Kenilworth Road Cambroon to get only minor “First Aid”
Anyone who as travelled on the section of roadway between Conondale and the Mary River, judging by the state of the roadway would have to believe that we live in some fourth world country. After receiving your many emails and phone calls, again, about the terrible conditions on the MalenyKenilworth Road between Lees Road and Booloumba Creek Road, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) just advised me that they are going to do shoulder-grading of the single-lane sections to make the road safer for drivers. The Department of Transport and Main Roads, who is responsible for the maintenance of this section of roadway advises that the design work for the full sealing and widening is still scheduled to take place in 2023. This promise has been made on a number of occasions, however has not to date come to fruition.
roads in such a poor condition thus creating dangerous situations. The grading in this instance is just another rst aid solution, especially considering the heavy ow of traf c that uses this roadway. The roadway shouldn’t have been left to get as bad as it has. To continue with shoulder-gradings does nothing for the safety of this section of roadway and a complete sealing is years overdue and is also a continuing cost to have to continually grade shoulders. (Photo shows
locals meeting on site with local State Member of Parliament, Mr. Andrew Powell.)
The minor works in this instance are due to commence on the 22nd November 2021 and will continue between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday for approximately two weeks, weather permitting. This section of roadway is a major thoroughfare through the Sunshine Coast hinterland and also carries a heavy amount of tourist traf c and many of those drivers are not experienced in driving on

Cars of Yesteryear The Ideal Town Car It could e said that the ideal town car was the BMW Isetta . The car that became the BMW Isetta started as an Italian-designed “bubble car” produced by the Iso Company in the early 1950s. Powered by a petite engine that just made 9.5 horsepower, the original Isetta had two wheels up front and two closely spaced wheels in the back. Its look wasn’t its de ning feature. There were no side doors on the Isetta. Instead, you opened it like a refrigerator. The front of the car swung open on a side hinge, dashboard and all. It had a single two-person bench seat. BMW took over production of the Isetta in 1955. They re ned the car and boosted its engine power to a whopping 13 horsepower. More than 161,000 Isettas were sold over the car’s production life. Maybe now is a good time to reproduce it to assist the world reduce carbon pollution! Maybe the many happy people!!!! Where’s Sam, ….the Travelling Jackaroo?
The trials and tribulations of having just too many means of transport, but none working just when you need them.
Spent time recently helping the park with packing down portable dongas, and after a few hrs decided to treat myself with a hot lunch from the servo about 2k down the road. Ended up taking the old and rusty always trusty postie bike that has a tendency to self combust, given that the yesterday I blew up the tractors radiator and the zooks in getting work done at the mechanics, it was my last resort, so after ying out the gate I ended up getting about 800m (not 500) down the road before realising that my spark plug had fouled up again as the motor started sputtering and died…
On the plus side whilst walking it back I got a follow up call from Lee Kernaghan of all people checking how the satellite phone from Rent A Sat Phone was going , pulled over under the shade of a gumtree to discuss it before the rest of the walk back to camp, I’d take the push bike for lunch but it’s got a at too. I dunno how many chinamen I’ve run over, how many mirrors I’ve smashed or how many black cats I’ve kicked but evidently they’re all coming back to haunt me Bugger it I am still in the Territory and the big rains are here. I think that I am going to have to relocate my camp to some higher grounds.
I had everything on board except the damn socket because I’d used it tpulling down with the dongas 800m is a long way to walk a bike with 42° heat and 50+ humidity in the Northern Territory
Sams proposed route - Maleny to Maleny!
“The curse of Darwin has got me so it seems….”
I wanted a quick KFC meal and I didn’t have any of the disposable face masks left, so what to do. Luckily I had a more expensive permanent mask with lter so once again I got myself out of trouble. Now for the run through the KFC drive through. It will all be fun and games until they hit the holdup alarm, then I am not sure that there will be any fun at all. At least I eventually got a feed. Now Covid hits Darwin so we’ve all gotta mask up!
Here's to a cheeky-faced young Australian with a big heart and n even bigger dream. Bon voyage from Maleny, and safe travels Sam.

