Maleny Credit Union to Become a Charity

Maleny Credit Union was originally established in 1984 as Maleny & District Community Credit Union providing a banking service to the Maleny community. In 2010 signs appeared that the credit union would need to merge with a banking organisation to comply with new banking rules and to stay competitive. Now that the mergence of the Maleny Credit Union and the Queensland Country Bank has now been completed. As a result any remaining assets, mainly the building that was the HQ for Maleny Credit Union had to be dealt with.

MCU Ltd Chair, Darryl Ebenezer, said the meeting was well attended, given the challenges of the recent Covid resurgence.“

The move to a charity means that MCU Communities Ltd can continue to have a broad impact on the social, environmental and economic cross-over of our region, and enable us to continue the legacy of the charity in a different way,” said Mr TheEbenezer.“transfer provides certainty for members and community to keep an important asset in Bunya House, and continue the distribution of grants to local community organisations.”

At a meeting held on Wednesday, July 27 where MCU members voted in the majority to formally change the purpose of Maleny Credit Union Ltd to become a charity. A resolution was passed at the meeting to transfer its assets to a new structure. The new MCU Communities Ltd will also incorporate the closure of the Maleny and District Credit Union Charitable Trust, which in 2021 distributed $149,000 in grants, mostly to local community organisations and clubs.

Work on the carpark in the Maleny Showgrounds adjoining the horse arena has now been completed. Works included a new 150m road. As a result the the Maleny Rangers Football Club have gained 10 new formal carparks. This will benefit football play day parking problems. This work adds to the major works, including the new buildings and upgrades recently completed.

How much Wet + Forget do I need for the job? For an average 3 bedroom tile roof (approx. 150sq metres) with black mould, you will require either 2 x 5L Wet & Forget concentrate bottles or 2 x 2L Rapid Application bottles. Due to the undulations in the tile, the area being treated is actually larger than 150sq metres, and this is why we say to use 2 packs. This also depends on how much of the area is covered with biological growth and how porous the surface is.

Wet & Forget and Rapid Application are best applied to a DRY roof on a cool, dry day with minimal wind. This will avoid the product being blown away as it is being sprayed on and will also avoid it evaporating too fast in the hot sun or on a hot surface. Make sure that there is no rain expected for at least 6 hours, as premature rain can wash the product off before it has properly penetrated the growth.

Rail Line at Gold Coast 1960’s

Along with a number of other regional rail lines around Queensland, the State Government closed the rail line between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in 1964 and then one of the biggest projects of the 1990’s era was the re-building a rail line again to the Gold Coast. Football fans were saddened by the recent death of Former Queensland State of Origin coach and rugby league star Paul Green who died aged only 49years leaving a wife and young Unfortunately, family.Paul died at his own hands. Throughout his career Paul had a reputation as a halfback who was as tough as he was skilful. Paul Green appeared to friends and fans to have everything going for himself and family and gave the impression of a happy life. Unknown to all was that behind his outward appearance not all was in order. It shows that anybody can suffer from a depressive order - no matter what stage of life that that individual is in. Most people who commit suicide have a mental disorder, most commonly a depressive disorder or a substance abuse disorder. In Paul’s case there is no sign of substance abuse. In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death for males and females aged between 15 and 44 with about 3,000 people in Australia per year taking their own lives. Paul Green is only one of a large section of society that suffers from a depressive disorder. Scientists say that depression is not a mood you can just get over. It is a disease in which the brain ceases to register pleasurable activities. Whilst statistics show that the prevalence of major depressive disorder is higher in young people, almost half the total population (45.5%) experience a mental health disorder at some point in the lifetime. Unfortunately, it is a subject that is rarely talked about in open society. It is an attempt to change this that our own “Travelling Jackaroo” is travelling around Australia in his tractor bringing information to Aussies about “Dolly’s Dream” which was established following the suicide of Dolly Everett aged just 14 years. We should all consider the family and friends of those who suicide as those who are left now have to deal with their loss. Vaping products are being heavily by the traditional cigarette companies - and it is big business. There is also an enormous supply coming in cheaply from manufacturers in China and distributed through corner stores. In Australia it is a billion dollar business and it is estimated that nearly half a million Aussies vape.

