght for people’s freedoms. It was just the start of a number of wars that have to have been fought during the 20th century.

Occupation of Japan - 1946 -51 Korean War - 1950 - 53 Malayan Emergency 1950 - 60 Indonesian Confrontation 1963 - 66 Vietnam War 1962 - 75 Iraq - First War 1990 - 91 Afghanistan 2001 - 2014 Iraq - Second War 2003 - 2009 Then there are other peacekeeping and humanitarian roles in various regions of the world.

Directors you need ID! With Trove Easton of Easton Lawyers, Maleny What is a director ID? A director identi cation number (director ID) is a unique 15-digit number given to a director (or someone who will become a director), who has veri ed their identity with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). It’s free to apply and while directors need to apply for their own director ID, they'll keep it forever even if they: change companies; or stop being a director; or change their name; or move interstate or overseas.

Timing The Corporations Law requires if you were appointed as a director on or before 31 October 2021 you must apply for a director ID by 30 November 2022. However, if you were appointed as a director between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 you MUST apply for a director ID within 28 days. That’s pretty fast! From 5 April 2022 you MUST apply for a director ID before you are appointed. Timing under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) is different.

If you were appointed as a director under the CATSI Act on or before 31 October 2022 you must apply for a director ID by 30 November 2023.

The Hinterlandgrapevine Online News Travelling Jackaroo “Getting to the Top” Sam returns home to Maleny Unexpectedly!

E

ver so bitter sweet news, right after that last youth conference in Darwin and just as slim was about ready to go, I got a phone call from Dad back home. Covids been through the family but it’s hit him harder and he was ambulance to hospital the other night. He has since been discharged, but he is still having some trouble breathing and unfortunately it seems to have brought on pneumonia and Bronchitis along with his Asthma. So this morning at 1:30am I’ve caught a ight back home to go see dad, it’s the rst time I’ve seen my family in over a year, needless to say the reunion was a cooee to mum out in the paddock backpack spraying. She nearly dropped the spray tank, and my sister Izzy who nearly dropped her cuppa as I didn’t tell them I was coming home. The short and narrow of it is I’ve own home to be there for dad over the next week or 2 on the farm at Maleny before ying back up to Darwin to continue my journey. ,This is going to give me a chance to tidy up around the farm a bit with fencing and roadworks around the place. Dad should be ok. He told me to make sure they know I’m not dying but with his asthma and other lung issues I’d rather be there than not. Thank you everyone for your support, will hopefully be back on the road soon, but in the meantime I’m back home at Maleny helping out around the place whilst dads crook. The trip is far from over but family comes rst for the time being. I know you will all understand.

Sam has now left Darwin. Sam has become a much-loved gure around Darwin during his six months stay. He has quickly become an honourary Territorian. However he has now packed his bags and once again hit the road with the next stop in West Australia.. During his six month stay in the Top End for raising funds for his charities with his unique... and brightly coloured tractor, he has raised over $20,000 bringing the total donations to a little over $100,000. Whilst in Darwin Sam has acquired a train whistle on Slim. - can’t mistake him now!!!