An Old Codger’s Thoughts and opinion With government spending continuing to increase at an ever increasing pace and the amount of tax gathered needs to be able to keep up with that pace of spending. The Federal government is looking under every stone to nd more options to tax. There are getting fewer opportunities to tax the general population so there needs to be some real thought into where that money comes from. Some previously sacred cows need to be looked at to ensure that there is fairness in taxation collection. For a start the amount of money paid to ex Prime Ministers to provide for them opulent of ces, staf ng travel and everything that goes with it should be seriously looked at. These people receive those “perks” from the day they resign from parliament until the day they die. - many are retained for decades. What service do they really provide for the good government of Australia during the time that they receive these bene ts. The ordinary Australian does not receive similar bene ts upon retirement. Churches don’t have to pay a cent for rates and taxes yet they can run commercial businesses under the church banner. Maybe it is time to look at this possible source of extra taxation. One only has to look at the apparent scal positions of those organisations and extend to them the same obligations and responsibilities that are placed on everyday Australians. Unfortunately, over the past decades various levels of government, of all persuasions have sold off assets that have earned the governments extra money. In the short term this might have appeared to be a good move, however now it is obvious that hat extra money is no longer available to governments. Increasing taxation is the easiest way for governments to raise extra money. Another way would be to be more careful and ef cient with their spending so that increasing taxation is less of a necessity. That does not mean cutting services, merely cutting waste!

Truthful Jones says
And he swears that it 100% true. - No Bulls##t” ruthful tells us that he was recently visiting friends in Melbourne when he noticed that a store that sells new husbands had opened in Melbourne, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:
T
The instructions stated: “You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six oors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the ights. The third oor sign reads: Floor 3 – These men have jobs, love kids, and are extremely good looking. ‘Wow,’ she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going. She goes to the fourth oor and the sign reads: Floor 4 – These men have jobs, love kids, are dropdead good looking and help with housework. ‘Oh, mercy me!’ she exclaims, ‘I can hardly stand it!’ Still, she goes to the fth oor and the sign reads: Floor 5 – These men have jobs, love kids, are drop-dead gorgeous, help with housework, and have a strong romantic streak. The real carbon emission cost of electric cars!
Are electric cars the new mode of transport? Will the photo below become the new scene on the side of our roads?
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/ cars/article-10161697/Volvo-says-electriccar-making-emissions-70-HIGHERpetrol.html
Volvo has just released a new report into the real effect of total vehicle life carbon emissions on our carbon footprint. It shows that green house gas emissions during production of the electric vehicle are nearly 70 per cent higher than a petrol model. This is mainly due to the carbon intensity of battery and steel production, as well as from the increased share of aluminium in the plug-in car. it would take a prolonged period of ownership and be driven about 68,000 kilometres before it offsets its higher emissions from production. It would then need to offset carbon emissions from the production of the equipment to create the electricity. A precis of this report can be found at the web site below:

Selling or buying a property!
Here are a few things to consider during the process With Trove Easton of Easton Lawyers, Maleny Who Can Witness a Power overseas, or decides it is best for someone else to manage their of Attorney Document? affairs. However, a POA doesn’t need to be a lawyer, it can be any individual you trust.
Appointing a Power of Attorney (POA) is a big decision, as the person you nominate will be managing your nancial affairs and as with many legal documents, you will need someone to witness the POA document.
There are two types of POA, a general power of attorney and an enduring power of attorney.
Who cannot witness a POA in Queensland?
General POA
Getting your POA document signed correctly is vital to ensuring that it is valid and one important step in that process is ensuring that a valid witness is present. A witness is required to verify the identity of the individuals signing a POA to con rm they are in fact who they say they are. A witness must also make sure that the individuals signing the POA have capacity and understand the document they are signing.
The general POA stops operating if you lose the mental capacity to make nancial decisions. You can also appoint a general POA for a speci c period of time. For example, you may want to appoint a general POA for 6 months while you travel overseas.
A witness cannot be: the principal; or the attorney; or not a relation of the principal or attorney; or not a paid carer or health provider of the principal.
Enduring POA
If you are considering a POA, please seek legal advice before taking action.
The enduring POA however will continue to operate even if you loose mental capacity, due to for example dementia, stroke or various other brain injuries.
Should you have any questions please contact our of ce on 07 5494 3511 Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 17:00 AEST.
Who can witness a POA in Queensland?
What is a Power of Attorney?
A power of attorney (POA) is an important legally binding document which allows an individual (called the principal) to give another individual authority over their nancial decisions. Your POA cannot make decisions involving your health or personal affairs. POAs are normally appointed when someone goes
Australian lawyer. If there is a reasonable likelihood of doubt of a principal’s capacity to understand the POA they are entering into, it is advisable for the witness to make a written record of that evidence.
Take care everyone! Easton Lawyers
A witness needs to be at least 18 years of age and also have full legal capacity and the relevant legislation is the Powers of Attorney Act 1998 (QLD). Only one witness is required to a POA and they can be a: Justice of the peace; or Commissioner for declarations; or Notary public; or

