This Sunshine Coast program covers the upper catchment suburbs of Balmoral Ridge, Diamond Valley, Beerwah, Crohamhurst, North Maleny, Flaxton, Dulong, Belli Park, Peachester, Montville, Obi Obi and Mapleton, Maleny, Mt Mellum and Reesville. The program has been renewed until September 11, 2025.
It is important that landowners continue to proactively monitor the extent of invasive pest plants across the region, including groundsel bush, cat’s claw creeper, fireweed, giant rat’s tail grasses and salvinia.
Whatever you call your best mate, it’s now time to renew their registration. Pet registration helps council officers reunite lost pets with their owners. Information gathered from pet registration also helps council plan for dog parks, off-leash areas and other pet facilities, where they’re needed most.

Following a wet start to the year and a colder than normal winter there is a lot of fuel for bush fires “on the ground” just waiting to be burnt. Fires start easily as the weather turns a bit warmer and then a bit of a breeze can push that fire in any direction.
Each level describes, based on conditions, the potential danger if a bushfire was to start in your area, so that we can all be better prepared. There are four FDR levels and each links with advice so you can take action to protect yourself and others.
What to do if you need assistance
Throwing lit cigarette butts from vehicles is dangerous. Cigarettes can start bush and grass fires, and place lives at risk. It's also bad for the environment.
It also includes an “off” level, in white, for times
We trust that our partner organisations know how to best improve global access to proper sanitation – that means our donation could go to building toilets. To put it into perspective, a child under five dies every two minutes from diarrhoea diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. Profits from the sale of this toilet paper is used to building toilets, but could also mean it supports larger clean water projects. This is a win - win situation!

What do we really mean when we say our toilet paper helps build toilets?

The first President of the club was Mr. Alan Lockwood who was a local farmer, nurseryman and already throughout Queensland a respected judge of flowers, especially dahlias.
He continued on as President until 1961 when he resigned as a result of ill health. During that time he held many demonstrations and classes to impart his knowledge onto local gardeners.
Another staunch member of the Society was then Maleny publican, Rixson Burnett and his wife, Peg, along with Alan and Olga Webster.
Each of the meetings were held a different members home so that they could get ideas from members that might be able to be used in their own garden. Throughout the decades the Maleny Community Centre was the centre of activities, especially the annual spring fairs which benefited the Maleny QATB, or Maleny Ambulance as it is now known.
In those early years the club members strongly supported the Maleny CWA and the Maleny local ambulance committee by holding an annual flower show with money raised being donated.
Over the decades of existence the Club’s objects have always been:

From the mid 1950’s the Horticultural Society started to complete floral carpets in the Maleny RSL hall with proceeds going to the Maleny Red Cross. These events involved most of the society members.
An interesting note is that members of the Maleny Horticultural Society took out second and third prizes in the Nambour Chronicle 1960 garden competition, “Gardens in the Sun” which included gardens from the area between Caboolture and Gympie.
The area has always had a strong band of ardent garden lovers, and that obviously continues onto today as the now Garden Club has a strong membership list.
It is interesting to note that many of the names of members in those early days are names that are still around today. Albeit the next generation. Most of those names have been identified with Maleny since Maleny was
“To promote and encourage horticulture through tutorials and exhibition of plants” Motto
By March 1953 the society had grown to 38 enthusiastic members. The first meeting in 1953 was on February 20th and it was held in the garden of Mr. + Mrs. W. Bergann at Witta. The garden was a mature garden of about 60 years and was well maintained. It shown the seriousness of the society members when Mrs. P. Burnett was about to name without assistance 67 of the 70 various flowers that were flowering at that time whilst Mrs. V. Waddell could name 66.
At a community meeting on the 19th September 1952 at the house of the Burnett family in Maleny it was shown that there was enough interest of people who enjoyed working in their gardens to form a club of like minded Subsequentlypeople.
it was decided to hold the first meeting of the Maleny and Districts Horticultural Society on Tuesday afternoon of October 7th. It was held in the home of the WhilstWaddells.this club officially commenced in 1952, Maleny community members had been displaying their flowers, fruits and vegetables at the Nambour Club’s events and district shows sinceOctober 1928.
In 1961 the Witta garden of Mr. & Mrs Riordan, which was situated opposite the Old Witta State School won the Sunshine Coast Nambour Chronicle “Gardens in the Sun” competition.
to enter and enjoy”. By 1965 membership had reached 64, by 2002 it was over 100, and today membership stands at Over156.
At the beginning of 1980’s Society members had to overcome the effects of a continuing drought on the looks of their gardens. This shows that there have always been challenging weather conditions effecting the area.