GeraldtonTowing I’d like to say a massive Thank you to Lloyd from Geraldton Towing Services for everything he and his team have been up to over the last 2 weeks whilst I’ve been with The Great Moscow Circus in Geraldton. Slims has some work done, aside from an oil leak repair that took quite some doing they’ve also upgraded slim to duel batteries to run the Engel sponsored fridge just like the one in my camp, as well as this Lloyd also fixed up my air compressor for both my train whistle and the tyre air pump to a switch in the cab so I can operate the pump all from inside the cab (as opposed to having to manually hook it up each time) and upgraded a significant amount of my wiring to heavier gauge especially on some of the earth leads. That is what Aussies do - “Just help each other.”

T ime for the Moscow Circus to head on as I am now travelling from Geraldton towards my next stopover at Rockingham. All ready to leave early in the morning when wild weather has Gottahit.batten down the hatches for the time being, waters everywhere and the winds picking up. I have to plan my trip a bit closer as along the Brand highway there are places such as freeways and motorways that I can’t go on because big green signs saying no horses, tractors etc. Unfortunately google maps and my atlas isn’t very helpful at the moment with the necessary information to guide me “I’malong.proud to say that Way Out West Outfitters have come on board as a sponsor, sponsoring me with an Awesome oilskin vest and a branded kit bag that’ll be used a lot especially with the motorbike as well as a jumper for the colder weather down south and a few other bits and pieces. I unfortunately had to put down an Emu that had been hit by a truck breaking both legs. I couldn’t leave it to suffer. The project is about recognising that men suffer incontinence problems and a large percentage are forced to wear pads during the day. Women seemed to be better catered for in this regard in terms of access to sanitary Forbins.boys and men, approximately 1.4 million in Australia who use incontinence products, there are very few or no places for them to throw them out. This can make them want to stay put, not wanting to leave their homes and join in everyday activities.

Maleny Blackall Range Lions Club are sponsoring Bins for Blokes. BINS4Blokes is an Australia-wide awareness and advocacy campaign promoting the installation of incontinence bins in male public toilet facilities. Incontinence products for men which would be placed in the bins include pads and underwear which need to be disposed of after use.

The Sunshine Regional Council, through Councillor Winston Johnston - Division 5 Sunshine Coast Council, have started a project to place sanitary bins for men in public toilets. The Maleny Lions Club project is about encouraging private businesses in the local area to install bins in toilets they have on the premises for customers,-predominantly cafes and in public areas. If you would like to be part of the solution and help with installing a bin please contact Graham Bailey, Maleny Lions Club by email secretary.malenyblackallrangelc@gmail.comat:

Flying Foxes are important for the environment

BINS4BLOKES aims to de-stigmatise male incontinence, or incontinence for everyone, actually and raise awareness about it. This is a national project being sponsored by the Continence Foundation of Australia. It is also supported by other men’s health and men’s health professional bodies such as; Australian Men’s Shed Association, Movember Foundation, Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia along with others.

Get up close and personal with local species of flying foxes. Join Jeannie from Bat Rescue Inc. to discover the secret life of these creatures and the native animals who depend on them for survival.

Catching diseases directly from flying-foxes is extremely unlikely. However, they are known to carry two life-threatening viruses—Australian Bat Lyssavirus and Hendra virus . Hendra virus can spread from flying foxes to horses and horses can then pass the infection on to humans.

If you see an injured flying fox, do not attempt to handle it, simply phone the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) and they will make any necessary arrangements to have it treated.

The roost or colony of flying foxes smells. The smell is not from the flying-foxes being unclean but is largely due to the scent that the males produce to identify themselves and mark their territories.