“Wittas brush with fame!”
US Colonel David Hackworth, Hero of Vietnam War Whether it be in sport, business or War the Witta area has had a brush with a number of people of signi cant importance within their lifetime. One such instance was in the mid 1980’s when a new home, “Shenandoah” was built on “the lake” off Curramore Road, Witta and a United States of America prominent military journalist and a former United States Army colonel who was decorated in both the Korean War and Vietnam War moved in. That person was Colonel David Haskell Hackworth also known as Hack. He was one of the United States military's most decorated soldiers and as a television personality. He was born in Santa Monica, California on November 11th, 1931. In pro les which accompanied publication of some of his various books, it was occasionally claimed that he was the model for Colonel
Kurtz, Marlon Brando's character in the 1979 lm Apocalypse Now. Colonel Hackworth lied to enlist in the Army at 15 and won a battle eld commission at 20 to become the Korean War's youngest American Captain. He was America's youngest full Colonel in Vietnam, and won a total of 91 medals, including two Distinguished Service Crosses, 10 Silver Stars, 8 Bronze Stars and 8 Purple Hearts. In all of the Presidential Citations relating to the above mentioned awards Colonel Hackworth engaged with his enemy under extremely hostile and outnumbered situations ensuring that his troops in the best possible position under the circumstances in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service. On settling in Australia he operated a restaurant,
Scaramouche. …. The food presented at Scaramouche was French-style. The magni cent, historical old brick building which housed the restaurant stood proudly on the corner of Turbot Street and Coronation Drive, Brisbane. To those who knew him, his smiling and friendly face was regularly seen around the Maleny shopping centre. It was during his time living in Witta that he co-wrote a book about his military exploits called “About Face: Odyssey of an American Warrior”. It was published in 1989 and became an international bestseller. During the rst Gulf War in 1990 - 91 he covered the rst Gulf War, known as Desert Storm as a journalist for Newsweek magazine. He was described as “A Soldier’s Soldier”. He died from bladder cancer in Tijuana, Mexico in May 2005. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He was 74.

Watson’s Garage to close In 1945 Walter Watson bought a business in Maleny which eventually became known as Watsons Garage. At the time it was the only transport operator in the Maleny area.
On November 12th, 2021 the present owners of Watson’s Garage issued the following statement.
WL Watson and Sons Maleny, held a Mail contract between Landsborough and Maleny from 1944 to1980. a record term according to the Postmaster General.
The new owners would like to thank the Maleny community for all of their support over the years.
“It is with great sadness after over 60 years of trade that Watson's Garage will be closing today.
We regret that this decision has to be made, however progress has forced our hand.
In addition they had haulage contracts with the Maleny Butter factory taking butter to the railway station in Landsborough.
To all our suppliers and the community once again, we are sorry but we thank you.
Fresh food, beer and any farm produce was carted and delivered to shops and farms in the region. Pubs in Landsborough, Maleny and Mapleton got their grog supplies via Watsons.
Over many years of service and contribution we also would like to thank the staff.
In 1962 the petrol bowsers were installed at the garage and a mechanical/panel beating/spray painting service started.
Is this the sign of progress? Local icons such as “Mof es Garage”, “Nagy’s Cafe”, Maleny Butter Factory and various dairy farms. Modern Maleny changes daily and so another era has passed into history!
We look forward to sharing new and exciting ventures in this location”.
In 1965 molasses carting started; covering areas between Bundaberg, St George and Lismore. This business has continued to operate until today - November 2021.

Maple Street, Maleny 1938
In 1938 Maleny was a prosperous dairying township. It was in 1938 that an agreement for the establishment of the present RSL Hall site was drawn up between the RSL SubCommittee and Mr. William Burnett. The present building was built in 1947 - 1948 by local residents. At an evening meeting held on the 19th November, 1938 Mr. A.C.K. Cooke, President of the Maleny Branch of the R.A.C.Q. was nalising arrangements for the annual picnic which would be held in Caloundra on December 11th. Mr. A. McLean reported that Maleny had a membership of ninety members. Also on that date the Maleny District Tennis Association Ball was held when the winners trophies were presented. The Witta team won the association championship for the fourth year running.