In the early years of the Society dahlias became popular flowers with members, so much so that the Society held an annual Dahlia Show. These shows included a floral carpet which was made in the majority with dahlias. These flower carpets were very popular.
In 1986 the annual Garden Fair was cancelled as a result of drought conditions creating poor growing conditions for local Ingardeners.the1990’s
In 1978 a special Spring Fair was held to celebrate the 100 years of Maleny settlement. It was held in the Maleny School of Arts and all proceeds went to the Maleny Ambulance.
Following much discussion, in 1989 the HorticulturalMalenySociety name ficially changed. The Maleny Horticultural Society now became known as the Maleny Garden Club.
General Meetings are held monthly at 9.30am on the last Tuesday of each month. Meetings usually include a guest presenter talking about all aspects of developing and enhancing a garden. The meeting venue is usually the Maleny Show-ground Pavilion or occasionally at a member’s garden. The next meeting is on Sept 27th at 9.30a.m. on Maleny Showgrounds Pavilion
Each year the Society ower shows and the proceeds would be donated to various local organisations such as the Maleny QATB, Maleny Hospital and the School of Arts and Maleny R.S.L just to name a few.
“Colin Campbell of Gardening Australia” fame became involved with the society and was able to pass on many garden tips to members. Apart from running the annual spring fairs, members took part in many bus trips to visit various. champion gardens throughout the Sunshine Coast and further Inafield.1991
In 1993 the club took the next step and became an Incorporated organisation.

In early 1975 members of the Maleny Historical Society took it on to complain about the Landsborough Shire Council workers who pulled out plants in Mary River Road, Maleny that had been planted on their verges by society members. It was expected that the council would replace the plants destroyed.
They also concerned about the manner in which the local Rural Fire Brigade was back burning around trees and shrubs on some rural properties. The Society wanted any trees that died to be replaced by the Rural Firefighters. They then took on the Queensland Horticultural Society wanting to know; “What the Maleny Horticultural Society got from paying association fees to them”.
There is no evidence of any replies.

The Maleny Blackall Range Lions Club!
Now in its 17th year, the Maleny Blackall Range Lions Club Welcome to Maleny and District ‘Meet and Greet’ 2022 (formally the Welcome Dinner) invites newcomers to meet fellow newcomers to Maleny and District.
There will be presentations from local community groups to show what organisations are around and what they can offer to you as a member.
Or put another way, an interest rate that is 1% lower will have you pay your home loan off 5 years earlier.
And a number of banks will also offer a cash back of up to $4,000 to refinance your home loan to them.
Whilst these rate rises have been manageable for most borrowers up to this point, each increase should remind home loan borrowers to ask themselves whether they are on the best deal

We have had yet another increase in the RBA interest rate earlier this month, bringing the total rate rises to 2.25% since May 2022.
We are available to discuss your situation 7 days a week.
A new home loan can also be set up to make allowance for home improvements, a car purchase or refinance of other personal debts, all on the same low interest rate.

I cannot begin to describe the happiness that one feels after being a part of something like a tent pull down, seeing everyone working together all day and being able to stand back at the end of it on sunset and see what’s been it’llknowingaccomplished, thatnexttownallbeputbackup
locals around Maleny township on a twice a day routine in a 12 seater electric bus would have the potential to reduce the pressure on existing parking
owners of Maleny IGA have reacted favourably to the idea saying that they were happy to match dollar-for-dollar any funds raised. The cost to purchase the bus is approximately $125,000. What do you think of the idea?

It’s amazing how through the work of a team of over 30 people that an entire circus can be packed up in a matter of hours after a morning show, not days, hours. I was helping with loading racks with railings, disassembling lights. Later in the day with star pickets and a tractor I was pulling out the meter long steel pegs that secure the tent to the earth. This was done with my mate, Dom driving the posi-track and myself on the looped chain hooking up each peg and pulling them out of the ground one by one.
