In their project Prestige: Phantasmagoria Now, the curators Julija Čistiakova, Ignas Kazakevičius and Vidas Poškus present and, to some extent, compare “prestigious” French and Lithuanian artists or authors whose creative strategy is based on the analysis or reflection of the phenomenon of “prestige”. The curators follow the view formulated by the French curator Nicolas Bourriaud (who has written an essay exclusively for this project), holding that today the art process turns into a social experiment which transforms the environment in which it is conducted, “reloading” it in one way or another. The catalogue presents the authors featured in the exhibition, as well as texts by the project’s curators, Nicolas Bourriaud, and the Lithuanian Minister of Culture Arūnas Gelūnas.
